WM 6.1 ROM - A Good Media Player? - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hello,
I just purchased a Mogul. My first task was to apply the official Sprint WM6.1 update, which applied with no trouble.
I am now looking for a media player that will play videos I have converted for an Ipod Touch. Windows Media player does not do it. So I tried a version of TCPMP for WM, but it won't even come up.
So I bit the bullet and purchased a licensed copy of the CorePlayer. This is supposed to be the best their is, but it freezes up when I play most video files, including simple MPEG1 files. I suspect it has not been tested extensively on WM6.1
So .. is there any other media player I can try?

There is a new version of TCPMP posted here on the forum - with source code. You need to get that and you also need to extract 2 DLLs from WM5 into you windows directory. This will allow you to play all wma files (otherwise TCPMP won't even see them). If you can't find either of these files, let me know and I'll post links to them sometime in the next couple days.
ALSO, you will need to customize TCPMP to set the buffer settings that work best on your phone. In general the phones are a step back from pure PDAs like a circa 2005 Toshibe e750, but you can get them to play without skipping if you balance them right and/or select low quality playback in TCPMP.

TCPMP is nice, but after trying Core I stuck with that. I like the more refined look, and the equalizer has a few more sliders.
Both are great though.

I'll willingly purchase but would love to first see a full listing of the changes to see what I am getting for my buck. Have you seen any comparisons or could you do a fuller review yourself?

Where can i find those 2 dll files? i've installed the correct version which works on 6.1 but the movies i've played, skipped... Do anyone have an idea what i can do, so that the movies played correct? What settings do i have to change?

well this costs 20.00 but i truly think it is, hands down, the best audio player you will get (not best video) but for audio it is extremely nice. http://www.conduits.com/news/pr20080820.html

Anyone willing to make a cab off this? Looks like a neat player I'd like to try.
Kinoma is much better..
http://kinoma.com/
i wish i could agree with that assessment crazylilboy. ive tried kinoma. and havent gotten to neromobile just yet. but, kinoma SUCKS!! cool interface and that's where the positive end. it hijacks all ur file associations so you cant play anything straight from file explorer as it becomes unrecognized. it scans ALL my folders for media even crap that is in program files and other directories that arent media related as thats what support says it shouldnt be scanning. lastly, and this really isnt all. movie playback is crap compared to coreplayer. it only supports 3 file types, one of which a normal person would use or encode their movies to(mp4). u cant decent quality because u have to keep the bitrate soo low for it not to freeze or chop up. so, ill try this as it cant get much worse and if u need other reasons NOT to use Kinoma, PM me
OH, and thanks for the find on Neromobile

So, what do you guys say is the best music player anyway, with a good combination interface and features. I really didn't like S2P due to the lack of sorting by ID3 tags and lack of equalizer et all, Touch player(samsung's bundled with omnia) is OK, and Kinoma is speedy and all yeah, but not that big on features. Any other alternatives.
And uhm, cab possible? Or just the installed folder zipped?
A good Music Player for WM... theres a number of them but it all depends on personal preference and there are a couple which do stand above the crowd such as Conduit's Pocket Player and PocketMind PocketMusic.
s2p is obviously the best music player.
as for video.. i'd go with coreplayer.
Already tested neromobile but I still prefer TCPMP for stable and light, or s2p for it´s nice design

Thanx to teixeirabmb for providing this
for me is coreplayer and pocket player
CorePlayer + Opal YouTube + S2P (because it kicks ass) + WMP for playlist = too many media apps, but it's all I need, also MobiTV !
i use mortplayer with iphone skin
i just luv how you can track change using gestures...
i use my phone as car music player so i dont like looking for buttons while driving
I tried Nero Mobile more than a year ago.
I will not try that again....ever, not if there are other choices out there.
Some of you mentioned S2P, I thought S2P is just a shell for WMP. Is it actually a player?
A Cab File Please..
Can anyone here provide a cab file for neromobile please.I'll be much thankful for the help.Please.....

My touch HD video experience

Hi everyone.
I would like to share with you my experience with the touch HD and the settings I use for video playback.
I own both an iphone 3g and a HTC touch HD and set about looking for a piece of software that could encode video once and playback perfectly on both phones.
After many hours of trying various encoding programs I have finally found one that encodes perfectly for both devices and plays in the standard HTC media player. Best of all its free!!
The software I use is called Freestar ipod video converter and the settings I use are as follows..
Select the device as iphone and under advanced settings alter the video quality to 512. Its as simple as that!
I have encoded around 30 movies using various source code from DVD rips to divx/xvid and have had no problems at all. All the videos have played perfectly on both the iphone 3g and the HTC touch HD.
Hope this helps in some way.
Richard
Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in looking into this. I've tried super.. and can't figure out how to START the conversion (am I an idiot???) I've tried the purpose build HD encoder program I found on here and it doens't seem to make ANY different to my player. I'd be interested in checking this process out.
Regards,
BANE
The only problem I have is shutting down the software after it has finished converting, I am using Vista 32 bit and have to go through task manager to close the program.
Other than that small issue I find the software really easy to use. Simply click add and browse to the file you want to convert then click convert.
It averages around 13 to 15 minutes to convert a full length movie on my machine. Q6600,4GB ram,8800gtx.
Cheers.....Richard
Exciting! I too have yet to find the solution that works. I note that Freestar takes the VOB files as input rther than IFO files. Can I ask how you concatanate the converted files together to make one seamless movie when the various VOBs have been converted?

Drag your media file into the bottom section of Super, once there choose your settings for encode etc then make your the file in the bottom section is "ticked" and click encode - should work.. Think default output location is program files\super or summit like that..
I'm not joking... but I don't seem to have an ENCODE buttone. Out of curiosity, could you please tell me exactly where this button is on your program so i can make sure it's not staring me in the face??
Thanks

I use a program called videoredoplus to concatenate mpg (and vob) files which streamcopies as oppposed to recodes. Concatenate before recoding (with anything) for the best quality results

It even has a device profile for the HD and it works perfectly. I use it on a Vista 64 Ultimate system and have had no problems. They offer a 7 day full feature trial download. My 8 core Xeon system can do a 1:45 movie in 17 minutes in HQ mode!
Very impressive and easy to use UI. Three things needed to configure it is to tell it that you have a Touch HD (HQ mode preferred), where to put the file (unless you want the default location) and press "GO". It's that easy. $19.95 USD is a bargain.

^^ its a **** program.
I used a trial to convert a HD film to that 800x480 and just picked the profile HTC HD (HQ) and the film is unwatchable.
Got a benchmark of 54%.
In the end, i guess it doesn't come down to the program but the device.
This is getting ridiculous!

A little harsh but I tend to agree with this sentiment after doing a couple of flics.. perhaps it's virtues lie somewhere yet to be discovered.
I use the ipod me video converter in the maximum resolution and in the options - slow, quality and the videos in the touch HD play perfect.
And it also allows to use subtitles (srt) (The encoder in this forum also works but it doesn't allow subtitles and sometimes I have sound issues...)

Strange, I have burned several movies and just selected the HD (HQ) profile and changed nothing else (defaults for everything except for conversion priortiy, I set that to Very High, as I have an 8 core Xeon with 32GB of RAM and therefore get 17-18 minute conversions) and it views perfectly. What player are you using? I am using the standard, built in Windows Media Player and get superb results.
Try it again with WMP and let me know what results you get.
Gordo
what do you mean with HTC built in media player? The windows mobile media player? That's one of the worst players in my opinion.

I have to say that I'm watching a full length vid now on my HTC Touch HD having used DVD Catalyst 3 on trial and it is perfect in both WMP and Album player (I don't really see any difference.)
I've not had any sucess previously with Super Converter no matter what setting I tried, yet with this, as Gordo said, just set it running with the default settings for the HTC and it converted seamlessly.
Most impressed and I think I shall be buying this one after the trial.
Trixter: Thank you very much for the screen shot. I can confirm that those buttons do NOT show up in the build I have :S (can't recall which build it is offhand) Weird.
And is it just me or is it really difficult to find this for download? I go to their site download page, but end up navigating in circles :S

I beg to differ. While the UI sucks somewhat, I found WMP to sound better than Coreplayer (after tweaking it for hours!) and Pocketplayer. This is true with both my Shure SE530's and my Moto S9-HD's.
Here is a link to a video I shot with my son's Flip video camera so the quality is not perfect. I could not get close enough and keep the Touch HD in focus and let you see how clean the movie is. As I said in my earlier posts, DVDCatalyst and WMP work together perfectly.
Right click this link and do a "save as".

...at last!
Fabulous! Having tried many of the solutions available, this is the first one that takes a real DVD (as opposed to a video file) and extracts and encodes the file to a size that allows playback on the Touch HD without stuttering.
Belive me, I've tried many solutions but this is not only effective, it's incredibly easy to use!
I recommend everyone to give it a try. I shall be paying. I've spent more time and money trying to get video to work on the Touch HD that the price seems lke a brgain now even though it might not have done when I started the process.
ok, update. Thankfully now SUPER encoder WORKS. IE the ENCODE NOW button and the rest of the buttons at the bottom have appeared.
I'm running a Vaio UX280P as my main computer, and whether it's to do with changing my poser setting from MAXIMUM BATTERY to Desktop use, or the fact that my resolution is higher when I plug it into an external monitor, It's worked.
I encoded a movie today and it not only works a treat, it did it in a pretty decent amount of time. My past experience with encoding stuff took HOURS!
Anywa, seems like a great program now i've had the chance to use it.

media woes!!

ok well im slowly getting to grips with my touch, now obviously it comes with windows media player, i have also installed core player.
on my pc i have total video convertor and pocket divx convertor. which program should i be using to convert various avi's that i have to get the best quality, what format should i be converting into, and what program should i be using on my touch to watch them, iv had a few attempts and everything i convert seems to come out rather jumpy etc and just not good to watch.
thankyou.
Please use the search function or atleast google. This has been addressed many times over. In fact, it's been discussed so much that several great xda members have even made various programs/applications which will convert whatever input to an output which performs best on the HD. Most of these are in the Applications part of the Blackstone forum.
In a nutshell, the built in TF3D player is the best way to go since it's the only player which uses hardware acceleration and will give best results when playing mp4.
sincere apologies, i was just being lazy
will search now and delete core player lol
Hello pugme
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112 and download this free video converter it’s the best one out there. The Touch HD has its own player and the quality of these 2 apps together is superb. If you put the converted films on to your sd card in a folder called films or what ever you want then start/programs/album/albums/storage card/films then select to play or add albums to your programs short cut.
Quality when watching is like half hd
use Duttys ROM with coreplayer i can play pretty much anything i want without jumping, dont get me wrong the converting programs on here are very good but why convert if you dont have too!

media player

since everyone is telling (youtube etc) that the buildt in mp is crap.
who has a better one?
for video?
the built in player is excellent for things that are encoded for it. beautiful quality
anything else use coreplayer.

I used coreplayer on my tytn2 but it won't run on my touch pro 2 it fails to start everytime ????
just downloaded an ipod movies .mp4 video and all it shows up as on the built in media player is perfect sound but a green screen ??? why is it so hard to play video's on my phone
I'm using Coreplayer 1.3.2 Build 6909 for ARM atm on my TP2. Had no problem with the install, and it runs all my Xvid/DivX movies just fine.
Mediaplayer, wont show any files in its library so i stopped using that, for music I'm using that crappy Touchflo player (library is too limited for me)
For Vid's I really recommend you to use Coreplayer, it plays music as well, although I haven't tried that yet
just looked at their site and they want me to pay $29 for it !!!! it may be annoying not to be able to watch certain movies on my phone but it isn't worth parting with the much money. I used TCPMP player previously before it became commercially Coreplayer, it worked on my tytn and it was free, since it's become commercial I guess it's no longer an option.
MP4 Player fix for TP2 PLEASE!?
I'd just like to take this moment to say AHHHHHH!!! I'm about to pull what little hair i have left OUT!!
Ok... I've dug through 1000s of sites and forums, 100s of downloads, installs, uninstalls onto memory card and or directly onto my phone. Downloaded even directly to Desktop computer to open / transfer / unzip to removable, then active sync, drag drops, etc... etc...etc...
I had a good TCPMP Player on my winMo5.0 phone that lasted me the last couple years. Now on TP2 WinMo6.1 It doesnt work and i FINALLY found a new one to download and hear people DO have it working on theirs while others don't.... the player they sent with the device beyond sucks!! and I am unable to view flash on the fly..
I even PAID for the download and recieved NO help whatsoever so I'm here after a YEAR of great advice from you all...
I downloaded TCPMP.pocketPC.0.72rc1,
ran the .cab and all seemed to work correctly and even have the shortcut in my programs.. I click on it and receive this pop open:
::::Unexpected program failure. Please send "crash.txt" to the developers. Program will now exit::::
I read some on people saying there is a fix or an add.. please help this long term beginner... PLEASE... I would pay if anYONE could make this simple.. I need to use my phone and cant risk dinking around tOO much with it.

gOOOD mp4 player that has been tested and you can walk me through step by step
OR if Im to use the player on the phone currently, how can I create an option for it to auto replay until I can fix the TCPMP so I can move smoothly through the frames

Which Coreplayer version for us?
I see there are 2 arm versions of coreplayer. For the TP2, would I get the "Pocket PC / Arm" or "Smartphone / Arm" version? Both say they are for Windows Mobile.

This forum does have a search facility, you know. Had you considered using it?
Download the version of TCPMP that you'll find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3275845&postcount=172
Then go into the Settings screen, the DirectDraw page, and tick the box that says "use blitting instead of overlay".

Getting really annoyed

After trying and failing to get xvid and divx codec movies to reliably play on Coreplayer or TCPMP, I decided to find a good converter, and used WinMenc to convert the files to .mp4 x264 format so I can play it natively on the device using the Windows Media Player built in, HOWEVER the Media Player looks like it;s going to load the videos, i.e. showed 'Loading...' with the white circle, but then it never moves on. The device is not crashed, as I can just exit out, but the movies will not play even in a format that the HD2 recognises. This is really annoying the hell out of me now, as all I want to do is play video on my phone, not really asking a great deal.
Has anyone got any advice for fixing this problem with Media Player 'getting stuck'? Cheers
Any ideas? Can WMP even be reinstalled or repaired? Seems a bit strange for an app native to the device to just not work.

Yeah I'm using his HD2 profile buddy, saved as an .ini.
I think it's WMP to be honest, as it does the same on any .mp4. Currently, I can only get a very small number of films to run through TCPMP, but I can't identify what's causing them to work/not work. But WMP does not work at all!
I'm wondering if a hard reset might work on it. I'm getting seriously fed up with my HD2 though, far too many things wrong with it. I'm starting to think about flogging it now.

I converted a few films with a crappy free verison of some software can't remember the name tho. So far all have worked on all the media players I have used WMP, TCPMP and Core player. Are you on a custom ROM? Not sure if certain ROMS may have bugs in causing this.

I've used the normal HTC ROM and Artemis ROM, happens on both. I've tried all sorts of conversion software. Nothing ever seems to reliably play.
