Back up data from a bricked smt5600 - HTC Typhoon

Is there a way to back up my phone data(sms, contacts, etc) from a bricked SMT5600? The phone stays on the blue Windows Mobile screen startup. I tried to do a hard reset(got to the point where it said press 0 to reset) but was not successful. The rom is the original AT&T(have never been re-flashed). Thank you.

Nobody knows? I guess I'm out of luck, I'll probably try to re-flash the rom.

Any hard reset or ROM flashing would wipe out your data anyway, wouldn't they ?

yes it would. I'm not sure if the hard reset I did was actually working since the phone is still stuck at the windows mobile screen when I turn it on.
I've also just tried to reload the rom using the miniSD method but got the "update not allowed". This phone was already app unlocked and provider unlocked. I read the instruction on the super cid stuffs, but I can't even have an active sync connection with the phone. Time for a new phone?

I thought you were trying to recover your data...
What I was saying is that flashing a new rom to get the phone to work would ALSO wipe out the data and prevent you from recovering it...
Good luck !

Newbie needs tutorial

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the MDA compact 3 and have a few questions im hoping someone can clear up for me. I used to have a Motorola V3 and could hack that to hell and back but this seems a lot more complicated.
I have a T-mobile UK MDA Compact 3 and im going to use www.imei-check.co.uk to unlock the sim lock and CID. Unless someone knows of software which allows me to do it myself.
When it is unlocked i want to put an O2 sim card in it but then it will be full of T-mobile crap i dont want. Is it as easy as just wipe it and install a fresh copy of windows mobile 5 on it to erase all T-mobile branding and have a HTC factory stock one similar to a home PC re-install.
Has anyone written a tutorial on how to wipe and re-install, I tried searched but couldnt find anything.
Thanks for any help you can give.
If you do not want the Tmobile crap, just hardreset the phone. During installation, soft reset the phone just after the security section (when it ask if you want to set a password). That will get rid most of the Tmobile crap and your phone will be crap free. Although you may still have the 1st Tmobile splash screen crap. As for the O2 crap that you may need, either do a search for the CAB or you can always input it manually (not that difficult) once you got all the necessary info.
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry for this question but how do I do a hard reset?
So if I do a soft reset, which im guessing is just turn it off and back on using the power button, after the security section it will not put any of the T-mobile crap on it. Does that mean that if it needs to go back and I need to restore it to how I got it, I can do another hard reset and just allow it to run right through without doing the soft reset after the security section.
Start -> Settings -> System -> Clear Storage = hardreset

Factory reset - talk me through it...

As mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296102 I'm having some issues with my Wizard variant. In short:-
- It won't vibrate (I've tried all the software options)
- It won't sync (with either Activesync for PC or Missing Sync for Mac)
- The internal memory seems to have become locked, so I am unable to install new programs or delete unwanted ones.
It's a UK T-Mobile MDA Vario flashed with the I-Mate 2.16.9.1 WWE ROM about a year ago.
I'm starting to think that a full factory reset is my only option to get the thing working properly again.
Can someone please talk me through it or talk me out of it?
Thanks.

How do I reset the device to factory settings?
Select Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. Type 1234 in the box and tap YES. This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory settings
Well, that's the reset done. It seems to be stuck on "Running Install_Tsk.exe...". If it goes horribly wrong, Argos have got a cheapo phone on sale at £20 that'll tide me over until my contract expires next month...
You might try re-flashing the ROM you had on there or even upgrading to the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM and see if that solves your problem.
If I'm right, it should still be CID and sim unlocked from when I first flashed it with the K-Jam ROM. In fact, every time it has rebooted since the reset, it comes up with the HTC and I-Mate splash screens instead of the T-Mobile one I was expecting, which can only be good news.
I'm thinking of flashing it with a WM6 ROM. Any good ones come recommended?
I don't think anything will re-CID lock it unless you chose to do it yourself so you should still be good there. Which ROM to choose though is kind of based on personal preference. There's plenty to choose from in the WM6 section. The best thing to do is to read through the different ones, pick one you like and then flash it. If it turns out you don't like it that much, try a different one or use one of the kitchens and cook one for yourself.
By the way, before you flash any WM6 version, you should still flash t-mobiles 2.26 so you have a good IPL/SPL to work with and a clean base for it since you're having problems with your old version.
Thank you very much for your tips. Tomorrow is Sunday and I have no plans; looks like it's ROM flashing day!
Good luck. Make sure you read through everything before you flash anything, but since you're already CID unlocked it should be easy.

Will the WING stay Unlocked after Hard Resetting?

Please help,
I have an unlocked T-Mobile WING and the tap screen suddenly does not respond. After going thru the forums one option that I have is to hard reset.
Does the phone still stay unlocked after the hard reset? I went thru a lot to get it unlocked!
I also need to know what do I need to backup before the hard reset? Contacts, calender, tasks, theme, other files? Is the only way to do a backup on WING is thru Activesync on a PC?
I used to own a Blue Angel where I could back up everything on the storage card and thus restore using xBackup. Is there no similar feature with the WING?
first of all ... define "unlocked"
SIM unlock or CID unlock?
If the touch screen doesn't work, Is he OS operable? do the hardware keys work? Are you able to navigate thru the phone using the wheel and hardware keys?
Connect it to a PC and setup activesync to backup any files you need... you can explore the phone with your PC and save any files you need ... as well as backing up your contacts with activesync.
You can try doing a hard reset or running the Stock RUU
which will restore the factory ROM ... or you can try installing any other 3rd party Rom depending on what you have done to your phone regarding what you call "unlocking."
Thanks dupred, the phone is 'SIM unlocked' I use it in Africa on my local network..
Everything else works fine, all the hard keys and alternative navigation works apart from the tap screen which suddenly just stopped without any impact on the phone!
Sorry, just noticed that its duprade!
Try a hard reset ... hopefully that will fix it.
Regarding whether or not the phone will remain unlocked... I don't know, I've never SIM unlocked my phone, so I couldn't tell you... maybe someone else has the answer to this question.
sim unlock should ALWAYS stay in place no matter what phone you have. thats the nature of a sim unlock.

Phone Function Dead?

Ive been having some problems off and on with my phone not getting any service. I would restart the phone and it would work for a while. But now I cannot get service anywhere and the phone seems to not work at all.
Has anyone else experienced this or are there any tricks to try and fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the device seems to be now useless. Thanks
Yep, same with me. I've just upgraded ROM to Faria's last version and still not working the dam phone func
My provider is Vodafone-PT, and i have a Dual Simcard. Even when the other sim is off (unregistered on the vdf network) my hermes simply doesn't register. Not even the emergency number calls are avaiable!!! However, all the other funcs are working fine.
I think it is a softw issue, but i'm still not getting to the point to solve this problem...hope some masters can help us.
regards
plenty of things you can try and troubleshoot with, hard reset, check for bad blocks, flash new radio/ROM.
As XtreMe_G said. I've been running Faias for the last week or two with no radio problems. HR problems, now thats another story. Mke me wanna go back to wm06.
...my problem now is WORST...i've tried to downgrade SPL to unlock CID and SIM, but for somehow the active sync crashed during the rom upgrade. Now i only see the tricolor screen, and active sync doesn't recognize my term!!!
The tri-color screen is bootloader mode and active sync will not recognize your device at this point. Start the ROM upgrade again and go through it. Sometimes the cooked ROMs might flash otherwise always, shipped roms are capable of being flashed from bootloader itslef.

Carty..

[Q] recently unlocked S5 can't register to any networks

Hello, I've had my s5 for a while on a Vodafone contract with no problems. The phone was rooted and had a custom recovery. I recently got it unlocked from a local shop due to moving contracts and now since then the phone will not connect to a single network. I have tried 3 different sims from different networks and all the same result. I flashed to stock again and no help. My device status reads:
Network: unknown
Mobile Network type: unknown
Service state: out of service
Mobile network state: disconnected
Phone number and IMEI are correct.
Dialling *#06* shows my correct IMEI. I can't get into any service menus due to no root now, and my EFS folder appears empty
Any help will be useful, thank you
Was root broken by the unlock? A SIM unlock shouldn't break root. First try wiping your system cache from recovery mode. If the problem persists, then your best bet would be to restore your backup which will certainly resolve your issue and let you proceed from a stable position. If you don't have a backup, what the hell? Why wouldn't you be making backups?
As (a much less desirable) alternative, make a backup at this point or at least save any important files or photos. Then temporarily install a 100% stock ROM followed by a factory data reset. This is to rule out software issues other than EFS. If your phone now works, then it was a matter of a broken root or conflicting settings.
If you still have problems, then you need to provide a lot more information if you want good advice. We can't see your handset so if you don't give us a lot of details all anyone can do is flail around in the dark and make guesses. Try your SIM card in another unlocked phone to confirm that it still works. Confirm that you wiped your system cache and tried a factory data reset. And tell us step by step what you've tried so far.

Thanks for the reply, I will describe as best I can what is happening:
Firstly as the phone rebooted from the unlock I could not register to any networks. Root was still there and TWRP also . I restarted the device, and nothing happened. So next I tried a different aim and still I have no network. Both aims work in another phone. I did what you mentioned next and restored a backup and still no fix.
I tried factory resetting and wiping the cache and again, no fix. Then I flashed the stock firmware through ODIN which had no effect either.
If I use the sim in another handset then return to my s5 with it on first boot up it registers to EE and pulls a signal with no Internet, then quickly unregisters to emergency calls only.
Thank you for your help, I will give any info about the device that you need.
