Microsd slot location?? - Touch HD General

Hello,
Can anyone tell me where's located the slot for the microsd card?
Is the same like in the Touch Pro, under the cover?

Yes, it's right next to the SIM socket.

On the Pro, do you need to reboot the device in order to replace the SD card? Or is it just hot swappable.

In one of the reviews it said it was hot swappable, of course some of the reviewers probably don't know what that means. So we'll have to wait and see. I hope it is, but I could live with one 16Gb in there too.

It's hot swappable. The only thing that you have to worry is to standby the device in order to take out the card so that no damaged could happen

Did you even TRY to search the forum first?
Old, old, OLD news. Don't try to put anything in there, it's just a hole and you'll lose your SIM.

WOW THIS IS SO GREAT!
Kidding... Did you check the forums?
This was discovered like on day one, in addition it's just the slot with no tech underneath, so if you try to put a sim card in it it will get lost inside the device and never be seen again.
In addition this has nothing to do with android development of the device ;-)
Cheers ;-)

lmao.. I hope you didn't put a sim card in there. It's just a open hole to the inside of the case. Anything you put in there will just rattle around the inside of the tablet. The wifi models DO NOT have the cellular device installed.
but is it usable though?
EDIT: nevermind.. stupid question
omg this is great guys, I just found a hole on the side of my tab that my USB drive can fit into!

I accidentally the whole tablet!
while this seems funny (well yeah it truly is) I had the back off of mine the other day (I took pics meaning to post them on iTweakit, com).
It got me thinking what was "missing", as in how hard would it be to add "the part" acer puts in the 3g version, there were no connectors, or non soldered points I could see, so I assume its a different logic board.
Anyways if you did happen to loose your sim card in that "hole" you can remove the back by carefully using a spluddger (this is a plastic screw driver intended to prevent marring the plastic) to gently pry it away from the clips. The thing is screw-less. I started around the dock connector, after the first "pop" the rest detaches fairly easily, you can use your fingers to continue prying. As a warning, remove your microsd card b4 attempting as it sits in-between the back and the logicboard.
Also I caution not to mess around with the microsd slot, I somehow damaged it slightly so it won't keep the card in unless I try to "click" it in about 20x at slightly different angles, so as far as I'm concerned I have a 48gb tablet now, as I won't be removing the sd card very often! At one point the card launched out (microsd slots are famous for such launches cause of the spring pressure), popped me in the eye ouch!
Yes, you have to be careful about sd.. I broke my sd card when disassembling the device (left the stupid thing inside). Anyway, with scissors or a screwdriver you can fix your sd slot. Usually any problems happen because it gets bent and either the card gets stuck or is too loose
Interestingly enough, there does seem to be a strange void space next to the battery, with two screw slots. Perhaps someone with a 3g model could take some pictures of their devices internals?

Anyone up-to-date on how a sim card connects internally? Could this port be hijacked for another purpose? If it's just empty space with blank solder points we could throw in another card reader (SD) or some other random piece of tech.
somewhere deep inside, I still wish the title was really true!

A 3G modem is supposed to be installed into the pci-express slot. On the wifi-only models the slot is not soldered and probably the pcie controller as well, although I didn't look for it.. But there's a lot of space inside so with some mad skills you can solder a usb hub and connect it between the pcb and external usb port..

[Q] Will I be able to replace this things internal storage?

Hey. Lately I've been looking at the Nexus 4, and It's great, except for storage. So what I was wondering is, maybe you could take the thing apart, take out the SD card, and replace it with another, bigger SD Card, preloaded with android 4.2. Yes? No? What are your guy's thoughts?
it's possible.
the difficulty, time, and skill required make the task improbable.
There are no sd card inside the Nexus 4. The flash memory is soldered on the motherboard.

Are you sure? (Serious question) I'm only asking because apparently the Dell Venue/Pro had an internal SD and apparently a lot of people took them apart and swapped since it was [Supposedly] fairly easy. Of course it voided the warranty though.

Sorry? I guess I thought they just soldered an SD Card inside Android Phones for internal storage.
EDIT: I found this: Link
I can tell you now, it will require removing the top PCB, as the FCC photos show that it isn't just under the back cover. How it is then attached to the phone I don't know

What you say about the flash memory is true, but otherwise: LIAR!!!
edit: @ps2owner: highly unlikely, they will just solder the memory chips on there, not an SD card. does not make sense.
Shame. Guess I'll just have to wait for a (Hopefully) 32 GB model

Broke My first Pi

Well, I dropped my pi with a sd card in and it broke the little pieces of plastic that hold the sdcard down. have it rednecked for now with a small plastic clamp and another pi on order but that sucks.
If anyone has any idea how to fix I am all ears. I have emailed element 14 about USA repair options

It would appear you are not the first.........

If you are a card carrying member of the Hardware Jockeys' Association, i.e. you are reasonably skilled with a fine soldering iron and know a bit about repairing surface mounted components (Google) - you can get the part for a couple of pounds/dollars/euros and replace it.
It appears to be surface mounted - not soldered through the board, which makes it easier. It is still not an easy job, but it is not impossible.
You may wish to wait until the new one arrives before having a go at a repair.

Had that happen too. They may do it under warranty so avoid fixing yourself until you get a clear answer back.
One solution will be to glue a micro sd card adaptor into the slot permanently and use micro sd cards (there are even half size adaptors available too). Less chance of additional damage that way.
I have emailed element 14 The makers. I live in the USA so ordering the part posted on the Rpi forum makes no sense. I did find this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150932200123
and for 1.50 USD It will be good to have incase they dont email me back.
and just ordered one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350629703528
When it comes to the point where you are actually going to wield a soldering iron at it, you may find one of these things invaluable, if you do not already have one in your armoury.

Even if you do get another one for normal use, the old one can be used for something or ebayed.

Use the credit card fix http://raspi.tv/2012/how-to-fix-a-broken-sd-card-slot-on-your-raspberry-pi I added an extra piece to help hold the card down works fine. I used crazy glue
Or solder a mSD to SD adapter like that (I broke a RPi too)
See my Photo
Will it be too much for a $35 item?
My SD card slot broke too when I tried to place my RPi in my new case.
So I folded a piece of thick paper and placed it on top of my SD card so the top of the case itself does push on the card that remains in the slot.
As long as I dont't use an other card it works

[Q] sd card hard to insert and eject?

Is it just me or that the sd card slot is very hard to insert and when u do manage to insert it, it's very hard to take it out? It's like impossible to do it with your hands unless you have long nails.
Just get something to assist you, it's hard to reach just with fingers.
Sent from my HTC One_M8
yes it is.
used the old stand by paper mate flair medium point the best sub for my thick fingers I've found.
alright. Good to know that my tablet's sd card slot isn't defective.

Dual sim with SD card

Just wanted to start a centralized thread for those attempting this. I seen one guy claim with pictures that show both sim active and also SD card, but no write-up. Can someone please post a good instruction set. I am sure people would be willing to donate for your time and effort. I know I would. I have a 64gb card dying to get cut up!!
I tried to dock an sim to sdcard, no success tho. SD card was shown but not the sim. I tried the sim after mounting in an old phone and it was functional.
You mean something like this?
That is exactly it...awesome link. Thanks!!! Now see if I have the gonads to do it. Worried the sim/SD card gets stuck in phone and I can't pull tray out...

Has anyone had success trying it ?
I guess this is not just for the Edge but also for the normal S7, right? The trays and software should be the same?

So tried tonight and the sim card would not fit while trying to close sim tray. Do you think the 128 GB micro SD card from sandisk thicker than maybe a 64 GB one from different brand? Suggestions guys?

I managed to make it work with a Sandisk 128 gb. Had to grind it a little bit and put a small drop of olive oil on the non contact side to help
getting in and out. After 2 days it still works.
I was also wondering if all micro sd cards had the same thickness, it might be interesting to compare.
Shouldn't it be possible to sand off the SD card a little to make it thinner without destroying it?

This is just what I did on the side of the card where it is written the size and speed of your micro sd card.
I did it with a small grinder but sand paper should be more adequate. Do it lightly and try many times
till you think you can totally insert the tray with difficulties. Then add a drop of lubricant (i used olive oil) on the non contact side
and it should work. After several hours of the tray inside the phone, I found it was a little easier to insert/remove the card.
The combo 2 nano sims + 128 micro sd has been working well for 5 days now without problem.
Good luck and take your time to sand it slowly and blow the dust so it does not come inside the phone on the contacts..
I finally got my sandisk 128 to work without sanding. The backside of sd card has a hump so trying to get it to sit flush was hard with double side tape so it would stick up and slide away. So read that best way is just glue it down especially side that goes in phone first. I used plastic chip clamps to wait for it to dry. Sat great on SD card. Have it a good wiggle in. Bam all good with T-Mobile ATT and 128gb storage. Thanks again XDA community!!
