Microsoft Autoroute 2007 GPS not working - Shift General

Hi People,
Until the folks here @ XDA-DEV succesfully hack their way in the Shift to get :
- SD card access
- Bluetooth Access
- Wifi Access
- optional HDD access
it's still impossible to navigate using the WinMo part of this gem.
So.. I installed Microsoft Autoroute 2007 Europe, and tried to connect a bluetooth
GPS to the HTC shift.
- paired my HUDGPS (polaris brand.. also a Heads-Up-Display for in your car!!)
- pairing tells me I got two new serial ports, an SPP and serial port (com4 and com5)
- I start autoroute, configure it to use either com4 or 5, but fails. It says that the comport might actually
already be in use, or , the other port, it says : cannot open comport.
Usually, I'm not easily defeated, so I changed the comports in the device manager to 21 and 22 to
see if I could make it work this way.
Still no joy, it even deleted all comports without my consent, and had to de-pair and re-pair (aha!)
the Bluetooth GPS to get my comports back.
Even after that, I just cannot get Microsoft Autoroute 2007 to work with the BT GPS.
I will post more info (can I use other software etc...) soon, maybe someone already tried
to install navigation stuff and has a few comments.
Also, if you still own a fossil PDA like the Kaiser, checkout http://www.reperion.com/newclient

i don't want to disappoint you, but the WM side of the shift is a kaiser.

I haven't tried Microsoft's GPS navigation software, mainly because they don't have the maps (even if they did, it probably would be rather outdated) for my country.
For what it's worth, I have installed both Garmin Mapsource coupled with its nRoute program, as well as MapAsia's MapKing GPS navigation programs on my Shift, paired with my GSpace GPS receiver via BT, and both programs work. I use a "third party" gateway - Franson's GPSGate - as a go between, between the GPS receiver and both software.
Works flawlessly.

Automapa EU works well on vista side. Cheked with Rikaline GPS 6036 - SiRF Star III SOC v2 and GPS GB735 NAVIBE both without any problems

Sygic 7.53 and Igo 8 working fine on Vista side (with usb and bt gps receiver)

How do you use Igo on Vista?

I'm not dissapointed at all I actually own a Kaiser. It was more or less a joke, badly brought, I agree
By the way, thank you people for posting about your successes, this means I'm doing something wrong. How hard can it be to pair a GPS and use it ?

I'm using MS Streets and Trips 2008 (North American equivalent to Autoroute) with a Holux GPSlim240 and it is working flawlessly. I can't remember much but didn't have any issues/quirks during set up. I've just used it a couple of times to test but not since, 'cause I have a 7in touchscreen built-in nav in my car that has traffic updates through Sirius sat radio here (no need for internet), but I still like the option of course

ah ha
finally found somebody has same problem with GPS receiver with Autoroute 2007.
but seems there isn't a clear solution for this issue.
seems like the Autoroute is the problem, i tried with GPS Viewer with Correct port it recognises the gps unit and correctly indicates cordinates.
if i can't find solution soon i will try to find another software as successful users found.

Im the starter of this post, here's the promised update !
Autoroute 2007 just WON'T work on the Shift. I tried a million different combinations of COM ports and security settings, no joy,
As soon as I try to use another GPS program like VisualGPS CE it will connect to the bluetooth receiver just fine.
My best bet is that Autoroute 2007 needs a GPS receiver that is Microsoft Compatible in contrast with the other 99% GPS programs
Will download a trial of Automapa EU now. THanks everyone.

I've got it working with the Bluetooth TomTom GPS receiver.
No problems with it.

could you share with us your port settings and , by any chance, does your GPS say it's 100% NMEA 2.0 compliant ?
a creensie of your BT Comport section would be nice

No, it means it is technically the same hardware (qualcomm msm7200) with different HTC PID, different aux devices, etc. So ROMs are *NOT* compatibles.

How employ other gps software with EMTAC BT antenna than TT

I have the tomtom navigator 3 and a EMTAC bluetooth antenna and this works perfectly
My problem is that when I'am trying to employ other softwares like VITONAVIGATOR, GPSDASH ,INTELLIGOLF, and so on I cannot configure the softwares to recognize my antenna.

hi,
solution is simple...
sorry to say it, but uninstall TomTom GPS or better the whole TomTom and use Mapsonic or Mapopolis instead of it...
i did the same.
buzz
emtac
Yes of course but i already bought tomtom, is there any other solution?
Simple, in Remove Programs uninstall TomTom~GPS.
This won't prevent TomTom from working but will stop TomTom locking the BT Com Port for its own exclusive use.
Plenty of discussion of this on our website, see our detailed explanation here.
@griffog
man, that's an excellent guide there... really good one...
;o) basically i meant the same... ;o)))
but, tomtom needs also far more processing power than other comparable programs, that means battery drains 30% faster, slower UI response, etc.
i know, battery is not any issue if you are driving, but i sometimes walk as well... )))
anyway, i don't like tomtom...
do you maybe know, is it possible to do crossborder routing in newer tomtom versions? like you can in mapopolis?
THANX
buzz
It looks like TomTom v5 will do cross border-routing yes. I have never experienced slow response to the UI except when using SD for map storage on iPAQ2210's. Using CF resolves this.
v5 also introduces walking and cycling modes which alter the route calculations. What PDA/GPS/memory Card Combo do you use?
darren it our work around doesnt work for xda2

hi griffog,
i'm using XDA2 + EMTAC BT + Mapsonic or Mapopolis.
Maps are on Transcend 64Mb SD card.
i'm very satisfied with this combination

just being playing with mine   eerrrr right
first delete gps 2.07 or above then soft reset the device install pocket bluetooth tools delete the pairing with your receiver repair then ( during which you will be asked to create a serial port for this device select NO at this point then intall gps 2.06 available from www.pocketgpsworld.com this available in the downloads section under tomtom gps drivers.
download the cab file and copy it to the xda2 and then exicute it from file explorer select you reciver and away you go
well thats how i did it hopefully the above ramblings make sense
Alix, how will he configure the other gps software if no serial port has been assigned, I understand this works under tomtom as "bluetooth gps" but I am not so sure it will work with the software he mentions.unless you have tried it, if so how did you configure it.?
bluetooth tools asigns the comport to com7 not sure hows these thing work really it just worked for me i can run tomtom 3 and copoilt 5 on the same machine

Orange SPV M500 with crap $icrosoft Bluetooth Stacks

Please , please can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the crap $icrosoft Bluetooth drivers and on my SPV M500 and install better ones. As they are so crap and have taken out alot of function.
Please tell me there is a way
Thanks
Brian
What do you want??? I'm using that same MS stack on my S110 and I cannot say I miss anything compared to Widcomm on my old iPAQ, everything I need (ActiveSync, OBEX, SerialPort) can be done via BT. What are you missing???
Besindes you can install another stack like the Toshiba one or one from Bluesoleil and disable the MS one (cannot be uninstalled because it is in ROM).
Magican with 64MB RAM cant run Widcom but maybe the 128MB ones like the S110 can, but I'm not brave enough to test it. Despite I've no idea where to get the Widcom stack for PPC.
one of the most important things is my car kit requires me to activate the serial port on port 5, but My IPAQ in the bluetooth i click on the carkit port and select connect, and works fine, but i do not have that fuction with my Orange M500, until i can connect the port it will not work so thats why i need other bluetooth software that has this fuction. it seems like $icrosoft is the onlt bluetooth stact that does not have this fuction, and they have cut it down
Hope you understand that
Well I use my Holux 236 GPS on Port5 using SPP (SerialPortProfile) so the functionality is in the MS stack for sure.
Sorry and by the way, where can i get the Toshiba one or one from Bluesoleil bluetooth stack drivers and how do i disable the $icrosoft ones
Thanks again
Brian
Yes, but it does not have the manual connect fuction like other bluetooth statcks do, and i can not connect to the carkit without it. my other device have that fuction and works well, just not my M500
Brian
You can get the bluesoleil one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18537&highlight=bluesoleil
The Toshiba one can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15604&highlight=toshiba
Important: Both stacks are not perfect. The bluesoleil is limited because the Magician is not a device it is registered on and because of that it has a 5MB data trasfer limit before you need to start it again (like a trial). The Toshiba one is really good but unstable at times.
You best bet is prolly the Bluesoleil one and the "trial" limitation can be removed, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24801&highlight=bluesoleil
Instructions are avail in those two threads too. Could you let me know how it goes, I'm thinking of using another stack too.
Using a GPS mouse should work without problems. I guess you're doing something wrong. The MS stack establishes the serial port connection automatically once an application tries to use that port. I don't know how it works, but the stack can separate between a connection through the serial profile using Active Sync and a connection using a navigation software to the GPS mouse. For me, it works with no problem. I can use ActiveSync and afterwards go into my car, switch on TomTom and it connects to my bluetooth GPS mouse automatically.
I guess it also has to do how the corresponding navigation software deals with the BT stack. Therefore you should try another software and see if it works better.
It's basically true, that you can do almost everything with the crippled MS stack aswell. Even browsing the net through ActiveSync, even though it has no PAN profile. What it really lacks is the A2DP profile. I think WM5 also features HID, for keyboards, mouses and stuff.
i do not have any problem with any other bluetooth device, it just my CK3500 karkit requires you to do a manual connect, and the MS stack does not have that function.
And thanks to Private-Cowboy, will try this and post update
Thanks again

I'm afraid I not fully agree with you...
In my case (I have a MDA Compact) for my bluetooth GPS mouse to work properly within TomTom 5, I need to bond the GPS mouse with COM5. And that means that I cannot connect simultaniously to an external GSM (for TomTom Traffic via GPRS).
Why an external phone on my MDA Compact? On the MDA I have my work provider and on an external phone I have my private provider with GPRS (a bit difficult I know).
As said to two functions together doesn't work with the MS stack because of the bonding of the GPS mouse on COM5.
Except...
Except when I install an old version of Bluetooth Tools!!! With Bluetooth tools I can bond my GPS mouse to a virtual COM port, which TomTom 5 recognizes! And now I can also use my external GPRS phone!
OK, I can have 2 connection through my MS stack. as i do it
i bound com 5 to my portable Slim GPS until and run tomtom 5.10 in my car, and that works fine, then on my car kit i click connect to paired device and it then connect fine,(so i have a com 5 connection to my GPS and a connection to my hands free car kit). all through my Orange SPV 500 at once
This work great,
But i wanted to use the car kit for handfree and GPS, but as my gps does not work on my car kit i am stuck with my portable Slim GPS unit for now

Yes, it works with a handsfree carkit. But it doesn't with an external phone, maybe because the phone is a 2-way connection? Try it and you'll see it doesn't!
Ok sorry about that

Will TomTom Navigator 5.x work with the Universal?

Hi, I'm hoping to get the new Windows Mobile 5 device dubbed the HTC Universal, AKA o2 xda Exec.
TomTom tell me TomTom Navigator 5 is NOT compatible with it.
www.mobilefun.co.uk state that it is compatible.
Some people on forums say they have 5.1 working with the device.
Other people state the Bluetooth won't lock in.
Does anyone here know the truth?
Yes it will work
It works. I use TT 5.1 about every day (via a bluetooth receiver). Here's the instructions to install the program.
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28171&highlight=
Go about half way down.
To install your BT GPS receiver. First pair the device. Then add a new COM Port under the Bluetooth settings. You want to add an OUTGOING port. I usually specify it as COM0. Then start up TT5, go into GPS configuration, selct "Other BT Receiver", then select COM0 from the menu. TOMTOM will automatically start up BT (it doesn't have to on before you launch the program), find the already paired receiver and start communicating with (give it some time though. the whole process takes about 30 seconds to a minute).
Hope this helps.
Cool, thanks!
And finally... I assume the Universal can support 2 simultaneous bluetooth connections? E.g. can I use TomTom with the bluetooth GPS at the same time as speaking on a bluetooth car kit?
To keep things simple
Tomtom 5.0 does NOT work with the Universal. Tomtom 5.1 Does. Hpoe this helps
Received my T-Mobile UK MDA PRO today. I can confirm that TomTom 5.1 DOES work great on it with any bluetooth GPS device, although it was a few hours before I stumbled upon a thread in this forum which had instructions on how to get it working
jasjar works fine with tt5.1 and can connect at same time with gps, headset and many bluetooth devices

Yes it does. I have 5.0 running on my JASJAR now. Haven't upgraded to 5.1 yet in case it breaks something.
just replace the tomtom navigator.exe with the 5.1 version, all done.
How on earth did you manage to get TT5.0 to work?
I have tried everything (all the above tricka and then some) and cannot get the right com port to show up from within Tomtom? Can you tell me step by step?

It does work, if you follow the guide in this thread exactly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
However, I had to use COM4 instead of COM0.
I also had a problem where I connected everything to the right COM port, could see TomTom accessing the GPS device by the LEDs, but still "no GPS device found!" - it seems TomTom likes your GPS device better if it's actually locked onto a signal (so go outside!), give all this a try
...talking of TTN5....
Has anyone had any success getting TT working with the Wired GPS mouse? Is there a way to connect it to the Exec...?(mini USB to serial connector?)
If the 2 can be physically connected, does the software see it/connect up properly?
TIA
cheers
Paul
FYI, I emailed TOMTOM about the installer crashing, and guess what they said. "TOMTOM 5 is not supported on the IMATE JasJar."
What a load of cobblers. It works perfectly well if you install it using the cab files. TOMTOM support is the biggest load of s**t I have ever come across.
JJ works fine with the following:
1) Navigon MN 5
2) TT 5.1
3) OnCourse Navigator
4) iGuidance
These have been tried and tested.
Just cause it's not supported it doesn't mean they don't think it'll work. it just means that they won't help you fix it if it goes wrong becuase they have not tested on that platform. always worth a try regardless of what the vendor or devlopers say!
Another MDA Pro with TT5
I just got an MDA Pro a couple of weeks ago, and being the fool I am, bought a copy of Tom Tom 5 from Fleabay (doh!).
On receipt, I could not get the software to load from my PC, and when trying to copy over the cab files manually, the ttn.cab file will not load on the PDA. On closer inspection, this has got something to do with 'Bekonl' so appers I have wasted some money on cracked software that does not work.
Is this right? Or if I can obtain an alternative ttn.cab file, will it load, if so will it be locked? I was just looking for a reasonable low priced SatNav solution - but this is proving to be harder than I thought!
For those of you coming from a WM2003 device you can simply install TomTom on a memory card on that. Take the memory card out and put in Universal. It works. That's it.
I am not unfortunately. I am coming from a Mk1 paper diary, a £3.99 map from the petrol station, and a bullet proof Nokia 6310i!
All help gratefully received though.

If the ttn cab fails to install try this;
uninstall all tomtom entries from remove programs.
Remove sd card from device
install gps.cab
soft reset (this is the important bit)
install ttn.cab

JJ works fine with Oziexplorer, Tomtom5x

Garmin GPS problems

I know that Garmin said that there GPS 10 is not compatible with 9100.
But I manage to make some settings so i could pair the units together.
Only one problem.. when I try to install basic map and other maps my computer wont find the device.
It says that the unit is not connected...
My Qtek S100 workes directly.. but I have just upgraded to 9100 and would like to get it to work..
Any suggestions?
Not much for help here with me, buddy.
I found that most of the gps software I had tried would not allow me to use my BT GPS...finally, Pocket Streets allowed me to set the com port to what I was able to set as the outgoing port on the 9100...it works fine....
I have a lot of useless mapping software now, and Pocket Streets isn't all that I would hope, but it will do for now...
I've heard rumors, on here, I think that TomTom will work, but I don't have that kind of money...
If you can get them to pair, that's great, but the software you use will need to be able to see the GPS at the outgoing port that you create on the 9100...
hope this helps a little.

Bluetooth GPS, T-Mobile MDA... May God Make This Thing Work

Ok I've pretty much tried everything, been browsing the boards for over 6 hours for solutions. I've tried everything and just flat out can not get my Bluetooth GPS to work with preetty much any software I've tried. Using the T-Mobile MDA USA model here with Windows Mobile 5.0.
I did the registry tweak and managed to get the GPS Icon in my connections section. Messed with all the settings there, no luck.
I'm using a Ambicom BT-GPS that I used to use with my IPAQ 6315. Worked flawlessly with IGuidance but no luck. The MDA see's the device, successfully pairs the device. But no matter what settings I try to use I just can't get anything good to happen here. Should I abandon the Ambicom GPS? Is it just not going to work with the MDA? Should I try other software? I'm not all about shelling out bucks for software that I'm not sure is going to work.
Is anybody out there using a working bluetooth GPS setup with the USA T-Mobile MDA? What are you using, what are you running and what hoops did you have to jump through to get it working? I don't mind spending a little bit of money if I know it's going to work.
You did not state which model ambicom gps receiver you have but have you tried the updated drivers here for wm5?
http://www.ambicom.com/support/installation/gps/index.htm
hope this helps
Sorry bout that, it's the basic 1.0 version, BT-GPS...
Apparantly they don't let me download it because I don't send them enough money. That only works with their version of the navigator which is basically the IGuidance software re-branded. I do however have the 2.1 version of IGuidance.
That may be your problem then - try to get wm5 drivers for your device - not sure where from.
I am not a gps expert but few of the readers have praised the holux 236 gps and works with the wizard - and has the new gps chip
see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44567&highlight=gps
For some reason, my first Holux GPSlim 236 did the same thing (Mapopolis this time). Surprisingly, an exchange did the trick. If you have a friend with a PDA, I'd suggest he try it too and see if it isn't a bad unit. That's the way I found out.
JB
I have had a huge problem with getting GPS software to work with my MDA... the only marginal success I had was when i got Tomtom Navigator working with my Holux GPSlim 236. At first it didnt work, and I thought I hit a road block. But I switched the outgoing Com ports and got it working. But then I realized that I only had the Great Britain maps, so i downloaded the California maps, but the software wont work. I gave up on Tomtom and am going another route. I really cant get it working. Here is the link where I got the software for Tomtom. All other programs wouldnt work because there is an incompatability with Windows Mobile 5.0. This file works. http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3410079 Good luck.
Going a bit off topic (and not very helpful), but i was amazed to find out the BT Handsfree and BT GPS works at the same time
I'm dead happy to be able to talk and use TomTom at the same time. Everyone i asked said you cant use to BT devices at the same time. Great stuff.
Yes I do enjoy the fact that BT handsfree and BT GPS work in conjunction on my Wizard... really nice.
As for the original poster's issues. I use iGuidance with my Wizard (8125) and it was a bit confusing to get going at first. This is what I had to do.
1. Pair the GPS and the Wizard
2. Select the Com Ports tab and set up a new OUTGOING port, it should default to com6. I would uncheck the secure connection box as I don't think you have to have a secure connection to your GPS, but thats just me. If it doesn't work try checking it.
3. In IGuidance select the tools, GPS options, COM Port, and set it to com 6 just like it defaulted to com 6 in the settings above.
4. Tap the GPS icon and see if you have data streaming over the BT GPS connection. Hopefully you do!
I find that iGuidance is a bit strange in that it wants to hit the GPS on the port so it actively goes to the GPS it just does not sit there and wait so that makes things a bit strange. Also you most likely need the 2.1.3.2NA version on your MDA. All other 2.1.3 versions have an issue and won't display the 3D view at all on QVGA devices... its a known issue that they have fixed in this version. Annoying as the DVD did not have this version on it and I ran into the problem and was annoyed until I went to their site and found the issue fixed.
