HTC Diamond Keyboard on VGA devices (quick fix) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I was disappointed to see that the HTC Diamond Keyboard CABs found here on XDA-DEVS were all for QVGA. I wanted to test it out on my Dell x51v, but the keyboard would not display correctly.
So what I did was extract the image files from the CAB, resize them to double their resolution, and recompile them into these two CAB files for ease of installation. All the CABS do is overwrite the image files installed by HTC Diamond keyboard to VGA equivalents. You must fully install the keyborad and languages from another CAB file BEFORE installing this CAB file to work.
Note: I admit, resizing images is not the best method of converting QVGA to VGA. Some images may appear blurry. How good this displays for you depends on how sharp is the screen on your device. This will at least allow you to try the keyboard on a VGA device.
I installed the Gullum Diamond Keys CAB found here. I prefer it over P1Tater's version found here because it seems to work well on my device. The images were extracted from P1Tater's because it has all languages in one cab.
The "ENG" Cab file contains the images needed for the english keyboard.
The "OTHER" Cab file contains the images for ESN, RUS, WWE, FRE, PTG, NORDIC, GRK, GER, and ARA.
(Please post if a true VGA version of Diamond Touch Keyboard surfaces)

Someone sorta beat you to it, I think.

Hope that helps.

wow this is stupid. the original manila keyboard files aka diamond keyboard files are vga and have been resized to qvga. get the vga files and they will look like they should and be original vga.

Yeah, the original VGA graphics would be much better, but without them the only alternative is to upscale the QVGA graphics or redrawing from scratch.
Since I know the true VGA graphics are out there somewhere, redrawing is unnecessary and a waste of time. This was quickly done. I described this as a temporary fix in the OP. Some people may not care about the fuzziness. Once the true VGA CAB is release, this will gladly become obsolete. LennySH from HTCGeeks says he has the VGA graphics and should be releasing a better fix. Use this if you want to try the keyboard now and use the better version when it comes out.
Note, this overlays the graphics for all three keyboard, not just the QWERTY like the other post.

Will this also fix the problem of numbers showing instead of the letters in the keypad mode?
Thanks in advance.

All I can say is that I dont have that problem using the Gullum CAB with English Keys. See first post images.
Edit: I just realized you may be refering to numbers being typed instead of letters in keypad. I experienced this once, when switching to another program while the keypad was up, only numbers would be entered. I found the only way to reset back to text entry was to hit the "options" key, then close down the settings panel. Letter entry would be restored.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I noticed that as well that in order to reset back to text entry is to go to the options but this is such a pain.
Hope that there will be a fix for this soon.
Thanks again.

Well, I think you did a fantastic job!! It installed fine on my x51v, and looks great! Now thumb typing is easy! I love using the 20-key Diamond keyboard!
Props and thanks for doing this!

will this keypad work in Opera Mobile 9.5?
I found that the QVGA ones didn't produce any letters in, say the google searchbar

I have a problem with your keyboard - I've installed it and it appear as keyboard but I can't use it, I can't write any letters. Must I first install gullum's program?
thanks!

Paulya Phone Skins and HTC Universal
I have tried the skins from paulya.com on a Universal with ROM as below.
They do NOT work. I have attempted to modify the graphics of Pauly's very nice skins for my own use, this is possible and you can make the appearance on the screen appear normal at the corrected pixels per inch size, however, the underlying .dll that controls the layout of the touch screen that comes bundled does not ammend the touch responses correctly (as an example: in portrait mode the graphics for SPEED DIAL, HISTORY and TALK remain horiozontal above the number pad, whereas the .dll expects to find them in a vertical list to the right of the dialpad. If you have the time and the skills there are instructions on several forums (including this one) for editing the relevant dynamic link libraries.
The only skin I have found so far that works (as downloaded, out of the box, so to speak) on this device with its current ROM is O2's XDA Exec skin (or one made for it by a third party) which is attached to this post. This skin however consumes 2mb of storage for a minor change in appearance (transparent in place of solid graphics). I have deleted it.
Incidentally I have paulya's Vista phone skin on my HTC Himalaya. It is beautiful graphic work and makes the device very usable with one hand no pointer required. Thank you very much for all your hard work.
CORRECTION:
Further effort shows that the underlying .dll bundled with paulya's eten skins does amend the touchpad on the screen correctly. (i.e. you get the result you would expect by tapping on the screen, but the graphics will not display correctly even when they are resized to 192 pixels per inch. I would imagine there is only a small effort required to get from here to something that works but I do not know how to do that.

PaulyA.com is no longer. For those of you who are still interested I have moved all my projects to JPL4Designs.com. The old site got robbed while I slept on it.. Mods, if you please update my links on the forums I would greatly appreciate it. Google is picking them off XDA-Dev and others rating the old site high. Thanks so much.

HTC home display cut short

I am running the original T-Mobile Windows mobile 5.0 rom and have installed the htc home application so the weather function works on my MBW-150 watch. But the display is cropped on the top and bottom,I have tried different vertions but still no luck. Any help or pointers would be great
Have you tried removing Today plugins one at a time to
see which is crowding the display?
no even if there is only the htc plugin on the today screen its the same,If too many items are displayed a scroll bar is shown.
search for vga htc home plug in
What DPI setting are you using?
I am running the vga version, and the dpi is at what ever the standard WM 5 is (unless I am missing somthing and I can alter the DPI on WM5 ?
just got a XT7501 and facing the same problem. does anyone know the solution?
That version of the HTC home, which was an earlier version hacked to work on the Athena, only displays correctly at 96dpi.
If you want that to display properly, you need to install RealVGA, which can be found very quickly by searching these here forums, or try the new one in the AP4 addons cab.
Amazing what searching can do!!
**sarcastic rant over**
Well, I'm somewhat confortable with the standart resolution which brings me large buttons to touch on the go. Since I had HTCHome on my TyTNII, I was supposing they will work with standart resolution also. Guess I'm totally wrong and will need to read more about VGA, RealVGA, etc.

As Sergiopi suggests that version of the HTC home will work in all DPI's, but you will not be able to use the HTC home Customizer application to change the icons, fonts, etc
There is also another HTC_HOME_VGA.cab that works in all DPI's and also allows you to use the customizer app.

Stuff i miss from my diamond

Ok so iwe played with the X1 for a day now. And its great and better than the Diamond in many ways but i miss some small things that really bugs me they didnt put in..
1. come one dont force me to use the stylus or the keyboard.. thats soooo 1990... i want a 1-9 dialpad xT9 input so i can type sms with one hand when driving. im gonna kill myself now... thank you SE
2. when i made a call from the diamond it made a little vibration when they answered so u dont have to hold the phone to your ear waiting for them to pick up.
3. One hand navigation sux bigtime. and the panels are cool but not so usefull... i miss touchflo where it was easy navigating with my thumb.
Has anyone solved this somehow please let me know!
other than this its great...
You can install touch flo on the device.
I thought they already have touch flo?
if not, then how to install it? link please?
and can diamond, or omnia thumbable keyboard be installed? how? link please?

if you type sms while driving you're gonna killing yourself anyway. I hope you go to kill yourself alone, without envolving someone else on the road
Sorry but if you text whilst driving you're a ****, and deserve to either get caught and fined, or crash into a lampost.
Fair enough, t9 keypad would be useful at times - but you're an idiot if you use it whilst driving.
Don't get me wrong - my car has hands free and i use it, but the point is its of little or no distraction to my driving...anyway, the vibrate when other answers i could see as being very very useful..

completely true
don't disdain driving.. so many people die on the roads.. and a lot of them, don't even have any fault, so many drunks and highspeed (nice offtopic).
and touchflo3d is really something nice!
I'm thinking that it might be fairly simple to create a SMS panel using the Free Panel SDK that has a nice fat touch-friendly keyboard on it or something. Now, if you can just find a developer who has the time to do it...
Don't drive and drink nor text
I always tought of numeric keyboards as stuff from old times that
came about because the technology wasn't ready for anything better at that time,
and T9 was a magical invention as solution to the most stupid way of typing.
click click click click = z
But with today technological advances and more complex needs and uses
the phone function is almost second to all the other productive uses.
We need something more than just texting a few abreviated words,
we need real keyboards and avanced touch screens, larger displays etc
to acomplish such tasks.
But actually, I know the majority of people just need a phone
to talk and a t9 to kill themselves.
And because it is the majority I know they want to kill me for saying what I feel.
.
i got a few answers to you
me myself and i, got the ezinput.cab and illo...finnish & SWED keybord addon to get the dismond keyboard working on my X1. and i use the touchflo2d todayscreen, almost touchflo3d... And ITs working flaless... (dont forget sipchanger.cab) to get the diamond to default, and the xtra t9 inout languages..
The S03 system would be a good option for the text input, see the thread in dev&hacking
(but I endorse the others comments about driving, especially having two cycling friends killed by morons doing just that).

[REQ] HD Keyboards for VGA..

Hey!
First of all iam really sorry if this has been asked before! But i searched around and didn't find anything about it ..
I have seen some roms with The Touch HD Keyboards cooked into them but only for once because they were to buggy. I would like these keyboards on my Touch Diamond, actually it is only the Phone Keypad iam looking for as the HD keypad provides a better way of changing between words..
Has this allready been made available as a cab or ?
Btw: Hope this was placed in the right section .. Just thinking that the guys here at the diamond forum is more into hd porting than they are at the development and hacking section ..
Thank you!

Hi!
I've tried to install this keyboard on my Diamond with 1.93 Official ITA Rom, but when I use any app in landscape I see it cutted.
Why???
Edit: It's a WVGA Keyboard? Beacause I've not a Touch HD but a simple Diamond (that is VGA). Perhaps it is the problem.
Nice guys ! Just what i was looking for.. Next thing is how do we change the language for T9 input?
Hi guys,
I haven't any clear answer.
Does it fit on the Diamond screen? In Landscape? In portrait?
I'm at work and can't try right now.
Thanks for your reply.
it does fit in portrait, not in landscape.
it is usable in landscape but it is cut of.

with every thing i do, my phone opens the smal keybord in stead off full qwerty.
even if i put it on full qwerty in the settings.
Works great in portrait. Noticed if I want to start a new email or text, the phone would pick up a name or give me an option of a person to choose from when adding a name to send to. now it doesn't. Could this be linked?
when i try to dl it i get a virus warning from norton....
any mirrors?
thats norton giving you a false positive.
its famous for doing that.
Does anyone know how to change the language? Its rather pointless having this keyboard if we can't change it to the language we want..

works great on my TD using duty v3.3

I noticed someone has posted a supposed Touch Pro 2 Calculator .cab:
http://mylostblog.altervista.org/software/freeware/per-htc/htc-freeware-htc-calculator-esclusiva. It looks great other than it is a huge install and it only works on WVGA. Looking at the cab file, there appears to be an XML file which skins the app. I'm throwing down the gauntlet to see who can first adjust all the layout so it fits on a VGA screen.
Also, I notice some images are .bmp and some are .png, so for extra credit see if you can convert all of them to .png and maybe save some space. I'm gonna look into this myself, but I know someone else can beat me to completing this.
P.S. - Not sure if you'll have to resize the button graphics to fit, or if the w/h parameters in the layout xml will do that for you on load.

I've done it (before reading this thread). But I don't know how to create cabs.
I resized the buttons (both portrait and landscape) and updated the coordinates and dimensions in the file "CalculatorMain_NoImgPkg.xml" (installed in the \Windows folder).
And also, I don't like all these small bmp files in my windows folder, so I moved the whole bunch to "\storage card\program files\htccalc"
I attach the buttons in a zip file, and the converted xml (also zipped).
This is not much use for most of you, but could be a good base for a VGA version.
"Installation":
1. install the original mylostblog version
2. delete the calc_*.bmp files from your windows folder
3. create the folder "htccalc" under "program files" in your storage card
4. unzip "buttons.zip" into the "htccalc" folder
5. replace "CalculatorMain_NoImgPkg.xml" in "\Windows" with the attached "CalculatorMain_NoImgPkg.xml"
To get to the scientific version slide out the keyboard or use a screen rotation utility.

[OEM] Custom Touch Pro 2 Manila
Got the dependencies working on the Touch Pro 2 files from the dumpity-dump, here's the Manila:
http://www.4shared.com/file/88620823/b845055a/PACKAGE_CustomRhodium_Manila.html
Same launch as the others-- open SIP keyboard while launching. The sure fire way is on Today->Items, open SIP keyboard before checking TF3D. Let's see if others can modify it faster than xboxmod (I'm busy with my ROM this will take take to resize)
EDIT: this is an OEM, not a cab, if you don't know what to do with it, then...
EDIT 2: this has not been resized, it's in CFC form, this came from the Dutty dump coming from SatScan.
Welcome to the EzInput 2.0 Keyboard Suite project.
Ok, the time has come.
HTC has rushed to prepare a pre-release of its EzInput 2.0 technology just in time for the MWC in Barcelona, and we have it here ready for our tweaks, hacks and workarounds.
These are the new layouts - only Phone Keypad and Full Qwerty, this time.
The first two Beta cabs are ready for download, but beware, this is just for experienced users only.
As you'll see, the known issues are a bit annoying, especially if compared to what we're accustomed to with the 1.5 release.
But that said, the huge use of .xml configuration files will probably mean a quite easily customizable experience for all the known form factors.
Sadly, it seems that although the .xml configuration files might be ok, the keyboard in its current form presents too many bugs to be acceptable for a day-to-day use.
Feel free to make your tests and prepare your cabs and packages. A better release will arrive as soon as the first Rhodium and Topaz phones will be ready for prime time...

Known Issues
Availability of Keypad Layout.
The Keypad layout is available and working, but not selectable using the settings or the old Input Panel.
To select it, you have to use the new SipMenu, included in cab B1.1 and above.
Only the newer phones from HTC can use the SipMenu (Elfin, Diamond, Raphael, Opal, Jade, Blackstone, Iolite).
The layout can be forced - in Portrait mode - using the registry.
Languages Availability and Selection.
Not all languages are available on the pre-release rom.
The Beta1 cab includes English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
There's no way to select them using the standard Input Panel.
To select it, you have to use the new SipMenu, included in cab B1.1 and above.
Only the newer phones from HTC can use the SipMenu (Elfin, Diamond, Raphael, Opal, Jade, Blackstone, Iolite).
The old Language Packs made for V1.5 are *NOT* compatible with V2.0.
It seems that the main language can be forced through a registry setting, but it has not yet been verified.
Landscape mode keys don't work as expected.
In Landscape mode, a few keys don't seem to work at all.
The .xml layout definition files seem to be ok, so this might be a bug in the code.

[APP]UPDATED VERSION HTC Album Version 3.0.1911.1826 from TP2 (MADE VGA)
In other news here is the HTC ALBUM Version 2.5.1820.4127 and 3.0.1911.1826. the only thing i see different is 2.5 version does have Album Social Networking and it works with FOOTPRINTS. 3.0 is truely from TP2 and doesn't support footprints. other than that it moves quicker than other albums. this is all i can see that is different. (THANKS TO CONFLIPPER FOR THE CORRECTIONS)
to use it with FOOTPRINTS with version 2.5 you must have it installed already. When you click on a picture that has gps lat and long cordinates in it select menu and scroll down. under save to contacts you will see 2 blanked out lines. the one under save contacts opens google maps while the one under that one opens up footprints.
Version 2.5.1820.4127 that works with footprints, you can download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ynjlvtjawvc
Version 3.0.1911.1826 that doesn't work with footprints and is from TP2, you can download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ktjiyjzzytn
see pictures below from version 2.5 that works with footprints

We work hard to release this Manila soon as possible.
but we can't announce a release date because we don't know.
this project is not an easy task so i ask you to be patient
an please don't spam the thread to ask for a release date.
NOT YET RELEASED
last news:

all lua soon decompiled a giant leap for this project! THX To Sztupy
I'm a Blackstone owner I don't really need this!
i do this only because i love what we do together on xda.
This is what the word community mean.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixed
Auto-loader is now fixed!!
Some tabs re-sized to VGA!!
All tabs functional and all features working!!
Major crash issues seem resolved!!
To Do......
Slider bar is still not showing - NEED LUA HELP IF YOU CAN!!
Some tabs still need resizing in both portrait and landscape.
Other than that it's almost done guys. As xboxmod said in his post up above, PLEASE do not beg and whine and complain. It will be released when it is released and currently there is no tentative release date.
We will keep you updated as we go so please be patient.
Thanks for your understanding,
Dan.
EDIT:: [2/25/09]Small update - Weather tab in landscape mode now appears to be almost fixed completely. Update text is in the works Arrows to switch cities are being left out because of the gap they create on the far right side.

I guess there has been a bit of misunderstanding... The merge idea is great, but we should make it gradually...
Let's wait for Ameet to be back logged in...
Having all the links in one place is good idea but deleting the original threads is bad. Now it's not possible to share information, experiences and etc in an easy manner.

Yes, a better idea would be to use a main thread to post the download links, and separate threads for the ongoing discussions... trying to follow posts regarding each package would be overwhelming, in a single merged thread...

Hello,
The merging of ezinput to oem's was not the good ides
Anyway; Today I have again started the conversion of wvga ezinput 2.0 to qvga so I have successfully completed 30% of work but still there is lot to do. Here is the screenshot.
Thanks and regards
Sincerly sorry guys. I guess I misunderstood the whole idea of merging requests
I'll start the restoration as soon as I reach home. Regret the inconvenience once again
