GPS logging problems using Ozi or Tracky - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hello,
I have not been able to find anything about my problems in the search except for the GPSBot which I am currently trying.
I realized problems with simple GPS tracking with Ozi (Version2.19) and Tracky - both registered versions.
Actually I am not that sure anymore, how tracking with Ozi 2.19 has to be performed, because the new design is driving me crazy, but when I realize to do so, it continously stopps tracking without any information or actions from my side. Same with Tracky.
TT7 btw is working absolutely fine. No problems with lost signals or stopping the navigation.
I use Bepe 093.
Any other proposals for a good GPS-tracker (only) ? I would like to have my soaring logs saved somehow as GPX files for further use and to archive. Doesn't matter if Ozi, tracky, or whatever sw to get it.
Any ideas ?
thanks in advance
Best regards
Holger

I used a trial of GPS Tuner the other week which worked well, I tracked a hike up Great Gable in the Lake District, worked good. but I did loose GPS while it was in stand by once and after that I just kept checking it every 20 mins or so. Seemed ok after that. then Exported the track file straight into Google earth at home.
Lots of other usefull functions too, only thing I would say is that it is quite a comprehensive app and I ended up using 2 batteries, in 7 hours.
I am testing some other tracking programs at the moment which are just tracking only. so hopefully lighter on the battery. Reperion05 & WMMiniGPS not actually tracked a walk yet so no info on these yet.

Thanks M8
Thanks a lot for the hint. I will try these two, also.
I hope it works.
I found a feedback that WMMiniGPS on Diamond would not track altitude. For soaring of course thats mandatory information ...
As far as I have more experiments how these two work, I will give additional feedback.
Best regards
Holger

Your welcome bud, I hope you find something that works well for you, I will be looking into the altitude issue as when climing mountains it is also important. I really would like to use GPS Tuner again but think it may be too power hungary for the Diamond battery. I will know more when I have tested the other programs.
Try here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps.html
This is were I got the 2 free apps that I have yet to test.
Rich

So far no success
Hello,
I checked
Reperion05 - I cant get it to work
WMMiniGPS - seems to work without the height :-( ...
CHTi - not getting it saving in GPX or KML format, dont understand the SW
VisualGPSCE cant save GPX or KML
MapWelt (based on etk) - cant find diamond internal GPS
MapNav (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
TrekBuddy (Java) - does not look too bad, but no GPS found
Actually Tracky seems to work ok, with BotGPS, but its such an overkill and battery drain ....
A simple and small GPS tracker app would be great ... no fancy design, no maps, only GPS record setup (all X seconds or > xkmh, ...) GPS status, Start, Stop, and directory to save the GPX or KML files ....
I would do it myself if I could .... Is there a free Visual basic development environment for CE with an easy GPS interface ? then I would give it a try ...

Hi Holger,
I use NoniGPSPlot freeware on my Diamond. It works pretty well. To save power NoniGPSPlot provides the option to switch of the display (Options/Tools). If I also switch my phone to flight mode (phone off) the battery survives tracking for about 4h.
You find NoniGPSPlot here --> http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php

Navigation on foot

Hi people
A quick question regarding navigation software. I know Tomtom and Navigon are good for driving and for walking round towns and cities but is there any software for off-road walking ?
I love walking and climbing on the fells in the Lake District etc. and it would be handy to be able to fire up the GPS just to check that I am where I think I am
I use oziexplorer for geocaching, so it should be fine for your purpose.
I know that you can download maps for other parts of the world from their website, but I never have ... so I can't say how good they are.
That having been said there are utilities on the site to convert other map formats to be used by oziexplorer.
The site is http://www.oziexplorer.com/
I'm also using OziExplorer for now. Before I go walking / geocaching I scan a paper map and convert the map with the tools that you can get on that site.
If you are using a SirfStar III GPS make sure you turn off static navigation otherwise, if you are walking slower than 4km/h, your map won't update until you have walked about 50 meters.
memory map is my preference, uses OS maps of all kinds as well as allowing adding in your own if you set up the long/lat of a fixed point on it, although ive found it better just to get the electronic os version as the image is far superior, the ahard work is done for you and you can search via place names etc.
also the "3d" images and "fly throughs" make for fun evenings*
*(yes i am a mapping anorak )
Yep, memory map is superb
Always fun to download your recorded route back onto your PC and view it in 3D
GPS2Google
There´s a very nice tool called GPS2Google.
It just records your GPS- data, which you can upload to googleEarth later on.
Here you have 3D . way description.
Very geek an easy tool.
Its not fpr navigating, but you can use it while using your standard navigation-programm thru a virtual - comport-doubler.
Have a look here http://www.s-gps.com/
ciao
Jo
Try Tracky at www.trackthisout.com
I've been in talks with the author and he has now put in the British Grid co-ordinates and the OSGB36 Map datum which means you can use it with Ordnace Survey maps (a big plus in this country)
Tracks can be recorded, overlayed on a scanned in section map and analyzed later.
Great UI too. I am not affiliated
Thanks for the input everybody. I tried OziExplorer but had problems with memory (not got big storage installed so it ran out of memory). Tried Memory Map but found I had downloaded the OS version which doesnt allow you to calibrate your own maps ! Seems I must get a copy from the US site that doesnt have these restrictions.
Not tried Tracky yet, just about to download.
Thanks once again everyone, its nice to know there are people out there who get out of the car once in a while At least I have some idea of whats out there.

Freeware GPS utility

VIto FindMe lets you send your location via an encrypted SMS to a friend also using Vito FindMe and then allow them to input the co-ordinates into Google Maps to see where you (and they) are at that time.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-vito-findme.html
Downside is the fact that it appears to be currently working with "Pocket PC Phone Edition with built-in GPS receiver". May have to wait for the possible GPS unlock later this year to test it with our Moguls.
Just as info...
Hi, i've already post it on the gps unlock thread, but for someone who wish interesting free navigation soft... Get a look at
http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/index.php
If you like vito, try Vito smart navagtor, that combine all the Vito tools...
And may be Tracky will interest you.
Also Navizon and Reperion may be tryed.
In fact when i've got my P4000 the tech supp, was tolding me that the gps chip of my device was not locked-up, and that i should found and 3rd app that fit my device....(that techn was less knowing than me lol)
So i tried many app.
Gpspassion may also be an interesting forum for info about gps...
Wish will help you, to dicover the gps interesting worls.
P.S. in community that you're looking for (net tracking) you'll find tools like registring for you and your friends point of interest like: automatic speed radars cameras, speed limits( the soft will advise you of over-speed), many other geocatching funny tools.

http://www.navizon.com/phpbb2/index.php (Navizon is a peer-to-peer virtual gps using cell tower, with a reward program for the users that help creat the localisation net. Advantage get localisation in city or subway (like subway maps) were some other gps failled, but in regional area it"s really not the better one's 'cause it need cell towers)
yea but taht VITO FindMe doesnt work with 6800 tho
Does not work with 6800 yet !!
True... Mentioned it in my post. There might be a work around to get it to work though and considering the talent of the forum, I am sure someone will find a way.
FindMe generates position errors of up to 150 metres when I try it. i think it may be miscalulating the lat/long in decimal from the lat/long returned by the GPS. GPS is OK with all other GPS apps I have run on my Kaiser (v1615).
Apart from that it's a great app

Gps Logging

Hi all I am running TomTom 6 on my Spv M700, are there any add on programmes I can use to log a journey. If not I am thinking about buying a GpsBug that will show the route taken on Google Earth Maps.
Many Thanks
there are plenty of apps which do what you want!
try noni gps plot(freeware) or other commercial software like 'Run GPS', 'trackpal'....
they keep a track of variables like speed altitude plus lots more and can be imported to Google earth. just do a Google search for em
I use Miomap3.2 on my trinity and you can log your rounte onto any map you have, this helped me back track a taxi's route that he toke accross Bulgeria so i could get back in a hire car, Perfect! plus its alot smaller than TomTom, Give it a try sometime
You can try TrackMe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667). It does all you want (I think)
I use GPSplot ( http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php )
to track and export to google earth. The site indicates also how to create a google earth background..
i personally use Run GPS, its for training, exercise etc it even handles multiple google maps with zoom function as backgrounds for tracking! you enter your personal info and it calculates how many calories you used etc.. don't know how accurate that is tho!
Thanks for all the replies, I am trying to run a tracking/logging programme while I am running Tom Tom 6. I don't expect to see the log on TomTom but would like to access the route afterwards. The problem I am having is my Orange Spv M700 that has Gps internally will not allow any of the splitter progammes to split the Gps signal between two progarmmes.
i.e. allow Tomtom to run with track me. I can run track me but not have TomTom running at the same time.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Tx1oss
check this link out!
http://web.tiscali.it/macri/Event_Logger/
Thanks for the reply. Event Logger is not compatible with TomTom Nav 6. I have since managed to split my Gps port and I am trying some of the other programmes suggested.
Again many thanks to everyone.
Tx1oss
I suggest you to buy an external data-logger device, like Wintec WBT201.
You can adjust how to log, e.g. every second, all 5 meters and so on. And you trinity don´t have to be on all the time.
After your journey you can sell the wintec.

How exactly did you manage that?
I wanted a Gps logging programme/tool that i could use all the time not for a 1 off journey, I managed to split the port on my M700 by using Gps gate. Unfortunately I purchased a programme called Navio which logs journeys in Nmea format, using this and my tomtom at the same time slowed up my M700. I can use both at the same time using Gps gate but as I have explained everything runs very slow and tomtom locks up now & then.

Store/record tracks using GPS device

Guys and dolls,
i was wondering if there is an app that can record the track that i drove, walked of biked using GPS device in our Diamond. It should record location, time, date, routes, speed, etc. Something like the trackstick .
Being scared of the battery drain for this request, of course this should work without using the wellknown navigators like Igo en TT.
I use http://gpsed.com/ when I'm running. You can upload your track directly to the webpage and see where you've been on a satelite map. You can also choose to download the data to your computer.
There is an excellent tool developed by one of the members here. It's called GPS Cycle Computer, and you can find it in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
thnx, will try both suggestions!
I used TrackMe, another GREAT program (including server where you can draw you route on googlemaps)
Search for it on this board.

hi,
you can try these..
Turbo GPS http://www.turboirc.com/tgps/
My Motion http://users.bigpond.net.au/ian_pendlebury/mymad.htm
Noni Gpsplot http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
Compe GPS Pocket Land http://www.compegps.com/
Pathaway http://www.pathaway.com/PWWinMobile.htm
RunGPS is a really cool app for this. A friend of mine uses it and is really happy with it.
http://www.rungps.net/
You can upload your log files and even compete with others that can follow a route you uploaded or you can download a route from somebody and copmpete against him.
Or you can just follow the same route everytime and see if you improve your performance.
Its great, try it!
thanks for all the answers/links! I will try them out
some of them looks pretty good!
once again, thanks!
Do I have to pay anything for using the gps or downloading the maps with google maps with run.gps?
Rungps license is 25,95 euro. It has very good support. New versions every month. No problem if you switch to another phone. Tracks downloads etc. are free. I've been using the program for quit a long time and it has really great possibilities
I´ve got Run.gps now too but had not enugh time yet to test it.
(Is this grammar right? )
Thx for the Answer.
And I don´t know how to install maps. Maybe I should read the manual at first.
Try...

I use GPS cycle computer for the same purpose you are looking for. I love it, it's a really great app. Most similar apps I've tested where unnecessary huge. But of course, that depends much on personal taste and needs.
