Is it possible to create a Polaris Rom with Diamond drivers? - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hello
I have no idea about ROM-cooking, so no idea, if this is possible:
I wonder, if anyone has noticed this great new cooked ROM for the Kaiser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395555
It has Ati drivers from HTC Diamond integrated, which give it some acceleration in DirectDraw. (Don't know, if they affect Direct3D also.)
The graphics score in this thread is the highest, I have ever seen for a Kaiser.
For Polaris, I have found no accelerated ROM...
This ROM also contains actualized (and in my oppinion great looking) versions of the HTC apps.
I wanted to ask if it is possible to create such a Rom for the Polaris too, and if one of the cooks here is willing to do so, or even to port this ROM...

it's probably possible, the problem is that most of the chefs that cook for the cruise, is prioritizing other phones over it, so it will probably take a while.

No, it is not possible.
I tried do do so, but it is impossible to port the drivers without great efforts in hacking them.
The Kaiser's accelerations is also not due to Diamond drivers but because HTC's optimizations in the new official Kaiser ROMs.
So, unfortunately, forget about it. We have to wait until HTC releases an official ROM for us like they did for the Kaiser.

Why flash a ROM?

I'm just curious, why do you guys flash your ROM? doesn't it cause problems later on? I know some people say it is faster but does a fragment of speed merit the change?
No offence to ROM developers, I've flashed my ROM but the question is merely there for speculation and to get the Polaris forum a little more active.
In my case:
1) I hate localized software (though I'm neither English, nor German)
2) Don't like branded ROMs - they're usually loaded with lots of crap and are slower (thank god I don't have an Eten - they come with trialware !!! )
3) Usually a newer ROM is better and more stable, and operators like O2 release ROM updates only once/twice per year...
4) It is fun (Well, not fully, since you have to reinstall all software after reflashing )

Simple answer: Why not ? ;-)
In fact, flashing the ROM of his device mainly give the opportunity to have much better device than the original. A good example is the HTC Touch (ELF). Even if customers have report numerous of problem, HTC haven't yet issued a ROM update for the French ROM. This is a good example and answer to your question "why flashing a ROM".
Polaris is a brand new device. We can expect a reaction from HTC (if they react) in the next months. During this time, you've the choice to
1. Live with the bugs until HTC decide (if they) to fix it
2. Use a cocked ROM to make your device (much-much-much) better
Of course, Flashing a ROM is always at risk for the user. Example with mine. I've ordered a Polaris in French. Actually the official French ROM isn't available. If I've a problem with my device, the warranty is down because I've flashed my device with an unsupported ROM.
On top of this, flashing is (for me) a nasty game ;-) It is dangerous but I like it !
I have noticed a performance increase with Hermes but I don't know whether this can be true for Polaris? Is the difference major?
If it is, warranty or not, I'll flash...

Of course the Difference is always NOTICEABLE because its meant to make your device function a lot better in more ways than what comes with the original ROM's.

With the Bepe ROM the Polaris is 1.5 tome more faster (surely due to the Windows Mobile 6.1 layer).
And, for a "preview" as Bepe say, I find this really stable. Of course, things can always be better. For this, we have to be patient or...
...learn on how to cook ... ;-)
I subjectively feel a quite noticeable speed improvement with the WWE ROM over the previously default German O2 Orbit 2 ROM. I noticed (and htcclassaction is big on that) a high impact on TomTom. TomTom worked alot smoother on the O2 ROM.
But I dont mind that, so I'm happily waiting for a HTC or cooked German replacement ROM while using the WWE on my Orbit 2.

Newbie question about HTC Official ROMs

Hi,
I'm quite new to these forums and new to the HTC world. It's good to see such an active community (compared to my previous FDC Loox device).
I see there has been a great deal of work to update to WM6.1.
What I wanted to find out is - historically speaking - how likely is it for HTC to issue an official WM 6.1 ROM for the Polaris ?
I expect the more experienced HTC users amoungst you would be familiar with what they've issued in the past. Do they tend to stick to one WM version for any given device ?
And a second point, if a WM6.1 is issued for a newer device, could this be retro-flashed to the Polaris ?
I'm just trying to decide whether I should go for one of the hacked versions here, or hold on until HTC release something.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone ?
i say go with what you find here.
chances are the official version will contain a lot of things that you won't use and use up a lot of space.

A new ROM Omnia Style ???

I'd like to know if anybody is interested in a ROM Omnia Style ???
I'm not able to cook and so i'd like to know if any cookers think to make it
seems to be quiet here.. yea.. i would like the omnia type one too. too bad the screens are different.

Thanks but i'm italian
I would love a omnia rom but we should wait for the 3d drivers first.....
Oh...I see!
Well I agree...an Omnia style ROM would be nice. I was battling between getting Cruise and Omnia before i purchased the Cruise.

HTC has said they're not moving forward in that area, because...
"HTC DOES plan to offer software upgrades that will increase feature functionality, over the air wireless speeds and other enhancements for some of the phones being criticized, but we do not anticipate including any additional support for the video acceleration issues cited in customer complaints. It is important for customers to understand that bringing this functionality to market is not a trivial driver update and requires extensive software development and time.
HTC will utilize hardware video acceleration like the ATI Imageon in many upcoming products. Our users have made it clear that they expect our products to offer an improved visual experience, and we have included this feedback into planning and development of future products." [according to HTC]
i think so,htc had given up to upgrades.
plugins of Omnia is too large.almost 35M,I dont think its useful
actually if you look through that omnia thread there are cabs whoch are small like 9mb that is what I am running and it works great except for the mplayer which they are still working on. The 3D drivers....I was talking about in this forum udk is working on it I do beleive.
ol,seems that i make a mistake.
hope 3d drivers coming soon.

[QUESTION] Does the Blackstone implement the graphic drivers ?

Hi everyone,
I'm aware of the HTC graphical driver issues on theirs phones. I saw the benchmarks results of the Kaiser, Polaris, ... and they're sooooo poor compared to the Nokias' and iPhone's ones. That's so bad according to the possibilities of the hardware of these phones !
I also saw that HTC responded to HTCClassAction in January saying they're goin to implement the right drivers from that moment. It seems that("s not what happened.
I'm considering buying a HTC Touch HD aka Blackstone and I wish to know what I should expect from it. Does it implement the right driver ? I mean does it support hardware acceleration ?
I'm sad to say that but I have a KS20 which doesn't support PocketHAL and PointUI and I'm seriously considering buying an iPhone even if I HATE Apple's politics...
Can someone give me a straight and definitive answer about the Qualcomm/ATI driver support on the Blackstone ?? Or tell if there is an unofficial way to implement them through an alternative ROM or a simple CAB ?
Thanks a lot !

Are you asking from a purely technical/developer's point of view, or are you asking if the HD's graphic performance is better?
Well both in a way.
Technically speaking first coz I want to know what could work on the Blackstone from a PocketHAL UI like PoitUI to a full OpenGL ES game.
And in a second time if there is some evolutions since the Kaiser, Polaris or Diamond.
But first of all. It aksed a binary answer (yes or no) : does HTC had implemented a hardware acceleration or is it still a Microsoft software rendering ?
THANKS

nobody knows ?
It has hardware 3d acceleration of opengl es and mobile directx, but it implementation isn't as good as it could be i believe. I am no expert, and this info is what I have gleaned from these forums. Touchflo 3D uses hardware acceleration.
I have tried the game 'Toy Golf' on my phone, and it runs with accelerated graphics which appear smooth, but unfortunatley most of the rendering is corrupt or missing. I am not aware of any other 3D games to try.

Samsung Omnia II rom running on HTC HD2

Is it possible to run the Samsung Omnia II rom on the HTC HD2. I see a lot of posts that the Omnia runs the HD2 rom but is it possible to run the Omnia rom on a HD2.
It's impossible to run OmniaII ROM on HD2 and vice versa, but is possible to cook EXT packages from OmniaII to HD2 and vice versa.

Most probably, the power of HD2 would improve the O2 system quite nicely.
I doubt that any cook would make such an attempt... but who knows.
A mix between Samsung´s WinMo mods and Manila could be quite interesting...

A port of the new Omnia II touch player would be great (and not to forget, dutch language for Swype.... )
Is there a dump somewhere of the omnia II rom?
Over at modaco, there are quite a few ROM dumps available, I think.
However, I don´t know if Swype is on European devices, though - at least, it is not on the latest "official" ROM version, as far as I can see.
Some of the apps are available as cab, but they don´t run on an HD2, only with a few exceptions (such as Power Calculator).
