[APP][WWE][Updated: Aug 26 2008] POCKET VIDEO POKER - Public Beta v0.4 - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

I wanted to give back to the community, so...
Proudly announcing Pocket Video Poker for the Diamond! With styling inspired by TF3D, and revamped from the original one I wrote for my Tytn, Pocket Video Poker gives you all the thrill of the casino, without the agony of losing your cash! So charge up that 900 mAh battery, grab your favorite beverage, kick back in your comfy chair, and have fun!
I offer my apologies in advance for the game that will soon consume what little bit of free time you have left. I am not responsible for loss of work, loss of appetite, loss of marriage, etc.
Updated to 0.4 Aug 26, 2008 -- See the next post for instructions and version history.

.

Installation
(Requires .Net CF 3.5)
Install the attached CAB file on your Jewel.
Instructions
If you have played video poker in a casino, this should be very familiar to you. This game is based on the "Jacks or Better" variety of video poker. I have no plans to add other varieties at the moment, so please don't ask.
Tap a column in the Payouts Chart to change your bet. The payout for Jacks Or Better is equal to the bet (you break even), so the 1st column bets 1 credit, the 5th column bets 5 credits, etc. For obvious reasons, you cannot change your bet in the middle of a hand.
Tap Deal, tap the cards you want to hold (tap again to toggle), then tap Draw to replace the remaining cards.
If you end up with a winning hand, you can try to double-up your win by tapping Double. Five new cards will be dealt. The first card is the dealer's card, and is face-up. Tap one of the face-down cards to try to beat the dealer's card. If you win, you can try to double-up again. If you lose, you get nothing.
Tap Exit to, ummm, exit.
Tap Options to access player management and game options. In the Players tab you can select the current player, view hand statistics, add more credits, rename players, and delete (reset) players. Adding credits will bring a player back up to 100 credits, and can only be done when a player drops below 100 credits.
Planned Future Features
Clean up sounds to remove hiss
Automatically hold cards that make a hand on the initial deal
Tap the Win amount to skip count-up of credits (this would be useful if you ever hit a 4000 credit win)
Make it more clear whether you are starting a new hand or drawing on a hand. You can tell because the button toggles between Deal/Draw, but I still want to make it more obvious.
Test on other devices, resolutions, WinMo versions, etc. It is currently only known to work on the Diamond with WM 6.1
Reduce memory footprint
Known Issues
One person has reported an occasional crash, but I have not seen this nor been able to reproduce it. Please let me know if you can provide any additional information.

Yes, but you lose all the stats that will later be displayed in the options, so the rest of us poor people here will never get to see how you made 1600.

See first post about the options.
Can you give more detail about not being able to hold cards? Seriously, I've been playing this game for weeks and have never seen an issue with that. Are you sure the hand wasn't already over?

sry after SR works fine dont know why but im lucky

OK, I took some time during lunch to package it up in a CAB, so it'll be even easier to install now. Apologies to the 90+ people that did it the hard way.
I'll have some time this weekend to tie up some of the loose ends (*cough* OPTIONS *cough*) ... so I'd really like to hear what other suggestions you guys have!
Thanks for playing, and don't let your boss see.

Hmmmm... no ideas??? Guess that means you're all subject to my whims.

Hi everyone! A new version is now in the first post. Here are the changes:
0.3 [2008-08-17]
Made the cards cleaner and nicer
Enabled Options button
Added ability to select players, add more credits, and view hand statistics
It looks like there are about 150 of you playing with it, so I'm curious what you all think. Please let me know!

Hi, so I will let you know what I think. First of all, I love this game!!!
It runs great on my D, had only one crash till now.
But I wonder if I'm the only one who wants the order of the four mainbuttons (Exit, Opt., Double and Deal in reverse Order) ???
I mean, I'm right-hander, like, I think, the most of us and it would be much more comfortable for my thumb to have the deal- and doublebutton on the left side.
Just try it! (but maybe I'm really the only one with that desire...)
Another thing is that I miss only the one option to mute the gamesound...
Anyway, many many thanks for that game and I hope you will maybe change the buttonorder someday.
ps: my broken english could be better, but I think everyone knows what I meant.

That's a good idea! I'll add it to the planned features list. The placement of the Deal/Double buttons comes from where they are on the real casino game, but you make a good point that on a device, they might not be in the most comfortable place.

UPDATED!!! iPhone-like Music Player: Lumen. [alpha]

PLEASE READ THIS!!
Hi.. just to announce, that I'm making serious efforts to make the iPhone-like musicplaying capability on a Windows Mobile device, I show you now what I have been cooking for a while now..
This is only a proof of concept thing. It won't play any music now. It just shows the possibilities.
I was quite busy in the summer-time, so I had no or little time to develop, but it's going to change.
Anyway, a few things you should know:
- only 240*320 portrait mode (for now)
- .Net Compact Framework is required.
- it's filled with some random data.
- there is a syncing software on the desktop-side, which transfers a playlist from iTunes (not included in this release)
- without cleartype enabled, it's ugly.
- again, it won't play music now!
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU SOFTRESET YOUR DEVICE AFTER INSTALLING.
FAQ
-----------------------
Q: Will it have a coverflow-ish cool feature?
A: Yes, there will be.
Q: Will it support landscape mode only screens?
A: Well, landscape mode will be used for the coverflow-ish view. I'm still considerind this.
Q: Will it support smartphones?
A: I hope so.
Q: Will it sync automatically with my computer?
A: Of course it will!
Q: Yeah, but how?
A: You have to select an iTunes playlist then decide whether use the activeSync connection (more convienient but slower) or select a drive, and let the Bridge program on your computer do the rest (less convienient, faster)
Q: Wait, you have to have iTunes to use with this thing?
A: Currently, yes. iTunes offers a great API to work with, so it's very efficient to use. Also, in iTunes, most people has georgeous album art in tracks, and in Lumen, album artwork uses a lot of screen real estate, making it look insanely great. In the future, I'll consider fetching MP3 ID3 data, and so.

Things I'd like to see with this application (in comparsion with Audio Manager):
1. Integrate with HTC Home music tab - so that it can be controlled via that tab.
2. Possible to turn-off phone/screen while the music keeps on playing (to conserve battery)
3. Lists/plays tracks according to track numbers, not alphabetically (Audio Manager has this problem)
4. Library option - by albums, artisits, genre , etc.
5. .ogg support.
Possible?

1. I don't know "HTC Home music tab" and I don't know how to communicate with it, but I'll take a look.
2. It's already implemented in a previous unpublished version.
3. If you go to an artist, and select an album, it'll show it by track numbers if it's given. Any "view" that contains songs from a single album uses this mode.
4. I think it's already in.
5. Well.. i'm using Windows Media Player component, so it plays it if your device already supports it. (I'm looking for a better audio playing solution) So in theory, it can work.
stephano nice works...!
Hope nice programs in the future from u..!
Just tried it out. Nice and cool.
Looking forward to your release. Good job bro!
wow
the second iPhone Media player in two days? I'm really impressed.
Will test soon
EDIT: Great concept, but try to speed it up. Oh, and mine does not play any music. Please fix it
mindless ramblings aside, this looks neat. You made it on to my 'watch-for-further-developments' list.
What to say.... WOW!
Scrolling smoothness is really impressive I must say. Some other developers playing around with iPhone like applications should implement your scrolling routine as it is almost perfect.
I had many problems with selections at beginning, until I realized that, differently from other apps, I had to double-tap , so ppl please DOUBLE TAP'em :-D
You could join efforts with the other guy messing with an iPhone like mediaplayer (His already playing trough WMP features), but I think those 2 are developed in different ways.
Hope anyway to hear news from you soon
I'd love to see what this app looks like, but I Can't since I don't have a WM5 or 6 device. My player and this, are coded in two very different ways, so it would be hard to sort of combine the two, or use his scrolling routine, although from the sounds of it...I'd LOVE TO! I'll be keeping my eyes here though...
In truth I would like to see other developers using YOUR scrolling routine. I truly love it!
Have a nice evening.

WOW! Thanks!! Really!
Anyway, you don't have to double-tap.. It goes into things with one tap, but I'm working on to make the app realize it much faster. Since it has to mess with databases, then draw the list, it isn't as easy, as you may think.

Hey great app, this is the kinda thing i've been looking for, anyways once you get everything working properly, i have a suggestion for a cool feature, maybe once ur in the player u could have a coverflow type thing where u can flick thru album covers to select songs, srry if i'm asking for too much too soon but i can't contain myself when something this cool comes up.

[APP][03•30•09][0.6.5] TrackMyRun - GPS Run/Walk tracking (Nike+ sorta)

I have started working on an app for Windows Mobile 6 phones w/ GPS to do run/walk/bike tracking like the Nike+. Here is a little Video of the app in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIqKHCb21cg&feature=channel_page
Version 0.6.5 9s attached
- Smartphone detection is in
- Run Form updated to be smartphone happy, view log is next.
Version 0.6.4 is attached
- Calories burnt calc!!!! (put your weight in...lbs for now...kg coming )
Version 0.6.3 is attached
- 1 Mile/KM kills the app bug fixed!
Version 0.6.2 is attached
- I am not dead! I promise
- This is mostly a maintence update. All the tracking code has been pulled from the views and put off in modules (as it should have been from the get go) so I can get a Smartphone version working soon.
Version 0.6.1 is attached
- Audio updates - new sounds for mile/km passed and distance goal hit
- Audio updates - updates to how the power management is dealt with for audio, still not perfect, but better
- Center button (on your direction pad) now turns the display off and on and also it stops the phone from sleeping when you use that display off method. This is great for phones that get a bit wierd on their GPS in unattended mode.
Version 0.6 is attached
- New internal tracking code to improve performance and make new feature additions easier (this was more about me than you )
- First audible notices. Each mile/km and distance goal hit. It is just a tone right now, but I will record and add voiced stuff tonight.
- New Settings tab for audible notices
- Smartphone users can atleast start the app and track a run now! (still no settings or view log...that is coming)
Version 0.5.9 is attached
- Fix the View/Save log bug (I hope)...you might have to delete your Run Log (yeah for Alpha testing!)
- New way to calculate speed that is more accurate for me. This might depend on what GPS chip your phone uses...try both and see which you like more (change in the Settings Screen)
Version 0.5.8 is attached
- AppToDate bug fix
- Start of true metric support
- little bug fixes
Version 0.5.7 is attached
- I think the String->Date bug is fixed, please let me know!
- Added an "Action" menu under the left soft key for start/stop/save (silly non-touch screen phone users!)
Version 0.5.6 is attached
- EMAIL A RUN!
(that is a horrible name for the feature right now....since it just gives you a link to share...)
http://www.trackmyrun.mobi/viewrun.php?run_id=18&auth_code=5qii4mfy
Version 0.5.5 is attached
- Settings screen is up and working
- Goal progress is based on settings now (not just 3.1 all the time)
- All based on miles still, KM is coming soon fear not!
- Few more bug fixes and exception catches
Version 0.5.3 is attached
- GPS unattended mode updates
- Few bug fixes
- Ignore Calories/Pace, those spots are place holders/debugging right now...they will work in a later release
Version 0.5.1 is attached
- GPS stays up in unattended mode now (screen off by time out or hitting the power button)
- Few little bug fixes
Version 0.5 is attached
- KML support is all in now
- Go to view a lot (has to be a new one) and select View in Google Maps
- Change the line in the KML file to be green since that yellow was hard to see
Version 0.4 is attached.
- Fixed a few of the stupid SubString() bugs
- Added Experimental KML support! (start a run, do some stuff, then go to options->experimental->Build KML). It will put test.kml in your devices root folder
- Working on new speed tracking code, it is far more accurate...but not done yet (so ignore that it has like 900 #'s after the decimal point)
- Ignore what it says for calories burnt...that isn't what you think it is
ENJOY!
Version 0.3 is attached.
Looks good! I would definatly use this app!
Looks impressive. The auditory upgrade feature would be cool to add.
There are similar Apps. One in particular is also cool is:
GPS Cycle Computer v2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
How would this calculate calories burned if your activity differs?
i.e. Rollerblading vs. Running vs Cycling, etc.
or is it simply based on time and distance to give a general calculation?
Nice looking app, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this one. Keep up the good work.
Does this track coordinates? Or does it track via something else? Cause then I'm thinking that you need an active data connection for this to work :|

It tracks coordinates, so no data plan is needed at all for this. Just a working GPS. Now, I plan in the future to have online features for showing your routes on google maps and storing run data online, ect...but that is in the future...

There are some standard formulats that are based on weight, time of exercise and how vigorous the activity is. For walk, jog, run that is easy (since I now your MPH's). For biking, roller blading, ect that gets tougher.
This is looking awesome. Could really do with an App like this. Keep it up and hope your "about a week" estimate is correct for a first beta.
A question though; I have a Touch HD. Has the interface been written to be able to cope with a WVGA resolution?

I have only tested it on a VGA display (my Touch Diamond). I have played with it in the QVGA emulator and the Square VGA emulator. The layout is far from final (I am not happy with it at all right now), so that is in flux a lot.
Go ahead and try the current version if you like:

Please be aware this is a VERY alpha version. There are known bugs that throw exceptions that I don't catch...so be nice
If you do however have any failures or success, please let me know.

AppToDate Support
Could you possibly think about having this AppToDate Support. Since this is in the early stages of development, it would be great to run AppToDate to get the current version. Thanks.
Couldn't wait until I got home so just loaded it up here. Everything seems good until I tried to View Log when it crashes out on me.Unfortunately I don't have NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab installed installed so cannot view details.
Also +1 for Apptodate support!

Did you start and then stop a run? The log file isn't created until you do atleast one and I bet it is dying trying to read the log file (which doesn't exist yet for you if you didn't do a start/stop)

Yeah I had done and paced about abit; notched up 0.003 miles. Stopped the run successfully and then tried to view the log.
I've just jogged home from a friend's house (1.237 miles). This time when I stopped the run it crashed. No error code or anything; just said I had to quit and restart.
Sorry that's probably not much good for bug finding!

Yeah no problems there. Slight lag on speed changes but I guess that's to be expected/part of the suposed and much debated GPS lag on the HD!
No complaints about performance at all.
I'm really liking the look of the App, certianly looks good so far; will be awesome if/when audio feedback can be given.
Something that would be good is if you could make the data from the logs uploadable to a PC to plot onto a graph (via Excel).
Like I said, great work so far! Loving this, who needs Nike/Apple!

The lag might be that I only update the display every 5 seconds (that is for all data). I think I might update the speed in real time (there is a call back function I can attach to for that). I do have plans for graphing/tracking/mapping in the future via an upload to a website feature...but that is a bit down the road I want to get all the stand alone client features working correctly first!
Please let us know when you have completed a final version. this program will be very useful. I know its still in the early stages hopefully you will be able to find the bugs and get them fixed, so we can download complete version.

What new apps would you like to see next?

List a few apps you would love to see created for wm devices. Here are some I would like to see (if not already available.)
1. App that changes spoken word into text
2. App to change voice (pitch, tone, etc) as you speak into your device
3. Spoken language converter for communication between two different languages
4. Radar to detect movement within a specified radius
5. calorie calculator - input what your eating throughout the day and it provides the # of calories for each item and gives a total
6. Car alarm interface - lock/unlock your car using your device
7. Battery maximizer - automatically cuts power to anything not being used/ auto restores when used and figures best output needed for operation
8. reserve 911 power - allows 5-7 mins of talk if 911 is dialed on a dead battery
9. Background noise reducer
10. flashing flare - signal for emergency or to get attention of others in dark places like clubs or movies. (choice of colors)
Some of those apps are a little too futuristic, like Spoken language converter, Car alarm interface (even if it would be able to make, it would probably be illegal?), though some others I think wouldn't be too hard to make for the developers here.
I dont have any specific request, I'd just love to see a game/app with nice graphics for once Most apps gui are kinda lame, even though the function is superb. Like if someone could do a remake of DiamondBeer and make it more realistic like the iPhone one (yeah I know, I'm jealous of all the apps iPhone has). Why dont developers and designers go together when they're creating stuff? Everything would be so much better with some teamwork
Tough I have an game/useless app idea. Kinda like a voodoo-doll using physics and the accelerometer. Like you toss a figure around by shaking your device and the figure gets more and more damaged..
Pomegranate NS08
http://www.pomegranatephone.com/
I agree some apps are a bit on the futuristic side but it's fun to dream.
Here are some in the games category please excuse me if it already exists:
1. Bowling - bowl is lauching by finger swipe (faster the swipt the faster the roll)
2. Dodgeball - control your character with your finger (see through image of your charter like oldschool punch out) and avoid the balls being thrown by other character. You can place the face of anyone in your pictures on the attacking/target character. Catch balls with a correctly timed tap.
Am I the only one that wants to see someone rewrite the text messaging side of the diamond?
Its crap.
Its not intuitive, its not finger friendly it doesn't look good and its slow.
And is it just me but when I try to look through past messages they seem t be in the wrong places. Like messages I've recieved aren't in the inbox. Messages I've sent aren't in the sent box!
Oh god, I can't stop laughing at that Pomegranatephone. Haha, awesome, would be cool if it actually was possible to make one of those.

I love the shaving part!
i think the bowling idea mentioned above is a great idea.
would love to have it.
using G-sensor to curve the ball could be interesting
concerning the "flashing flare", I made my very first WinMo app with your idea... So, please be kind ^^
Hope you'll like it
I'll add some features, like the morse code mode or the possibility to save the settings

Switching from iPhone 3GS to Nexus One in UK

Hi, all, let me start off by saying sorry for taking the thread about how you folk demo the N1 off topic, it was rather silly, and was not representative of my real feelings and wants for the N1.
I also want to make it clear this thread is not for a flame session about how much better/worse the 3GS is than the N1 or the other way around.
Not sure if links are allowed here, but if you read some of my posts on my blog at kevwright.co.uk or .com, hopefully you will see I am trying to get rid of the 3GS in favour of something else, I have been through a lot of devices, and at the moment, that something else is the N1.
The other thread about demo'ing the N1 originally attracted me as I was/am feeling a litttle disapointed that the N1 does not seem to have any killer features over the 3GS esp in the UK where we do not get the Navigation Feature, which does look fantastic in the US.
I feel I should point out that I always mean 3GS when I say iPhone, and will publicly state the previous iPhone models were a bit rubbish, but the 3GS is in a different league and I do sometimes think some of the more outspoken comments are from people who have or used to have a 2G or 3G. I used to use the 3G, and it needed rebooting most days, as there was not enough memory, but 3GS really is stable here.
I also always mean a JB 3GS. It is simple, I could not use an unJB iPhone as my daily driver as it lacks a couple of essentials for me, namely I want a separate voice alert for SMS, EMAIL along the lines of "you have mail" and "you have email", which you need JB to be able to SSH those files into the device.
I don't really follow the line that it is unfair to compare an unrooted N1 to a JB iPhone as it is really easy to JB (an older 3GS, newer ones are a bit harder) and crucially you can completely restore to factory if you need to for warranty.
Anyway, onto the few things I currently feel unable to give up on my iPhone, if I could find all of these now or the near future I would be happy to eBay the 3GS and go 100% N1, now, I know I can not have all these things today but maybe you can help with some of them.
I hope AndyCr15 will pitch in, as he suggested a few ideas already over in the other thread but we could not discuss them there.
1. Parkers Guide App, this is so useful to me in my work, actually earns me money
I doubt I can do much about this to be fair other than hassle Parkers to do an app. This is a UK reference source only folks.
2. Hardware Ringer Mute switch, it beats any software solution.
I now know the ringer switch thing so this is good enough I think.
3. Sky Mobile App, live Sports, superb quality
Again, only Sky can sort this out I reckon, but it truly is a brilliant app, with a JB hack, you can even watch Sky Sports on your Plasma through the iPhone.
4. Audible Audiobook support
Coming soon I hope, this is a real dealbreaker for me.
5. Tweetie 2
So far I tried a few Twitter apps on N1 and Seesmic is closest, gonna try Andy's suggestion now.
6. Choice to power up from front screen button, really handy to check time quickly
Andy mentioned there was an app for this, anyone know what it is called?
7. The Power + Home button to take a screen shot anywhere in the OS
I use this a lot on 3GS, and I am gutted N1 just does not have it, it is an example of good design from Apple.
8. TomTom, (I have got Google Nav working now, so will see if that is any good)
Sadly the hack for Google Nav in the UK is lacking compared to the TomTom I am used to, but this is coming along for Android, if I keep the N1 long term, maybe I will try Co-Pilot, which I also have on 3GS.
9. 32GB of built in memory minimum. Really is handy having ALL your stuff always on hand.
OK, I know I can not have this just yet, but its OK, 16GB will be OK for now
Thanks for any help folks.

I don't think it's the app I came across the other day, but apparently Alpha 3 of myLock will do this, as argued here. Alternatively, Lockbot Pro also does it.
I'm not sure I have much to add over what I said in the other thread... hope you like Tweetcaster or Swift for Twitter usage
Leo said once again in TWiT this weekend that the Audible app wouldn't be long...
**EDIT** The trackball wake app I was looking at was this I think -

A really good tip that might help you achieve some of your goals (won't replace apps you want of course)...
You can change the browser to iPhone "sim" mode, so when you visit a site it thinks you are on an iPhone... to do this, open your browser, then in the URL type in about:debug and hit go. It is not going to go to any sites, but when you to settings you will have some extra options at the end of the settings list, one of those is the "UAString" and you can change that between Android, iPhone, and Desktop...
In stock mode, the browser auto switches to Desktop part of the time if you go to a full site that has special security protocal, ie wellsfargo.com, but not always. So it is really helpful to turn on this option and switch it up as need be.
Conversly, Dolphin browser has this enabled by default as an option, but I am not a big fan of Dolphin, I think it slows down the browser experience personally.

Your welcome! And here is a short list of my top used apps (No root needed):
TubeDroid: D/L any youtube video, can even do HD D/Ls (it was $2, and there are free options, but I like the overall features of this)
TouchDown: Exchange email client that rocks! IMHO, does a better job than even WM... it costs $20, but you can do a free 5 day trial as many times as you want, you just have to re-enter your settings every 5 days to start the period over.
CameraFX: The stock camera app in 2.1 is a huge improvement over 1.6, and I bought CameraFX when using the G1... none the less, it still has a lot of features the stock camera does not have. I find myself switching between the two depending on what I am doing... for a couple dollars, though, it is well worth the added photo effect features.
Nemo: Excellent music player app. Doesn't add any new codecs, but is a very nice UI.
Beautiful Widgets: Clock/Weather in 1 widget, plus toggles for WiFi, Silent, Vibrate, et al. I think it is $3, IIRC.
EarthRot: It is a live wallpaper, and while they may not be your cup of tea, it is extremely cool IMHO.
Google's Weather/News app/widget: I have the news widget loaded on my home screen, love it since it does a damn good job of capturing the top news and getting it to me (of course, I still watch my fair share, and visit my news sites)
There are many more, but those are the top ones I use that are pretty universal in application to any on the go working man. Oh, yeah, for sports scores and updates I use SportsTap (Free, and has all my US needs covered at least, not sure about euro needs though, although it does have soccer... er football... only draw back, IMO, is that it is very dependent on data, so if you are not on 3G or WiFi it can be a bit slow, on 3G or WiFi it is very quick!)

You have to type in about:debug in the URL line to turn the option on before it will be available in the stock browser. I also then went on to say after doing that, go to the settings and at the bottom of the list there will be the new options, including the UAString setting.

Odd. I had them at the bottom of my settings anyway. Maybe I did the about:debug thing some other time.. I, incorrectly, read that as about:debug would bring up settings similar to firefox extra settings.

Nope, not given up at all, I tend to find that items on 7 day eBay sales get no attention at all for about 2-3 days, and by then I will know....
The reason for high price is that I actually don't want anyone hitting buy it now for a couple of days, and in fact you will see I have asked people NOT to hit buy it now without emailing me first
If I decide it goes, I will lower (or take less via email) and if I keep it I can simply overwrite this listing with the 3GS listing.
It is a common strategy for me, always worked well, and at 40p listing fee, a cheap way of getting some interest.

I am a pretty big football fan, both the American version and the original version... I got my Fifa10 on my PS3, it replaced Fifa09, which replaced PES8, and so forth. I also find Ausie rules football interesting, and Rugby is a great game to play and watch... mostly watch, a little rough for a small guy like myself.
What am I doing wrong for voice dialing?
On the 3GS all I do is hold down Home button wait for beep and say call David, Home (or Mobile) it gets it right about 80%
On my N1, I hold down search button or launch Voice Dialer from home screen (are these the same thing?), and it NEVER dials anyone, but always give me choices, often the one I want is there but quite a bit its not.
Is it just poor, or is this thing anti British?

Anti-British at the moment... and anti-Asian name... The more you use it, the better it gets at it, though. It uses server side processing that, much like google's search engine learns, it is supposed to learn the more people use it and the more often you use it specifically...
You can also try changing this setting, might not do anything, but it might help:
Settings:Language and Keyboard: Select locale: English (United Kingdom)
As well, Settings:Text-to-speech(I know, not the same thing):Language:British English
While it might not make a difference, here is to hoping! And I am pretty sure the local setting does effect the google server processor.

2.2 Review

*** True Story ***
I am a member on Dell's community forum and have watched Dell's mouthpiece, Amy-B, post the lies and put up the smoke and mirrors regarding this for a while now. When she first announced that the update would begin on 11/15, I paid closer attention. By the end of the week when there was no update, I commented that users may have a potential class action suit. With that, I got a scathing email from Dell saying I violated their terms of use, some left handed subtle threats, and my post was deleted. I still laugh about that.
End True Story, my ongoing review below
I put 2.2 on last night and played with it for a little while before bed, then really started putting it to the test today. here's what's happened until now.
First, when I applied the update, it kept a lot of previous settings and applications rather than clean wiping. It also bypassed forcing me to login to google account, so when I tried to use the market, it couldn't. With that, I used my credentials to login to my google account and immediately started having some google calendar syncing error. It became a loop, each time asking me to report it, then asking me to force close the app, and then over and over the same thing. So I rebooted the streak, and it came up with the same exact issue not allowing me to do anything with it. I had to pull the battery to shut it down this time and when I get it all together to power up, I simply held the up/down volume keys and told it to do a factory reset.
The rom cooks itself into the streak as the factory install and 2.2 came up on the next boot, this time asking for google credentials. It worked that time, and I was ready to put the phone through it's motions.
Issues I've found
1. Voice Dialer via Bluetooth crashes each time I try to use it. It crashes to the point that it tells me to restart my phone. This is without fail.
2. swiping to unlock the phone, or pattern unlock are flaky. it will start then stop as if I've taken my finger off. I have to do it multiple times and crazy ways to make it work. Pattern lock same thing. Especially after coming out of my pocket... as if the heat from my body makes my finger not be recognized on the whole screen. This build makes the touchscreen no longer responsive as it was in 1.6... update, I've tested this over and over and over. yes, it seems to be the temperature, because if I blow on the screen to cool it, or something similar, the screen becomes instantly responsive to my touch. I never had this problem with 1.6 regardless of when I pulled it out of my pocket.
3. sometimes, changing screens gets choppy or laggy.
4. No widget bar or tray/drawer that allows you to turn BT or Wifi on or off. You have to get something from the market to do this (updated, this is available as a widget, I should open my eyes a bit)
5. Can't change the number of screens; can't add or subtract screens, stages, rooms, or whatever you choose to call it. You're stuck with 7, the center one being the default.
6. Multiple FC's for variety of reasons, many are while simply browsing the market. With that Microsoft-esque error reporting thing always popping up, I think they anticipated feeding garbage to the masses.
7. Have tried a few alternate launchers. Some are better than others, more functional etc.. .but no matter how weak an alternate launcher appears to be, they pretty much ALL beat StageUI
Likes
1. Have always liked the live wallpapers that we were introduced to in 2.1
2. landscape mode rights itself regardless of which side is facing up. could be a caveat since it puts the home/back/menu buttons upside down on the left instead of right with the hard buttons on the bottom, but still kind of cool nonetheless.
4. Support for Exchange is native and doesn't require additional software/applications.
the long and the short of it.. Dell is useless as an OS developer/tweaker and StageUI blows.
Samsung hit the homerun with it on its Galaxy S series. I was just at best buy, and the Galaxy Tab is pretty sweet but the price tag is ridiculous. Comparing 2.1 of my Vibrant with 2.2 on my streak, the Vibrant wins. no contest.
Day one of having the new 2.2 update on there and it's clear that this OS needs some patching already. I can only imagine what the people on O2 in the UK had to go through with their 2.1 fiasco
more to follow...
Here's a couple of things that I like in this build but before I list the items I wanted to address the comment you made about being able to turn of BT, wi-fi, GPS, brightness, etc. Under apps you can select Power Control and that will give you those options in a form of a widget. You do, however, will have to delete one of the Stage widgets to free up the room. Or you can just open the widget via apps. For my use, I currently prefer a different launcher than Stage. I am using the LauncherPro but there are a lot of other free choices like ADW, Zeam and so on.
Here are the things I like about this build:
1. Ability to hang up the call by pressing the power button ( you have to go to Settings-Accessibility-then check the mark for that option)
2. Radio feature - is absolutely great. The thing I don't like is the web ad that seems to pop every time I start listening to a station. If anyone knows how to turn/block that pop-up you would make me very happy )
3. Keyboard is awesome. Love the size, the options to switch to symbols, just love it. Haven't messed with SWYPE but I love the Andriod KB right now.
4. Flash - yes it works and it works well.
5. Speed - significantly faster. Whether navigating or downloading. Wi-fi speeds are faster than 1.6 or 2.1 I use to have.
6. Bluetooth volume is louder. This one was high on my priority list.
7. Music widget - looks nice and clean.
8. Camera works fine. I don't see an option for 720p though.
9. Security is beefed up by adding the option for PIN or password on top of the normal sliding lock. My slider works without any issues. But I prefer the pattern lock which also works great.
10. Haptic feedback can't be completely turned off, or you can turn off certain features alone like keyboard. I have mine off so the three main buttons don't vibrate any more. I don't think that option was available in the previous builds but I could be wrong.
These are the ones that I can think of right off the bat. I may add more as I remember them.

Long press home, then under widgets, then power control... thanks tons. that's what I was looking for.
So my quick review:
The good:
Loving the out-of-the-box Exchange support. Yay. Mobile e-mail/calendar/contacts without having to use Touchdown and the hassle of 'pushing' Touchdown contacts to the phone's contacts.
w00t. Ability to grab requiring apps from the market which require 2.x.
2.x features like portrait home screen, better multi-touch, etc.
The bad:
The Stage UI is just lame. Giving it a few days before I toss it in the bin.
I miss the old video playing app. I dunno what it was called, but there isn't even a shortcut for the new one. I installed ASTRO File Manager, browsed to my video directory and the file launched with some less-than-basic video player. What I liked about the old one was the order-by-date view which I have become used to but isn't the end of the world, the resume where you left off feature, and the delete from within the app feature. I guess Rock Player is the video player most people seem to be recommending, so I hope it has this.
For all its faults, I liked the old keyboard. I suspect it's still there, but I have yet to look. Using 2 (To/two/too) and 4 (For/four), etc in txt/IM/tweets now takes extra keypresses.
I never really knew how handy the Dell notification area was for 1.6. I'd turn off the cellular data and run Wi-Fi only, with just a couple of presses and it wouldn't interrupt the app I was in. Now I have to go to the home screen, press the menu button, and that's only to turn off wireless. I have yet to find the equivalent enable/disable for 3G.
Yet to check:
I've found the Streak's camera has taken pretty lame photos. I'm not photophile, but our 5 year old, 4MP camera takes better photos than the Streak. I've had the Streak set to the best quality (Lowest compression or whatever it was) and if you zoom in on a picture while viewing on a PC, it gets pixelated very quickly, while our 4MP pics are much nicer looking and they are twice the file size (4MP pic twice the file size of a 5MP pic?), so I'm interpreted this as 'The Streak takes crappy pics'. Been waiting to see what, if anything, the upgrade to 2.2 does for this.
So I guess it seems to lack polish, BUT, I think the reason for this is because it's actually near-to-bare Android, so I'm not going to criticise the roughness when the other option is more polish (Which one may or may not like) from Dell that means OS updates take 6+ months. I'm sure I'll be able to overcome anything I'm not liking with apps or through tweaking some options somewhere. Isn't this why we have Android?
But yeah. Stage is coming off pretty quick I suspect.
PS - You all might laugh: http://i.imgur.com/ULMLx.png
This build was far too laggy for my tastes. 1.6 was faster on some of the processes for me. I'm happily back on DJ Steve's build which is soooo much faster and has virtually the same features.

Something I'm surprised is:
2.2 doesn't have separate sounds for incoming:
E-mail
Texts
Reminders
...I dunno if iOS does, but my old Windows Mobile device did. I'd like a different sounds for these events, as I'll respond to them differently. Now I don't know if it's a calendar reminder which I can't ignore, a text which I might ignore or an e-mail that I can ignore...

Try "Quick Settings" which puts an icon in your status bar so when in an app, just drag down the status bar click on it and all your settings are there. Or, try "QuickDesk". Not sure if this is out of beta yet but its also an awesome app for doing exactly what you are talking about.....and much more.

Yes the led can work as a flashlight. I used the N1 Torch app and it worked fine.

I really miss the 1.6 menu bar/notification bar. Stage blows compared to the old ui. The swype keyboard is great. I have mixed feelings about the update mainly because of the ui changes.

as you are on 2.2 now , can you check something for me ?
- can flashled from camera be used as torchlight ?
- it should have usb tethering now, but does it also do wifi-tethering ?
- can the flashplayer play activescript ?
- is activesync (not exchange) working ?

Alright. Others have answered, but I'll pass on what I know. If you're talking Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) not talking to an Exchange server, a la Hotmail, I'm getting a "cannot connect to server" error... My EAS to work's Exchange is working flawlessly though.
And USB/Wi-fi tethering are working grand. I'm tethered by Wi-fi as I write this, so I can pass my 3G USB modem on to a colleague. w00t.
I am a little concerned about battery life. I haven't done that much with the phone today, unlike a normal day where I might squeeze in a few calls, texts, tweets, bit of web browsing, and three+ hours of video and have the battery at 20% at the end of the day. I'm at 20% left now, and I haven't done any of those things.
thnx
have you tried hotmail through POP3 ? it worked with k9 client.
what i meant is activesync on windows 7 64bit with office 2010 32bit.
yeah batterylife concerns me also. i have a habit of draining these in godspeed (A)
You can create a shortcut to the wifi & networks popup from launcherpro activities.
1. Long press on the desktop bsckground
2. Select shortcut
3. Select Activities
4. Select wireless & networks

Kinda. You still have to go from the app you're in out to the home screen, turn it on/off, and then go back to your app. But thanks for the info.
