how NOT to connect to GPRS - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

hi all,
i have an unlimited GPRS plan and hence connected 24 hours....
however, this uses up a lot of battery and frankly, there are times when i do not wish to be online!
problem is, even if i disconnect the GPRS, it reconnect automatically after a while.
is there any way to prevent the phone to auto reconnecting?

Search the forum for the modaco nodata cab file
This great tool lets you toggle on/off the connections.
For easy use, you can create a shortcut for it on your today screen and toggle it on/off whenever you want
Hope this helps

Do you use an exchange server? If you do, it may be due to Active Sync trying to connect to the exchange server.

pfft.. you think GPRS is bad? try EVDO.. my 6700 barely lasts a day (with Activesync/push email)

you could also use a combination of mortscript and vijay555's VJVolubilis to disconnect qutomatically at a time or period (ie, every 10 mins) you define

is there any reason nodata would give an error on a wm 6.0 standard device?

the only error that i know of is when the phone has no data connection details on it, ie a custom rom which does not include gprs settings, it will give an error until you add the settings.

use something like Advanced Config... You can disable GPRS somewhere in this program... It has many other stuff you can do with your phone...

XDA Atom - My GPRS connection start by itself! How stop it?

Hello.
I need your help since my Atom is lauching the GPRS connection without any instruction to do that.
I closed all the resident memory programs but still go on dialing!
How can I avoid the connection start withouth promptin it or only if I need it?
Thank You
Regards
There must be some program you have installed that's initiating it. I would suggest that you did a hard reset (after backing up your documents and contacts, of course) and then install program after program, testing a while after the installation, to see what the offenting app is.
same problem for me
Moved to proper section
Main reason
EMAIL - once an account is setup it will auto connect to internet for new email, default every 2 hours, but Windows Mobile do not disconnect GPRS after trying to get new mails.
ACTICE SYNC - if you have setup connection to EXCHANGE SERVER eg, google push server.
wil also auto connect all the time
Down side of Microsoft is that they didnt design to disconnect after trying to get email like Symbian(Nokia) do. so other manufacture will offer to design their comm manager to disable data auto connection but O2 & Quanta didnt go to the extend to offer this function back then.
Download NoData from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467813
toggle to DISABLE GPRS
this will stop auto connection to GPRS but it may stop receiving MMS as MMS also require GPRS connection.

Automatic Outlook Mail/Exchange Synchronizer [rk-OSR] [Latest Update: 15 OCT 2007]

rk-OSR version 1.0.10 Automatic windows mobile outlook mail and exchange active synchronizer.
Here is a application I developed for my personal use now sharing with you all for non commercial use.
I basically use this utility to check emails from multiple email accounts from my windows mobile device using the wifi, gprs networks
You can even perform Exchange Active Sync too!
Feature list
Works on windows mobile 5 and 6.
Can sync up multiple email accounts at multiple schedules setup.
Can perform Exchange Active Sync.
Connect using: Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi if not GPRS, Manual Wi-Fi, Gprs Only or Existing connection(USB)
Switch off GPRS/3G after sync
Option not to sync during Saturdays and Sundays
Get notified on emails or failed attempts
Get notified with custum sound(wav files).
Keeps device 'Alive' till all the accounts have been synchronized.
Supports 'Silent' mode.
Supports command line initiation.
Supports one touch* email checking(one touch on the shortcut connects to wi-fi network and switches between accounts and synchronizes and then hangs up wi-fi)
Can be set to sync only if device sleeping.
Does not write anything to registry.
Does not run in background.(works on notifications)
You can uninstall the application from ‘Remove programs’ and delete the application directory.
Installation:
Install the cab file attached below
After installation launch the program rk-OSR from the programs and go thru each tab page to configure it and finally save the settings (make sure the Enable check box is checked) test the functionality if working properly. Then close the application. Now the sync should happen at next specified schedule.
*One touch synchronization: A Very good feature for people checking mail manually, so that you do not have to switch accounts and click the sync menu each time or start/stop wifi etc, just one click to do that now. You can also assign this shortcut to hardware buttons. The new install adds a new program icon called ‘rk-OSR-Now’ to your programs list. But you need to do the following procedure done before attempting ‘rk-OSR-Now’ shortcut.
You should configure the ‘rk-OSR’, and make sure it is working properly and you are able to synchronize your accounts properly.
You must edit the shortcut, rk-OSR-Now; add additional text “Now” without quotes. Basically your target should read as below
"\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe" Now
Hope it is simple to configure.
I have been using it on TyTn with WM6.
By the way this is my first WM application!
Code:
Following command lines supported
"\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe" Now ---> Checks the mail manually
"\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe" Enable --> Enables the rk-OSR
"\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe" Disable --> Disables the rk-OSR
Update: 1.0.10
Added better file browser to locate the *.wav files
Fixed the bug with the 'Wait time to Sync'
Email.zip is a sound wav file 'You got mail' (ofcourse female voice! )
Note: this application requires Compact Framework 2.0
You need compact framework 2.0 installed inorder to run this application. The compact framework is already part of WM6, so if your device is WM6 skip this step. But most of the WM5 devices do not have this update. So you must download here and run the installation on your desktop (then active sync to update your device). Only after completing this step install the application.
New: If you want 'Push Like Mail' support please follow the application link to rk-SMS Switch
How to info for rk-SMS Swich with rk-OSR here
If you like the application please show your support by donation on Paypal
Download from here
Looks like this post of mine pushed down too fast because of the WM6 release(Wrong timing )
So i am just bumping my post up.
Anyone has any feedback?
I have synchronization problems whith gprs connection and activesync.
I try it you software....
Thank you.

If you have synchronization problems already the rk-OSR might not work for you.
rk-OSR just schedules the outlook synchonizations, all the sync logic is on the outlook, not in rk-OSR
First you have to fix the problem with your sync, then only you could use rk-OSR
HTH
rk-OSR Update 1.0.1(One touch sync)
Please read the first post for the updated information and the cab file.
tytnguy - I'll try the app and get back here.
the idea sounds solid and do sync manually, so thx for the app allready
Keep up the good work in making life better for everyone
Update 1.0.2
There was a bug..
If you used Wifi to sync then any subsequent attempt to switch on wifi using the communication manager would fail(till soft reset )
Its fixed in version 1.0.2 now
I'm not sure why this app is not getting more attention, i mean syncing over wi-fi, isnt that what everyone has been cribbing out ever since AS4/WM5 came out??
neways, thnx for the app, will try it out..
let me see if I understand this app correctly before testing it :
At a given schedule it will turn on wifi
Synch
disconnect wifi
Right ?
What if im not at home at the time, so dont have wifi, will it default to GPRS ?
What happens to the schedule I have allready set in activesync ?
Right now i have just scheduled in active synch. So it uses either wifi provided I turned it on when i got home or if not turned on, GPRS.
thks

Question:
Hi there tytnguy, I've got a question:
I'd like to use your app; I have an exchange account for work; but for my private mail I use the Outlook Mobile. The problem is that when I set it to sync every 30 minutes or so; it keeps doing that during the night; waking me (an the misses) every time someone tries to sell me Viagra, Russian brides or weight-loss pills.
The times you enter in the "schedule-tab"; are those the exact times that the app will sync? Or are those the times between which the "outlook-Mobile schedule" will be active?
BTW: looks brilliant for a first-timer!

Sure, in active sync, in the email properties you can say check for new mail every 4 hours or2 hours etc.., and determine settiings for peek, and off peek days/times.
It then checks if i have new email according to this, using either wifi provided I leave it on, or gprs if wifi is off.

Are you able to setup the network configurations to use Wifi and if not available then to use GPRS?
I am not able to do it on my TyTn?
I dont think I setup anything specific really...
If Wifi is avaialble and the phone is connected to my acees point at home it uses wifi to connect to the internet and so on
If its not, it goes through connecting to the net via GPRS
Im running WM6 by the way.

Any utility to kill Media Net data connection on HTC Diamond?

I need a utility that I can call from Mortscript to terminate existing Media Net data connection. From Mortscript manual, the "Disconnect" command does not work any more after WM5 AKU3. I confirmed that this is true. Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks in advance.
Do you want to kill it after you use it, or kill it so you can't use it?
the second is a lot simpler, I use the Modaco NoData Cab as well as schap's advanced configuration tool to block all internet communications except for wifi.

The 1st. It is mainly for iGuidance scripting. With data connection open, iGuidance takes forever to launch. So in the mortscript, I want to terminate the Media Net data connection before launching the iGuidance.
NoData Connection
Hi there .... well I can see you losing money over the automatic data connection .... here is the solution application called NoData.cab ... look for it and it is what I use for now .... it is the best.
NoData: where you can toggle your connections
Instead of doing all that, you can set the data connection's DNS and ALT DNS servers to a fake value. It works for me and iGuidance starts up even with data enabled.

Auto data connection and stay switch on

Hi,
My second problem is that my Iolite activate data connection by itself like it was trying to download or uploade something (MMS or something), but the connection stay alive for a long time and nothing happen.
When I turn off data connection, it turn on again in a few minutes.
To avoid costs I use program which disable all configured data connections (program called "NoData"). But when all connections are disable, my Iolite don't turn off the screen and backlight after inactivity time.
I think that the reason can be in Microsoft Direct Push, but I don't use it.
This article is similarity to my problem: http://khason.net/blog/how-to-disable-exchange-security-policy-for-windows-mobile-devices/
The problem apears today. I have my Iolite for 2-3 weeks.
Help me please... It's so frustrating...

The topic you have paste is about totally different problem.
I'm not looking for program which can turn off unused connection, but I'm looking for a reason of unexpected turning on data connection.

I think, AdvancedConfig will be the right decision. Found it here.
Iolite comes with some apps, which use Data connection. For example Weather (default setting is to update it no matter what) or QuickGPS (downloads sattelite position info). Also when you are browsing via WiFi or ActiveSync, it might sometime disconnect and Data connection is automatically started.
Microsoft DirectPush is used with Exchange server (for example, I use it with my company email) and you must configure it. It is not enabled by default. Anyway, when I don't want to check email all the time, I just disable DirectPush and it stays disabled.
You also might to check, what app is using your DataConnection. Try SPB Wireless Monitor (I think it is trial), which can show you, what app is using which connection.

Yes, I know that. I turn off weather updater and quickgps (and footprints or something) first day. And I don't have any problem till today.
But what is strange: after disable all data connections some program prevent screen from switch off...
OK, I'll try SPB Wireless Monitor.
Just an idea. Aren't you using CorePlayer or TCPMP? CorePlayer can use network and data connection and also it can override display sleep time.
Advanced Config
in "data connections":
- GPRS auto attach: disabled
Manila TF2D
in "Weather tab"
- menu -> settings -> disable "automatically download weather data"
Settings (Start -> Settings -> System
in "location settings"
- disable AGPS
Messaging
- disable the automatic e-Mail-Download (when it is enabled)
I hope, that will help.
Greetings
edit: OK, i wrote to slowly - 2 posts are come ;-)

[HowTo]auto update weather/stock data when sync with a PC?

So far I don't have a 3g plan. I would like to update the weather/stock data everytime the HD is sync with my PC with internet.
I can do this manually but it's better if it's auto-refreshed.
(it would be even better if the data gets refreshed every certain minutes when sync)
no one knows it? no one needs it?

One possible solution would be to setup your device to download weather/stock automatically (for example every hour) and disable 3G/internet activity by using NoData app.
This means your device won't be able to auto-update when not connected via activesync as you have disabled 3G activity but will be able to update when connected via activesync. Just toggle off internet & WAP on NoData

thanks, I tried this myself.
but every time I open the weather tab, I got an error msg says that there is not i-net connection. this is a bit annoying ...
the quickGPS works much better, when I sync with a PC, it starts it self and fetch the data in background from i-net.
yeah! anyone knows how to get rid of that message everytime i go to the weather tab?
Anyone have a better solution out there yet. I would also want the Stocks and Weather update with every Sync. I know it does it when the Weather Tab is selected, I would just rather it automatically update even if left on the home screen on every Docking.
