what do we know so far about the X2 (first pic in now out june 3rd) - XPERIA X1 General

edit: first pics are out nowhttp://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/sony-ericsson-x2-spotted/
this is just my wishlist:
-much faster internal flash memory. installing a cab or launching an app takes same time as much as the 6-yearold HTC-magican
-Same form factor (sliding keybord)
-Screen should be at least 3.2” without increasing the total size of the phone. Seems doable if they optimize the unused space and relocate some of the buttons to the side. 3.2” should be the new 2.8. 3.2 is also much friendlier for hand use and easier on the eyes
- faster CPU. Samsung already using 624mhz and asus will use 800mhz very soon
- built in falsh should be at least 2 or 4 GB just for convenience+ the sd card.
- jogdial and maybe an extra button on the side (record, comm., ok…etc) to improve usability with 1 hand use
- keyboard needs a fifth raw with a slight increase in button travel distance.
- the panels is bloated and takes too much memory and slow. It needs to be optimized
- accelerometer. Too many developers are starting to make use of this
- very quick release date. Its not like we are asking them to do a totally new hardware. All these things seem like tweeks to the current model. No later than first half of 09

Over at esato, there are rumours that SE is already working on its new xperia which will come with wm7, have a 5mp cam and will be based on qualcomm snapdragon 8250. I wish that it is true.

I would'nt say that too loud, the Qualcomm chipset features the 528mhz ARM11 based CPU with a 274MHz ARM9 coprocessor, and dont forget to mention the ATI Imageon although it doesnt get much use on WM6.
The Samsung is a older generation Xscale processor. Compared to each other, there wouldn't be an noticable difference afaik, probably the Qualcomm is faster theoreticly speaking.
A OMAP3-like chipset would be awesome though. (Arm Cortex powered, about 2-3 times faster compared to the X1 chipset)

Would love to see that 1 Ghz qualcomm in a phone.

That would indicate that we need to wayt till late 2009 early 2010 for the next Xperia device.

Thought WM7 is delayed to the end of 2009 at best...

sonyE already said that xperia would not be tired to an os
and they might not use wm on the next x2
so maybe it will be symbian or android or something 3th
as they are not currently a part of the android group

Seems it's not going to be Symbian - http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/...-uiq-is-teh-sux-probably-doesnt-bode-well-fo/
WinMo or Android imo.

if winmo 7 lives up to the hype then that would be nice
i would say some wishlist stuff for the x2 would be a bigger screen maybe between 3.2-3.8
better keyboard, more buttons, capacitive screen, multi touch, and accelerometer would be nice
but this is coming from somone that doesn't actually own one

I'm very very very happy with the current generation xperia phone. Only complaint really is how sony have handled (Or mishandled) the launch of the product.
It's almost like a call centre opening at 9, but calls only get answered from 11 o clock onwards - why launch something September 30th then start to sell it Nov 30th?
That aside, great screen, decent keyboard, blazingly fast (panels aside), good connectivity and a premium feel all make for a phone i'll be happy with for the next 18 months at least.

Not UIQ but most likely Symbian Foundation

sorry to bring this from the dead but the people above are taking about many roumers. i was wondering if there is any news about about the x2 or whatever they end up calling it. are there any solid info that htc wont be building it (i care because of xda support)

sony is loosing money big time on ps3 and global crisis
sonyE is loosing money too
doubt we will see sonyE making too many revolutionary products
in awhile
time for them to feed the cash-cows

think it will be the end of the year or early next before they release the x2.
by then we will be in wm7 (if the x2 is a wm device)
prob be 1gz cpu
512 ram
8 - 12 mp camera
oled screen
(going by there prototype model phone that they showed at mobile show, would not expect it to have weaker specs)

one thing for sure about the next xperia... it will NOT be made by HTC

i would be very surprised if sony ditches the windows mobile platform for xperia:
-they already have many other symbiyan based toy phons.
-they need to differenciate their only buisness line phones from the c,p..etc series phones
- the recent realease of mxp,Xtract and r3a roms (despite their money situation ) *may* suggest that they are commited to winmo for a future phone
my guess, SE (like samsung) are waiting for official wm6.5 (q3) orr even wm7 before announcing anything. unlike HTC they probably cant afford to flood the market with a zillion diffent similar models

that would be really bad to sony. as i cant imagine the x1 being a worthwhile device if it wasnt for the proper support of this site. none of the other site out there can be considered even "good enough"

its said they wont use htc again for future devices but till they make the x2 nobody knows. i remember sony not wanting to use the company that makes the ps3 pads rumble because of the lawsuit with the company but then they did after people complained about lack of rumble on the pad.
I think it all depends on how comfidant sonyE is on making there own wm phone from scratch.
I also hear sony may buy out the ericsson half of the business so that will change a lot of how things are done as a company.

Just to give some reference of time SP1 is a prototype hardware revision. @ SE it goes, DPX.X -> SPX.X -> APX.X -> PQX.X ....so a X2 announcement shouldn't be too far off.

Touch HD vs. Xperia - A non-professional view

The way i see it... it totally depends on what attracts you more - a no-keyboard slim black iPhone like mobile or a professional looking and metallic keyboard bearing mobile. That alone should determine your choice... but considering you want to go into depth:
1. Xperia has more RAM. Infact almost 100 MB more. Which is simply awesome, especially if you are looking to port heavy games onto the mobile or run tons of software. How much RAM will panels take up is a big question, but keep in mind that if needed you could release the RAM taken up by Panels by disabling them or setting them however you want. (Loading 9 heavy panels will probably take more RAM than keeping 9 basic or default panels)
2. When it comes to Screen, though both have the same resolution, Touch HD gives you a bigger display with its 3.8 inch screen over the 3 inch Xperia screen.
3. In regard to camera, the Touch HD is again ahead of Xperia with a 5 MP camera over the 3.2 MP camera in Xperia. However, if one thing Sony Ericsson knows best, it is its Camera... so i can pretty much say that Xperia's 3.2 MP camera would be enough to take on the Touch HD 5 MP camera. Video recording is in both, and most likely Touch HD will match the recording capabilties in terms of resolution with Xperia - but again Camera quality of Sony is expected to be better. Both devices have Touch Focus as well... but one other thing to note is that Touch HD has no camera flash!
4. Main interface - Touch Flo 3d is superb looking. But Xperia Panels are not behind. Though Touch Flo 3D is shiny and extremely attractive, it lacks big time in customization. With Panels, customization is the key... and with time as developers start releasing new panels, we will probably see some really awesome stuff in terms of functionaity as well looks. Not to mention, the way you switch panel mode (fan, side-by-side, etc.) is nothing short. So if you are one who loves to have the possibility of as much customization as possible, like me, then Xperia wins here. And in my opinion, in terms of functionality and extendibility Xperia again wins here.
5. Battery - Xperia carries a bigger battery than Touch HD. Though how much time each will provide, we can't say for sure at this point...
6. Manufacturer - HTC vs. SE. This is SE's first WinMo device, so concerns arise... but given the fact that HTC was behind in this device's manufacturing as well, i say that we can rely on the device.
7. 3G Reception - Foo, a senior member here at XDA Developers has brought to my attention that Touch Pro suffers from poor 3G reception but another member says that this is not the case and that he doesn't face any such problems on his Pro. Considering that HTC has improved Touch HD in various aspects over the pro - bigger screen, higher resolution, better sensitivity to the touch screen, more powerful camera and so on - we will just have to wait and see if the 3G reception in Touch HD is better than Pro or not. As for Xperia, we'll have to wait and confirm for that when it releases.
8. Accelerometer - The major feature missing from Xperia is the Accelerometer. But other than putting a lid on some possibly cool games, i don't have much concern over this. But of course, here the Xperia is beaten by the Touch HD!
Other than that, basic differences are there... LED indicators on the Xperia, and In Call Recording in Touch HD, but none too major to consider here. (i leaved keyboard out of this as i already put that forward in the first question i asked at the start of this post).
Conclusion: From where I sit, Xperia is a winner with its sexy look (c'mon. it. is. steel!), fully customizable interface (panels), more RAM, Flash on the camera, full stylish qwerty keyboard, and more.
Hope this helps...
And if anyone feels like it, then add to the list anything you want.
Best Regards.
Salman Khalid.
You must have heard htc is the odm behind x1. From the reviews camera seems close to diamond and pro but with touch focus.

Yes, i did point that tout in the post above... but HTC had more to do with the hardware from a Win Mo point of view... the Camera is something that SE obviously didn't need help from HTC on.
As for actual comparison of picture quality... we'll know for sure in a few days as to how good Xperia's camera actually is. (one picture over at the Xperiancers blog shows it to be really good)!

This information is outdated. SE increased the RAM in the meanwhile (most likely due to performance issues) up to 384 MByte RAM which is about 100 MByte more then Touch HD has.
But I don't really see both devices in line for comparison, because one has a slide out keyboard and the other one not. This makes a huge difference in usability when it comes to writing and people who are looking for a device with external keyboard really want and need it.
So for most buyers of the Xperia X1 this normally is not only a gimmick like some nice LEDs or better camera, etc - this is really a buy or no-buy decision.
So for me both devices are not comparable, though I voted for the Xperia as it is better concerning my individual requirements.

The reason i did the comparison was because both devices have been compared/questioned side-by-side on various forums now. One is comparing Touch HD and the other Touch Pro against Xperia...
Here's another compare http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=1469&id2=1117. Still HD is my favourite
As I posted in your other thread, a lot of this information is just wrong. Where did you ever hear the Xperia had almost 400MB of RAM? Every spec I've ever seen shows 256, the Touch Pro has 288, don't use it in your argument until it's proven... Even SonyEricsson.com doesn't have a RAM spec.
Haha I love how you're sooo biased you can't even say a 5MP camera is better than 3.2, "if there's anything SE knows it's cameras"... Yes, I know that their camera is not up to par with one that has 1.8MP more of resolution.
Once again, the Touch Pro has no issue with 3G reception, far better than other 3G phones I've used...
The manufacturer argument, why don't you make that argument between the HD and Touch Pro? It'd make just as much sense, all of the phones are manufactured by HTC.

Dude... it's my opinion, if you don't agree then don't, but call me biased at my own expense. I clearly stated that 'the Touch HD is again ahead of Xperia with a 5 MP camera over the 3.2 MP camera in Xperia', and i am sure many will agree that SE's cameras are one of the best in mobile devices... but i did not declare Xperia a winner over Touch HD but only implied that in my opinion Xperia'll be better. Furthermore - take into account that Touch HD lacks a flash for the camera, it will not perform up to par in certain conditions.

I was not aware of this... Maybe they'll add it in the end? or is it confirmed?
I really dont know which one i will choose, i have really bad experiences of SE, it´s quality, but since HTC manufactured Xperia, maybe it´s better.
But i don´t know if it´s worth the wait for the Touch HD either, since it is going to be released later than the Xperia..
I have surfed the web all day long for about 2 days now and really dont know which device to choose.
Really hard!

TOUCH HD
The comment about the camera is correct. For printing up to A4, anything over 3mp is usually massively outweighed by the lens opening and quality. Small opening ... small amounts of light - causes issues regardless of the CCD or CMOS. It is also correct to suggest that the SE devices have a history of being closer to compact cameras in quality than the toy town stuff you usually get from HTC (I've had loads of HTC devices and love them but the cameras are of little practical use). The other thing worth saying that the X1 will shoot 640x480 video and 30fps like the Nokia E90 and N95. The quality of video of the latter two is almost up to the Hi-8 camcorders (if in good light) which makes them a genuinely useful camcorder alternative. The HD (and all native HTC devices) are still QVGA and the video looks rubbish even on a 2" window on a PC. This should be a huge plus for the X1.
My concerns about the X1 relate to the likely hood that SE won't support and develop the platform. There are many rumours about the Sony and Ericcson relationship as well as the SE / HTC one. Also, Sony will not commit to any future WM devices - infact, it seems they are completely non committal about future OS - UIQ, Android, WM etc. When you look at the P1 issues ... never resolved even after a huge backlash by customers ... it's not promising.
The X1 performance / tuning also worries me. It was announced that there were gfx / video perf issues with 30fps playback very shortly before the release date. They didn't answer any real questions in their pathetic webcast either ... I think there will be fairly horrible issues initially and worry they won't fix them. The added RAM so late in the day may sound positive ... but it shows they don't really know what they are doing. They will have added it because performance was too slow. Do remember that that amount of RAM with WVGA will really cane the battery - a negative which people aren't really considering.
I worry also about the keyboard ... I guess we will have to wait for the first purchasers to confirm either way. These things are enough to stop me pre-ordering when 3 months ago it was a definite purchase for me.
The HD has no keyboard ... I might be able to live without. The problem is more with the lack of button controls. Again, we know very little about it. I would hope HTC would include some kind of soft dpad with dynamic scaling which would allow apps to run VGA on top of the extra screen estate which would have the soft buttons / dpad. If they don't do this, I am very concerned about real day to day use. If they do deliver such a soft key set, then I think it would be almost perfect as long as something else is not missing - like TV-Out ... strangely not detailed ... even though some sites suggest in the spec it is there. The only massive irritation for me is the camera - no flash and no VGA 30fps capture on something this expensive. I was hoping to replace my TyTNII and N95 8GB with a single device .... and it looks like I will still need two - seems like a stupid oversight for such an expensive device. The 3.8" screen may still sway me though. I don't need tiny like lots of people ... as long as I have a decent belt case.
Paul.
two very different devices targeted at different markets, daft trying do a compare on them as one is more of high usage business device the other a low usage media device.
Business or personal
So out of these two, if i wanted a phone to do work on with occasional media usage, id go for the X1, if i wanted something that looked swanky and was a good phone but ultimately a low work usage device then the HD would be it, course using that same logic id actualy not go with either of them as the TP is even more buiness orientated

Oh my god... Did you seriously just say a big issue when making a business oriented phone is having a big screen? That's the most ridiculous claim I've ever heard. In that case, the Touch HD will be purely for business, because the entire phone is just one huge screen. Big screens = multimedia use... iPhone, Touch HD? I don't think I've ever seen a businessman complain "oh man this screen is too small", if that were the case all businesses would have 42" LCD monitors for their computers.

Xperia X1 Review - Finally, an indepth review!

Hi All,
A rather large review of the XPERIA X1 has been published at German Areamobile. Pretty much the first one to go into such depth as they did.
Although the review is originally written in German, thanks to Google all us non-German speaking/reading folks can have a go at it as well.
http://translate.google.com/transla...e.de/tests/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_X1/teil_I.php
Major Cons:
1. Flash on the camera is not good.
2. Some panels can take upto 2 to 4 seconds to refresh/load up at times. (He goes on to say in the conclusion that the lag will most likely be improved in a firmware update later)
Some things to note:
1. The reviewer says: "To put it in a nutshell: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is faster than HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro and Samsung i900 Omnia."
2. He goes on to say: "The touch screen also reacts more sensitive than those competitors." But it is behind Apple iPhone and also HTC Touch HD in terms of screen as well as speed.
Best Regards.
i would say that is true. In other words its the best win mobile phone atm

I'll probably have to agree with that.
I'm a little baffled how it manages to "outspeed" the Touch pro when they have the same processor and the Pro has more RAM. Is there some aspect of the hardware where they differ that I'm overlooking (did the 128MB of "extra RAM" for the graphics turn out true?)
Or is it more a matter of superior drivers? If so is the possibility of porting Xperia drivers to the Pro open? I'm still see-sawing between Xperia and Touch pro. My initial call was to take the "hit" in inferior screen for far superior Keyboard and TV-out and get a TP along with paying extra for an extended battery, but it seems the more I read the less clear it gets (especially when I see some of the issues the Touch Pro has on its board).
It seems every day I read something that changes my mind, lol.

I am selling it for 4000:- Swedish kronor with car mount, 8 GB memorycard, two wallchargers and one carcharger Hardly used, had it two weeks untill it died and then it took four weeks to get it back from HTC - they really suck on support
Send you a message
Well im pretty sure the graphics ram amount is true because it is faster then the touch pro without a doubt. Just starting up is faster then the touch pro. If not htc/sonyericsson just implemented the hardware better in the x1. Now im just waiting for a proper touchflo 3d release for the x1 then i wont even look at the htc phones for awhile
For how long has the german version been out?
p.s. and why is it without memory card?
The review is generally very positive for the Xperia.
But also a few things that are not quite right.
**"Aluminum Contruction". What? All specs call for Steel.
**"No 3D support". That's ridiculous. The Qualcomm chip has one of the best 2d/3d hardware/drivers support in the Industry. Check the video info in qualcomm's data sheet (bit longer to load, please wait....)
http://www.datasheetpro.com/817053_download_MSM7200_datasheet.html
**The panels takes up to 4secs. -- They have a proto with an old ROM. Latest videos feels smooth and quick.
**"Faster than Diamond & Pro." This one I believe them. Why? fine built vs cheap built. For example: same 3.2 mp camera but they explained why Xperia's is better. But definitely what can make a big difference is the better and faster graphics, so apps don't stay iddle while waiting for display to be done. They even compare with iPhone :
..."the highly sensitive touch screen can only be with the Apple iPhone 3G compare."
They praised the bigger keys and better layout of the keyboard. I like that.
I love the final sentence:
..."Thereafter, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, without doubt to a new reference, to which all others must be measured."...
YEAH!!

As a community we are here of Blackstone users, im curious whether will upgrade to HD2?
Actually im satisfied with the HD as i can do everything i need, especially with the ROMs we found here. But i think its question of time that ROM-makers migrate do Leo, isnt it?

Just what the poll needed thanks!! I voted the 4th..
no for me...
more todo with the HD being a work phone. not sure when im due for a replacement but as most places int he current climate - we aint replacing much kit unless it's essential.
HD does me perfect really. does everything i need it to.... although it could be a bit quicker!
i love winmo..which is coming to extreme soon
ofcourse yes
i would like to upgrade
i read opinion out here .. for me I made a query aswell if i could upgrade it or not like what iphone 2g did with 3g 100£ and upgrade option..
for me what i think is htc touch hd is great but two things missing on it...
i.e Responsive ness (really important for being quicker "as someone mentioned up" about htc touch hd not being quicker)
second is multitouch gives lots time saving on internet browsing what i learnt using iphone....
solution on htc touch hd2
multitouch and responsive ness as it uses sensitive (capacitive) screen which is in detailed mentioned on general forum aswell.
of course i am winmo lover as i hate toy type of things and the hype iphone has got.. (yet considering the usability and ease of use it has provided for general users,) i believe our htc touch hd is real tool.
in the end i would love to upgrade if there is anything like upgrade option....... as i still have my 8 months left on contract.
I'd love to, but it's too expensive to consider. I never spent so much in a mobile before as with the HD, and it must last another year at least to be worth the spent.
In most cases if there is something REALLY new on the market, it's a bit like a beta version.
See the first Iphone without 3g, touch hd with rarely supported screensize and the little bit too slow processor, or the first directx 10 cards with to slow performance for this technology, ...
Products with big "improvements" are mostly a little bit beta, so i think it's good to wait and look what's in the future

Absolutely not hehe. I knew that i was missing something. Cheers
Picked 4th one .
Hoping when the winmo7 version comes out, it'll have:
* the front face videocalling camera again (i like how it gives me the option to make videocalls and portrait pics with my gf and mates by giving a preview)
* maybe an even narrower, thinner, shorter body (same 4.3in screen)
* over 1350mah battery size
* that stylus they patented
others I'd like to see:
* Not necessary, but front-touch buttons like the HD. Unless they implement hardware buttons alot better than the HD2 (imo the layout and shape looks ugly)
* oled-amoled screen
My initial reaction to leak specs and pictures was:
No....not enough improvements for me to consider
When 6.5 Leo ROMs came out I was like:
Upgrade? I can have WM 6.5 on my HD!
After reading more reviews and videos:
I’m considering.....
Now:
Is it a question? Of course, yes!
Can't wait for delivery.
It is too big IMHO.HD is perfect sized.
But the capacitive screen and the Snapdragon are so attractive...
It's a hard choice
The faster CPU, multitouch (FINALLY) and the bigger screen make me find it worth the upgrade.
As for WM6.5 on the HD, ok, it works, but the HD is still, as it always was, underpowered for such a big display.
Only under the best and freshest of circumstances does it run smooth.
The new gen CPU should change this considerably.
And get ready, my supplier states HD2 to be deliverable on the 6th!

will have to 2nd that.
Have chosen Option 4.
More CPU Power is good but it is too big now (Not a problem though) and the removal of the front cam and stylus is really bad.
Better camera software is needed and flash should be better.

HTC made it: thanks to their big investment in research and development, they are the first to release Windows Mobile phone with multitouch. But there is one big problem:
... namely, unlike Samsung, that is providing SDK for Samsung Windows Mobile phones to take advantage of accelerometer, compass, etc, HTC is not providing such SDK at all, what is a big problem in case of HTC HD2, as one of our readers have noticed:
* Whatever remains of the Windows Mobile community is going bonkers over the HTC HD2 and its hacked-in multi-touch support. Why in the world does this matter if third-party apps won't be able to use it? I'm sure we'll see community API efforts on XDA-Devs, just like for past HTC controls (circular controller, zoom bar, accelerometer, etc.), but that's not going to extend very far beyond XDA.
Obviously what's needed is first-party support from MS, but given that WM development on MS' part has been in a coma for several years, the next line is the OEM, and HTC's support would be quite useful to build a collection of third-party apps that actually make some use of the device.
People talk about matching the iPhone-- sure, the HD2's hardware is impressive, but given its likely software state, it'll be miles away from the iPhone in actual usefulness. Why care about a digital compass, accelerometer, or multi-touch that won't work in any third-party apps?
Conclusion: since HTC HD2 is extremely expensive, maybe users should wait for Windows Mobile 7 phones where third party developers will be able to take advantage of multitouch and compass? Or maybe HTC should wake up and provide SDK for their Windows Mobile phones at last?
Note: according to leaked specifications of Windows Mobile 7, HTC HD2 will not (!) be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7.[/QUOTE)
Maybe yes, we should wait.

i'm really thinking about it, but i think i will wait for the next device announcement.
i guess it will have a smaller screen (capacitive also, maybe 3.8?) with snapdragon 1ghz processor and QWERTY keyboard.
that's what i need
Yes - the Touch HD's poor processor is annoying me everyday. It can't even handle predictive text when sending an SMS in a timely fashion.
It was great at the time, but it's now time for the HD2.
i would skip because i already spent a fortune on hd so it should atleast last another year...
but the snapdragon and capacitive touchscreen really makes you drool
Thought about upgrading, but then it's a really expensive phone that only corrects the HD shortcoming (power, speed, camera, capacitive...)
I will wait for the next generation of devices, and an OLED screen before I upgrade. The next question for me will be to decide between Android v2.0 (it's now only starting to become a real alternative to winmo if the Exchange support is done correctly), and Windows Mobile 7.0
Frankly at the minute, from what I see of WinMo 7, I am not impressed at all...

X2 now on sale

http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=187760
$879.99
I'm not optimistic about SE's sales on this one, lads. If I had that kind of cash around, I'd get an LG Expo in a second and pocket the $200 I had left over. Who knows what SE was thinking using a 2007 processor in 2010?
The X2 made a lot more sense in November 2009. The only true appealing feature of the phone is the 8.1MP camera. With the premium that SE will charge, most people are better off getting the HTC TP2 (and XDA support) and a separate digital camera.
I hope it does well though.

I also hope it does well, because I hope SE makes a Snapdragon WM device and doesn't give up on WM.
Just purchased an X2 =)
Will X2 b tweakable like the X1?
http://www.plemix.com/phone-sonyericsson-XPERIA_X2-phone
740USD
vodaphone uk which had a exclusive deal to sell the x2 has dropped the phone altogether, this is a bad sign.
Sony Ericsson seems to be digging there own grave.
No point to use 8.1MP camera with those in-phone optics. Overkill for lenses, with no better quality.
im looking forward to it. hopefully theyve sorted the little annoyances that plague the X1. im not concerned about a faster processor, the X1 can handle most of the stuff i require it to do, its the bugs that cause the lag. itll be running fine and then just get itself confused.lol. sticking a 1ghz processor into a phone is complete overkill and the same bragging rights as the pc cpu constant increases. ive got a laptop here somewhere that doesnt even have 1ghz.lol so why does a phone need it? its lazy programming that makes things slow.
my main requirements would be a) signal b) a keyboard that lasts more than 6months c) no cracks after a bit of light usage
there seems to be a few on ebay for $700-800 about £450-500.

Well, glad that the processor suffices for you, but i think for many people, the lagginess is a huge issue. I use a couple programs where i need rapid, on-the-fly data for my job, and the x1 is slower than my old Palm TX. Not good.
The 1gHz processor is not overkill or something for bragging rights for many of us; rather, it's a necessity because of the way we use our phones.

i was called by vodafone yesterday to say that they wouldn't be stocking the x2 and that i should look for something else.
unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything else worth having at the moment. :-(
The X2 is beyond me now - i really want a HD2 - unfourtunatley vodafone doesnt have them either >.<
Edit:
Coming soon page on vodafone doesnt list x2 anymore - thought the iphone is gone too >.<
Strange with this Voda isn't it?
i just read a review for the snapdragon expo... its got a 1ghz processor. the guy who wrote the review said that in most applications it wasnt any faster. with the added bonus of less battery life. so shows what little difference the cpu makes. the point i was tryin to make was, its usually the fault of the firmware or software that makes it laggy. 528mhz should be more than enough to browse the net, listen to mp3s or even watch videos... my old p1i could do it on a 208mhz processor...strange how a processor with twice the power (and dedicated gpu aswell) cant manage it...
i think you prove the point when you mention the palm tx being faster. that had a 312mhz processor?? so shows that cpu speed doesnt really mean much at all. sticking a faster cpu into the xperia brand isnt the answer...making efficent use of the available power is the key. early reports seem to suggest theyve improved greatly on the X1. fingers crossed thats true. i remember the p990 to p1i was similar situation. same processor but the p1i was much much faster and overall a far superior phone yet using most of the same hardware.
comeradealexi dont worry about vodafone not stocking the X2, ive not bothered with getting phones from my network for years now. if youre due an upgrade then get the most expensive phone they will give to you for free (if possible, one that can be unlocked easy as that will be worth more) then dont even open it, sell it on ebay and use that money towards buying the phone you want! the last phone i got was a nokia E71 for free, i sold it on ebay for £190 i could probably of got more as i put it as buyitnow and it sold within an hour. i then used that towards buying my xperia X1. also youll have an unlocked phone without all the networks restrictive firmware on it. and chances are if youre on this forum you know how to flash and customize a phone anyway. if you get a phone like the xperia from your network they will usually tie you into a very expensive contract too. ive got one of the cheapest unlimited plans from my network and just buy my phone seperately. more choice and overall much cheaper.
I'm sure in some areas snapdragon will be treat to use, like video playing.
Or browser speed/rendering.
In most cases incl. music, apps, photo making etc., app management it won't make any significant difference.
I don't believe it.
yeh, pretty much what i was thinking. the review i read is here if anyone is interested. i was considering it as an alternative to the X2 but i dont really like the look of it, and not too keen on the proprietary headphone jack amongst other things. sony seem to be the only ones who add LED notifications. a must for me as i have to have my phone on silent most of the time. such a simple yet essential feature in my book!
http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/20/lg-expo-unboxing-and-hands-on/
i think he sums it up quite well halfway through..
"You might think that slipping a mighty 1GHz Snapdragon processor this package works wonders, but after using the eXpo for a while, we're not so sure. It's not that the Snapdragon isn't a brilliantly capable core, it's that it's simply not playing in the same league as a bone-stock WinMo 6.5 build like the eXpo uses -- it's like trying to race a Ferrari in a parking garage (don't anyone dare make a The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift reference here).
In terms of everyday usability, we'd venture that an old-school 528MHz MSM7201A (like that found in the Tilt2) would work just as well -- and you'd get more battery life out of it to boot. Cores like OMAP3 and Snapdragon excel at powering flashy, modern, animation-intensive user interfaces, and considering that 6.5 is basically a tweaked version of a UI we saw early this decade, it doesn't need (nor can it really take advantage of) this kind of processing power effectively.
Gaming capability alone might justify it, but goodness knows WinMo isn't anyone's mobile gaming platform of choice these days. Perhaps the one place where you'd think the Snapdragon would pay dividends -- browsing -- didn't seem to have much of an effect; we didn't have an MSM7200-based phone side by side to benchmark it, but the eXpo doesn't scroll or zoom in IE Mobile with the creamy smoothness you might expect (it's not bad, it's just not anything special). We can't believe we're saying it, but yeah: this might be the first, last, and only time we wish a Snapdragon phone had an MSM7200 series chipset instead. Revel in it, because you won't see us making that statement very often.
"
Exactly what I was thinking about.

Windows Phone 7 Series will not support SE X1

Windows Phone 7 Series will not support SE X1
Microsoft is putting an end to free style design and is specifying three variants of Windows Phone 7 devices, that prescribe form factor, CPU, graphics and possibly more. Each variants, or “chassis”, specifies one of the most popular form factors, though we only have specifics for Chassis 1 for now.
Chassis 1 describes the requirements for “big touchscreen” phones. There’s no minimum screen size or resolution yet, but previous rumors suggested 3.6” WVGA. The minimum requirements for the CPU are 1GHz (that’s right - minimum) and graphics hardware is mandatory (Microsoft really wants to ensure a smooth UI experience it seems).
Not much is known about Chassis 2 and Chassis 3. Chassis 2 will have slide-out QWERTY keyboards in addition to the touchscreen (we guess CPU and graphics requirements are the same) and the Chassis 2 devices are said to be Treo-like (strange, because the Treos are bars with portrait QWERTYs, there’s no sliding).
It’s the Windows Phone 7 Chassis 3 devices that have the bar form factor. That would make them Treo-like, rather than the Chassis 2 phones, which sound more like, say, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2.
Previous rumors about the minimum hardware requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices also listed minimum camera resolution, GPS, Wi-Fi and even a minimum set of hardware buttons. These vary quite a lot, so we’re not sure about the specifics, but it looks like Windows Phone 7 devices will be inhabiting the high-end segment only.
The first Windows Phone 7 Chassis 1 devices should launch in time for this year's holiday season. There's no word on when Chassis 2 and 3 phones will launch.
This is very old news that both X1 and X2 won't support WM7.
... and yet some people are still asking for it.
(even now when WM7 isn't much more than a concept to the public)
there are even people in hermes forum asking for wm7 roms
The XDA chefs have spoiled everyone lol
I know its a very old news but now its official ;p
Hell, WM 6.5 isn't supported for the X1. Much less WP7....
WM 6.5 isn't supported, but the point is WP7 will likely be IMPOSSIBLE on Xperias.
So long live 6.5 !! (even though companies like Adobe and Skype are already abandoning it)
Is anyone else sad about the demise of Windows Mobile or at least apprehensive about Windows Phone 7 Series?
Demise is too big word I think..
About WM 7 - I feel interested and excited,
but equally afraid of rumours showing it a bit more locked platform.

What does that mean? I see alot of ROMs with titanium and WM 6.5 traits. Heck, even the Samsung Epix supports WM 6.5, it has titanium + the new and improved start menu and soft keys at the bottom.

If you see an X1 with Win 6.5, it's a hacked phone. There is no official WM 6.5 for the X1. The OP was complaining that WP7 won't be supporting the X1 when there is already no WM6.5 support for the X1 (try calling SE and tell them you're having trouble running 6.5 on your X1 and they'll just laugh at you)
ha, funny, I was just about to ask if X1 can run Win Phone 7

I can not see how anybody would want to put such a worthless UI in there phone, The dam UI looks like it was designed by 12 year old lol. But if you want a UI like that try Windows Phone 7 V2 by Fireslave it's pretty much the same except you can't use WP7 apps and etc.. but you can still multi-task haha .
