Chat with SE about X1 - XPERIA X1 General

On friday we can chat with SE about X1 on the swedish website, Mobil.
Follow the link:
http://www.mobil.se/ArticlePages/200810/07/20081007105841_MOB130/20081007105841_MOB130.dbp.asp
You can ask questions now.
(Sorry, but the chat is in swedish.)

For all of you non-swedish speaking people, you can ask your questions here in english and then I can translate it and ask them in swedish. If getting an answer I can then re-translate it back to english here.

is there really no thumbable on screen keyboard installed?

Everything I have seen so far indicates its just the basic WM keyboard! Which is an oversight as I only intend to use the slide out keyboard for long emails/sms.
Guess I will install touchpal pro when I get mine.
Russ

*clapping hands* good job SE! It's so simple and they didn't give it to us
more questions :
1. which version of SPB shell that can be downloaded for free? will it get any updates in the future?
2. is it true that we can only save 6 radio stations?
3. is there any unique software installed - like HTC's MP3 trimmer or Omnia's video editor? anything whatsoever?

X1 has a proper keyboard. Deal with it.

Can it playback videos in divx or xvid codec with a core player for example in full dvd-quality without converting it? Thats my biggest question. At rates about 1500-2000kbps? Fluid? I don't want to convert my movies. And I wanna see them all.. So, can you please question this? Thank you very, very much for this!!! Greez, cad^^

Why not asking if the final version will have the lateral screen orientation button as we can see in this image ?

The recent prototype doesn't have it, not even the symbol bellow the button as the old prototype has. SE disapoints day by day. If this comes true in final release of X1 and without accelerometer is a major disappointment for such a beautiful screen and device!

He did say you can set a shortcut key to switch orientation.

but which that extra button, i can assign other things to soft key.

I wouldn't mind setting that key the makes the panels turn to the flip through to the orientation change (if possible). I don't think i'd ever want to use anything but the full 9 on the screen.

My Kaiser has 5 buttons, plus soft keys to assign. Going to be hard to go to having none! Unless you can assign volume up/down which would give us 2 buttons. Maybe even camera button long press? Can someone who has their Xperia already (lucky dog!!) try this? I use my VoiceCommand button and Ok buttons constantly.

OK, we would have to loose other button which has other function, because none is free...
What's SE thinking by replacing a button for a hole in the device ? Does it look better this way ? Was it necessary ? That button should be very very expensive comparing to the others so they removed, it can be only that

REgarding the earlier question on SPB - its not the program - its a panel incarnation of SPB Mobile Shell (available for download now at SE's site). Your guess is as good as mine as to whether it'll be supported with updates. I'm picking that skins for SPB won't work in this panel version.

Please ask why accelerometer has not been included, and also why the dedicated button for screen rotation has also been removed.
What level of support, updates and upgrades can we expect for the X1?
What are SE's plans for Xperia line?
Will WM7 be supported in the future? Will X1 be upgradable to WM7 when available?

Will qwertz keyboard layout be coupled with english WM? Are there more qwertz keyboards (special characters) available to choose from?

NEW! TodayButton - quick today toggle

Guys - another quick hack.
Still in beta subject to your reports.
All it does is shows the today screen for as long as you hold down the button it is assigned to.
So, install the cab; assign it to a hardware button in the control panel.
Press and hold that button and today screen should pop up (you'll see a little icon in the top left). Let go, and you should go back to where you were. Theory being, say you're in a call but want to look at your Today quickly. Pop in, pop out.
If you want to stay in the Today screen, just click on the little icon in the top left.

The cab will install two versions, normal and TodayButtonOFF.
TodayButtonOFF will cause the PocketPC to switch itself immediately off when you've finished looking at the today screen. This is so that you can assign a hardware key and use it to switch on the PPC, look at today screen, and immediately switch off when you're finished.
This version is still slightly flaky, but try it and see if it works.
Please report how it goes.
Do not launch it directly by stylus click in programs menu. If you do, it'll go to the Today screen but you'll lose your hardware buttons for 45 seconds, at which point it will reset the buttons. You can launch it by the action button as normal (hold it down).
I'm not sure how this works with program redefiners like buttonmax etc. Please report!
Vijay
cab
anyone tried this yet?
V
First of all, its a great tool!!!
The bad side -
I'm using AE Button plus. This enables, single-double-triple clicks for each button (rather its configurable). When I have this running in the background, it doesnt work...otherwise, it works great.
Besides, I dont think i can ever live without AEBP, as i've pretty much mapped everything to something or the other!!
Fix this, and i'm sure i'd be using it, its extremely handy!!!
Also, great work....i'm using the VJDialer and VJSms, and its an amazing little app!!!!
Best,
San
dreamtheater39 - thanks for the tip and feedback
I didn't think it would work with AE Button - I used to use it but have stopped using it recently (I might be writing my own version :wink
I think this tool is useful, but I think most of us use something like ButtonMax or AEButton, so it's a shame it doesn't work right now - I'll work on it!
Have you tried the poweroff version? That's quite a useful tool - use it to switch on the PPC, look at Today, and switch off again.
V
I did try the TodayToggleOFF as well...
Its very useful especially when on a phone conversation to check my calendar!!
I managed to get it working fine now....here's what i do...
I've disabled manipulation of my camera button by AEBP. I dont have multiple clicks for the camera button, but i have ToggleToday assigned which I find really realllyyy useful!!!
Thanks again!!
San
Good idea - didn't think of that!
I think this is a tool that I will actually use - I'm doing a few hacks to make the today screen more useful, so having quick and easy access to it helps I think.
V
Vijay, this app sounds like a great idea. I always go back to my today screen on a call.
I'll give it a whirl and let you know.
Is this program still available?
It sound promising
I would also like to give it a try...
Xadaa: I've updated my webpage with this app.
Sorry for the slow updates, I've got no XDA devs access at work Nightmare!
V
I've got this mapped to the camera button on my wizard, and i love this little app. It's been working without any problems for about two weeks now.
Thanks a lot for this program
My single problem is thatMy pjone doest turn on when I press the hard button I have assigned to TodayButtonOFF. It goes off when I release it and works great while i am pressing it.
Great software
Thanks. I have it assigned to my PTT button on my Tilt. Works great!!
Heres the cab again if anyone wants to try it.

Bad phone dial performances

Hi, this is my first post here, so greetings to all.
Two days ago I've received my p3600, and I'm in general happy with all its features, but phone dial.
First, I feel that dialling is very slow. Using normal sound configuration, I notice a remarcable delay between my finger pulsation and the numeric button response. Curiosly, this delay is shorter when I change the dial pad sound configuration to "no sound", but this isn't a true solution, because I prefer to feel clearly that some button is pressed.
Someone knows how to improve this ?
Second, the dial buttons size is too small, at least for me. I want use the phone without the stylus, but using the finger, I must dial very carefully, so the dialling experience is frustrating.
I've took a look at some dial themes, but I'm no sure about if using a theme with bigger buttons can solve this, because I think that the tap area for each button is established by the software itslef, and using oversized buttons has no consecuence.
Any ideas on this ?
Thanks in advance.
1. have you turned off the smart dial feature? That slows the phone down considerably. If you have done that already... I think that's about as fast as it gets. Yeah I wish they would make dialing faster.. Too bad they couldn't make quick like the wm5 smartphone devices.
Thanks for the tip about no sound speedup.. going to try that for awhile.
2. Eten Dialer Skin.. big buttons.. yes the tap area is bigger.

Htc touch hd new way of answering calls

For the 70% of our readership who still care about this device, we have a small tidbit of news. In line with its new full-screen button-minimalist design, the HTC Touch HD eschews the usual phone answer and end call buttons (though vestigial versions still exist on the device) for a new on screen phone call answering system using two adjacent sliders.
The system is similar to the iPhone, but goes one further. To answer a phone call you slide to the left, to ignore it one simply slides to the right. The interface will be present on HTC’s other new Touch series devices too, like the HTC Touch Viva for example.

hum I tought this was already in the diamond and pro because the first version I used was a mixture of the opal images and the pro regs.
I feel this design is ergonomically incorrect for 90% of people. I am right handed, i usually pick up the phone with my right hand and thus would be easier for me to slide my thumb to the right to answer, left to ignore since i ignore very few calls. (See the slide to answer feature of S2U2) no?

Is if possible to make a qwerty as this for our Diamond?
I tried a qwerty for touch Cruise, but the resolution is incompatible....
The qwerty is very small (as single key of Diamond qwerty)
This QWERTY comes as factory on my Diamond...
I have the official HTC 1.93 ROM
When you are on the screen where you want to type, tap the arrow next to the keyboard icon then tap 'Phone Keypad'

no the key is more small, because there are option key in the right of phone pad.
In the crouse phone pad the option key are in the bottom, and the key is more big!

and wh you call this qwerty? Its exactly not a qwerty-input method...
Hmm... mine is white, not black like this... how come?
Have 1.93 rom, norwegian.
uhm that's a keyboard, and it's definately not in the qwerty latout :S

Second, if you look closely at the piture in post #1 and read the comment in post #9 carefully, you will notice that the threadstarter doesn't want the extra keys mentioned left out, but placed at the bottom row.
Third, I think this forum suffers from a too heavy amount of postings like yours and mine. In the future lets keep it constructive and friendly.
I think this thread is stupid (not necesserily the people involved) and should be locked. I don't see anything constructive coming out of it.

Wow that's great, thanks!
It doesn't fill the whole screen on WVGA, however. Can you fix this?
Two suggestions:
1) You could place the chords at the top like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n23WEqqrP0I AND/OR
2) You could place the frets under the strings so that we can directly play the right notes.
Suggestion 1) would be especcially useful for the Touch HD, which has only two hardware buttons but a a lot of free space on the screen for the chords. I'd also be happy to donate/pay for your app if you could make that possible.
Again, thanks for developing that great app for WM!

Installed to storage card and tested quickly and it is fun - One bug though - Don't let S2U2 initialize while guitar running as you won't be able to unlock device - mine did and I tried to slide to unlock and all it did was play guitar strings, couldn't unlock - Didn't soft reset to get it out - not sure how but somehow through a combination of buttons I was able shut screen off and on again and get start somehow as S2U2 flashed on and off - hit it quick and got it to home screen. I wasn't worried - soft reset wouldn't have been that big of a pain. Anyway - remember to disable S2U2 to avoid the hassle. Testing further as this is fun

Don't work for me
It don't play any sound, 'x' and 'reset'-button don't work, and pressing the same hardware-button a second time to set a chord isn't possible. Maybe it's my device.
