WMP & Coreplayer on X1 - XPERIA X1 General

Hi,
Got my Xperia X1 the other day, I have got Coreplayer Mobile as well as the WMP on the phone. I have copied the videos I took with my Nokia N95 to the memory card Ive got in the Xperia.
However when it comes to playing them WMP will play them but it stutters alot with the sound being ahead of the video. In coreplayer there is no video only sound.
Any of you guys got any suggestions to get the video playing smoothly. The videos are .mp4.
Thanks

Try to set in Videosettings QTv Display, here I get a picture and it works ok, not the promissed 30 fps but arount 20 fps with a HDTV Movie.

I tried that. I changed to the DirectDraw option and it plays the James Bond Trailer no problem but the videos from my Nokia N95 still stutter alot

Then I don't have any more ideas. Perhaps it'll help trying TCMP instead of Coreplayer?!

Found this on Coreplayers website:
CE/Windows Mobile/PocketPC/Smartphone
---------------------------------------------------------
- Does not support the Qualcomm MSM7200 QTv chipset (we only support the MSM7500)

Is anyone running Coreplayer? Is there anything better?

I've tried to find a resolution/bitrate which gives me smooth video without stuttering and dropouts. I've tested on CorePlayer with DivX and native mp4 codecs.
With a resolution of 400x240, 25fps, 1100kBit/s I get a picture without dropouts and a benchmark around 105%.
If I go higher in resolution I start getting dropouts.
I've set the CorePlayer to Microdrive mode and doubled the size of the buffer to increase the speed when reading from the memory card.
I've tried to copy the clip to the phone memory, but with the above settings I see no difference.
My conclusion is that if you want a smooth picture, don't go above the mentioned resolution. It won't give you that crisp picture, but I get more annoyed when the film is stuttering than getting a HD resolution on a 3" display.
I have no problem seeing mp4 on the CorePlayer though. But if I uncheck the "TyTN II driver mode" in QTv Display settings, I get only sound, no picture, despite the MSM7200 chipset . Don't know if the Nokia's format differs from the one I have used (Cucusoft Ultimate DVD).
Is there anyone else who manages getting a higher picture quality without any dropped frames?

Got this from the Coreplayer forums:
'We are on the verge of the v1.3 bug fix release that addresses many of the current issues including those diamond users running WM 6.1...... however it does not address the QTV issues since there is nothing we can control there other then to express our dismay to both HTC and Qualcomm for not opening up the GPU.
Hey... we've been here before.... lets hope for a more open solution soon enough.'
I wonder what SE's position is on this? Apparently it's meant to have a decent GPU but what's the use if we can't use it? I know one or two people here have contacts with SE - anybody wish to find out?

Praying for hardware supported video playback...

but they said that X1 uses ATI GPU not Qualcomm!
Another lies from SE?

Hey guys, i know this is abit off topic, but has any of you guys had the problem were you install core player, then play a video, and then you exit and go back into it and you the the message "cannot validate the serial number/user ID"? i have uninstalled and reinstalled heaps of times, tried different serial numbers, but it happens all the time use it once, and then the message comes up when you go back into it.

Why do you have multiple serial numbers?
Surely it's one Serial per IMEI?

im running coreplayer latest version, and i'm playing divX files direct from my coputr, no downsample full reselution, and with 30fps usibg qtv, it's awsome!

for real ? 640x480 24FPS at 800kbs is really laggy for me when playing in CorePlayer using QTV Video Output.

Says who, I haven't seen any info about it, any links please.
Of course the qualcomm chip has indeed 3D hardware acceleration but I don't know if it is ATI.

unbelieveable how unprofessional are they! 1st the RAM debate, and now this; not to mention that bad launching and availability.

It is rather disappointing. Even the fish panel is hardly super smooth, leading me to wonder if even that uses the GPU acceleration.
I really do hope SE allow and encourage developers to tap the GPU of the X1 otherwise its little better than all the other WM phones.
I have hope that someone with a reputation like SE will see the sense supporting the developers. The "write something for the panel" is not good enough. The radio is a panel and as the panel is like the home screen, anything on it is turned off when I navigate away from it including the radio.
I really do hope they do not turn out to be as bad as networks like T-Mobile which can't be bothered to support HTC rebranded phones even if its got their name stuck on them.

after using it for 3 days it is now clear that the panels just use low res screenshots and no live data. They dont even update them, i live in germany and when accessing panels the screenshot says New York etc until it finally updates.
So for the panels just being low res screenshots (that must be only some KBs per panel) the performance is horrible and laggy. Cant believe they use any form of hardware acceleration for that either.

If the video is encoded in H.264 it's going to be lagging full on. Half of the frame will get dropped. Playing 720x400 24FPS at 1Mbps encoded with XviD on the other hand is smooth and not a single frame is dropped. I've tested this with TP.

Does anyone know how to change the default streaming video player to Coreplayer?
It's very annoying when browsing and the Streaming Player kicks in rather than Coreplayer. I've associated 3gp, mpeg4, etc. with CP but doesn't seem to make any difference.

How to Fix ATI ImageON Bug in CorePlayer

CorePlayer and TCPMP does not support DirectDraw RGB mode and ATI ImageOn Video Accleration, after turn on the this option the screen can not display correctly, it seem have typhoon run on the screen.
Only DirectDraw YV12 YUY2 mode and Raw FrameBuffer can rendering correctly, but the performance on playing 640x480 DivX video is very terrible. The average speed only got 45%-70%.
I found some information in corecode forum TYTN and Hermes seem fixed some bug. but that method can not apply on Athena.
What setting are others using. I've tried running a 600x320 movie with Core player 0.81. It was very slow and stuttery.

my movie on tcpmp runs very smooth, full scrren with sound all sets to highest quality. no problem at all.
Using TCPMP, latest version. video playback is unwatchable, audio is fine but video is jerky, 1 frame per second or worse.

Video quality set to highest
video driver set to Raw FrameBuffer
Audio set to Stereo
Audio Drive use Wave output
Sound and movie play very very well, no delay at all. Let me know if you have different result.
Perfect! I had the video driver set wrong.
Working perfectly now, many thanks.
Great that works for me too.
Also guys & gals..tick the box for Micro drive in the settings dialogue...it helps. Has anybody managed to get DVD quality yet? If so, please give more info like encoded resolution, bit rate and codec used and application used for encoding.
Most of my old movies were encoded to 320x240 @ 600kbps and looked like DVD quality on my QVGA Hermes, but those same movies play very well on the Ameo, buy are stretched to smitherines and don't look good at all.
I've now tried using DVD-Ripped files (same encoding process as torrents) and these look absolutely beautiful, but are wide screen format so don't fill the entire screen. It benchtested at around 118% on Coreplayer and looks slightly better than on TCPMP which strangely benches at a slightly better 120%.
Another few suggestions:
In Coreplayer preferences:
Untick 'Slow video memory' & Tick 'Override AVI timing based on audio'.
Under Video I have selected:
Video: Rawframebuffer mode
Video Quality: High
Smooth Zoom: On
Don't Tick 'Dither' as it seems to cause the movie to look worse.
Good luck.
Here is my setting in CorePlayer 1.04 Build 716
1000Kbps 640 x 480 DivX Movie. Speed is reasonable.
~~DirectDraw Page~~
Overlay format: YV12 **** Remember must set this option first******
~~Video Page~~
Video output: ATI IMAGEON
Video Quality: High
Smooth Zoom: On
Dither: OFF
Accleration: OFF
P.S. We can't get the full performance on No DirectDraw overlay in RGB and ATI ImageOn with accleration,
But there have BUG in ATI ImageOn decoder in CorePlayer because ATI did not disclose the ImageOn structure.

Thanks for that Simdao...those settings you got do actually produce much better performance results. No lost frames now and benchtest has risen from 118% to 145% on coreplayer!!
Bare in mind people that I'm using proper DVD rips in which the video resolution is and bit rate is considerably higher than for 320x240 mp4s or equvalent Divx files....those files should yield benchtest results og 280% - 300%+.
This is great...only problem with the ATI Imageon software renderer is that you get some 'minor distortion' in interface mode...but perfection in full screen mode. Cheers mate.

Take that back. ATI has screwed up coreplayer today...I can't even get to change the settings as it crashes all the time even with soft-resetting the device!
TCPMP seems more stable in allowing me to change settings back to Rawframebuffer mode. Problems are definitely not resolved with ATI and Coreplayer or TCPMP....here we go again.

so you guys are saying that playback so far of call files have perfect video quality with no conversion nesessary?

What I'm saying is that Torrent DVD-Rips...search for ''axxo" rips on torrentspy.com (his rips are near on perfect), are absolutely perfect looking on the Athena. Comparable to DVD or even High def quality!!
Benching at 160%+ now too in TCPMP, but Coreplayer 1.04 has no AC3 audio support...hence the switch back to TCPMP 0.72RC....NO Conversion of video file necessary.

Video playback problem (not that it's slow). Garbled screen.

So it seems that I'm unable to play back any video format besides WMV.
WMV's play back fine while other formats (e.g. xvid, divx) do not play back at all. Coreplayer crashes to today screen or shows me a green garbled screen with vertical lines.
WMP just freezes and does nothing.
Is this a known issue (I didn't find anything using search)?
Any format of audio plays back perfectly fine (as long as it is not embedded in a video).
I had this, you need to change the Video driver to Raw frame buffer and all will be well. I use TCPMP and this was what I had to do for it to work.

I had done this at first initially too, but simdeo (fellow member) suggested Imageon setting, but NOT Imageon Hardware decoder. This has massively improved speed and visual quality, but you will get intermittent lines across the interface, but not in full screen mode. Settings should be:
TCPMP:
Video Driver = ATI IMAGEON
Buffering = Microdrive (ticked)
Advanced = Tick only: D-Pad, Use System Vol, Benchmark (none od these settings affect performance, just my preference - but selecting other options may adversly affect performance)
Direct Draw = YV12 and tick 'Overlay with colorkey' only.
That's it. Best performance to date and can play torrent or own DVD rips perfectly, providing they were not encoded as high as 640x480.
I'm having the same problems but cannot for the life of me find any settings on Coreplayer that will let me change the buffer settings or the driver.
I'm sure I'm missing something here.
Coreplayer version =1.0.4 build 716
It's the latest version afaik.

Ok, I found the settings in Coreplayer (yeah, I know, should have looked harder..) and all is now well.
Ok, so I've got really decent playback from standard 350mb XVid TV programs but I'm still having what appear to be buffering problems.
Does anyone know what the ideal buffer settings are?

I have found that overclocking the CPU yields in much better playback (although not perfect).
If I want to view a 640x480 video I run the CPU at 728 Mhz (what program would allow higher?), but still the fps is not up to par. I would say the playback is around 90-95%.

we use PHM to overclock our device, if you set to 728 and push mail and bluetooth all the time, you won't last for whole day, maybe just about 7 hours. But really you don't need your device on 728 all the time, and personally i think 728 is a bit unstable, so i use 662 when my device is on, otherwise 228 the rest of the time to save battery.
You MUST disable the internal scale from the PHM setting, otherwise it won't work

About TCPMP with the best settings applied as mentioned in this thread, is there something else we can do to further improve the playback quality?
I have some clips that feature "fast moving action" e.g. action scenes in movies. These clips will actually play, but when the "fast moving action" is there, you can see that it isn't going really that smooth/fast enough, resulting in noticeable, fast upcoming blocks/lines when you look closely. I'm not sure how to describe this effect best, but I guess pretty much everyone knows what I mean here.
Thanks!!

Hi.
Try playing any 3 minute segment of the video you have then click on File/Media Info and check the resolution of your video. If its below 640x480, then the problem is most likely a low bit rate used to encode the video, hence the pixelated blocks in high speed.
You can get away with less, but I encode now only at 480x320 @850kbps and get superb results each time...DVD quality and High definition quality too when I encode from HD source.
Can't say anymore than that. Click on my name and look through my posts, there will be a recent one entitled something like 'Excellent playback via Coreplayer & TCPMP'. This should help a bit if you have the time to read.

Coreplayer Audio

I've set my Coreplayer up as per the posts elsewhere in the Athena threads and the video quality is almost perfect now.
I'm using 320x240, DivX 6, 500-700KBps constant bitrate files.
Stereo MP3 audio. 96kbps or 128kbps.
After 10 mins of playback the audio slowly starts to lose sync (it plays fine on my PC).
Has anyone got any ideas what I need to do to stop the audio from losing sync?
Any help greatly appreciated.
hi
when you say "outof sync", does this mean that the audio is fine but the video is not "in time"? if yes, that's exactly what i was going to ask in the forum =) but i'll be trying the parameters you set. i've been meaning to ask the "optimized" setting for this application.

Yep, that's exactly it. It starts off fine, then ever so slowly the video gets ahead of the audio.
I've 'fiddled' with just about every setting I can think of within Coreplayer but have yet to find a solution.

ive already asked this question. with no replys. ive tried every setting and format possible. still loses sync. it doesnt matter if its from the sd card micro drive or streaming. it still loses sync. ive even tryed disabling the auto scaler and running tcpmp over clocked. still loses sync. im a a loss. if you find a solution let me know.
I guess we need to wait for the next version of Coreplayer which will (hopefully) be released on the 18th of June. It supposedly fixes some of the ATI issues.
I am so sick to death of this subject!! Not mad at you guys, but at ATI/AMD. This has been an ongoing issue since September last year when the TyTN was released with the ATI Imageon chip, and due to no input or support from ATI/AMD, Corecodec cannot fix this issue as it's to to with the Imageon hardware.
Bottom line is find the settings that work best for you. For me, I find TCPMP v0.72RC more stable and versatile than CorePlayer v1.04. Also set Video driver as Imageon (NOT Imageon decoder!) this yields best performance and visual quality 'during' playback.
If you're using DVD-Rips use the above setting, but if your playing/stretching QVGA 320x240 on your Athena, then Rawframebuffer mode is even more stable in the GUI, but lacks the ooomph of the Imageon driver, which to some extent might well eradicate your lipsync issues.
One more test folks. Play your video whilst your Athena is pluggen in to mains power. See if the lipsync is still out. If it is make manual adjustments in the A/V offset in TCPMP under Advanced.

With a hard reset playing even a video in windows media player still gives a audio lag. Its so bad, now i don't care about quility just let me have a video with audio i don't care how bad the video looks like.
Does anyone have any solution? ive tried all kinds of "video output" settings and it still gives audio lag (even raw framebuffer)

What is this -400Ms?
-400ms is -400 milliseconds as in time. The minus sign means "start playing the video 400 milliseconds ahead of the audio. Its perfect for core player put all the settings on max just take acceleration and dithering off. And it plays a DVD rip perfectly no conversion very sweet on its 5 inch screen
If you don't know put the -400 in the settings next to "manual A/V offset +/-" and just type in "-0.400"

Coreplayer plays flv files, yes. There's no need to separately install additional component. It benchmarks better than TCPMP in my test.

Graphics performance, QTv

Good afternoon!
I have the following problem: performance of my screen graphics while in full screen (ie movie, games) is rather slow. I have CorePlayer installed and it has a major FPS drop when there is a fast picture change in a movie. I've increased alot buffer allocation and put some settings that could ease the situation. I should note, that it happens only to movies that are not encoded before transferring to phone (they remain as is).
Also, I am unable to use QTv option as it gives me sound output only and my screen remains black.
Experience pretty slow graphics in games too.
If you could help me a bit with this problem, I would really appreciate it!
ROM: R2AA008 UK, but had same problem with previous version (R1AA017).

Good Afternoon,
please make sure you read one of the many many threads on this!
coreplayer DOES NOT support hardware playback on our devices at the current time..
Thank you for your reply.
I did a research already and all I found was that there is expected to be "better" support of QTv in v 2.0 of coreplayer. I assume better means that it is still working on current version.
Anyway, QTv is just a mere problem. The main problem when using any other type of video drawing, ie DD.
Also, I did not find much information about having slow graphics on X1. All I found were tweaks (some of which I have applied) and general performance issues, which I don't have.
If you would be so kind to address me to the right topic where the solution/discussion was mentioned, I'd appreciate it.
Best playback now is to convert the video into mp4 using HTC HD convertor (easy to find here) .. and then to play it in media panel or WMP. You can play movies in 800x480 totally smooth like that.
Second option is to use Core Player 1.3 with qTV .. but you will rarely find movie which will play at 100% with no conversion. Anyway CorePlayer is lot slower, which is easy to compare if you let it play those mp4 which play great in WMP.
Then there is TCPMP .. but that will hardly play anything any good.

scroll down or press page 2 (or maybe even page 3 as repeated threads like these push everything back) and you'll see there's at least two threads started by nawfalah, from the last week.
Managed to enable QTv support without decoding.
Thanks for your replies fards, Dr.Sid.
Still give it a try. It's really much better with conversion.

Same lag and stutters overhere. Any solutions out there allready?
Default mediaplayer suddenly stopped working on my TP2, though the quality was way better then the core player's. Too bad it doesn't work no more.
can anyone help with this after paying for core player it wont play anything with out stuttering along
everything used to lag for me in coreplayer, including videos but if i switch the audio settings to higher priority for mp3 files they play without a hitch. now if only i can find out how to do the same for videos
Add me to the list of VERY unsatisfied results with Coreplayer on the TP2... it absolutely SUCKS. BIG TIME. Laggy and crappy... how is a man suppose to watch all those great videos stuttering!
I had the same issue (laggy, ...) a couple of months ago. I sent an email to CorePlayer support and got this answer back :
"Hello,
This is a known issue and we are working with several people on trying to track it down and are hopeful to have it included with the next release. I can offer you a full refund if you would like.
Regards,
CoreCodec Support Group"
They expect to release the new version by the end of this month.
Just have to wait...
Hope it helps.
Are you using DirectShow? If not, try it.
Great on TP2
Coreplayer is running great on my TP2. Watched 2 movies today and the video looked great and frames were solid. Honestly its the best thing i did for my TP2 yet. I dont believe it will handle 800x480 but a little bit lower resolution should still be fine and the video scales very well. Check this review on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uONMuEeTo7A&feature=related
Watch near the end when he shows how Coreplayer runs.
REFUND!!!
So I just sent my refund request for Coreplayer. It has a bug with Tv-Out causing it to show a blue flicker. Also it has no real hardware support yet. The best thing I found was the Touch HD gui encoder program. It puts your videos into formats the built in players can use and those do have hardware support. So while coreplayer is a great app its not for the TP2.
Disable DirectDraw in TCPMP. Use GDI mode.
I am not sure if the following has any effect when DirectDraw is disabled, but this is the way I have it:
Select Options\Settings, then click on "Select page" and select DirectDraw.
You will see three options. Only select the one that says "use blitting instead of overlay"
This worked for me...
