Water Damage - Quick Question - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I just got a 8525 today and want to make sure there is no water damage to it.
When you take off the battery cover, to the right of the camera there is a white circle that reads 'VOID' on it in read. Does this mean it has had water damage (hence void), or does it mean that if that white circle turns all pink, then it has had water damage?
My last phone had water damage, but it had a little white section that just got a bunch of pink dots on it after damage. Void is written pretty neatly, so I am assuming no damage has been done and it should be ok.
I just wanted to check with other 8525 owners and make sure that is what it should say.

thats not a waterdamage sticker to the best of my knowledge, theres a screw underneath it.

Thanks - phone seems to work fine and everything works as it should (except for the keyboard - it seems the layout internally doesn't match with the keys on the keyboard, but there probably is a thread regarding this) - just a few nicks on the outside.

at&t rep trying to convince me phone has water damage...

ever since i told her the sticker was white though slightly pink if you look closely. now she said that i could do an exchange but if the sticker wasn't white enough i'd get charged some absurd ammount. how reliable are these stickers anyway, and if it's pinkish tint i maybe should not have mentioned is an actual indication of exposure to water and not just that there is some pink pigment in there somewhere, cuz really, now that i inspect it, the pinkishness has a poke-a-dot pattern as if if it was made that way rather than it got wet and washed itself over with it's pink pigment.
anyone have experience/knowledge on this issue? to me this doesn't look like water damage.
here's the dilemma: a customer's phone is within warranty and doesn't work and they don't know if it is because of water damage or not but of course they want to get an exchange if they are entitled to one. without the expert knowledge to determine if the phone's warranty has been voided how is he/she supposed to find out the answer without taking the risk of being charged for the replacement. i know for a fact the phone hasn't been exposed to water but i don't know what the heck this sticker is telling me if anything at all.
so please, people with this phone, please report your comparisons of this sticker under the sim card to mine. is it completely chalk white or can you detect a faint pink poke-a-dot pattern? thanks

Mine too is faintly pink dots on it and it has not been exposed to water. However I live in a VERY high humidity state (Georgia) so that could be the cause. Maybe something like that happened, which if true is not your fault at all.
Good Luck -let us know how it goes
mine is light pink and has never been exposed to water.... it has been in a highly humid enviornment before for about 2 days, Hawaii
so, i dont know what the warranty states about water dammage and the stickers...
mine is all white
Completely white, has been in humid environments....ive used it with wet hair and allsorts.
Unfortunatly the pink sticker issue isnt negotiable ive had to deal with that sort of problem before. The warranty guidelines the workshops have to go by will not budge
That white sticker (with the pink stripe/dot) is absolutely normal.
If that sticket got wet or soaked in water, that sticker would turn Blue.
When they ask you about the sticker, just tell them its white..(and dont mention the pink/red stripe as that is normal)
wow, thanks for all of your input. i've talked to at&t reps in person and they also tell me two different things. it's stupid that they don't allow you send your bad phone in before they send you the replacement to evaluate if it's warranty has been voided by water damage rather than sending you the replacement first without the option of returning it if they happen to consider your phone to be water damaged. and obviously with all the different responses ive gotten to this issue, it's difficult for one to determine on their own if their phone's warranty has been voided or not by possibly slight water damage.
anyway, i finally found one guy in town who actually repairs phones and he said that only in extreme cases where it's obvious the phone has been exposed to liquid would they void the warranty but of course he couldn't guarantee that but that if my phone were his he would definately send it back. well before i take that chance, last night i just reinstalled the OS and radio from HTC which i think i've already done before but have done again and this time i won't be installing any more programs until the phone proves to work fine then i'll install them all one by one to rule out the possibilities for each one causing my phone to not be able to establish a signal, and ultimately causing my phone to lock up. wish me luck!
ive drowned a phone or two before and even though it still worked it caused a few hicups with it here and there so i returned it....AFTER swapping the sticker from another phone
clever. i actually thought about that, not to get over on em, but just because i'm afraid they'd get over on me even though mine hasn't been exposed to water.

Little Community Help - Needs Pics of your surround without the back cover

Will keep this short.. Bought two Windows Phone 7 devices since launch.. One Focus and One Surround.. I use the Focus and my son (who is 16) has the Surround.. A few days after purchase of the Surround it would lockup on him every couple of days.. Today it will not boot completely.. Hard Reset does not clear the issue. Today is day 29 so I went to AT&T Store and was denied claiming the phone has water damage.. The water damage indicators are white but have the words void in red.. I was pretty sure this is how the phone shipped (with the words "void" present in red). The battery water damage indicator is "still" white and there is NO visible damage to screen or any other part of the phone..
For the record: I am pretty sure my son has NOT exposed this phone to water. He has had two iPhones (3G and 3GS) always keeps his Phones, XBOX 360 and Computer in great condition (cannot say the same for the rest of his room). Not to mention, before the Smartphone days he dropped his cheap phone in water and told me right away (cause he knows I will find out the truth).
I search the web and found several reviewer images that show the same white stickers with the words void in red.
If I am correct the white stickers will turn black when exposed to water or moisture.
Can a few of you post images of the back of your Surround with NO cover? I am gathering proof for my battle at the store tomorrow. :-D

I can't post images but I too have 2 screwholes covered by white stickers with the word void in red.
Those void stickers are only for the screws not water damage... The water damage indicator is down toward the bottom on the board. Hope this helps... Have them show you a comparison to a surround they have in stock.
Good Luck!
Agreeing again - 2 screws are covered by white "tamper" stickers with a red "VOID" printed on them.
The actual Liquid Damage stickers are right by the batter contacts (all white) and on the battery itself (all white).
Thanks Guys.. :-D
I "knew" the stickers were not water damage indicators but this acting manager did not.. She refused to pull one from stock, so being unprepared I left to gather evidence..
I found several images on the web and combined with your comments she "backed down" the next day but failed to give an apology. She thought all damage indicators were similar to iPhone (what a joke).. :-O
I have filing a complaint with Distict Management as this horrible excuse for a manager nearly screwed me out of 250.00.. :-\

[Q] Replacement Phone Options, Battery w/ Water Damage?

My MT4G's speaker blew out for no apparent reason. I was on virtuous fusion 1.1.8 and the unity kernel v1. I've performed a factory wipe and have restored to stock rom but the problem persists which leads me to believe it's a hardware problem.
Unfortunately, I just noticed that my battery has signs of water/moisture damage (pink hash marks on white tab) even though it's never fallen into a water source before. I work out with my phone in my pocket so I suspect it could be from sweat moisture. Any suggestions on the cheapest way to get my phone replaced under warranty?
Should I go through T-mobile or HTC? Would it be wise to get a replacement battery w/ a clean white tab before pursuing a warranty replacement? I've noticed there's a circular white tab on the bottom right hand side of the battery compartment on the phone itself and that has not changed colors, although I'm not sure if that's a water indicator tab or not...
Advice is greatly appreciated!

You can go through TMOBILE. If the PHONE does not have water damage (The sticker is WHITE) you can go through them. They will send THE PHONE ONLY. You will keep the battery, back and all other accessories.
When I was talking to a Tmobile rep, he asked me if the battery had any indication of water damage. Since I was on the same phone and needed to remove the battery to check, I hung up and checked and found out it does.
When I call back to Tmobile, should I say just say no if they ask me again if the battery has water damage? I don't want to be "flagged" for water damage if I don't have to and if I won't be sending in the battery. I guess my question is really if that white circular tab on the battery compartment is really a water damage indicator. If it is, I'll feel a lot more comfortable because it is still all white.
Here is the pic of my battery:

Do the red X's on my battery mean the indicator has been tripped? TIA!

I have the red x on my batteries too. And neither were exposed to water. As long as the device sticker is WHITE and hasn't been water damaged, tell them no. They will send you a refurbished device and you will keep the battery, back, and accessories.
Thank you!

Water Damage Indicators?

Hi guys, just going to RMA my phone for faulty volume rocker (intermittently stops working for periods of a few hours and then randomly starts working again), however a week ago I spilled some coffee over my device, it was in a silicone case at the time which I think helped a little in stopping coffee getting here, there and everywhere. I'm fairly certain the issue isn't water damage related as that was over a week ago and the phone has been working perfectly up until a couple of days ago. I took the back of the nexus 4 off to inspect for any coffee that may have gotten in there and caused the issue but it was dry as a bone with not a coffee stain in sight.
Just wondering if there are any water damage indicators on the phone that may show that coffee has been spilled on it? I have heard the white strip on the inside of the sim card slot is an indicator, mine is still white so if it is then it hasnt triggered that one, any others that I should know of? Just double checking before I RMA and they try and say its due to water damage then charge me. Any info is much appreciated, thanks.

Umm the indicator can only be seen when you take out the sim tray, there's a tiny tiny strip visible on the bottom (inside the sim slot), and that's the indicator. Red = water. White = nothing
Edit, Oh just read your full post.. So you know about the sim one, heh..
But yeah as far as we know, that's the only indicator, however, its not fully visible when you're looking at it through the sim card slot, but if you do RMA it, they'll take it apart thus seeing the whole strip, and part of the strip may show water damage.

Hmm if you look through the taredown of the N4
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781/2
It seems there are two indicators on the mobo protective plastic plating.. Cant be too sure though.
Since its so easy to open the N4 ( no screws), in my opinion it would be best just to take off the back, and make sure those two white squares are clear, and if not.. Just bleach them out

Just cracked it open again and those indicators are also white, there is a red dot on the far left but im 99.9% positive thats red pen as other parts are marked in red pen inside the phone (random parts on the ifixit link phone were marked in pen also). I've attached a pic to show.

Yeah, should be fine And I'm also sure thats a random mark, water indicators are normally a more vibrant tint of red.
Good luck with the RMA :good:

Sticker behind battery !!?

Well, just now, I did a battery pull (for no real reason) and under the battery in the lower right hand corner appears to be a sticker. This is outlined by two lines that form an "L". Now what is really concerning is that the sticker appears to be pink. From everything I know about those water damage indicators, if this is in fact a water damage indicator sticker, they are supposed to be white.
I've had this phone for a week..and it has not even been in a humid room or anything, so somebody please tell me I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing.
What color is your sticker that I referenced above?

The water damage indicator is actually under the 2 copper prongs by the camera. What you are referring to is actually copper. Try looking at it in direct light and see if you can tell. Hope this helps.
