Does anyone know of a car mount for the raphael that lets the keyboard open while it is in the holder?
My Brodit holder for my Kaiser does this and it is great for TomTom when you want to type in an address or a postcode, I would rather not have to take the phone out of the holder to do this.

Brodit are doing a new one? The current ones on their site for the raphael do not allow the keyboard to open while in the holder.
On the plus side, at least they now do a 3-in-1 holder that splits out the USB and headphone sockets.
Bought one from ProClip USA. I believe it is manufactured by Brodit due to decals attached to many of their products I have bought.

Hmm, I was looking for one that offered the same functionality as the one I modded for my Kaiser.
With that one I just need to slide the phone in and it automatically connects to power and audio. Plus I can have the phone closed and slide the phone open while it is in the holder and swivel it between landscape and portrait.
Doesn't look like this is going to be possible, at least the new brodit active holder has a built in 3-in-1 dongle. It don't let you open the phone but I would rather automatic connection to power/audio than letting it open in the holder.
Either that or I will break out the polymorph and try and fabricate one myself.

I fail to see the difference between the passive holder and supplying your own cable, and this active holder... you still have to attach a cable every time you slide the device in!

Exactly! (Glad I'm not the only person thinking this!)
I'm waiting for a holder like a laptop docking station. Slide the Universal into the holder in landscape/laptop mode, with connectors at the back for audio (with the jack) and the USB/power connection. It's surely no coincidence that HTC made this machine with all the connectors in a row on one face and with the connections in parallel? (On the XDA2 the main connector is at a different angle to the headphone jack so one holder couldn't provide both interfaces in one fixed cradle.)
Also I am looking for a holder that doesn't mean I need to butcher my dashboard with screws to fix it in.
A new dash would probably cost me as much as the Universal if I bodged it.

These brodit holders don't need you to botch your dash...
You simply buy the proclip from Brodit which matches your car, and that attaches to your dashboard without drilling or screwing - they usually just involve you "spreading" the dash at a join and slipping it in. Works perfectly.

It's a nice theory but they seem to be designed to block air vents though, especially on my car. I've never understood why this is an acceptable solution. Seems like a bad idea to be blowing either ice-cold or roasting hot air straight at the back of a £400 nugget of ultra-sophisticated electrickery instead of at my face. Whether it buggers up the machine or not (and I'm guessing it doesn't cos nobody seems to complain) I don't want this solution! I want it mounted somewhere unobstructive, away from the car's functions! A sucker-mounted screen attachment is ideal. But I'm still waiting for one...

That depends entirely on your car...
Mine has at least 4 different locations for mounting, 2 of which do, indeed, foul the airvent - but I have my iPod mounted on one clipped down near my stereo, which is a perfect location.
The alternative is a bracket from Dashmount (www.dashmount.co.uk) as, IIRC, these don't block vents in a lot of cars.
Has anyone yet found somewhere that's selling these on behalf of Brodit yet?
When I got the XDA2(X) in 04 it was via www.handnav.co.uk, but I cannot see anywhere that's selling them at the moment.

I have had one of these brodit and proclip combinations for all my recent devices and i can tell you there is nothing better, perfect holders and easy installation with no screws or anything into the dash, they clip in and are solid as a rock 10\10 in my book

Handnav can get any Brodit Part once it's available to retail, another alternative is Nemesis the UK importer. http://www.nemesisgb.com/ Cr*p website but call them and they can' t be more helpful.

See this. Brodit even have a clip that will interface between that four pronged mount (known as the HR-Mount) and their cradles.
Decisions, decisions!!
In all honesty I'd love to have a good Brodit mount that sticks to the windscreen to show off the Exec in laptop mode to other drivers!! haha...though I've been weary of it losing suction and falling (in probably slow motion with me watching it) disasterously to the floor mid journey.
I'm keeping the arm of the existing car kit I had for the 2/2i but hoping to just rescrew in the Exec model.

I have Just ordered a powered Brodit Holder for my MDA PRO, it shall arrive on Monday. Costs: 53,55 Euro, this is for the Powered holder with sigarette plug.

There are a limited number of mounting solutions available for the Wizard, particularly for mounting with the keyboard open.
I have found a flexible solution from Brodit which works for me for use in the car and on my desk with the device keyboard open (a keyboard closed solution is also available for those who prefer it).
Below are the pictures and links for the components I used.
They comprise of
1: A Screen mount (although a dashboard grill mount is also available for individual makes of cars I chose the screen mount because I did not like the idea of the device being to close to the heater vents).
2: A Horizontal cradle (although they also do a Vertical one).
3. A pack of what they call 'Move Clips'.
The move clip pack comes with 3 parts - 2 Male and 1 female - as seen in the first picture and here http://www.dsldevelopments.com/moveclips.html
The male is attached to the back of the cradle, and one female is attached to the Screenmount.
When the screenmount is placed in the car, the cradle can now be attached and removed from it very quickly and easily.
The second female clip I have attached to a moveable block on my desk, so when I am not in the car I can mount the cradle on the block for desktop use. I could have just stuck the second clip to my desk, but chose to mount it on a block so I could move it about easily.
Althought they have a cradle option with USB car charger included (Active Mount), I chose the 'Passive' holder and use it with the charge/sync cable that came with the device as I don't have anywhere to connect a cigarette lighter charger in my office.

Both the screen mount and moveclip have very strong double sided tape already fitted which seems to adhere very well.
However if ever necessary the tape can be cleaned off with spirit and super glue could be used to attach the clip.

They do two, one that is the same mount shown above - it is made by Brodit, and a second which is a Dashboard mount and is shorter but does not have a flat mount plate from what I can see.

You can't go wrong with the brodit products. They are a little pricey but top quality. I have got the active swivel holder for the qtek s200 and it works very well indeed.
Just buy it you won't have any regrets.
Very impressed with mine also, a bit pricey but good quality and made for a neat installation.

You can use a 'Moveclip' This enables you to have x1 Proclip installed on your dash area, and fix the moveclip female part to the Proclip, and the x2 male parts to the back of 2 Brodit holders, meaning you can switch devices on your dashboard, be it JAMin or Tomtom, ipod etc.

No probs, glad to advise:
If you already have a cigg lighter charger for your device, then the passive holder is your cheapest option. Its easy to plug it into your JAMin (UK this is known as the Xda Neo) just plug into the bottom and slide it into the holder, job done!
The advantages of charging holders are:
It has the dock connector so just slide the device in and job done.
If you dont have a in car cigg charger, active holders are your best option,both for practicallity and cost.
Other than that, the 'hardwired' versions are a bit different, (also more expensive) as you can hide the cables,power a GPS BT device and have a more pro install look in your car.

My Hermes had a fight with the floor and came off worst; the screen is damaged, back is very scuffed, scratched camera lense, usb slot damaged. Was upgraded to latest HTC OS, ext & Radio ROM's. Fully boxed, instructions and CD-Rom included.
Oh, also includes in Brodit Proclip car holder and charger. The holder is two parts, one part Hermes specific and one part car specific. I'm including it all but the car part my be of little use as it was for a Lotus Elise.

I have an AT&T HTC FUZE, and this is the car mount I wish existed. If it does exist, can someone tell me where I can get it? If it doesn't exist, can anyone with the right connections recommend it? (*cough* Brodit?)
I would love an active car mount that mounts into the cigarette lighter. I've seen one universal cigarette lighter mount, but it doesn't actually function as a charger. I would also love it to have a 3.5 MM jack, so I can plug it into the AUX of my truck and listen to music as well.
Anyone think this will get made? Seems like a very logical design, so you don't have to mount it to a windshield, and it can be easily transferred to other vehicles.

On a side note, what's with there being no desktop cradles that give you a 3.5 MM jack? If you put the phone on a cradle, it's impossible to hook it up to speakers without it.

I dont see a huge market for it since many people like there phones at vent level (think nav), not near their knees.
I would like such a car cradle. It eliminates the unsightly wire to a distant lighter port. If the neck were long enough, it could extend to vent level. Somebody please make one for the Fuze!
Have you checked http://www.proclipusa.com/? They have several options for the Fuze. You then pair it with the vehicle mount designed for you vehicle. I have a Ford E-150 full size van and the vehicle mount for my vehicle puts my device at the perfect location. The vehicle mount snaps in place. They do not have a custom vehicle mounts for every vehicle, but if they do, it is normally in a good location.
Proclip USA carries them. They have several options available. Check the link in the post above.

EXACTLY LIKE THAT!!! Well, it's good to know the idea has been designed and sold for the Iphone, but unfortunately, they get all the accessories in the world to choose from, and the Fuze gets very few. Here's to hoping someone snatches up this idea for the Fuze.
FUZE Active Mount w/3.5mm out AND Open/Close Keyboard
I would like to add the capability to flip the phone horizontally and open the keybaord while not having to take the phone out of the mount. Does anyone think there could be such a thing? Can there be if not?
