htc usb hub - Shift General

Often I use shift usb hub only in usb mode.
today wanted to connect to my shift's hub an ethernet cable. and surprise...
it don't work.. no light blink, no changes on my system.
rebooted shift with the hub attached and it don't work anymore.
Watched trough bios settings but theres no menu about it.
What i must do? install drivers or try some setting in vista side?
attached hub to another laptop/desktop but asked to me drivers..
someone can help me?

I had same problem with usb hub - usb was ok, but ethernet doesn't works.
Look to the device managed, if Windows recognized the ethernet via usb. I had an icon with exclamation mark. After complain and replacing everything is ok.

The drivers are here:
http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=86

thanks
many thanks for the help.
i did nothing, today attached the hub and macically worked.
Don't know why.. sometimes this shift is very strange..
also wifi, sd, sometimes disappear and macically them come to work.
Boh.
Thank a lot

Shift Happens!!! Smiles
No, really, if you are still using Vista on the Shift, you have to be VERY patient on startup and let it fully complete (can take 10 mins from cold start!!) before you can start to see your network connections correctly and start to use it fully. Thats why HTC have given us 'standby' as the switch off default.
Its not much faster than most of the latest phones in CPU speed and Vista is prob the most CPU intensive.

[Solved] HD2 Connection problem with Win7 & WMDC

Massive problem, HD2 gurus please help me here:
HTC HD2 & WMDC & Win7 x64 = Not working.
I've downloaded WMDC x64 bit from Microsoft's official site, installed the app, plugged my phone in the USB port..... and nothing happens. Win7 x64 does not pick up the phone via any of my USB port (I've tried like 4 different USB ports already).
Here is the weird part, Windows doesn't even pick up the HD2 as an USB device. I doubled checked via Task manager, and nothing has been detected. I have scanned for new hardware via the device manager countless of times.
Nothing shows up, not in device manager, nor control panel. Having WMDC installed doesn't help either, the app simply doesn't recognise HD2 via USB cable. Even with WMDC uninstalled, Windows just can't detect my HD2, but when I plug my Nokia N97 in the same USB port, Win7 picks it up as a mass storage device straight away.
Basically the phone will only charge the battery from the USB port, and nothing else. Win7 x64 doesn't even flinch when I plug the phone in, nothing pops up, WMDC says no device is found. I've tried just about everything, googled a bit and it seems like I'm not the only one that's suffering from this problem.
Here is a list of all the possible solutions that I've tried :
Ran WMDC as system administrator

Uninstall WMDC & WMDC update via Windows control panel, and plug the HD2 in without WMDC installed.

Please help me, this is a great phone and I can't wait to use it properly. But this has been an incredibly annoying experience.
Thanks in advance.
Edit :
Problem solved. Turned out that T-Mobile's USB cable was broken, I had to use my Nokia N97's cable to connect my HD2 to my PC

Had the same issue last night when I first tried to sync my HD2. Same issues, ended up being I needed to update the Bios on my motherboard. Ironically it worked after I plugged it in and failed the driver install. Then went to Device Manager and ran update driver for the picked up devices. Works like a champ now. Hope this helps in some way.

Somehow I doubt that I will need to update my motherboard's BIOS, as my PC picks up the Nokia N97 perfectly fine. Having said that, I'm busy dling my mobo's latest BIOS right now.
Will let you know how it works out.
Edit : Nope, just as I thought. Didn't rectify the problem, thanks for your advise though.
Okay, the BIOS update scared me for a second there. I didn't revert back to the default setting after the BIOS update, which made all the USB ports malfunction on my PC. I couldn't use the keyboard nor the mouse, but I solved that problem by clearing the CMOS with a jumper.
Anyway, that's not the problem... The PC still wouldn't reconise the HD2. What I have noticed is as soon as I plug my HD2 in the USB port, HD2 automatically runs the activesync.exe
Having said that, the PC still can't identify the HD2 as an USB device. Absolutely zero response from Windows 7 x64. I've been trying to rectify this problem for over 6 hours already. I have googled dozens of pages, tried just about every single solution (bar the formatting option, which I will leave it as the absolutel final resort).
Please, can someone help me.
Gentlemen, have any of you tried a usb hub?
For the heck of it, have you tried it on a different PC? Have you tried a different cable? I am not sure what cable the N97 uses. I apologize I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, just wanted to find out if it's the handset's micro USB connection problem.

Yes, I have tried it on two different laptops, both have Win7 x86 installed.
I didn't install WMDC, instead I just plugged the HD2 in the USB port, hoping that Windows will automatically download WMDC and install everything on it's own. But alas, no luck with that either. Laptop could not detect the phone via USB cable, nor Bluetooth.
EDIT : OMG, I think I found the solution. Thanks, N1M1TZ. You actually did help me by suggesting the switch of USB cables. Since the Nokia N97 works flawlessly on my PC via USB, and the fact that both the HD2 and N97 uses the microUSB format, I was able to get the HD2 hooked up to the laptop. So it seems like T-Mobile's HD2 USB cable is the culprit. Well, it's in the bin now, I'm gonna use N97's USB cable for both of my phones in the future.
I'm glad you got it working. I had the same issue with my usb cable. Went out and purchased a replacement cable and found this ReTrak USB to micro USB cable. I have used their cables for most of my stuff from patch cord to adapters instead of my cables getting tangled or tied up together. Here's their website for more info http://www.emergeretail.com/Default.aspx

Cant connect hd2 to computer!!

this is my problem,
when i connect my hd2 it charges but the computer doesn't recognize it. on the phone settings it is set to active sync. i also have 2 computers; xp and vista, both do the same thing.
i could careless about active sync, i just want to plug my phone into my pc and transfer files in and out. ive also tried the disk drive option but still no go?
if i enter bootloader and plug it in it recognizes the usb setting but when the phone is normal, it doesn't??
it did this with the stock rom and its also doing this with nrg titanium rom.
any help would be appreciated
Same thing here.
It charges through USB but it doesnt connect.
If i choose the storage option it works fine.
I want to sync my outlook and i cant...
What the heck...?
i know this may seem a bit "it helpdesk-ish" but try re-booting your PC
Come on... give something drastic!
Already done that, rebooted the pc and the hd2...
still nothing

believe it or not i have done that mannyy times and did alot of device manager things to try and let both computers recognize the hd2 but still nothing haha..
ive had previous hd2's and they've all connected fine untill this one, maybe its this specific one thats giving me trouble. but regardless, it charges via usb then it should be able to recognize it
Check the active sync settings to ensure that usb connections are enabled. You can tell be looking at the system tray icon - there's a read circle with a white X in it if USB is disabled.
Saying that though, if it doesn't even recognise it when the device is in USB mode, I'd try a different cable. It's perfectly reasonable that the cable could power the device but not fully facilitate a USB connection.

That is very weird. Sorry mate - never heard of it doing that for anyone before.
Make sure you have the mobility center/active sync program installed on your computer. Without it it won't work.
On Vista or Seven, with the HD2 plugged in, you can find the program/drivers by launching and refreshing manually Windows Update. On XP you have to do that manually.
Good luck.
This happens to me often. In my case I have found it to be a weird driver issue. Go to device manager and look for the yellow triangle. Right click and update driver software. This worked for me I hope it helps.
bit late but just flashed maxsence and i love the look, but have allready had to restart by phone 10 times in 10 minutes. I'll wait for the next release. back to GTX for now.
Good work NRG. keep it up.
this is one of the many WM6.5 errors!
need Android soon!
Ok here we go.
The phone did not connect through activesync to my pc. When i selected to connect as mass storage it connected.
I checked for driver issues in device manager but nothing came up.
I checked the hd2's activesync. Bingo! the activesync was crashing when i was running it. I had to hard reset the phone.
Now it works fine.
My guess is that maybe a program that i installed recently was buggy and created this particular problem. Unfortunately i have about 50+ programs installed (including themes etc) and i m not sure which one it was.
I was installing all the programs again today one by one and after the install process was completed i connected the hd2 to usb to find which app was the problematic one.
After installing almost(some were found useless) all of the apps (here is the crazy part) the hd2 still was connecting through activesync....
HTC will drive me nuts...
Anyway the phone now connects correctly.
I cant understand which was the problem....
as odd as it may sound i think i figured it out.
i think its the usb cable that im using, i have to wiggle it around for it to connect to active sync but once it connects its not a stable connection as it cuts in and out.
but charging capabilities work though!
pos wire, i ordered a new wire and if that one fails also, i will have to get my hd2 replaced for faulty usb port
thanks for all the replies much appreciated
@k20a1
Try to hard reset the phone.
It worked for me.
If not again, then use your warranty!

"Disk drive" mode not working with XP laptop
HD2 is working fine with my desktop, but wit laptop I can only use ActiveSync to browse files.
When I connect the USB cable I get:
"Found new hardware wizard"
but it tells me that it Cannot Install This Harware - Disk Drive
"An error occurred during the installation of the devie The system cannot find the file specified"
And I only have "Finish" to click - if I click it the wizard lunces again immediately and goes on and on with no end.
HD"/Leo does not appare in Disk Manager (I know ablut the drive lettering issue)
I'm sure its my XP issue, but I havent found drivers to fix that, and I'm not about to reinstall XP on my lappy in near future.

I share the same here and I was despaired of trying to solve it with any logical, as well with illogical, measures. Such as: rebooting, changing usb cables, reinstalling activesync 4.5, etc.....etc...blla..blla...blla...
However, I solved the "Transfer files issue" by taking out the sd card from the HD2 and connect it with an external cards reader to my pc.
The card reader connected and works with the same usb cable that does not work with the HD2.
That way I load it with all files and in the same occasion I reload into my computer the daily spb backup files.
However, I have the feeling that the reason for that problem is a missing file/driver named: "Setup1.SPL" in the pc windows operating system.
In order to solve that it seems that only reinstalling windows on my pc will be the solution which defiantly do not like.

USB on PC not working.. tried everything in threads..

So I can't get my desktop OR laptop running XP Pro 32 to even recognize the phone. As in no audio plays and nothing appears in the system tray. Tried with/without debugging mode, installed the samsung drivers etc. The phone doesn't even show up in device manager at all- not even as something unrecognizable. Its as if the port is dead. The phone does 'ding' though and charge ok so it is receiving power... though nothing at all appears in the android notification tab when connected. Any ideas or anyone know of any apps on the pc or android side to take a closer look at whats happening on the bus?
The only way that I can get it to work is to put it in media mode. It shows up as a media device in Win7. If I put it on, "ask every time" or whatever it doesn't work and in mass storage mode it shows up as two unreadable drives, they are grayed out in Explorer... Basically...don't use the "ask every time" for USB function.
This function seems like such a simple thing, not sure why Samsung has so many issues with it considering they have been making media devices for a long time.
Anyway... do you have access to a newer OS to at least rule that out as a cause. Not saying it shouldn't work with XP 32 but just something to check out.
I was having similar issues at first. I take it adb doesn't work either? Well my fix was to delete my whole Android SDK folder, then I redownloaded it (though I just kept the "tools" folder this time). Then I downloaded "USBDeview" (google it) to delete every USB driver that had to do with android (basically just left the printers, HID, and my Sansa drivers), restarted, then I downloaded the samsung drivers from the thread on here, plugged my phone in and manually pointed the driver search to the drivers.
ADB and Mass Storage has been working fine since. All I can tell you is to keep checking cause there's something you're missing, I also thought to myself "what the heck else can I do?" since I had done each one of those steps previously, but maybe I just had to do them all together. Good luck.
another possible solution is to change cables if you're not using the samsung provided cable - some cables are charger only (no data) - some of the motorola cables are charger only and we've already had one poster that had that issue
I couldn't get it to work at first either. I more or less did this.
I plugged in my phone. I did not enable mass storage mode on my phone. Walked away and let my PC think for a while. I came back and I noticed I had two new drives. I then enabled mass storage mode and could connect.
Two of my machines I had to do this. I'm not sure why it wasn't instant, but it just took a bit of patience and walking away from the machine to let it think for a while before I guess it installed the drivers and made its peace with the fact it wasn't the G1 any more.
Say into voice dialer "Open SD card" -> check "Enable USB mass storage". That works if port on PC is OK.
If it's a driver issue, open device manager and uninstall the usb ports. Unplug everything from usb and when you reboot the computer it will automatically reinstall the usb ports.
Sent from my Vibrant
I ran into the same issue. It was a problem with the USB cable I was using. As soon as I tried a different cable it worked fine.

I second this, I forgot my sammy cable at work on Friday and on way home stopped at T-Mo and picked up a charger w/cable and realized right away this was just a charging cable as soon as I connected it to my PC. I'm returning the cable back to T-Mo tonight. At least I was able to charge my phone over the weekend.
UPDATE: You guys are right, it is the goddamn cables! I bought an extra wall charger + cable at the t-mobile store and was using that at home. I had left the original in-box cable at work. Tried the cable at work today and now the drives pop up. Still don't appear writeable but I can look into that when I have time, probably the typical driver issue. As far as I can tell those separate cables are power only! $15 for a two wires + dc adapter. Thanks Samsung. Grr.
i suspect the mfgrs have gone to charge only cables to help keep folks from tethering - just a suspicion
if the "drives" are popping up, have you "mounted" the phone (pull down notification bar, clik on USB connected and it should give you a window asking to mount the cards or drive)
FYI....The Rocketfish cables you get from Best Buy do not work. They are only capable of charging.
@larryccf...I don't think certain manufacturers are implementing this on purpose so we can't tether. I think their just being cheap.
Where I got my cables on the cheap! and my problem.
I got my cable at monoprice.com. Check it out that is a 10 foot usb cable for $1.69 and it works for me. They have different lengths and even some colors. Now my Mass Storage issue . . .
My Mass Storage via USB works fine unless I enable "USB Debugging" which one of my apps needs to work. Once debugging is enabled I loss the ability to see my sd card and internal storage on my XP netbook. any ideas????
Same Problem
I have the exact issue, tried many things have'nt found a fix yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,
crx

Yes phone is mounted, and can be seen w/o usb debugging enabled. However with usb/debugging on it does not read the phone being connected. Meaning that I cannot connect to ADB which is my main concern.

If you are running windows (x86 or x64), it would be wise to install the samsung drivers. I was having this exact problem, but as soon as I installed the drivers from samsung, viola!
I had the latest drivers from google, and they did not work for me.
Here is a link to the thread containing the links to the drivers, thanks to TGA_Gunnman:

[Q] USB Mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting

I'm a noob, not sure where else to get help on this site about my problem... I'm using a ASUS Notebook K53E Series laptop computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1... I'm using a HDMI to project onto a HD TV I have a USB keyboard and mouse hooked up, both Logitech... The problem I'm having is, both the mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting on me... The mouse will go first' I'll move it from one USB port to the other, and it will work, but then stop working again... The keyboard will just stop working, even if I move it I can't get it to reconnect... I have to shutdown my computer to get everything to start working again, but it will only last about a half hour before they stop working again after the reboot... I've went into the device manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers > Generic USB Hub > properties > Power Management, and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power... This does not help... I then uninstalled it, and rebooted my computer, still doesn't help... I then tried to system restore, I couldn't because I had no restore points, I have no idea why I didn't... I then look if there was any system updates, there was, but minor updates, I updated them anyways, still no go... I'm only having problems with the USB mouse and keyboard... My laptop touch pad and everything else works fine...:fingers-crossed:
... why are you looking for help here? This isn't a tech support forum, it's a dev&hacking forum. It's also not a Win7 forum... there are better places on the Internet to ask for Win7 support! Asus themselves would be a more logical choice, for example.
You could try checking the Event Logs for any abnormal USB events, but I don't really know. Are there any other mice / keyboards you could try, or could you try the ones you have on another computer? Does it work at all to just unplug the mouse/keyboard and plug it in again? Do the devices lose power (lights go out) or do they simply stop responding correctly? Do other USB devices (phone, camera, webcam, headset, flashdrive, whatever) keep on working if you leave them plugged in for a while?

Sorry, like I said I'm a noob... The reason I asked here, because I thought it was a general question for windows OS... I do understand its windows 8 tho... I also didn't want to join some random site to get my answer... I also checked event logs, but I'm not sure how to use it... I have no other computers or mice/ keyboards to test with... The lights stay on, like their still connected, but they don't work... I've pulled them out, and plugged them back in, and even put them in other USB ports... But they will only work for a short while after moving them to a new USB port... They will no longer work in the same port after they stop working until I reboot... I'm also not sure if it's ASUS or Logitech thats the problem...

No option to change to file transfer when connected to PC

Good Morning All,
I had a quick question. When I connect my pixel Xl to my Windows 10 pc I get the drop down android system option to change from USB charging to file transfer.
On my Essential when I connect it makes the noise where windows notices it but on my phone I don't have the option to change from charging to file transfer.
I'm sure it is something I am missing but would appreciate any input. I believe it is a driver issue as my other windows 10 laptop recognizes it and I am able to change to the transfer files option.
I checked device manager and it is not showing up under portable devices.
Thanks
On my HTC 10, you can make the change manually by going to Settings>>More(last option under Wireless and networks)>>USB connection

Yeah, I was thinking there was a way in developer options as well, but I don't have my cable with me so it wasn't showing up.
I have an older laptop that makes the "recognition noise/ring" when I plug in my phone, but it takes like 2-3 minutes before the screen pops up asking what I want to do with it. Don't know if that could be your issue, but you may try just letting it sit for a few before unplugging it and see if that changes anything.
Or, it could be just like you say, bad driver.

It is usbc and only have one.
I plug my pixel in on the same port and it shows up in portable devices. With the essential plugged in my computer makes the noise that it is connected but it does not show up any where in device manager.
I uninstalled the driver with my pixel plugged in and re plugged in the essential still no go. I plugged in the essential and the driver was installed. It is strange as it shows up under my other windows 10 pc just fine.
I had the same problem and I eventually got it to work by using a USB A to C cord, not my usbc port on my laptop.
Had the same issue last night, turns out for me my computer recognized the phone and used the adb interface driver, had to go into device manager, Uninstall the driver associated with my essential phone, and then replug the phone in for it to be accessible via mtp

I also noticed that it didn't work in a USB 2.0 port for me, only in a 3.0 port. And my front facing 3.0 port on my desktop that I use for flash drives didn't work either, so not sure if there is some long cable signal integrity issue there, but USB 3.0 port was the only way I got it recognized via my computer
I did use this USB Device Viewer from Microsoft and found that it is showing up with this error.
Though not sure how I'm supposed to resolve it. https://imgur.com/w1tz12s
It is at least showing that it is connected.
Maybe I'm not understanding but on mine when I plug into PC the pull down menu shows charging and then I tap on that and get a menu that has file transfer and 3 others and I select file transfer. Have you tried that?
