Heh. Thanks. Mine are also... by FIRST name. Very annoying.
I love it. It's the Windows Mobile problem...in reverse
gmail only has one name field for contacts rather than a separate first and last name.
As with Windows Mobile, you could always reverse them in your gmail contacts and see what happens.

Good Morning Gents,
Synced up my Touch HD this morning and lol and behold, all my contacts started doubling up. Any one else experienced this issue? Or am I doing something really really stupid? This happened with my omnia too..
would really appreciate your help guys!

Or both from SIM card, one is for mobile phone nuimber and another for say the home or office number?

You sholud use the SKtools to erradicate the doubles.

Both from the same device.
I believe it is currently displaying the Outlook and MSN contacts.
Any way to make it ONLY show the Outlook contacts?
It's a known bug with activesync i know from old Hermes times. If you have this problem the fu..k will double the contacts each synchronizing.
Recommend new sync installation and new start-up synchro.
Yes, one list is from your Outlook contacts, and the other appears from your MSN list when you sync.
Go into the Windows Live sync options and de-select the Store WL Contacts.
I'm not sure if this will delete the doubledup contacts, but will prevent further download of MSN contacts in the future (so you might need to tidy up yoiur contacts list just once).

If you delete your hotmail/live/msn ID in Windows Live options. When you recreate your ID the checkboxes shouldn't be greyed out. It seems to be a one time only choice.

i have this, but i think its phone contacts, andcontacts saved to the sim card.
as i deleted all contacts in sim card and now only have one set of numbers.

I have this problem too, however I can't seem to find the option to delete the my hotmail/live/msn ID. May i know how do I go about deleting them?

Im trying to sync my contact in Mac OSX Address.app to my phone using Missing Sync. I noticed after i sync, all the contact names are sorted by last name, first name.. How can i sort by firstname, last name instead?

you might have to do them all one by one, but if you go to edit the contact, about half way down there is an option to sort by Firstname, Lastname

if i manually edit the contact display field to firstname, last name in the phone, the next time i do a sync again, will the setting be overwrite back to lastname, firstname again?

Im having a real issue with my contacts on my new hd2.
Outlook displays them perfectly but my hd2 for some reason lists them last/first which i find very annoying.
Anyone any ideas or solutions?

I found out hat the HTC interface sorts contacts using the outlook field DISPLAY AS, which bt default is LAST, FIRST.
I had to go thru all my contacts in outlook an dchange the DISPLAY AS field into FIRST LAST

Hi thanks for posting the cab, but for some reason its not working for me.
I've installed > restarted the phone > went into contacts, but still the same e.g. Lasr, First.
Please could give a brief explanation on how to get it to rearrange the contacts?

After you install the .cab file you have to go in to the program folder and start the app that was installed. But if you sync ur contacts with a google account they will go back to last,first name after each sync.

Sorry if this question was asked before, I did try using search but nothing came up.
Anywayz, I have my facebook account linked to my HD2. Everytime when i update fb information, all my friends photos are updated except for myself. Which means my photo is still the default htc one. Anyone help on how to change my own photo is greatly appreciated.

Are you looking at a contact you have named as yourself or the contact card ME that appears at the top of all people?
If you are looking at ME. Open the contact and click on the photo in the top right. You will see a list of options that tells Manila where to get the picture from.

In that case.... I have a problem.... repeated tapping of the contact image on any other person (well tried 5 so far, some with images some with none) and nadda
Mine does not update photo's or status' unless I click Update manually, even though it's set to auto update every two hours, I think the FB app is crap TBH
I am currently trying to add the contact photos from my facebook friends as offline outlook contact photos.
I a friend would cancel his account his photo would be gone and I wouldn't have any contact photo stored for his contact.
Is there a possibility to make the facebook photo the real offline contact photo? I knew it was possible with the Touch Pro 2 and I hope it is possible with the HD2 too.
Anyone would be so kind to point me in the right direction?

Fonebook doesn't seem to be the right program for me, because I do not sync with Outlook but with Microsoft My Phone and Booksync doesn't start and gives me an error.
I will try again with another ROM soon, perhaps something is missing in the one I am using.
AFAIK it is NOT possible by default in any HD2 rom, even manually. It is only possible through desktop sync apps, so I've seen anyways. Sorry I can't name any since the last time I did it was a yr+ ago!

Pretty sure Fonebook can do this! (I wrote it so I should know )
If I understand your problem correctly you want to set an outlook contacts profile photo to their facebook profile. You can achieve that this way:
If you start it, then click "Exclude All", then find your friend and untick "Don't Synchronise Friend". Now go into Settings and untick everything but contact picture. Click save then hit "Sync Contacts" it should work!
However - if you are just doing this for one contact then it would be far less work to simply save the photo out from facebook, then add the contact photo in Outlook?!
The thing is: I do not have Outlook.
I just have all my contacts on the phone and on Microsoft "My Phone".
Now I have around 50 facebook-friends whose contact pictures I don't wanna lose even if they decide to leave facebook.
When I edit a contact in the phone I can chose between "Outlook photo" or "Facebook photo". But there are contacts I do not have an Outlook photo for, only a Facebook photo. So it would be fine to save the temporary Facebook photo as a permanent Outlook photo.
I will try Fonebook if you say it can do this but I just realised that the latest is a Trial version.

My bad, Outlook is a requirement for Fonebook.
P.S. the trial is fully featured so it would have worked, but as I said Outlook is a requirement!

Wha?? I've never had any facebook contact close his account/leave facebook since I use it...
I'd just don't care, if one day one actually did close his account, which isn't very likely, I'd certainly find another photo...
