how to set dimmer of the backlight - P6500 General

Hello
thanks for help
in my previous kaiser , after 30 second the screen backlight dim (don't shut down, set to minimal position) and after 1 mnute the kaiser completly go on stanby
this is all ok
But in my new P6500
after 30secondes the back light completly switch off !! but the p6500 still wake, and after 1 minutes it goes to standby
How can i set or make some regsitry tweak to make P6500 go to dim backlight after the preset time just like kaiser ??
Thanks

The Sedna screen is different from the one on your Kaiser , you can read whats on the screen even when the backlight is completely off.

Well, assuming there is sufficient ambient light! In total or near-total darkness, I would be VERY surprised if it still could be read.

In near-total darkness you definitely can't read whats on the screen but you can read it when the backlight is off and you are holding the pda under direct sunlight .

Registry fix for Universal keyboard backlight duration?

Does anybody know of a way of extending the Universal's keyboard backlight duration longer than the highest option of 10 secs? My eyes are hurting trying to see the keyboard at night.
Don't want it a lot. Maybe 20 or 30 seconds? Perhaps this is a registry setting?
TIA
Dont even need to change a registry setting mate
Go to Start > Settings > Buttons
Then click on the Backlight tab, it brings up the options here to either have the light sensor enabled or disabled, and also how long you want your keyboard backlight on for
Sorry
read ur post wrong
Only realised myself the highest option is 10 secs!
Doh!
Yes, there is a registry setting...
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout
Change it from 10 to whatever you want. I originally set it to 60, but found that was way too long. I've got it set at 30 right now and that seems to be working well for me.
You need to soft reset after making the change before it will go into effect. Remember to turn the device off before you soft reset to make sure the cache is flushed and your change is saved.
HTH,
Brett
What about a way to change the sensitivity of the keyboard light sensor? We all I think find it not sensitive enough, and when it's too dark to see the keys, it still doesn't come on.

In what way doesn't it work? Are the keyboard lights always on or always off? At night, in the dark, do the keyboard lights come on when you press a key? Have you got the ambient light sensor enabled in the Control Panel?
I thought my light sensor wasn't working either when I first got it, not realising that you had to tap a key before it would light up.
I was also one of those that didn't know where the stylus from the box went (it was the spare)

Thanks for your reply, I have since hard reset and gone for corporate mode, and it has started working originaly in a pitch black room no matter what key I pressed, it refused to light up.

2 Tytn Questions

Hi All,
Got, (Finally) my Tytn 3 days ago.
2 quick questions, (that might sound stupid to some of you.... )
1. is there a key-light on the QWERTY keyboard?
2. when I'm outdoors, (sun light) the screen is almost unreadable....
Any suggestions?
Thanks
1) yes.
2) increase backlight

so how do I turn the keyboard light on?
The brightness is set to MAX......
10x
the keyboard light turns on automatically when the room brightness is not enough (there's a light sensor between the "P" key and the green phone key)
For screen backlight.. I don't know.. mine works well even in high sunlight (when set to maximum brightness) however there's a tool from vj that increases backlight over the maximum value (like when you start the "camera mode") but as far as I know it can be used for small amounts of time (if you don't want to damage your device)
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJLumos
VJ has an app that will allow the screen to overbright like it does for the camera. It is in the latest WM6 rom. its called BrightScreen.
This helps a little in really sunny places but I also find the screen hard to read outdoors.
The Keyboard has an auto sensor that should activate it only in low light conditions. Change this setting under Settings > Buttons > Backlight Tab

I sticked a glare-reducing screen protector on it.
(Despite my nickname, which cause confusion, I'm not the vijay mentioned in the thread )

Backlight on 614c

Hi,
there are 5 levels for the backlight.
I see a clear difference going fromn 1 to 3 but no difference when I go from 3 to 5.
Any of you experienced this ?
Another question:
The power-setting management is such that the backlight is reduced after some time. If I am on level 3, the backlight is reduced automatically down to a light intensity, which corresponds to a level of 2. Why not 1 ?
Nonody ???
Nobody ??? (sorry)

i'm playing with some REG value and remembered your question
here is a nice one
open a REG edit
then go
HKCU/control panel/backlight/
edit the value of "max brightness" from 4 to 8
you will get more levels of brightness and if you keep it low but good for your use it will save battery
the jump between level 2 to 3 is still strong but not as much as …
FREE REG EDIT APP
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Thanks for the answer. I will try .
thanks EREZYAD, made the changes and it gave me the extra settings, but the jump is very small, so i went back to the default settings.
One thing i noticed though is even the lowest setting is rather bright. is there a way to make it darker?
my ipaq 6828 when set on the min setting was almost black.

HAVING MORE LEVELS IS GOOD FOR MIN LIGHT - BATTERY...
On my HP 614 all screen off programs just blank the screen, but backlight is still on in this low level 1 (or 2). Also when I configure in setting switch off backlight after 30 seconds, it will not switch backlight off, but to low level.
Why is that? Normally it shut be completely off, both - screen and backlight.
I was told on HP support that's a feature. But I'm sure it's bug.
yeah the back light stays on just the screen "displays" a black image
you can see the back light shining around the edges and the screen looks more grey than black.
I dont think you can ever switch of the backlight without pressing the on/off button
Have a problem with my 614c, when is charging, and display goes off after some time, it wont go on when i press the display button, just keyboard lightens, display goes on when i unplug it from power
i have not seen that happen to me.
its not the slide show but with no pics so it showing a black screen right?
Maybe a hard reset (backup ALL data first) ?

Backlight question

What is the darkest possible backlight option ? I often read at night. Also, is backlight easily changed ? On WM 6.1 you simply click on battery.

you still can click on the battery to change light settings:
start - settings - menu - more -system - battery. There you can change the settings.
I disabled automatic light setting and have it on 40% - suits me well.
BTW: Clicking on the notification bar doesn't do the battery/light job.
So changing backlight takes 6 clicks !?
Anyway I still wonder what is the minimum level in total darkness .. I worry if it is not too strong. I want it to be pleasant to watch in total darkness for longer time.
I use it as a GPS and driving with it at night with automatic blacklight is fine. With my Touch Cruise i always set the blacklight to minimum but with this one I don't seem to need it, even thought it only goes down to 20%
That would remove the need of going into settings ! Thanks for info.
you can set it manually to 10% (and probably even lower with registry tweaks/changes)

Autobrightness, when enabled, will take 2-4 seconds to adjust the brightness... so you feel its underbrightened...you can disable it and keep brightness maximum, then it will surely decrease the battery life
OP - also make sure you are not holding the phone by the ambient light sensor when the auto brightness is not bright enough for you.
As far as I know "Auto adjust screen power" will limit the maximum available brightness, so you might try to turn it off.
Do you know if the option to save energy for the screen actually saves energy?

where is it exactly?

One of the sensors to the left from the ear piece. If you grab the phone with your fingers on top and bottom, like in landscape mode, you can easily cover the sensor. Also some thick cases can cast shadow in the area of the sensor and throw off the autobrightness.
But yes, also make sure you have power saving mode off.
ok thanks to you all, i'll try turning down power saving..i'll let you know!
I'm glad I came across this tread as I noticed this too on my phone and started thinking it was a bug. I definitely am not covering the sensor and even placed the phone in direct sun light. I'll try turning the power saving off and see how it affects battery life and the brightness.

Power Saving Mode has nothing to do with brightness unless someone manually modify it.
Regards.

I notice that if its the last of my battery the screen will stay dull
