who ordered the G1 - G1 General

I have my htc G1 on order in black who ordered and in which color

Mine is on order also.... and it's black. Does anyone know if there is a web page for the android marketplace? I would love to see what kind of apps are already on there.
Also does anyone know how to unlock it yet? I am on t-mobile but I don't like the idea that my phone is locked to their network.

The CTO for T-Mobile US stated the other day that T-Mobile will continue their policy of providing unlock codes free of charge to customers in good standing, so at the worst, you'd have to wait 90 days for a free unlock code.

Sounds good... another reason to love T-Mobile over ATT (try getting an unlock code for an iPhone)
anyone know if there is some place to browse the android marketplace online?

Thanks! I searched for it yesterday and didn't find anything.
Anyone know if it will have GCC and libs so we can compile any linux app on it like mplayer or pidgin?

oredered it yesterday in black

Ordering in a few days was anyone able to order the white version of the phone or at least it looked white on all the vids could have been silver I guess.

tmobile only offering black and brown colors the white im thinkin was just an test phone

does the G1 have an accelerometer? i was watch a video the other day that showed it in google maps in some weird view and when he would move the phone around it would move around in google maps.

Yes the phone has a accelerometer built in. And I have a blck one on order:0

ah i think i might get me one now.
i was going for either the diamond or HD but now that i know this has an accelerometer, im super down for this cool [cheaper] phone

That's an ignorant statement, AT&T allows unlocking of every device except the iPhone. So, in more comparison, you should have said "Sounds good... Another reason to have T-Mobile over AT&T (Try getting an unlock code for a Fuze)" and in that case, you will be able to without issue. Furthermore, T-Mobile restricts you to 1 unlock code per 90 days, AT&T does not have that limit, or if they do, it's never been applied to me.

It has an accelerometer and a built in digital compass, which is what gives you the ability to turn like that in Google Maps. The compass is a neat feature, definitely not a make or break, just something to wow your friends with.

*holds up hand* Black.
I was on the fence for a while because the whole 1 gig cap is a big burn for me. (I use my dash as my "slow speed internet modem" for my desktop) But all good things must come to an end and I didn't SEE anything about the 1G cap on the Tmo site. (can anyone confirm/deny the existence of said DL limit??)
Also, I'm pretty sure that some sort of desktop synch will be hacked out sooner than later so.. I ordered.

Yes, it's on the pre-order site for the G1 I believe, at the bottom in fine print. I'll see if I can find it and get back to you. Here ya go:

The G1's data cap that Tmo had originally stated in their docs has been lifted, they rewrote the terms after backlash from the blogosphere. It has an accelerometer, A-GPS, and several other fun things. Here's a link to a post describing the tech specs in detail:
http://gizmodo.com/5053264/t+mobile-g1-full-details-of-the-htc-dream-android-phone
And the master Giz post for all sorts of info on this handset:

and just for reference, here's the post about them ditching the 1GB Cap:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/09/25/t-mobile-wisely-folds-ditches-1gb-htc-g1-data-cap/
And yes, I preordered an hour after the press conference, in black.

So where can these re-written terms be found?
Found the only info I could, so it's official, it's been lifted:
http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/007798.html
HOWEVER...
"We reserve the right to temporarily reduce data throughput for a small fraction of our customers who have excessive or disproportionate usage that interferes with our network performance or our ability to provide quality service to all of our customers..."
Well, that could mean "disproportionate usage" is more than 1GB, and they're just phrasing it differently so more people will buy in.

I think I got a system update...

I was in the middle of tweeting, when a pop up notification ask me to take part in a survey, so i said yes. The next message said a system update may be available and they wanted me to plug my phone to a PC. I'm about to do it but wanted to know if anybody else got this message aswell?
That's not an update, it's just sending information to Microsoft.

a couple of other HD2 owners reported updates too. Goto your settings after the update and let us know the software versions listed, to see what it updates. Thanks
Unless your handset has a completely different SOFTWARE VERSION and/or ROM VERSION afterwards... you didn't receive any sort of "update".
T-Mobile USA would publicly address a system update for the HTC HD2.
Trust me, I work for them... I would definitely know, considering my manager is the VP of Human Resources and Communications.

Well, our store in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area had 3 as of last night, but of course we sold all of 'em before we could get the FedEx guy outta' the store.
Our store also carries the most volume and moves the most in the state... so we typically come across more of the HTC HD2 handsets, but sell 'em the quickest.
All I can suggest is... keep trying. Persistence will eventually pay off.

Now I cant get it back, I've tried everything, its GONE. I went to a local Tmo store and show the lady, she told me "if thats an update, it'll be there, just go back to settings, and than updates" and I did, it was there still but that was before my phone died and I could update.
this has happen to me in several diferent devices.no updates were available to any of them .
I just got a call from a guy named Josh at HTC Quality Care Department. He called me back regarding there customer satification survey I did on there site a few days ago, I had left a comment letting them know the many of issues I was going through. He notice I had a couple of open tickets with HTC CSR Lindsay, so she passed me up to the Senior HTC Quality Care Dept. Josh said I will be getting a call on Monday regarding these issues because HTC is trying to figure out why the phone is having troubles and nobody has seem to help them out... except me he says. I laugh and said sure, Im willing to do whatever it takes to help you guys . He thank me and said look for a call from a senior advisor on Monday.
your gonna get a email or a call 3 weeks after. when i damage my touch pro 2 door i called them trying to buy a new one since the device was brand new on the market they said they will call me when they have the door for sale actually ebay beat them by 1.5 months
I just got one ofthese surveys or updates.....idk. I already had my HD2 plugged in a PC charging.

I have a beta test version of the nexus one, given out to employees only.

So heres the story. i called google because my power button wouldnt work.. they checked my IMEI and said it wasnt on their database.. so they transfered me to HTC. The rep told me that I have what they call a holiday nexus. there were only a 1000 made and given to google employees for testing. he told me that it had a different bootloader and that it was a collectors item. He said its value is significantly more than a normal nexus. I dont see a difference between this phone and a normal nexus one. nothing seems different other than the bootloader being unlocked from the start. Anyone care to share their thoughts and tell me what makes this phone any different?
It has S=OFF, so you can re-lock the bootloader with 'fastboot oem lock'
Also you should have an Android waving a QR code flag on the battery cover.
hmm yeah S is OFF but i dont have the Android waving a QR code flag on the back.. very weird. i wonder if the guy who sold it to me worked at google..

I have one of these phones too, QR back cover and all. I doubt I'd be able to get it fixed under warranty if I need to since it was a gift from Google, so I won't be needing to relock it anyway.
OMG!
I would kill for one of those! jajaja

Maybe you can switch phones with cyanogen and he can play around with the bootloader to see if he can find out how the relocking of the bootloader goes. Maybe he might find something and can release something so people can relock their bootloaders. Just a thought.
If memory serves, it's not so simple & the holiday bootloader is 250kb too big for a retail phone.

So there absolutely has to be a place where we can buy this cover
It's just a normal one
I also have a holiday nexus one with the QR code cover (btw this links to android.com/holidays but only on a Nexus One), which I rooted a few months ago. It seems to be completely normal before unlocking, with no superuser access and apparently a locked bootloader as well. The fastboot mode shows this text (after using fastboot oem unlock and Amon Ra recovery):
*** UNLOCKED ***
NEXUSONE PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.33.2012 (PB9910000)
MICROP-0a15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0102
RADIO-4.03.00.21_2
[date]
Is this the same as a normal Nexus?
No. You can relock your bootloader.
Since the only real purpose of relocking the bootloader would be to have the phone officially covered by warranty, why is this really even useful on the "holiday" nexus if that is not covered under warranty at all anyhow?
It seems the only advantage is the battery cover then, which doesn't seem like too big of a deal.

i got this phone off craigslist. traded my iphone 3g and 150 bucks for it. it was in perfect shape, didnt come with anything other than the phone. the guy i bought it off was very weird. he said like 5 words throughout the whole transaction. when i first got the phone, it did not have a rom installed on it. i could go into fastboot and a weird recovery. it had Hello World floating across the page when you rebooted into recovery. i just flashed the CM recovery put CM on it and its been working fine since.

Oh No I for one and are not putting up with that. I am going to submit a claim to regulatory board OFCOM & Trading Standards. I have already escalated this to T-Mobile as well.
May even look in to small claims court and exercise what you guys called the art of suing lol
I think we have a prime example how to cripple a smart phone here. People would be afraid of using the market to download apps. Use Youtube etc.
They are doing this across the board their current FPU states Android owners get a 3GB limit.
Wonders if the Iphone lot know yet as well because it affects them too.

Thank you for taking the time to post this article though it is something to DEF keep track of. Net-neutrality is a much bigger issue than people make it out to be and will be one of the hottest topic's of 2011 with the way more and more people getting smartphones and "straining" the networks.
I read the actual press release and could not believe the words that T-mobile used "If you want to download, stream and watch video clips, save that stuff for your home broadband." Seriously? Did they seriously just say that? Wow
Pretty aggressive language there T-mobile, I would never expect that from T-mobile U.S.A. whatsoever...

Don't you love their arrogance, because they are hooked up with Orange they think they are best network. UK do not have many wifi hotspots as other countries.
I am trying to leave them due to this breach of contract.
I got this back from them. It doesn't end here..
Good afternoon Mr M
Thank you for your email regarding the changes to our fair use policies for using the internet on your phone.
Whilst the fair use policy for accessing the internet on your phone is being reduced to 500MB a calendar month you will still get unlimited web browsing. This allows you to browse websites and check email as much as you want even if you exceed the fair use policy. The amount is then reset at the start of the next month.
The only time you would notice the change to the fair use policy is if you go over it; then you will not be able to download files or stream/watch video clips for the rest of the month. We do recommend that these activities are best done using your home broadband connection.
The change to our fair use policy does not mean you can get out of your contract. In line with your agreement we have to give you reasonable notice that your fair use policy is changing. The change is being made to enhance the overall service our customers get when accessing the internet as it allows all of our customers a fair opportunity to access the internet and a better online experience.
We remain the only operator who does not charge run on rates: if you go over your fair use amount you can still browse and email, plus we will not charge you any more. So you can continue to use the internet safe in the knowledge of how much you are paying each month. If you would like to use the internet for downloading a lot of data each month you can buy a booster to allow additional usage.
Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us Mr M. I trust you find this information useful.
Kind regards
A

I've been a T-Mobile UK customer for +10 yrs & this is just ridiculous.
Thankfully, they have now stated that existing customers will NOT be affected by the reduced data:
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=DATA_CHANGES
Actually, AT&T here is trying to do similar things. Instead they simply removed "unlimited" and pushed out $15 for every 200MB or $25 for 2GB and $10 for extra GB.
F that!

Agreed (not the 3D part... you will never get swapped up to a flagship phone) but then this is also where the "you had 30 days" comes into place. Not trying to be a bad guy, I work for retentions and I get thousands of "this phone sucks" 31 days or 45 days or 60 days after it was purchased. Just like you, we have rules we have to follow at the work place and policies in place so, no, it's not that we don't want to help, but you as the customer must also help yourself. A corporation like Sprint, TMo, AT&T and Verizon can not hold all of their customers hands. If you had issues, return the device, replace it, get another and let the company know that the phone is not working that way, by not purchasing that device - getting a device and "hoping" for a fix is not a good strategy and you're only setting yourself up for failure.

Got me there... that's past my level of tech support. As far as I understand, it shouldn't be editable.

Well the reason I mentioned the 3D is because it is the same price as the NS4G is/was on upgrade ($199). I figure they are basically just crediting what you paid, and most people would probably go to the 3D is they were gonna swap phones. If I paid $199 and the phone has a pretty glaring defect, I would want the amount I paid as a credit... that's all I meant.

Yeah I understand but unfortunately prices don't mean much honestly.
If there isn't an update to address this soon, as much as I love it, ill go back to the Evo til the photon comes.

What will AT&T do to the One?

Or other US carriers for that matter. I'm curious what other opinions are, especially since most of you are probably more informed than me.
Disable the FM radio?
Put non-removable AT&T software links, maybe on the home page.
Add some proprietary content to the Blink feed?
Paint their name on the front (a given).
Remove Google Maps in favor of AT&T Navigator?
I've had AT&T phones where free services like Where and Wikipedia were unable to be installed because there was a proprietary version pre-installed that required a monthly charge. The only phone I've seen that didn't have all the bloatware and locked apps was the iPhone. Or unlocked phones I bought from the manufacturer.
I haven't had a recent AT&T high end smartphone other than iPhones so I don't know if they still do their dirty deeds. If there are non-removable apps will a different launcher get rid of them?

I don't care what they do as long as they don't slap a F'ing logo of theirs on it. I don't want to rep AT&T. I wan't to rep HTC. It's just dumb. I like the addition of the HTC logo on the front, Id prefer it be HTC no AT&T. Don't want a logo on the back either. Of course Id rather them do nothing at all but thats the biggest thing to me. Im pretty sure every carrier in US has the FM radio disabled for it btw.

I think the logo's a done deal.
FM is disturbing though, maybe a custom ROM could reactivate it.

Its very possible but I'm hoping HTC stood up for themselves and requested that the physical aspect of the device go untouched.
How was the One X in this regard?

The AT&T logo was stamped on the front glass portion of the device. Not terribly annoying, but it still sort of took away from the looks of the phone.

I'll go look in the One X forum to see if there's any threads about this. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to spend an extra $350 for an unlocked one. Last time I had a phone loaded with AT&T crapware (and a disabled FM radio) it was a constant source of irritation. I assume with a device of the One's quality and price they could never get away with the stuff I saw, like disabling the GPS unless you activated Navigator for $10 a month. But I also expect they'll do something irritating.

Yeah, I use AT&T and I'm tempted to get the Developer Edition of the HTC One, even though the price makes me wince a bit.
I had seen a picture of AT&T's HTC One whenever their page first went up. If I remember correctly, there was only a small silver globe (no AT&T lettering) above the Beats logo. This was on the silver version though.

The picture was small, so zooming in didn't provide the greatest results. But it's clear that there's a small AT&T logo right above the Beats Audio branding. Honestly, that's probably the best and least noticeable place they could've put it. It definitely doesn't deter me at all from the getting the One on AT&T (considering I get it over the S4, which is a toss up at this point).

If that's how they did the logo then it won't bother me, but really the logo was the least of my concerns. I'm more wondering about the bloatware and non-removable apps, disabled FM radio and any other changes they might make to the stock phone.
Good on them for making the logo so tasteful.

I'm wondering if it will be possible to replace the software from the AT&T version with that of the international version. I mean, I know there will be stock roms, but didn't something like what I'm explaining happen with the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus? Anyway, are there really going to be any hardware differences between the AT&T and international One? Because if there won't be, this might be possible.

wow thats great, i was afraid that they would replace the htc logo between the physical buttons with their crappy att logo
and ATT will want their phones to not be on the list for bootloader unlocking.... like what happened to the One X
They would add diamonds to it. Also a portable toilet...and I heard Colbert report right next to you all the time
