Help Needed: Registy change disabled touch screen - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Dear All,
I messed my device by reducing
HKLM\Drivers\Touchpanel\Pressure Threshold
to 400. After restart, the touch screen is TOTALLY non functional (OK I accept, its a blunder ). Is there a solution without hard rest?.
I have tried several "Remote" registry editors to restore the value. Mobile Registry Editor gives "Access denied" error. Other softwares require something to be installed to the device.... I cant activate the "yes" required during installation.
Any advice/suggestion is most welcome!
Best regards,
Waqar.

what about this one?

maybe you have total commander installed on your device? it has a registry editor under "plugins"... comfortable enough to edit all your needs

Thanks! But it has same problem of "Access Denied". There is an unlock tool, but it still needs running something on PDA, which ends up demanding a "Yes" response on my PDA, which I cant do without touch!
Thanks again!

yes, at least navigating should work, if u go to the folder at the very top and hit the "LEFT" key then it moves on directory up until you reach "plugins" and from there to your regkey, but I tried to edit/alter the file with the hardkeys only, and yeah it didnt work... *sigh*
my last thought is that you could ask someone to send you a .reg file via MMS/Bluetooth/e-mail with the right setting of 11000 and you just run that .reg file to alter the value... hope it helps.

Touch Cruise performance enhancements

Great tips!
thanks for the tips!
With the O2 version, the registry just reverts back to what it was. Anyone have a cure for this?
This is a really valuable thread. Well done and a big thank you to kwabbernootje for gathering together and posting all this valuable information.
Moderators - how does a thread qualify to be sticky? I'd like to kick off the campaign to make this one sticky. I know there's some overlap with the existing tips & tweaks sticky but I think there is huge value in a thread that is focussed on performance enhancements.

Good summary, thanks!

11. Smooth video playback
For video playback buy Coreplayer 1.1.3 Qtv edition. This (interim) release does NOT fix the driver issue. However they have figured out the Qtv video overlay API’s and are able to take advantage of them. For converting DVD movies quickly take a look at CloneDVD Mobile.

Is there any registry modification to disable the TOUCH funcionality in Polaris ?!
I had a problem with my polaris after use kaisertweak , and now nothing in the screen pressed or clicked like i dont have a touch screen.
Only when i do gesture up the cube comes up .. nothing else..
and for this reason i think if there is such a modification in a registry that changed by mistake ..
is there something ?!?!
CruiseMod, can you be more specific? What did you change or trying to change in the registry? You can always try a hard reset.

Don't use Kaisertweak on the cruise ! ...or if you do so you have to make an hard reset to get back to full fonctions.
I know this error from CruiseMod :->
You have change with Kaiser tweak the Touch Value!!!
Open with a Text editor the kaisertweak xml file Look about the registry keys for touch and use "Mobile Registry Editor" to edit this value remote from your winxp pc. after softreset your device works again ... value must like over 40000!!!!
If some on want ... i can start to develope a Polaris/Nike-Tweak. I must only edit some value ... not more. realy easy to port!

1 question :

11. Fix slow scrolling large webpages Pocket Internet Explorer
- By default Pocket Internet Explorer is very slow scrolling larger webpages due to rendering problems. This can be fixed by replacing the file called "webview.dll" in the "\Windows" sytemfolder with an older version. The attached CAB file puts the faster webview.dll in the windows folder. A softreset is needed after installation. (you can simply uninstall the patch by using the program manager and restore the webview.dll file to factory default)
Click to collapse
I can't find this file "webview.dll" (all visible files "on" of course). Where else could be found ? Does the .cab file attached works in my case ?
Thanks for your help !
@Tane71
The webview.dll is in the \Windows directory. Use Resco file explorer e.q. to search this directory. The default file explorer hides certain system files. If you own a Touch Cruise the cab file will work after installation and a soft reset.

Disable WM6 Startup Sound

I auto-soft reset my Touch at 2 am.
When the title screen for WM comes up that music wakes me up...
How do I disable the WM6 Startup Sound?
Thanks!
I found the culprit = PhoneOn.wav.
I tried deleting the Key for the .wav in HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation
but did not work.
I also tried to delete PhoneOn.wav with Total Commander but its protected from deletion in some way....aaaaargh!

Are the registry edits you making actually getting written? Are you powering off the device after making the edits or just soft resetting?
Verify that the changes are made after booting by reviewing the entries again.

Slim,
I rebooted and the entry is getting written. I then soft reset and that darn music is still playing -- are you on a Touch (Vogue)??
thanks
This worked for me
This is what I just did, seems to work fine.
1) Use Total Commander to search for the registry key which contains sound_on.
or browse to
\HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA\FlightModeOnOff\Sound_on
2) Change the content of that key from "SoundOn.wav" to "silence.wav"
3) Done.
I now get a nice and quiet soft reset. I'm using the HTC Touch / Vogue.
Leon.
Sorry dude, I am using a Tilt. I pulled the reg keys from the ROM kitchen I use to build my ROM; however, I HATE the stupid startup animation and sound, so I never cook it in to my builds.
The calls for your startup animation must be somewhere else.
Try ibloo's solution...I will look around a bit and see if I can find out why those reg edits I suggested don't work for you.

FOR HTC PURE,
Here is how to replace the annoying AT&T startup noise with any sound file of your own choice:
Edit the registry at following location:
[HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation]
Change StartupWav to any other wav files.
Remember..
When you are making changes to the registry...
-exit the registry editor
-give it a good 10 seconds or so, then hit the power button (to blank the screen). This allows the registry settings to bake/get applied.
-Then, do a soft reset.
Else.. if you do it too quick, the changes may not apply/stick.

Hi Chemist
Found this one but what I really want is NO sound at all. How do I achieve that? Can I just remove the reference to the existing .WAV file or do I have to replace it with a .WAV that is empty, ie, no sound? If that is the case do you know where I can get hold of one or how I could make one?
Thanks in advance.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation]

How to reset WM on touchscreen-broken PDA

I've got an Hermes with a broken touchscreen. I hard reset it and now it is stuck on the screen saying "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile based device." I tried pressing all the buttons and doing hard and soft resets, but nothing will get me past that screen.
Anyone have any ideas to get past that first screen? Is there some way that I could access it through my PC and modify some file that would make it think that I had set it up already? (I flashed it with wm6 if that makes any difference.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also I tried to delete welcome.* files, but it is impossible due to ROM protection.
Very simmiliar to my problem is this thread:

I wish you hadn't said that!! It's nearly three years since wrote that piece and 've forgotten more than I remember.
I ass ume when you say you tried soft resets, you mean doing a soft reset after a hard reset but before it gets to the screen alignment stage?? If not then try it (but I guess you have)
I notice the the website for remote alignment has been updated. It may be worth gong to the first link and getting the device specific application rather than the older one I gave in a link.
There were several threads on this in the past, it may be worth searching on remote alignment.
It wll probably take me as long to track the problem as you, I'll see if I get time later.
Mike
Thank you very much!
Not sure this will be much help, but some more ideas perhaps:
I have done some searching, but only found a couple of cases where folk were getting the same error as you. In those cases it appeared to be that they were using Vista (and therefore not Active Sync) or they were connected but without a complete Active Sync pairing. There is also the suggestion that connecting as "Guest" is not productive.
The summary of the routine things to try appears to be:
1
Enter data to the WM registry from PC. Find a key by this name or similar.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="1922,1957 3330,639 3317,3276 600,3230 609,677
(This data varies according to screen size and therefore devices differ, though it hardly matters if the screen is totally unresponsive.)
2
Use the codefactory remote alignment program – BUT
Use XP not vista
Pair up with Active Sync but not as “GUEST”
3
Navigate to the windows directory on the PPC and delete file called welcome.exe If it will not delete, try re-naming it.
4
Create a blank file on you pc called welcome.not and place it on the root of your storage card.

Mike
Well, I'd like to post some of my oservations concerning this problem...
Remote Screen Alignment really works. But! It works (as I suppose) only in situations, when Windows/Startup Folder is present (or some files in this folder). I'm not sure, but it may be.
If this folder is missing, try to put welcome.not simple text file in the root folder of your mobile storage.
In my case, this folder was absent so I had a frustrating exception handler (as I might guess).
Good luck, guys .

[TIPS] Improve Screen Sensitivity Of Your WinMo (.cab) UPDATE 25/4/11

Hi,
I have found tips over the forums on how to improve the screen sensitivity of your WinMo resistive touchscreen
1) When calibrating your screen, tap the cursor hairs as accurately and as lightly as possible. I use a toothpick for this, it has a fine tip. You will notice immediately how much more responsive your screen is!
2) Another method I found was:
a) Install Attached .cab / Reg Tweak
b) Soft Reset
c) Be Amazed at your Screen Sensitivity!
This is a little .cab file / reg tweak created by kevinpwhite (all credits to him)
EDIT: Many people in the thread have said that it has calibrated their screen wrong and they can't navigate it (cab/reg) This has resulted in a hard reset to get the touchscreen back(due to different touchscreen resolutions etc) I will investigate more into this and create a new version, if possible. Please use it at your own risk, and be sure to create a backup of your device.

Hi, dudes, my HTC WIZARD gets "untouchable" after this installation, but i found the way to solve it! =D
1- Download: CeRegEdit (u can found it on Google, with this u can explore your mobile reg trough your PC)
2- Open it (with your cell phone connected in ActiveSync)
3- Go to Tools, and select "Unlock registry" (your registry will be "Editable")
4- Navigate to:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH] and change this values to your defaults:
"CalibrationData" and "MaxCalError" (you have to found the values for your phone, here in XDA i foud the values for my phone)
5- Softreset
I hope to help someone, and i hope than no one had to make an horrible hardreset

This was created specifically for the TG01, but i think that the WinMo stored values are the same across all devices. It simply changes a reg key to increase the screen pressure to the max.

this sets your screen sensitivity to the maximum allowed pressure point. So your resisitive touch screen will require a light touch to register changes.
This is what loads of people complain about? Poor screen sensitivity? So try this out!!

I always thought that this couldn't really be done. Tried many before and didn't see a difference. Then again I can't help myself so I will try this out too.
why didn't you come up with this earlier? i wasted two years using my htc jade with this insensitivity, finally a solution
thank you so much
Okay, I will try it now, but we need to know if there are a way to uninstall it safely in case if anything wrong happen like that one who had the Omnia, also you should type if we have to recalibrate the screen points after installing the tweak on all devices or what.
Thanks in advance.
tried it on my hTC Gene (P3400) running 6.5.5 and i got the same problem mentioned in post #5...dead unresponsive screen with a few taps being wrongly located towards the bottom right of the screen...so had to go into the screen setting via my D-pad and re-align the screen to enable it again
i think problem has something to do with the screen resolution (mine is qvga)
faced similar issues when trying a screen sensitivity improvement hack meant for wvga screens i found somewhere within the forums...
anyways nice job...its great to see some people still trying to make an effort to keep WinMo going!! keep up the good work!!

first try method one of calibrating your screen on your own
if you try method two of installing the cab thenall you have to do is run the cab file and soft-reset your device
if its worked, and we hope it does, then that should be it, you should have a screen which is more responsive
if you get a frozen screen just navigate to settings/system/screen and align your screen again to get it to work using the direction keys if you have them or by any other means
or hard reset to undo the settings
i'm just sharing whatever info i have...do tell me if i've left anything out
