GSM Problems - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi everyone !
I'm new here (in the Hermes forums). I have a prophet, but now I bought a Hermes.
The guy who originally owned (the phone is used) told me that when he flashed it, he had this problem that I'm going to tell you now, so I really don't know what could had happened to him during the flashing process.
The problem I have is that the Hermes works very well, the Wifi, bluetooth, card reader, everything EXCEPT the PHONE, let's say, the GSM interface.
When I turn it on, everything works well, (I DON'T SEE THE 'NO GSM' THING), and I have the antenna icon with the exclamation mark (!) next to it. When I go into there, in the phone configuration, if I try to select a network manually, after a few seconds it says that it can't retrieve the list of networks, that I have to try later. If I go to the band configuration, and I put it to use only gsm, for example, after a few seconds it says that it can't change the configuration, that I have to try later.
I tryed with different sims, of different companies.
When I bought the phone, it had a spanish Schap's 3.54b, and the Olipro 2.30 spl.
I tryed hard resetting, but nothing. I flashed the original shipped rom WM6.1 WWE, downloaded from here, and nothing. NOTE: I had to flash with the sd method because if I try to do it with the computer, I have the 260 error (or 262 i dont remember).
I changed the HARDSPL to theOlipro 2.10, hard reseted again, and still de same thing.
The IPL is 1.04.
NOTE: When I flashed the WWE rom, I flashed the .nbf file inside, but the SPL.nbf I didn't flashed.
What can I do? ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
I read a lot of things in the forums and in the wiki, but nothing. I've just finished downloading the Schaps WM6 4.31, now i will try to flash it with the sd thing.
Also, I have the protocol 32.80.7020.20H. I've read it somewhere but I don't remember what the protocol is. I HAVEN'T CHANGED THIS since I bought it, could that be my problem?
Currently, I have this (before flashing Schaps):
-Device Information:
ROM: 3.54.255.3
ROM DATE: 07/05/07
Radio Version: 1.47.00.10
Protocol: 32.80.7020.20H
ExtROM: 3.54.255.104
-In the bootloader:
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro

Maybe the antenna is no good...
1st thing I'd try though is to flash a new radio on (use sd card method). Worst that can happen is "No GSM" but as you can't use it anyway theres no harm in trying...
Check what radio rom you have 1st though so you can flash back if need be.
If you can get a "broken" Hermes (same model is best) then you can replace parts and see if that helps. I did this and found one of the parts that was causing a problem with my jasjam was the flywheel.
Do a search for the HTC service manual or go to Mike Channons web site to get heaps of manuals and tutorials...
Cheers...

The phone is near new, let's say, it was used for less than a month, he had it a week or two and then flashed it and had that problem, so I don't think that it's and antenna problem, and if it hadn't antenna, it has some signal of some kind.
Any other ideas?
I changed the radio when i Flashed the WWE version. I'm now downloading this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298520
Any suggestions? is there any problem using the AKU 3 or something?
Thanks =)

Hey,
What about the protocol version? can I change it? how? cause I flashed it and the radio changed but the protocol is the same.
I'll try to flash it with windows vista, to see if I can, because XP won't let my.. olnly SD flashing

Ok, I Installed a cingular flash, now I've protocol 32.67.7020.10H. Radio:1.34.00.10 and still having the same problem. I don't know what to do now... any suggestions? !
thanks
PD: also tryed putting a little piece of paper over the sim but it didn't changed anything
PD2: The error I get when I go to Phone Settings -> Netowrk, and I choose "Manual" is: "Unable to read setting from the netowrk. Try viewing settings later, or disconnect data connection and try again.

no signal / provider, tried everything

hey all,
I've been with the xda I from the very beginning and have always upgraded the roms to newer versions. However, a few months ago I was happy with my 2003 and didn't upgrade.
When TomTom stopped working I thought a nice new upgrade was in order and I cooked up a new rom and installed it. I played around with it, and I think (don't remember anymore) that I've touched the band tab.
Since then I have not been able to get a signal or find a network AT ALL. I have tried everything.
I couldn't install through the normal way anymore, so I resorted to SD-installing.
Spent days here with xda-tools, tried every rom version, even installed official radio stack again. Nothing helps. I have tried selecting the band at the wallaby menu. No go!!
I'm very afraid that I've messed it up.
I will boot into the OS, but no signal. With some roms it will give me the phone setup, with most it won't.
Right now I have the german t-mobile installed. It just says: no service.
Some (current) stats:
Wallaby bootloader 5.14
R 4.21.00
Protocol: 32S54
4.01.19 GER
Is my XDA I lost??
Some pointers would be great! I'm out of idea's.
Regards,
Ruurd
I've had this recently - the way around it is simple, assuming you know what band your network provider is on.
Go to the bootloader menu (soft reset and power button), and select the band on there. I had "no service" on Orange, until I selected "1800" on the menu that is, and hey presto, working phone!
I had tried that already, and it didn't work.
However, I just did it again (tried out all combinations) and yes, it did work!
pffeww!!
thnx

Radio seems to randomly go out without notification

hi all,
I apologize if this has been brought up before, but I clicked the "corrupted radio" link in the Beginner's thread, and it appears that the thread no longer exists
My Tytn has been acting up lately, it seems to me that the radio is randomly going out; except when the radio isn't working, I have no idea, because everything appears to be normal (the 3G icon is showing, and the Bars are there) until I try to make a call or text someone, then it will say "Operation Failed"
usually disabling and re-enabling the Phone option in the Comm Manager will temporarily fix the problem, but it's only a matter of time before the Radio goes down again.
I've tried flashing my phone with 3 different ROMs, with no luck. I get the same problem every time. So I am kinda worried that it's a hardware issue.
If anyone can provide some help on this matter, i'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
edit: just in case this helps, i'm currently using the ROM version 2.15.502.3
Not sure who your carrier is or your radio version? You may want to flash another radio version and / or a cooked rom. MAKE sure you have hardspl to do the above.
I am now using a shipped WM6 rom for AT&T, version 3.62.502.3
my radio version is 1.54.07.00
still having the same issue
what cooked rom would you recommend?
Hi, here is a recent thread asking that question...post #14 would be good wm6.0 roms (the wm6.1 are still buggy):

Progressive phone problems

Man, I didn't even plan to have alliteration, and there it is!
So, I have had my cingular 8525 for about a year right now, and in the last 2 weeks or so I have been getting some bad problems popping up. For some background, I bought the phone in Texas and was using it on the cingular network for some time when they switched to the AT&T network. I flashed VP3G's AT&T roms using hardSPL and they worked well for some time. Then, I came to Europe to do a semseter abroad. I unlocked my phone using some software I found here on the forums (don't remember exactly what it was) and got an 02 SIM card. Everything went fine, was working well until I went on holiday to Europe. I didn't really use my phone much there because it was so expensive, but as soon as I got back I started to have problems.
For about a week, my phone would just drop in and out of service in places that it had not had any trouble working in before. What would happen is, in the place where there is normally the bars for reception, there would simply be an exclamation point and any time I would try to make a call it would fail, sometimes with a message, sometimes without. Then a couple of seconds later, I would have full service again, then it would go to the exclamation point again, full service, etc. It just kept cycling through them.
So, I came to my trusty forums here to try and figure out what was wrong. I flashed a different radio (from 1.47.30.10 to 1.48.0.0) which didn't fix it. I tried downgrading my SPL from hardSPL to 1.04, then upgrading back to the most recent hardSPL v7, which didn't work. I tried putting a new OS on it, the 19900 build, which didn't work. I tried switching the radio back, which didn't work. Then I started noticing that when I was starting up my phone, I was getting a 'no GSM' dialog where it used to say the radio version. I searched around the forums, finding some different solutions for the no GSM problem, and decided to try completly reflashing to an AT&T shipped rom.
So, I downloaded the ROM from the HTC site, downgraded my SPL to 1.04 again, and started the flash process. At 11% it stopped and had an error, and after that it wouldn't leave bootloader mode. I again searched the forum and tried to use MTTY to fix it. The command 'set 14 0' didn't work but 'set 16 0' did.
Now, my phone boots again, but it starts up with the AT&T screen, then goes into the 19900 build OS. As it stands now, I still keep dropping in and out of service, but I am afraid to try any more fixes for fear that I will screw something up again (like locking it in bootloader mode). Any ideas of the next step I should take to fix my (probably) corrupt radio?
OS: PDAVIET build 19900
Radio: 1.47.30.10
IPL: 1.03 (from failed AT&T flash)
SPL: 1.11 (from failed AT&T flash)
Update: I just soft reset my phone, and now the 'phone' feature of it won't even turn on when I select it in the comm manager!
Update update: As I was writing this, the phone just turned itself back on without me trying to in the comm manager. Maybe its just possessed, and I should seek the help of a priest!
1). Have you tried taking out the battery for a while? It seems that the hard reset is somewhat different from the soft reset and can fix this...
2). Check for bad blocks with MTTY... Remember though that sometimes the carriers put in "Bad Block" to brand the phone as theirs...
3). Try flashing a stock rom then reflashing wm6.1. This seems to help a hell of a lot of people fix the HR problem.
Hope these help you.... Cheers.

Phone will not connect to network

Hello All,
I upgraded my EXEC to WM6 with the ROM of lucathebig. I did not upgrade the radio rom.
I don't know how it happened but, every time I switch it on, even without the sim card in, I can't access the phone settings! Or even the dialpad for that matter.
When I click on the signal icon, the balloon comes on but says "The phone is off"
When I tap settings nothing happens.
Please note that it was working a couple of days ago. I reset it to factory defaults but nothing happened.
Has anyone else got any suggestions? I will try to avoid flashing the ROM again and I'll keep it as the last option.
Update:
I noticed that there's no Radio version or IMEI on the system information on my phone so I figured that the radio got corrupted or something like that.
I tried to flash the Radio but i get the 114 error from the upgrade tool.
I tried all sorts of different upgrade tools with different radio version but none of it worked...
I am now downloading the official O2 update Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v113188.exe and try to install this instead to see if it fixes the Radio.
Has anyone found a solution for the 114 error? I have read tens of posts but can't seem to fins anything that helps. The people who solve it, use different versions of the update tools or they remove the USB hubs or try the upgrade 3 times.
Help ..?
I tried O2 update but the upgrade executable gave me a country ID error.
So I took the WM ROM and the Radio Rom from the zip file and tried to upgrade both but on the the WM ROM was updated. The Radio rom still gives me an error when I try to Flash...
Ohhhh this is so dissapointing.....

I need help! My signal on the HTC HD2 T-Mobile USA signal is not working?! It worked the first month just perfectly, but now it's not working. It's been like this for around 3 months now, and I really want it to work! And i've tried reseting, updating the ROM, changing SIM card and put in a totally new SIM card and it's not working! But when I tried my sisters SIM card and I got signal but It didn't work to call? And my mom's SIM card I didn't have any connection..? So please please help me.
Thanks for help, Rasmus
Seems like either the Radio ROM version is not good for your phone or youmesstup with settings. What ROM version and what Radio ROM version do you have?
Thanks for the replay! My ROM version is 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE
and my Radio Version is 2.10.50.26

Sound like you need to call T-Mobile and get it replaced.

While this isn't the Wizard forums, I can tell you this from my many moons of experience...you bricked your radio ROM. Goto the Wizard section and look on how to reflash the radio using SoftSPL.

Did you try going into your connections settings, manage existing settings, then going through the prompts? Sounds to me that you might have jacked something up there. I take it you can not make calls or anything? Like you have no phone connectivity?
Need some more information. First what band is the phone set to? First do a HARD RESET of the phone to get everything cleared out and set to the base settings. You should have a signal if the radio is working. What country are you in/network? Take out the SD card and see if it makes any difference.
What does the signal indicator show when the phone is on? When the phone was working did it drop calls. Did it "hunt" for a signal then find one then start hunting again? This indicates a failing radio - if this is the case the phone is never going work properly - it will only get worse and flashing a rom will not make it come back - its a chip on the motherboard and its bad.
You said you flashed a new rom - did you have any problems flashing? Did it complete? If it did without issues the radio is more than likely OK. Generally when a radio goes bad you can't flash past about 11% of completion.
From personal experience on my now sold TYTN - the radio started to go - was able to flash. Then it got really bad - no more flashing. Would freeze during the ROM update and hang up.

deea92, please go to the Wizard forums like ashasaur recommended before. You're only going to confuse users by posting here in the LEO forum.
