quick question re: upgrading locked phone. - Touch GSM General

I have the opportunity to purchase a Touch cheap. The reason he is selling it so cheap is because it is password locked and he can't remember the password.
So my question is can I still upgrade the ROM when it is password locked? (and will this remove the password restriction?)
Please reply ASAP as he is waiting for me to get back to him. Thanks.

Yes, you can. You just have to go into bootloader mode and flash the ROM..very simple.

perfect. Thanks.

I think that a "hard reset" resolve this too.
Or not??????

I have the phone now, how do I do a hard reset?

A hard reset should also get the job done:
"To do a hard reset hold the send and end keys (green and red hard buttons) and then poke the circle on the bottom with the stylus."

That worked. Thanks again.

Got it in this state just once. Have you tried removing the SIM, then hard-reset - then Wallaby. I think there is a major boot delay without the SIM present - it was a while ago that I had this problem - but I did get back from it!
Thanks for the replies Guys.
But I tried to make s hard reset with or without then SIM Card it also doesn't help.
It still can be charge but it won't switch on or go to bootloader mode.
Is there any key combination to get into bootloader mode or to do hard reset?
What is cold boot?
Cold Boot and Hard reset are the same thing.

I have tried to exit from the bootloader screen by removing the battery, press any button combination (even all the buttons in the same time), reset, hard reset, I tried to speack to it, each time I power on the phone it remain stuck in bootloader mode, with the 3 colors.
I have those informations on the screen :

I will be so happy to find the way to fix this problem!!
Thank you very much for your help!
Obviously, your set is bricked. If I were you, i would send it back to the supplier and get a replacement if it's still under warranty.
you're right, I will send it back today.

[Q] locked device, how to reboot/hard reset??

please help i just got a new t4242 in the box and the guy in the shop probably did something stupid by setting a lock code without of course recognising it... plz help what can i do?is there a combination of keys to press in order to make it work?
You can undo this indeed via hard reset:
1. Switch of device.
2. Hold VOLUME DOWN and press ENTER, next push on/off button.
Than you get a message on the screen:
"All data will be lost etc."
3. Push button VOLUME UP to execute hard reset. Or press any other key to stop.....
!!!
thnx mate!very handy... all working perfectly now!thnx again!
Glad to hear .....another phone saved from mobile graveyard....

So you can't get to the bootloader? (holding down vol down from a cold boot)?
Does it show the version information down in the bottom corner when starting?
I've tried many times but nothing happen.
No there is no info about rom/radio etc.
Have you got any ideas how can I get to bootloader?
Remove the SD Card and boot the phone.
Just to confirm you can't get into BootLoader mode - Press and hold the Volume Down button then tap the Power button. Don't let go of the Volume Down button until the Bootloader screen apears.
Thanks, I know how I can get into BootLoader mode but that doesn't work.
Any other ideas?
There is no other way to get into BootLoader mode.
Have you tried booting without the SD Card and checked that there is no bent battery pins?
It may be a faulty volume button or other hardware issue.
If it was a faulty ROM or RADIO then you would still be able to get into BootLoader.

next time, draw the pattern down before you confirm it.
I dont know if there is any other solution, but if you want to make a factory reset, then it doesn't need to go access the phone.
To do that, follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Maybe you should wait one day to see if anyone has another solution before reset to factory condition.

I doubt there's going to be an easy solution, that would defeat the purpose of security.
Vol-down and power button will boot you into bootloader mode, from there you can use the vol buttons to select recovery.
Hold vol-up and press power button, repeat until you see some text at the top of the screen. You should be able to select "factory reset".
Good luck!
