HA! I really got a kick out of this! - Touch CDMA General

Just a useless thread, but I can't help but share !
So I'm sitting at my desk yesterday at work, with my Touch just sitting out in the open, and along comes a fellow sales rep. He picks up the phone, looks at, and says, "HA! I heard this phone sucks!" I wanted to tell him to f*** off, but we joke around a lot, so I really wasn't pissed. But, I did get a kick out of it. Whoever owns this phone and thinks it sucks, probably shouldn't own this phone, and has no clue of what it can do!

i love the phone i just wish the screen was bigger!

Let me guess, he uses a i****?

mac envy
For those of us who started with DOS and then came this cool mac thing with drop and drag we understand this ibrick envy. thank god for competition because without it windows users would still be typing in **** like C: and not getting a smiley face emoticon. This phone is great (i would say HTC is great). its funny to see the i**** showing how to download 3rd party software as a "new" thing when this phone had that long time ago. now if verizon could get off their tech hiding, lets milk this one out mode...

I too get really tired of reading how badly this phone sucks - mainly on other forums and it's a shame cuz I think this is definetly my favorite phone in a LONG time. Windows Mobile has always been great for me but the past year and a half learning on this forum has helped me and many of my buddies "pimp" lol the crap out of our phones, seriously I am not jealous one bit of an iPOS. Even the ladies think it's bad too... You have all these guys out there that think they know what's up because they downloaded an app on their iPhones and its sooo cool then I pop open my Touch and own em all with all the crap this phone can do.
That's the problem now, though.. now the iTools going to be experts cuz of the "App Store" and will be all over you trying to impress you cuz they can "install appzz on thier iPhones!" OMFG WOW LOLZ!!!!! Shoot me now.

When I first got this phone it did suck.
The stock rom was balls. It was clunky, slow, and half the time incomming calls would not come through due to the phone staying in sleep mode.
Pocket IE is also terrible. It leaves a bad experience after using it for a while.
I can understand why people would give this phone a bad review.
After flashing a custom rom and adding a few 3rd party apps like opera 9.5 this phone is great.

Yea I agree...
When I first heard about this phone coming out I was really excited to see it in action, but when I tried it out at the Sprint store I was highly disappointed and basically opted for a Motorola Q over this phone. The Q was a nice phone while it lasted, but it only lasted me for a little over a year. I started getting excited when I heard the Instinct was coming out and got the "new cell phone itch" all over again. I then heard so many bad reviews of the Instinct and didn't want to switch off my plan (SERO). So I looked into this phone again and found out how crazily you can mod it (thanks to Youtube videos mainly). In my opinion this phone blows both the iPhone and the Instinct wayyyy out of the water. Now i'm wishing I could buy the Diamond when it comes out...but I'm in no rush to get rid of this phone any time soon.

I find that most people dont even know that Verizon sells this phone, besides, this thing is a Chick magnet, especially with my Whee Skin, Haha!

the only thing the diamond has on the vogue is a better camera, wifi and 64mb more ram, same processor same screen size 2.8" i would stick with the vogue oh and 2 more hardware keys

In 2 months it will be a year since the thread was created. Crazy how time flies....

I for my part still love my htc touch.
always get SO amused when an colleague, Iphone user, starts ranting about, ultimately, how better his phone is, and i go:
oh yeah, this Iphone is sooo awesome, but you know, it was too expensive at the time for what i was willing to spend for a cell, 600$ is... welll... a laptop, right? plus...you know, i couldnt resist 10$ a month for unlimited internet, and 10$ a month for unlimited emails & messenger... and theres the GPS chip... yeah it has a gps chip.. not the triangulation antenna thingy...did i mention 20$ unlimited... yeah.... but the Iphone rocks tho ! yeah... oh yah i get to install a lots of free apps too...ya know...
...kills me everytime...
(no seriously, to each his own, it's all good, but i'm keeping my htc touch for a while more, heck, till it catches on fire ! )

am keeping mine until i get my diamond2 on sprint..... contract ends in december... hopefully by then....
or if i like the touchpro2 ... MAYBE.. i dont like physical keyboards much

still fun
finally got my phone where i like it and it kinda bums me out cuz i dont wanna do any major mods to further trick it (and have to deal with the bugs). the vzw store only had two phones that came close to the touch even a year later. the only thing missing on the touch is g accelerator at this point. for the size and function i still love this phone too.

Lmao! Wow I forgot about this thread! Though I feel ashamed now cause I have an iPhone.

hahah ew.... iphone :S

great phone
iphone is nice ui but it is the only ui you get.The iphone is exactly like every other iphone. It is ok if you want to be a drone like everybody else, and want everything done for u, but if you want to alter your phone to the infinite level, in every category then this phone rocks. It is a little dated now but still has new custom roms coming out all the time. New programs and ui's being ported to it. This phone will be around a long time. I have unlimited internet for seven bucks, my email is free and sent to me via shaw's server just like on my pc. Free gps, I use orb to stream my analog and digital channels to my phone free with almost no buffering on a high speed network. I can listen to almost any radio station in the world free. Weather delivered , up to date...free
navigation....free. rss feeds, bluetooth, camera, windows office, opera , silent tethering to pc or handheld, google maps,mp3 player. There is so much you can do with this phone. It is a great introductory level phone for learning basics and beyond.i pay 37 dollars a month for my plan and i have a buddy who pays 120 a month for his iphone on a good month. i will stick with this one until i can afford a Leo or whitestone.

i luv the phone. when i first got it, i thought i would be bigger. I just wish it had more ram and a g senor.

i love the vogue but i hate winmo with a passion. sad to say but im ditching the vogue in a few months for the pre or hero.

Calling out all you iPhone haters!

Seriously - I've read some of the most ignorant, bigoted, and asinine comments around here about the iPhone. Everyone seems to despise it. Please, explain to me why?
Is it left over hatred from PC vs. Mac? Do you not realize this is a different industry? Do you not realize that all your Mac vs. PC opinion were formed 15 years ago and that things have changed since then?
Or is it something else? You just feel uncomfortable having another big player in the market? Another $600 phone that people can buy. Do you feel uncomfortable that the "smartphone" (definitions aside) market is expanding to include people who wouldn't traditionally be interested in such devices? Are you threatened now that everyone will compare your HTC to an iPhone? Are you pissed off because deep down you know you have a second rate device now?
I mean I really want to know. People on the forum seem to know nothing about the iPhone and yet hate it vehemently. People here know less about it than my grandma, which is amazing considering you're all hardware geeks.
So can we just lay off the player hatin'? The iPhone is what it is. It's a foundation device that is turning the industry upside-down - and in a good way no matter which side your on. They're the first company to design a mobile device from the ground up with usability in mind. That has got to count for something.
Have you tried Safari on the iPhone? I can tell you this now - it blows EVERY mobile browser I've ever used out of the water - and I've tried them all. Have you tried the keyboard? I think with practice I could be just as fast as on my 8525, if not faster. Have you played with the camera or the map? It's smooth, people ... and unless you've tried it you don't know what you're talking about.
You can hate on the iPhone because it's bubbly and shiny and a threat to your geekdom. But give it a little credit - it really is a futuristic device with futuristic features (yea, I admit it's missing some basic stuff - but come on, it's 1st gen). It's the first mass-appeal phone to hit the market running a *nix core. In a few years all your windows mobile devices will look exactly the same and you'll praise how genius Microsoft is for designing such a good phone.
Admit it, without Apple the next version of Windows Mobile would be another use-your-stylus-for-everything interface hell. I think now that we have the iPhone WM7 is going to be anything but less user friendly.
Um, okay. You're still gay.
I agree
iPhone...............Muhahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!
If "I" had $600.00 and I wanted something "like" an iPod & something Like a phone........ I'd do the following....
1. Buy an Apple 80 Gig iPod(10 times the storage of the iPhone). I can do pictures, movies, etc....etc...etc....
2. Buy a Good Windows Mobile Phone that I can process documents, send MMS messages, manage my contacts etc "WITHOUT" having to plug into that pain in the rear "iTUNES"....................
3. In case you haven't quite figured it out.......while Apple was "Re-inventing" the "Mobile Phone".......they were also conjuring up very solid ways to seperate you, from your hard earned GOLD........ Example you ask......ok, most other phones you can swap the sim card in other countries and use their networks to SAVE YOUR GOLD......... with this piece of Sh## you have to "ROAM" on AT&T's very expensive "International Calling or Roaming Plans...... If you haven't heard of "Skype" you may want to "GOOGLE" it..... you can make VoIP calls for FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR................... less than paying those Humungous International Roaming Rates.......
So continue enjoying that new fangeled what you ma call it.......and keep paying the corporate PIMPS who've produced a very clever way to disguise how to "Pick your Pocket" all the while they're F'ing YOU!!!!!!!!! And I'm sure they love THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
iPhone you Say?????
I'd RATHER NOT........................................
Just my 2 Cents,
vpu2....OUT!!!!
It's a technological abortion.
Everything the iPhone can do, we have been doing for years, and better.
But the Sheeple are buying up the over-price under-powered piece of crap.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I don't hate the iPhone, I only know that it doesn't have things I would miss. If there was a Safari for Windows mobile I would install and use it. But to buy an iPhone only for Safari I had to be silly. I need other things, such as eTcl, Skype, Viewers for office documents, GPS and I want to replace the SIM card whenever I want.

i dunno why i hate it..... oh yeh, coz its ****e.,
I don't hate it, I think it will give msoft a well-deserved kick in the rear. However, I'm not buying one because:
I'm in the UK so couldn't even if I wanted to
It does'nt do 3G/HSDPA
It doesn't do Exchange
It doesn't read books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't use more than one SIM card
I can't use an extra battery if travelling
Now, to me these are not 'in depth geek' type things. These are all things I do several times a day and which I have been used to do for years, even from my old Nokia 6610
I consider these very basic things, which 'normal' people need/want to do.
If the Iphone did all these and had an open system where people could design software for it, then I would be saving up my pennies for it now, but so far, it doesn't, so my pennies will be going towards a Kaiser.
At the moment it would be like investing in a huge beautiful state of the art flat screen tv, and then finding out that it could not be connected to satellite or cable. Gorgeous, beautiful, but not very useful.
Simple fact is the iPhone is a bad phone with an iPod grafted into it. I was using Touchscreen ages ago with my Sony P900.......also i was playing MP3s with UnrealPlayer.
ALLOVER the news here (UK) they are saying the phone functions leave alot to be desired and the camera sucks.
Fair enough the camera on the Hermes also sucks but im willing to bet it matches the iPhones effort.
No 3G is stupid, No mms or wifi is also stupid since the ICs available to do ALL these features wouldnt be difficult to implement.
Bottom line is the fashion victims will LOVE the iPhone and lap it up...but all i will hear for months after is how good the new iPhone is...while im nicely playing Quake on the train....watching XviD rips of my DVDs on Coreplayer and downloading stuff at 1.8mbps over HSDPA.
The people who buy iPhone will not like no 3G or MMS.
other then that fact it doesnt do 3g, which that alone would steer me away, other then the fact it doesnt do MMS, i want to love it..but i went to the apple store and tried to text with it..if you send more then 5 text messages a day, you will end up returning your iphone...trust me.
With all the things, listed above (and many where else) that iPhone cannot do, I'm wondering why there are still geeks obsess about it. I know why normal people get obsess about it, as what Prada phone did, I just dont understand, geeks are at a higher level and should understand what iPhone can do and cannot do. We get tons of threat here, just because 'MY PHONE CANNOT USE MP3 AS RINGTONE'. And this iphone, can't even use their iTune (yes, the same company) song as ringtone.. and no one complain about it?!
Anyway, I must admit that, having iPhone is a good thing as it will push things ahead, giving the M$ monopolized market a push. However, iPhone, as with their iPods, are not the best device (yes, there are other better MP3 players than iPod, and NO, Apple is not the first one with MP3 players, just incase you don't know).
are you seriously saying that the camera is good? look man, i used this piece of crap before...the camera images look good on the device, but when uploaded to the computer, they look like ****...you cant take video with the camera, you cant recieve or send mms, pop accounts dont work properly on it, you can only send 1 image in e-mail at a time...there are barely any features on it, ill tell you right now, a clock is not a ****in feature, so why the hell is it on the main menu!? to fill up the ****in huge screen?(might i add, the screen is very lovely)...
nonsensical.

Your post is the most ignorant, bigoted, and asinine comments around here about the iPhone. Do you seriously think that the iPhone and Hermes can be compared side by side?
Since you are raving about Safari... Would you buy a $600 product just coz of Safari? Will you be able to surf fast enough without 3G, HSDPA and WiFi?
This is ridiculous. I suggest you get some fire retardant suit.
uhhm
Im sure your kicking yourself in the but for even thinking of opening this thread hey Mr iPhone?
What can the iphone do that our phone can't?? Plus some of the feature are outdated. as if they iphone should of came out almost a year ago. Now apple is saying they are making a 3g phone. It's a typical company tring to nickel and dime everyone. They start the new phone our with crappy tech thats been out for years. Now they are already talking about a 3g when they should of done that from the start. Our phone can doo soo much more than the iphone. yuo can only play songs, browse the internet and take pictures. You can't load any 3rd party apps or anything. they are also releasing a 4gb and 8gb micro sd card. So you paid 600 for 8gb and we will probably pay maybe 100 for a microsd of 8gb. I think the iphone is overly priced.
Hehehe... funny stuff.
Bottom line - none of us are the target audience. They don't care if we like it - hell, they don't WANT us to like it.
700,000 sold in the first weekend. (Mostly the more expensive model.)
So, let's see....
700,000 x $575 = $402,500,000 in revenue
Average cost to make <$300 so...
700,000 X $275 = $192,500,000 in profit
Estimated buyers MOVING to AT&T from another network = 50% (from analyst, not from AT&T) so...
350,000 new subscribers with 2 year commitment at average of $80 per month = $28,000,000 in NEW revenue per month or $336,000,000 annually.
This is all first weekend... Yeah, they suck.
Beta v. VHS, blah blah blah... the best technology is not always the best product as judged by the marketplace.
Only a foaming at the mouth Apple fanboi could start such a thread.
Bigoted about the iPhone? REALLY? Did you REALLY just post that?
Do you even know what bigoted means? You do know it is just a phone, don't you?
Lets start:
No 3G, No MMS, no third party application access, no memory expansion (how can it be the "best ipod ever" if it only holds 8Gb?, no full bluetooth, no self settable ringtones, no cut/paste, no document editing, no file browser, no saving of images from the browser, no printing of images over bluetooth, no sending of images over wifi, no wireless sync, no exhange push email, no blackberry connectivity option, lies about battery life, cripped device till activated, locked into one operator with a 2 year plan.
Need more?
Yes, it is a sexy phone. It looks nice. And that is where it ends.
And FWIW, I have 4 of the damn things here, all from buddies who purchased one and have asked me to ebay them for them. I played with one for a whole 5 minutes and was bored with it. The damn thing doesn't even have a real RSS reader.
So, it does boobtube. Big deal.
I'm sure they will sell millions of them, but this forum is full of smarter people who demand more from their device.

Given the lines I saw on TV I'd assume it could suck your ****, mow your lawn and make you a nice hot breakfast.
Did you see the Apple staff cheering and clapping when the customers came in?
That isn't a retail store, it's a damn cult.
now this is a phone
CHECKS THIS OUT http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/like-the-...ice-261388.php
My buddy bought an iPhone. He's a fashion sissy. He's had an 8125 and 8525 in the past. He says the iPhone is only superior in its display quality, and that some things really suck on it:
You can't transfer files to/from it using another phone - this makes you have to buy Apple or AT&T's ringtones, and download MP3's from iTunes.
You can't use your songs as ringtones. WTF?
Those were all I heard before I laughed so hard he couldn't talk anymore.

I Smashed my TITAN to pieces...it felt great too.

So a year ago when I bought this phone I apparently paid $500 to be a beta tester of an underperforming, premature, lackluster phone. I've lost alot of time behind this phone's malfunctions. yeah it's cool that I can tweak it and write software for it, but if everything locks the phone up whats the point.
well it froze for the 1 millionth and last time this morning. I witnessed "The Flight of the Mogul", and it was freakin awesome.
I'm over cell phones, I'd go back to smoke signals if i didn't run the risk of arson.
i think we all feel your pain. I'm just biding my time until i can afford a replacement. Likely ill wait the one more year or so till my contract is up and go to an iphone lol.
I would have gladly taken that sucker off your hands.
Good, glad to hear it you smashed your mogul. Meanwhile while yours lays in pieces mine is giving me the power playing movies flawlessly in skyfire, giving me perfect voice guided navigation from IGO 8, the piece of mind of the newest windows live speakable search, fast email and texting with a full qwerty keyboard, the power to retrieve files off my desktop at home, perfect access to my IM accounts, and new home screens whenever I grow tired of one. And you know the one thing I haven't worried about since DCD 3.x.x is ram. Everything runs smoothly and transitions like men in your mom's bedroom. Trash the mogul in some other forum, because for the majority of us it works perfectly. Compare it now to the problems the diamond has. I think you'll agree it has far less at this point. I will do fine on carrying me into the next generation. Nothing except the touch hd is really worth getting excited about right now and it is having trouble making it to the US. Why don't you just go get a blackberry storm? It is easier to use for you.

I'm happy for you. I admit that the only thing I haven't done is flash to a custom ROM, believe it or not I downloaded the latest DCD this weekend but never got around to it. I think the moral to the story is that the ability to customize a device with unofficial ROM's should not be the saving grace of an otherwise poor performing device. I believe that it should be an extra, cool thing to do for geek cred, not because the phone sucks otherwise. what's so hard about optimizing the phone for its hardware before release.
I've been riding it out for a long time, thru all the updates and ports of apps from other HTC's. So i think I'll just wait until the Raphael is improved upon, atleast it has a reasonable amount of memory.

I feel you. a friend of mine has it, and it's nice, but i can't roll with Verizon, plus i dont want to be apart of the crackberry scene, and i dont want to sell my soul to Apple, so I'll probably stick with WM, At the end of the day, m$ has the most mature API. i been drinkin their koolaid for my entire career.
but in the meantime I guess I'll resort to some good 'ol fashioned yodeling.
If you have had this much trouble than no matter how you look at it, the only reason you've had so much trouble is user error. If you don't know how to properly install and cook apps and roms, then get the f out of the kitchen homie. The mogul is for people who understand devices and computers or for those who want to learn. If you are looking for a cool devices that has not even a quarter of the programing capabilities than buy a storm or iphone. They are pretty. Or buy the diamond or the touch pro and be in the same boat. The mogul is old now and it still is running with the big boys and now more than ever doing it reliably. You have a problem with installing custom roms. Its called sdk my friends. Windows did the bare minimum to release the platform and then put it in the developers hands. Developers like dcd that have more talent in their little finger than most the people at microsoft or blackberry or apple. Wait for the standard blackberry and apple updates then as they are behind from the moment they are released. And mark my words, if you have trouble with the mogul you will have trouble with any htc device. They all have their ups and downs though the touch and the mogul's downs are pretty close to having them all worked out.

ok Sweety Puss.
i don't take it personal. but yes i did smash my phone. lol.
I feel for you.
Just today I opened up the Media Player, went to the music library, and noticed one of my albums was in there TWICE. I couldn't believe it. I had to do an 'update library' just to get rid of it. I thought about throwing it under a truck. The horror of it all.
I'll bet by this Friday, I'll have even have to do a soft reset again. I already did one LAST WEEK. Uncalled for.
Flaming POS.
What's funny is that the 6800 seems to have the least appeal to two sets of users. IMO there are four broad categories of users:
1. Casuals
2. Intermediates
3. advanced
4. Pushers
Casuals are people like my mom. You know them. They want a phone but don't know the first thing about how to do anything with them. Believe it or not, the 6800 is just fine for them. You can use the standard WM 6 interface right out of the box and it serves as a very nice pcoket computer and cell phone. You see, casual users don't need a bunch of fancy tricks and special apps. They are happy to simply get a cell phone, camera, qwerty key board, and push email and pim. Nevertheless, casual users are apt to enjoy the neat interface of the iphone or storm.
Intermediates are very likely not to enjoy the 6800. Why? Because they know just enough to be dangerous. Just enough to flash a ROM improperly or load up their phone with a hundred apps and then complain when their phone becomes unstable. They get frustrated and do things like throw their phones in the air when they have no one but themselves to blame.
Advanced users, I think, like the 6800 because of its work-horse reputation, functionality, and its modability. Advanced users know how to keep their phones trim and fit and in good shape so that it doesn't crash all the time. They know how to mange their ROM and use the phone with as great efficiency as possible.
Pushers like to push the boundaries of the phone world. They are not happy unless they have the latest and greatest of everything. Latest features....latest hardware....latest software. Pushers will hate the 6800, just as they will, frankly, end up hating anything that was released more than 3 months ago. Why? Because vy then the next latest and greatest gadget is released and, by God, they have to have it!
I LOVE my 6800. It does almost everything I could ask of it. The only thing it really lacks, IMO, is a g-sensor, and so far other than the cute use as a bubble level for handyman work, all of the g-sensor stuff seems to fit in the amusing pout pointless category.
People are constantly amazed at what my 6800 can do. I have had iphone users, even after the app store opened, literally downtrodden after everything they showed me they could do I could do and then I went on and did about a dozen things they could not do.
I have complete voice navigation and gps. I have finger friendly and flick friendly apps up the ying-yang. I get the full web experience and can view streaming videos and flash and you tube on the net.
I have voice activation. I have weather. I have swappable memory (try that iphone freaks) and have every single song and most of my movie library on my phone. I recently took a 12 hour flight by myself in a jet that had a power outlet at every seat and I needed nothing with me but my phone to keep me not only out of boredom but actually entertained.
My 6800 is my office...anywhere I go. I can access my desktop at work remotely. I can not only view but create and edit Word and Excel docs. Need a quick deal memo during an important business meeting at lunch? I can take notes with my stylus BY HAND, then type them up into a Word Doc deal memo and email it to an office to have it printed. I can then run some figures in Pocket Excel to project the proceeds from the deal. All in the restaurant over lunch.
And I have yet to see ANY software keyboard come close to the hardware keyboard of the 6800. The iphone keyboard sucks. So does the diamond and the storm. They all suck...by definition. My hardware keyboard is large, usable with my big thumbs, and doesn't take up an inch of screen real estate. Can you say that of the iphone? The storm? The Touch?
I fully understand the RAM issue, but holy crud...just how many toys do you need running at the same time on your phone? I do plenty on the 6800 and I don't mind the RAM. Yeah, I suppose it could load in 2 seconds instead of 4. But who except a PUSHER would care?
Devin
Nicely put Devin! I don't think I love my Mogul quite as much as you, but it will do till significantly better hardware comes my way.
Some people take this hobby a bit to seriously. others, apparently need anger management counseling. in the end, it's just another PPC. an I bet the OP is just eating all this attention up. reminds me of my over spoiled girlfriends kids. wannna just whack em with a newspaper! heh. Lighten up people.
I wanted to rip into him some more but now I feel on his level so I am editing this post to save myself. Thank you devinc. Meanwhile, sin-cal if you want to be a father figure join the Dr. Phil forum and let us nerdy types continue with our verbal jousting, cool with you?
sweeny, your post is amusing. father figure, let the nerds squabble amongst themselves. What sort of apps are you looking for?
The Apple App Store has many thousands of choices but for every good one there are probably 2 or 3 bad ones.
The long established WinMo app sites like PocketGear and Handango have pretty much anything you could need, but lack the easy download/installation that the MS and Apple App stores offer.

I havent! Had the original nano and good though it was i sold it. I cant stand itunes!!! What was ever wrong with drag and drop and a proper file explorer?
"Do you want to sync your music library?" NOOO!!! I want to manage it myself. Stop telling me what to do!
just for that reason i bough me an iriver instead of ipod
I have a few friends who have the iphone. I quite like the iphone and what it has to offer.
I bought a HD2 though so you know where my preference is but the iphone is ok. I enjoy all technology.
To answer your question would I kill them (my friends that is). No.
WB
JUST PUT FpseCE 0.10 WITH WIPEOUT 2097 OR FFIX and show him
i'll have to to try fpsece looked a lol one app i was a little jealous of was the Nazi zombie game I was shown today, i'll be checking out handango Ive been using freewarepocketpc.net which is not bad at all.bit complicated but i'll give it a go
Makes me wonder why those apps are not finally put into the MS Store...does not matter to us - but for casual users - they will not want to search for aforementioned websites.
Another issue is the price. I am not willing to pay $20-$30 for PPC apps. The iPhone app store is mostly 99c. And what WM is missing are those LITTLE apps - restaurant finder, train schedule etc. They are so simple, yet not available. I mean on the iphone they are basically nothing more than simple webservices hidden in an app. I mean they query some website, which saves you going to the website and just opens an app. I think it would be great if we had more of that kind. If MS put more effort into filling the app store i think prices would go down, too, as more people would buy the apps, there would be no need to keep a high price to make decent profit.
HD apps
I choose the HD2 over the iphone because HD2 gives you much greater control over your phone and what you can do and install on it. The iphone is a good phone but overall the HD2 is much better. When it comes to applications there are more than enough for the HD2 and not gimmick apps
The HD2 can trash the iPhone until maybe v4 comes out so make the most of it.
Screen size, clarity, stronger gps chip and reception, stronger radio reception. Better sound quality. WM has a very decent app collection, add mobihand to the list.
I still love the iPhone though. Its clamped down but just works.

HD2: an unnatural Love

So, I am not sure this belongs here, but...
Prior to my purchasing the HD2 I had a V3 Motorola Razr...yeah, big leap.
I carried a Dell Axim with me for everything else and was waiting on just the right phone. Pounced when I saw press for the HD2 months before US release.
I had never been a texter, twitterer, etc. I only ever used a phone for telephonic communication.
So, Monday we had plans to go to the Children's Discovery Museum with my six-year old son and my 4.5 month old son (yea-we are very sleep deprived these days).
We get there and it is closed. In our state of barely awake these days we kind of forgot that a lot of things are closed on Mondays. So my wife gets the idea to go to another Children's museum farther out, but realizes that we left the Garmin at home and gets pissed off. She also cannot remember the name of it.
Out comes my knight in shining armor...my HD2.
So I pull up Bing and say, "Children's Museum CT." Up pops the name and phone number. I call and they are closed. Then we think of the Maritime Aquarium. I say, "Norwalk Aquarium." Up comes the number and address. I call and they are open. Then I have Bing direct us to the place (as the wife whines that we do not have directions). We get there no problem.
Once there I am snapping off great photos left and right of my babes and zapping them up to Facebook at 3G speeds. I take a phone call and handle a work email as I am now synched with exchange (I know...shouldn't have on a family outing, but I am wired that way). I also emailed Netgear from one of my personal accounts about a problem with an RMA I am having with my ReadyNAS duo. I even played a rousing game of "Yacht II" in the museum bathroom...private stall.
I pull up Bing again after our trip and find a restaurant on the way home and look at their online menu to make sure they have food my son likes.
On the way home I text my Father regarding our plans on July 4th.
Clean it all up with my Task Manager and CleanRAM.
I sat back at this point fully satisfied with my techno purchase that has taken so much heat (and even a little flack from my wife) and I turn to her and say:
"Honey, if this thing could blow me, I swear I would divorce you and marry it."
I love my HD2
Thanks, Cam, for giving me a chuckle this morning. I'm so sick of reading how bad the phone is from those people that don't know how to use it. Great read!

Now, I'm sure we can find ways to make that happen, be it aided visualization or .....
Glad I could bring a little joy
All true too!
I even omitted some stuff like a multiplayer game of UNO and reading an eBook later in the evening.
I swear I love this thing.
Think HTC might use my tag line as a slogo? (HAH!)
Aw man...Classic! That has been the story of my life almost everytime we go on a trip!
Awesome story. My bro in law is still trying to flaunt his IP4G and I laugh as I destroy him doing everything. Nothing like the HD2 as my Wife has one also and has her head stuck in it leaving me plenty of me time! This phone is fabulous and I am so happy you use it properly!
yeah, coming from sprint's 3g, this thing is flying. On sprint I would get 500-700kbps. on t-mobile I am getting 2000-4000 kbps. Before, I would download podcasts at 50-70 kbps, now I get 300+kbps. Just downloaded the new eminem album in 4min.
Sorry Sprint, you were reliable, and I even have 4g in my area, but I wasn't jumping ship from Winmo to Android. And San Antonio is next on the list for the HSPA+ so it can only get better.
Only problem I have had with my HD2 so far is freezeups when I try to close file explorer and it is on the memory card. Lesson learned.
The Dell X51v was a bad ass lil machine. Saw they were selling now for $50 on ebay. I was actually thinking of picking one up just to play with and try a lil cookin.

Heres some iphone fun you can do at work. Launch your Youtube app and show everyone a badd ass HD video on youtube. Then have all your ATT 3g friends watch the same video on the iCrap. It will come out all crappy and low resolution. Then in front of everyone say damn your 3G is slow. Then turn on your wifi router and tell them to connect to your phone and watch the youtube video again. Then all the sudden theirs is in HD too. It makes ATT and iphone look like complete crap. I had 3 iphones watchign hd youtube on my inferior HD2 one night. The reason why this happens is iphone and att made thier app to only show low resolution video while on 3G, but full resolution on wifi. So when they connecto to your wifi it fools the iphone into thinking its local and runs in HD.
That was some story man. You know I have the exact same feeling that you so eloquently or should I say uniquely described to your wife. Just today I was looking at the HD2 lying on my microfiber cloth (I never leave it on a bare suface) and was thinking about how darn thin it is and just how much it can do. So many people complain about the HD2's size... I just don't get it. I am completely dumbfounded by the number of people giving away their HD2s for reasons people like us can't even being to comprehend. Sometime's I hate it when I think that this phone doesn't get all the appreciation that it deserves, but then I also realise that in a weird way it's good that this isn't as wide spread as the iPhone. It makes it more special to know that we belong to a select group that is more technologically evolved.
We've all come such a long way with our phones and PDA's. I was thinking about the long journey i've had with tech gizmos and how much things have changed and just how awesome they are now.
My HD2 does everything! This is what I used to dream of 10 years ago, hoping and wishing that some day i'd be able to do all this stuff on one device.
Wish came true. Just can't wait to see what HTC will bring us going ahead.
I honestly wouldn't mind an even bigger screen and hope to god that they include a trackball with the next one. A good replacement for the D-Pad that we all miss while continuing to look great.

+1...my exact thoughts on all of that. Well put, man

Finally jumped from Evo, now reconsidering the move

YES this is a pointless rant unless you're someone thinking about going from the mighty Evo to tiny iPhone:
I loved the Evo when I got it on launch day. Screen issues x 3 and sluggish UI, had me looking at other options. After weeks of waiting, I got my iPhone 4G in the mail today and I'm sitting here with it turned on, right beside my Evo that's about to go back to The Shack.
I really don't know what all the talk is about across the web. Sure the iPhone screen is very sharp and looks great, but side by side with the Evo, to my good 29yr old eyes, I can not see any meaningful difference from about 10 inches away. Going to get my SLR and lighting equipment out and take some really nice side by side shots unlike all the Apple loving blogs do. The Evo looks much better in terms of the entire face of the devices. And I really don't think I'm going to be able to get used to this tiny little iphone screen. The Evo makes this iPhone look like a toy and this is after all the hoops I had to go through to get my hands on this thing today.
The iphone apps do look very nice; IMDB on the iPhone is much nicer than on my Evo and just like everyone claims, facebook for the iPhone is miles ahead so it seems in my limited testing. Then we have iTunes which is hated by so many but let me tell you that in a matter of 2min, I was able to sync ALL of my Outlook data to the new iPhone via iTunes with no problems or extra apps needed.
I was wrong! The Evo is one bad*** device and looks like a real mans phone where as the the iPhone is so cute and tiny......What was I thinking; I jumped through hoops to get Sprint to take back my Evo and allow me to end my contract 4 days late and att put me through a mess and half to get my order done and sent overnight after a week long 28 call mess with them (at least they gave me a $100.00 credit for my troubles).
I'm 6'1 and I have mid-large sized hands and the Evo is just right, where as the iPhone is so little and too narrow. I can see it now, I'm going to end up returning the iPhone and getting a new Evo (hope it has a good screen) or a Samsung Galaxy. I'm new to ATT and my first call was from my mom calling me from her land line, while I was sitting in my home office and sure enough the call was dropped right after I picked the phone from my desktop.
I really want to like the iPhone because the apps and some other features such as all the very nice accessories out there, are great and the battery life is nothing to look down on so I'm told. And I don't know the OS well enough yet but we'll see. I do know though that the lack of a back button on the device means that many apps have back buttons wasting space within the apps and then some app screens don't have a back button and so you have to click the home button and go home (but then again I guess the iphone has multitasking which I haven't tried yet). Also having just one button, seems like such a waste where as the Evo not only has 4 but they can do more than one function. I wonder if I'm the only person who doesn't like the iPhones one button that feels and looks like a button that is broken as in smashed in.
What in the world have I signed up for?!?!?! The iPhone is slick but the dang screen is way too small for these Evo and HD2 4.3" spoiled eyes. One last thing in my rant here; all the talk about the Evo being sluggish compared to the iPhone. Well that's not always the case. I've tested a few things and each and every time, the Evo can pull up the main settings screen, faster than the iPhone and it does the same with a few other screens I've tried.
I guess I'll take the iPhone for a 30 day ride and by then the Samsung Galaxy on all 4 should be out and new Evo's with better glue? should be out for me to come back to the land of Android..........
Yeah the iPhone screen is super sharp and sure you can see it from more angles BUT it's a phone! It's NOT a TV! Why on earth would anyone care about being able to view a phone screen from wide angles?!?!?!?! Even the Evo and it's big screen is still best for one person viewing at a time. If I want to share, I'll email contant to my friends phone or let them each hold my phone one after another. Just had to add that because of all the iPhone viewing angle hype out there. Which brings me to another little point: If you read about the Evo vs iPhone 4G on almost all of the big blogs, you'll notice that they claim that the Evo and the iPhone cost the same on a 2-year contract but that the iPhone comes with 32GB of memory where as the Evo only comes with an 8GB card and that you have to pay extra for a 32GB card. What they don't state is the fact that I paid 200 for the Evo and 300 for that 32GB iPhone. Now I'm pretty sure a 32GB card for the Evo can be had for less than a 100. Okay enough of my rant! Time to go to Radio Shack........

I guess he didn't. First post on here and I was wondering if I should hold on to my Evo, lol. I've got a little light shining from under the bottom lip of the phone and while it does annoy me slightly, I'm gonna keep this baby.
I saw an iPhone 4 on my island (St Thomas) and it looked pretty great, but man, I enjoy tinkering, watching video, and music on my Evo. I also love how there are a good bit of free apps to do all sorts of stuff (and the pay ones are pretty darn cheap).
My wish-list is that there are more quality games (not Emulated) built specifically for touch and that getting good battery life didn't require either doing voodoo or running a custom ROM on the Evo. Oh, and that Froyo is pushed out to us -- officially -- soon. As for build quality, well, the device is already on the market so I hope the next one will be more solid at launch.
I hear what your saying. I have the 3gs and I bought the evo as my first android phone. The evo is just so much fun to tinker with. As I came to my thirty days I kept trying to decide what to do. At least android is in the iPhones league where as a year ago it was always iPhone hands down. Its actually nice that we have a tough choice.
I ended up keeping both phones like an idiot LOL. But knowing that I don't have to make a choice of which to keep I'm almost always playing with my evo.
I never really play or tinker with my iPhone. Its jaail broken but that's not even enough to keep thins interesting.
Sure the iPhone is nice software wise but I really want to be on the ground floor when android surpasses that iphone because it will.
Google has more resources than apple and apple is way too controlling.
Some ui improvements and some love from devs and this platform will be amazing.

Same here! I had a Hero before my EVO and thought the screen size was fine, except for the portrait keyboard. When I got my EVO I gave the hero to my mom. Now it drives me crazy how little that screen is whenever I have to help her with anything on it.
I don't think that I could ever go back to anything smaller than my EVO.
Haha, that makes 3 of us. I never gave the size of my hero much thought but to use my girlfriends hero now is comical. I can't believe how small the screen is and I never noticed how very recessed the screen is.
I was actually thinking the other day how spoiled I am with this phone already. U don't think phones could get much, if any, bigger practically but I think it would be hard to go back to a smaller device after this.
AshMa - everyone gets snarky from time to time. It's all done in good jest. Don't take it personally. I get snarky at times too. But it's only worth getting "cyber" angry over it
I am lucky enough to have different brands of phones given to me from my various clients. It's always a constant upgrade for me if I want it. The EVO is a better than some tech blog sites give it credit for. If we sat down and nit picked every phone we would find something. It just so happens the EVO got a lot more attention since many people wanted to make it a duel between IPHONE and EVO. The IPHONE suffers from some build quality issues internally as well as a flew blemishes eternally. No one company makes a perfect phone but APPLE has consistently made a better phone hardware wise through each variation. HTC can create a solid design like the Legend in regards to unique and art like. If that phone came with a 4" or a 4.3" screen I would not be on the EVO board. Well maybe
What makes Android great is its community. You will find that out more and more over time. The DEV's are not one or two groups who claim to be the best but a motley crew of Devs just wanting to release some cool ROM's.
The phone has been out just over a month and the amount of work the DEV's have put into it so far is nothing short of astonishing. It's only the beginning.
The glue has been upgraded so i think its a good time to get back in. Stay a little longer and enjoy the ride.
Seriously, get rid of the iPhone. Once you use a big boy phone, there is no way that locked down toy will be satisfying. The only thing the iPhone has going for it is aesthetics, and even that is lacking. It's basically a big launcher and that's it.
Anyhow...when I see someone using an iPhone I usually say "wow, people still use those", much like the RAZR.
I hear you, I think the evo is actually the best size for me. Even anything slightly larger like the dell streak or droid x is a deal breaker. Hope newer phones follow this form factor.
I was on the fence about returning my Evo.
I feel absolutely insulted by HTC, and the thought of them getting even a cent of my money infuriates me. I wanted to vote with my wallet, really I did. The 30fps cap topped the list by a longshot...but there was a list. I will never buy another HTC device again, sadly. Hopefully I'll pick the right device in the future. By 'right device' I mean the device that garners so much community support so furiously and so rapidly. Every generation of every type of electronic device there is 'that device' that gets a rabid cult following. This time around it's the Evo.
...That's a tough call to make, too, since the Android world is full of MANY hard-core followings. We're stuck with these things for a year...two for some. It'll happen.
But after I saw that massive support, the all-star dev community, the absolutely tremendous user/tinkerer community...and HUGE amount of IMMEDIATE action on the part of the developers....and the constant attention they give...
I mean, We've got Amon-Ra, JoeyKrim, Bugless Pete, Toastcfh, Flipz, to name but a few.... We've got all-stars from The Moment, Droid, Hero, etc etc etc....
There was no way I'd take this phone back. No effin' way.
I'm 31 years old...I grew up a nerd...started with phreaking, random hacking, programming, hardware hacking, video games, BBS's, the usual 'nerd stuff' for guys my age....I owned my own computer business....worked at a fortune 500....left the computer business. Computers just became boring. Found a new industry...
...But I really got into this smartphone thing, and I was wondering why. It's cuz this is the new (or soon to be newest) "BIG EFFING THING" in 'information', it's your PC in your pocket--for most uses.
That's exciting. This community is exciting, this phone is a blast.... 4.3" screen, 16:9, 1ghz in my pocket and a huge hacker community around it.
Iphone is a toy. You'll be back.

2 gb data 24.99
85 x 24 = 2040 + 200 = 2240 Total 2 year cost.
So you pay less total for the evo, and get more for your money.
To get similar talk time on AT&T it will, cost you 70 for unlimited calling, + 25 for the 2gb data and 20 for the texting x 24 = 2960 Total 2 year cost
Almost $800 saved over 2 years AND all the data I want to use? Yes Please.

first off that comment was a huge FAIL!!!
for the others that actually read it.. it was actually a really good read!
Dude...you gotta be way more concise in your posts...talk about rambiling.
IPhone4 looks so much smaller than 3GS...not so really.
Thanks Guys!
I read every post on this thread and I just want to say thanks guys for taking the time to read my post which was written very quickly as I was in a hurry to get out the door but I wanted to make sure I said something, just in case I didn’t get around to it later. And nope no offense taken by the first reply I was actually kind of laughing as I had posted and a min later there was that response. Just glad that I’m not hated here by all, for trying out an iPhone.

YES!!! You’re right! Nearly 24hrs with the iPhone and I can already tell that this is a device that can and will get boring rather quickly, as far as the OS goes. I can already tell that it would be only the apps that keep the iPhone interesting. I’m trying to tinker with the iPhone but it keeps rejecting me around nearly every corner. Hahaha! And I too want to be on the ground floor. I want to invest; my time (learning an OS and how to tweak it), and my cash in the platform I believe I will be using in years to come. Sure I have an eye on Windows Phone 7, but MS has screwed up by taking way too long. I’m tired of reading about what WP7 is gonna do when others are doing things right now.

Don't worry about him. Spork is a decent enough guy but he's the king of snarky comments
I'm glad you came to your senses. Why people love iCrap so much is completely beyond me.
Two coworkers came in today with their new i4's... I cannot describe how happy I was to be the guy with the EVO

Oh no worries at all! I was kind of laughing at the Spork comment because it was a min right after I posted. I too liked being the Evo guy in the room. In my area we have 1000% more than our share of brainless people and it sure does look like they all have iPhones.....

If I get another Evo I am counting on this! The screen raising was my biggest and only problem that I couldn't live with.

I hear you, I think the evo is actually the best size for me. Even anything slightly larger like the dell streak or droid x is a deal breaker. Hope newer phones follow this form factor.

Even though at first (doesn't bother me any longer) I really wished the Evo was just a little thinner; I now love the Evo size AND design so much! I can put the Evo in my pants front pocket or even my shirt pocket. The size of the Evo just feels right to me and my hands. I have skinny fingers but I believe they are pretty long and I can hold the device with one hand and reach my thumb over the screen and connect with middle finger.
I read about people saying that the Evo and other devices like the HD2 are way too big. I have to wonder if these are teenage children who may be small with smaller hands. If I were 15 again, I might think the Evo was too big and the iPhone to be just the right size. Like I said, the Evo is a man’s phone (or a woman’s phone). Now having said all that, I think the Dell Streak looks too big. But it’s just a little bigger in than the Evo. So that made me realize that in the same way I think the Dell is a little too much, a lot of iPhone users (most likely children or adults with smaller build and hands), look at the Evo next to the iPhone pics and think just the same as I do about the Dell next to the Evo pics.

I really hope HTC will not only fix the small issues but also continue with an Evo II and III. The name Evo has the it factor and I would love to see it live on. As far as the 30fps, that was a downer but my Evo felt smooth to me and even though I tried the game NOVA, I couldn't get it to work but for me my smartphone is a business and lifestyle managment tool above all else and so it was performing in those regards just fine.

I agree with your math but I was just reffering to the up front cost of the phones and how it so very much seems like the tech blogs are out to use any angle they can to make the iPhone look better or at least as good in every department even when it's just not true. The up front cost of the phone (something that a lot of buyers consider to be important) is not the same for an Evo vs. 32GB iPhone even though these Apple loving blogs make it out to be. I've even read some blogs that lead people to believe that the Evo only has 1GB of storage memory, compared to the iPhone and its 32GB.

Not sure what you’re referring to? If you’re talking about me, did I accidently type 3GS rather than SGS (Samsung Galaxy S)?
I thought about leaving the evo too after the third defective phone, maybe annother android device but NEVER NEVER let me remeat NEVER for a proprietary software using device such as the iphone. Just my $0.02

Missing the Evo already even though its sitting right here. I like a lot of things about the iPhone but I can feel the walls closing in around me. I want to try and load non app store apps but it doesn't seem like jailbreaking the iPhone 4G is out yet.......This really is starting to feel like the Evo is a car which can drive any way you'd like and the iPhone is a train on tracks.......
