HTC Stereo Handsfree with Volume Control - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

Hey guys, I got a product for review that I thought was really cool.. not only is it a 3.5mm adapter but it turns any headset into a handsfree kit as well. and it's cheap, from my time with it I've found it seems to be good quality and should last quite a while..
While the title is 'HTC', it's not an HTC branded product.. just can be used for them..

Snippet:
"The HTC Stereo Handsfree with Volume Control is from our friends at USBFever and it's really three things in one, a mini-USB to 3.5mm jack adapter, volume control and a microphone. This little gadget essentially lets you turn any headphones or earbuds you have into a handsfree setup. There are many choices out there for handsfree sets but really most have sub-par headphones included with them, and it's usually only one earpiece, with this gadget from USBFever you get to use your own headset. Being able to use any headset is very nice indeed, also you can get this for about $15.00 shipped to you from USBFever, so not only is it very useful but very inexpensive and well worth it..."

Sorry if someone thinks this is spam or whatever, but I get quite a few things for review for my AT&T Tilt and there are a few that really stand out as being useful and this is one of them that I thought I could share

That looks pretty interesting. I was looking into buying the Seidio version, which has one of those spring-wound cords, making cable management easier. That being said, I like the button layout and clip mechanism on this one more... I think these are much better than the regular USB to miniplug adapters though, as it means you can essentially make your own earphones/buds a 'headset' thanks to the built in mic. In-line volume control is also a godsend...

I had one of those in the box, arent they standard ?

No, that's ok.. just curious.. but it's just like the TytnII all kinds of stuff comes with it, but nothing comes with the Tilt, even though it's basically the same phone
don't know why ATT decided no to include the same things, it's the same price
well I guess I do know why, money..

I thought the Tilt came out to be cheaper, unless service charges add up to the same price eventually...
The only thing I don't like about both the Seidio and this one is that because the USB connector end is L shaped the stylus becomes harder to remove and insert while this is in use. The straight ones, on the other hand, have a tendency to dislodge and/or break eventually. I think I'm going to go with the Seidio one though, even though it costs around 3 times the price, mainly because of the spring loaded cable control mechanism.

The stylus clears the jack fine for me, the end is flexible and just bends out of the way.. as for retractable, I personally don't like those retractable cables that much especially for something like this.
I've got the retractable Boxwave mini-sync cables and those are fine for that use but I don't care for them when used like this, it's too easy for you to pull on it accidentally and it to spring back in

That makes absolute sense... now you've got me reconsidering what to purchase... any chance of finding one of these on Amazon? I need international shipping to be specific, as I live in Turkey.
While obviously due to the direct connection the volume on these is bound to be better than a bluetooth headset (which is what I currently use and also why I want a wired headset), does the in-line volume control degrade the volume or quality even at its highest setting? I ask because I used to own a headset that I used on my PC with an in-line volume dial and even at maximum volume, I could tell the difference between one with in-line volume control and a headset without one...

USBFever sent it to me for review, and they run all items with $2.99 shipping worldwide, so I assume that means $2.99 to Turkey as well
so it's $12.99 + $2.99 Shipping = $15.98
http://www.usbfever.com
direct link: http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=301
as for volume, I personally don't crank it to the max but I hadn't noticed any distortion, I used it for about 6 hours yesterday actually while working outside my house and did have it up loud to help drown up noise, but not to the max setting... as for the two separate volumes you need to adjust each one independently of the other, like I would set the inline to max and then adjust my phone itself to comfortable max volume, and then I can lower and raise the volume in line without problems

Out of curiosity, what else have you got that could be of use to Kaiser users out there?

What do I have? or what have I reviewed? I don't sell anything.. I review many types of products and since I got the Tilt/Kaiser I got a bit of stuff for that for review as well..
The stuff I got was from Boxwave, USBFever and Krusell so far for review, with more hopefully on the way
The ones I've posted so far can be found on my site HERE under 'Mobile Related Products' if you're interested. The top eight are the ones related to the Kaiser
I've got a few more yet to post as well, got the Krusell Orbit with Multidapt for car, another cool little mini-usb adapter, it's got three connections on it, and I've got one of the Tri-Force style styli from Krusell

Youve got some great reviews, mods and whatnot up there on your site, I'll have to spend a weekend going through it , and nice links as well. Congrats on a thoroughly well-done job there...

Is Athena Pocketable?

As some of you already have the Athena, can you please comment on the size of it? A huge decision whether or not I buy this incredible device is whether or not I can fit this in my pocket.
I am not asking whether or not it is comfortable to wear in side jeans/pants pocket or if it looks dorky, but rather want to know whether it does or not. If someone could take pics of it in pocket, that would be really cool.
I am sure others have the same question.
Thanks.

personally, i think if you mind the size, then don't get it, it is a fact that this device is the biggest PDA or Phone ever, so if you mind the size, think very hard for it.
In the other hand, if you just want lots of function and good spec for this device (like me), then this device is for you.
I personally only want it for technical and professional uses only. My BT headset is the way to go ^^... If you are looking only for a phone/incoming/outgoing calling purpose then this is not it. This is a Pocket PC with built in quad band and GSM SIM whatever you know. So if you are lookin for some bling bling nice lookin phone go for motorrola or nokia or maybe even lg prada or smaller. You are in the wrong place if you lookin for flip phones and other stuff. Well personally i think the smallest phone is my BT headset. All i do is keep the athena in the pocket or in my briefcase and it is powered by a huge battery and doesnt heat up since backlight is off. So i just recieve and make calls using the BT Headset... its truly the bling bling. Plus i dont carry my laptop because i have my Athena (smallest laptop). So there we go Athena + headset is truly a bling bling ^^ where style matters.
I am a techie and like all the functions it has. I do not care so much for smallness, I currently have a TYTN and think its not big at all.
HTC's website says its truly pocketable, but many people say the opposite.
Just trying to understand the size in context to a pocket.
FYI - I would use a BT headset.
Thanks

If you dont want the screen to break dont put it in your pocket. Simple. You are kinda bending the device by putting it into your pocket. Since most of use wear Jeans or Khakis/Pants... it is really not comfortable in the pocket. Imagine some 6 inch book in your pocket. exactly it feels weird! also you are bending the device in your pocket atleast in the jeans unless you decide to put it in the shirt pocket... gawd too many pockets. anyways there is a 60% chance that the screen will break in your pocket. Just a warning.
I found this on the internet, while obsessively searching google for Athena/U1000/Advantage/Ameo Pictures.

You would not want it to vibrate so close to the Micro Drive anyway..not a good idea over time.
BTW, unless you wear skin tight Jeans, it will fit into the front pocket of that too. I do it, and even drive with it in my pocket...not uncomfortable at all.
Don't use supplied case with it though, as the extra thickness will change things.

I'm also still considering if I could live the size of the device before buying it.
I would also like to put it in my pocket, because I do not carry along a briefcase. Given the bulk of the keyboard and leather case, I would like to leave them at home, and rely on the protection skin mentioned by one of you guys. I don't mind looking foolish when answering the phone call with a brick like device, so I will not use a BT headset, as that means extra thing to carry.
The only questions that still bother me is whether or not I could easily lower the volume when answering call, and whether or not I can without the keyboard answer, make, reject, redial, and terminate call.
Could anyone enlighten me on this?
The actual picture to compare
This is the picture where U can compare it to the Universal (mine )
Picture taken at CeBIT show this year....
I've still got my Exec and I do miss the more responsive keyboard and numeric row, but I am getting used to the layout of the Ameo's keyboard and its shortcomings. It's a little annoying that it doesn't follow most of the rules of normal keyboards like the Exec does, but I've also found when I have the phone in tablet mode (without the kb) the larger-buttoned version of the on-screen keyboard does the job quite well and I can even compose texts or emails in almost the same time as on the Exec.
These kind of phones are never primarily about convenience and it's a price you have to pay for the many advantages and extra things they can do.

2-in-1 mini USB and 3.5mm Stereo Audio Multi-Adapter Review

Hello, im here to review the *title*.
Lets start off with the sound quality over the supplied headset.
-I get the EXACT same sound quality as i do with an ipod. (Using my own earphones).
-For deeper comparison, using my own earphones vs the one that came with the kaiser...
On the scale of 1-10, 10 being quality from an ipod
(Since sound quality varies on quality of earphones)
Bass
Supplied headset: 2
My earphones: 10
Crispness and Sound quality:
Supplied headset: 6
My earphones: 10
Now for the product(took images with my kaiser!)

Pros and Cons:
+You can sync, charge, and use stereo earphones.
+The Adapter doesn't dangle because its a direct connect.
+Ports open left of the kaiser, whereas its originaly down(Without adapter) for better comfortability when using the keyboard.(Isn't it awkward using the keyboard while syncing/charging?)
+ITS ONLY 6 USD!!!! Thats what? a double quarter pounder with cheese?
+FITS perfectly on the supplied HTC POUCH(Seriously it does, i dont have an extra camera to show you guys)
-You cant use supplied headphone + stereo headphones at the same time! (Ports are different, See pic)
-Once plugged in, Kaiser takes the adapter as earphones (even without any earphones plugged in), so you wont be able to use the speaker.
And i got it from Amazon.com, was suprised how fast it shipped to California, came next day.
http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-...ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1192248171&sr=8-1
got a question:
When you plug in 3.5mm headphones, is the sound clear? because if i use my old Imate Jam as an example, i used a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable and i had to wiggle it until i found the 'sweet spot' where the sound is what it's supposed to be, and if i was out of the 'sweet spot' then the sound is muffled. Do you have the same problem with this adapter or not?
Well it doesnt use a cable, which is AWESOME.(So there isnt a "sweet spot" due to wire defects)
As for the sound it equals to the sound of a mp3 player(ipod, zune, etc).
So it really depends on the type of earphones you use.
This was how i tested it:
My earphones on kaiser compared to My earphones on ipod. They equal.
Then, Supplied earphones on kaiser compared to My earphones on kaiser. Huge Difference in quality.

Thanks! and i'm guessing that the quality of your headphones with adapter>>>>supplied headphones?
MP3 Play time?
Has anyone by any chance tested how long Kaiser/Tilt can play MP3's with/without any other functions ON (in flight mode for example) on one fully charged battery?
I just got one of these. Came out to around $10 after shipping. Kind of expensive.
Also got a 2 usb port to car charger. Figure I'd use one for my ipod and the other for the phone. I'm assuming that the irregular miniusb port on the htc is to accomodate the 3.5mm, and that I can use a conventional miniusb for charging.

Or this http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=150195
I confirm that on my Kaiser..the Motorola charger works fine on the Kaiser. This is probably the most reason why people also assume that the stereo adapter from the Motorola SLVR or L7 or any model would work fine. However the pin is supposed to be 11pins so you would need a different one. You can find one from the xda-developers shop or on ebay or amazon.com at around $5 +shipping would make it $10
Thanks guys for all the replys. Everything is clear now.

Be aware though that these don't seem to work on all roms, on Dutty's from the 16th it just works as a headphone adapter for me, the remote doesn't function :-(
I've tried a few of the HTC audio drivers to no avail, a few needed hard resets to recover from (yes I know most of the cabs are for different models but... ).
If you just want a headphone adapter a cheap ebay one would be the best option and use the rest of the money towards some decent headphones.
G
I'm using this one, it works fine. You can charge or sync while using the audio output.

Just thought you might want to know you can get that headset off ebay for like £15 delivered!
Thats what I'm going to do when I get paid, its from Hong Kong so a couple of weeks for delivery but its half the price!
Here's a shop whos selling it if you want one, they seem identical just have Dopod wrote on them instead of HTC!

Just bought this one:
It looks better than the one above.
Note: The above one will not work correctly

Junk!!!
Any other long term suggestions?

The problem is that I bet your plastic came loose around the miniUSB part, so just pull it out a bit and apply super glue around it and then it should fit snug and you won't have to wiggle it in and keep it pushed.
The plastic at what part
What plastic part?
Are you talking about the plastic on the adaptor or the phone? I would like to get this fixed.
Thanks
I had bought that big one with the three outs before, totally sucked for my kaiser, had to push it down for it to work, then I bought the simple seidio one, miniUSB to 3.5, and works flawlessly. For those wanting to connect decent headphones to it and not having a big piece of plastic with three outs that you ain't gonna use, I recommend the seidio one
charging capability while using the headsets
I agree …The simpler the better. BUT I like the charging capability while using the headsets.!!!
Thanks
Mine just arrived. I love it so far. No problems.
@stress_analyst
Did you check and see if your USB port on your Kaiser is out of place? Because that could cause you to wiggle it before it gets a good connection.

Cradle For Fuze/Raphael With HTC's ExtUSB?

I want to charge my phone, eyeball the stock reports, sync with my PC and listen to my music while at my desk. A cradle would be perfect, I'd think. What I can't tell from all these cradle manufacturers is if they connect with the full HTC 11-pin ExtUSB connector or just the mini-USB connector. If they had a real ExtUSB connector, I could plug the (bulky) audio/charge adapter INTO THE CRADLE, then my headphones into that.
I was looking at something like the Fuze cradle at:
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/
Does anyone own a Raphael cradle with a ExtUSB connector or know if something like that exists? You'd be able to tell if when you drop your Raphael in the cradle, plug the headphone/charge adapter into the cradle, you can hear music through the headphones.
Thanks!
Well. Go to expansys-usa and find the cradles. Some are expensive, like the original HTC cradle which is around $40, and some are cheap like the expansys one (Don't remember price). Both have extUSB and have a 3.5mm in behind the cradle.
I just received the HTC Cradle to use with my Fuze in the office.
It looks awesome! Charges, syncs and plays music.
It has caused me two problems, however.
1. I need a bigger Micro SD to put music on my Fuze as this set-up will definitely replace having the iPod docked and playing.
2. I had to sign up for DashWire so I could receive and send text messages via my PC - and not have to remove the Fuze from the dock.

That HTC cradle is OK? Has it a slot for 2nd battery?
Dig the look of the second one but $100 for 2 cradles (office and home isn't that funny).
very similar to (or perhaps it exactly IS) expansyv's "deluxe" cradle, but relatively cheaper:

(Now, for a case! )
Did anybody purchase the one cyberblue quoted?
We all know cost is perhaps "a buck fifty" ... so why throw 40 into expansys' throat instead of 20 into another vendor - they are all made in China anyway...
@tvguy
HTC - No 2nd battery slot
eXpansys - 2nd battery slot under cover
I bought this one:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02926
Chose Brando as I have bought loads of stuff from them and always had great service. Only hitch was my local post office forgot to tell me it arrived and Brando had almost got to send me a replacement free of charge - lucky for them I got a reminder card (even though I didn't get a first card!).
I just received this one (ebay item 180308141073) from buy2asia and would state that it looks and works exactly like the one from expansys but is half the price. Arrived within 5 days and I am more than pleased!

will this work with the verizon version of the Touch Pro
If it has the same back I guess yes

It's $35 including shipping... how can that be half?
Don't get me wrong, I also got a few stuffs from buy2asia... he/she got really good price and nice items for the touch pro.
By the way, all of these desktop charger on this thread are beautiful. But they are so expensive. If they add a speaker on them and make it like the one for the ipod, then I wouldn't mind paying those price.

OMG. That is a brilliant idea! I should get a iPod dock and a cheap dock for the fuze and hack both and make it a fuze dock with speakers! I'll see if I can find these two things.
Tyguy and others who bought these docks:
There are two varieties with buy2asia on ebay:
One and Two.
Which one to buy? please suggest.
I'm using Touch Pro India version.

The only difference is, that one's price is an AU and the other's is in USD.
The first one should cost you $6 less. I don't remember the conversion rate to rupees so I couldn't tell you that.
@swordfish2 & Kraize
THESE TWO ARE DIFFERENT!!!
One has that ugly "hump" and has kind of structured plasticy surface while Two is the stylus one with flap to hide the 2nd battery!
For style I'd go with TWO and the one I bought is the "TWO-Style".

That's basically the one I got - from ebay, shipped from hong kong. It's a great dock and very nice looking. the only problem I had was they sent a european AC adapter (wrong plug). I have a bunch of usb AC adapters from other things so it wasn't an issue...
Without the spare battery, it's a little light so docking and undocking takes two hands - one to hold down the dock, one to pull out the phone...

EASECASE Custom Horizontal Case for HTC Fuze

Below see pictures of the very nice case that was customized by EASECASE found through eBay. I will follow up over time with my opinions but before I weather the case I figured I would post pictures, so here goes:

Initial impression is the case is nice and as described. The materials and craftsmanship are above board. Coming from the HTC case that cam with my wizard I was due an upgrade and I instantly feel that I have moved several notches above that case. Magnets seem to be just strong enough. If they were stronger they would probably be overkill but I think overkill with a 500 dollar device is confidence inspiring. The hole on the bottom used to aid in retreiving the phone is a bit small for my mammoth hands. I am going to voice these concerns to the vendor to see what if anything can be done to appease me. I will keep you guys posted on the case as well as the customer service. To this point, I am very pleased with the service. The case was assembled and arrived here from Hong Kong inside two weeks during holiday season. The vendor was prompt with updates about assembly status and the date and time of shipment. I will post more as it develops.
Nice case. Too expesive for me. That costs more than my phone! (I got mine for $34). My case was $8 on ebay. Shipped. In the long run, I don't care that I got a cheap case, I could buy 5 and they'd equal the same amount of yours. But I won't need 5. So I'll save my money and buy something else
I always baby my toys and I can tell you that I looked for a cheap alternative and I could find none that actually "fit" the Fuze. Several Wizard/Hermes/Kaiser cases were being pushed at Raphael owners but the cases are simply too big in my opinion. I like form fitting version here. My tastes are modest, but these guys can do many texture and color combinations that are more austentatious than I could stomach. One can even select the thread color. Internally, the case can be designed with microfiber suede or suede in many colors as well. You select the clasp type and belt clip type as well. The case is shipped for free via airmail so 39.99 is the final price. I think it was money well spent, so far at least. I will let you know if my opinion changes in time.
I checked it out. Turns out, this is not the only type of case they offer! They have vertical, pouches, different types of horizontal lol. I like the form fitting, but if you search on eBay for "touch pro case" a lot of them come up and most of them fit the fuze.
I am still elated with this case. And, the fit and finish are still quite impressive. I contacted thet vendor and the guys have agreed to give me a new case with a larger hole. They didn't even request the other case as a return. This company is top notch and if you need the perfect case for your HTC Fuze then this is the way to go.

Sounds top notch. I'll buy one as a present for someone then and we'll see how it goes!
I have my username embossed in the front panel of the case. My wife has already commandered the case. For a while there I thought I was going to have one hell of a back up case... On the bright side I don't have to buy my wife one for her Fuze...
nice looking case, but you have to take the phone out of it to use the phone. to many steps for someone who is always using the phone in my opinion. there are many REALLY nice leather cases, but it just takes to much time to keep pulling it out each time there is a call or email for a power user in my opinion.
Thanks for posting the pictures. It really helps learning about the different options that are available.
I have never been one to keep the phone in my pocket, but even when I did, it was always more trouble to try retreive it from my pocket to field a call relative to a horizontal waist mounted case. Besides when I am busy with many calls I usually have my trusty Motorola H700 attached to my ear and as a result I don't even have to retreive the phone. If you don't mind my asking what is your favorite type of case, if you use one?

I also use my wireless headset, but still like to look at who is calling, lol. Or with emails have to look on it. with my blackberry phones in the past and now the fuze I have always been more of a skin person, then a carrying case person. My current case is this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459761 and I am looking at the Seido one also.
Do you use MSVC? I have it set to announce all emails and incoming callers. This reduces the amount that I have to take the phone out.

I feel you there. It should be possible to change the voice. We can do it with navigation software, why not MSVC...

You could always get a bluetooth watch That'd show you who's calling. Or get a headset with a display.
What seller did you buy from? I can't seem to find a case for the Touch Pro (Fuze) on eBay? This case is exactly what I'm looking for.
The seller is WiWayCN, and I should have given a link to the auction I purchased from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=390007490992.
Wonderful! Thanks so much!
Did you order the suede lining, or the microfiber? Belt Clip B?
