What wm6 is compatible with mda - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Can wm6 made for tmobile wing or other htc phones run on an unlocked mda wizard?

No you will need a ROM made specifically for the wizard - other devices may have different hardware (graphics chip, GSM module, keyboard controller etc), so they have different drivers built into their OS distributions.
But i don't see a problem here, since there are quite a few WM6 and WM6.1 ROMs for wizard, and i don't see any real need to try putting a ROM from some other device in it.

Why no WM5 exactly?

Looking at the MDA Compact II, the only main difference from our Magician is the processor. All other hardware is presumably the same as the Magician's (memory size is not significant).
So ..... if 3rd party software can run on any of the CPUs, why cant' WM5? Or is it that 3rd party software for the TI OMAP processor is compiled specifically for that CPU?
Just wondering :?
WM5 probably could run on Magician and potentially any device.
I'm not educated enough to answer correctly, but AFAIK anyone can build WM5 for the Magician using platform builder, but getting it work is the problem. We don't have compatible drivers etc specifically written for the device (as you can see with some of the WM5 builds for blue angel). So without proper drivers for all the hardware, it won't be "compatible" with all of the hardware.
Mamaich is the man for this question though. His Wizard ROM should open up doors I imagine.

I'm well aware of the drivers issue but with an MDA Compact II ROM the drivers should work just fine as it is essentially the same hardware. No?
More specifically, my question should be: is it JUST the different processor that won't allow us to use a WM5 Compact II ROM on our Magician? And if it is so, how come? (if 3rd party sofware can run on both processors with the same build?)
Actually, went down to a computer store on Friday and tested the HP IPAQ 1950. It only had 64MB ROM and 32MB RAM and 300MHz but it was very fast to operate which is surprising. Faster than an O2 mini display model.
Note that all display models only have factory settings with software that comes preinstalled. Comparing an O2 mini 64MB RAM/64 MB ROM 416MHz WM2003SE with an HP rx1950 32MB RAM/64MB ROM 300MHz WM 5.0, the rx1950 felt faster plus the HP screen was 3.5" as well.
I guess i they wanted to release an upgrade to WM 5.0 for the O2 mini/iMate JAM they could but why bother because they'll make more money selling the next model with WM 5.0
I think the O2mini noob is absolutely right. They just want to sell new Devices. Why else don't they give an Update to WM5 for XDA II / III although there are unofficial leaks?
Why they don't want to release WM5 for the Magician is pretty obvious now, look at HTC Charmer and HTC Prophet ... but the question is why can't we have a COOKED ROM from the HTC Charmer? What is the technical reason why an HTC Charmer/MDA Compact II ROM does not work on the Magician?
Well for a start the nbf for the t-mob charmer will need to a bit of chopping first to fit on a magician, since its 72mb. plenty of room on the charmers 128mb rom but not for the magician.

Charmer & Magician can they run each others Software?

I get confused (I know its easy) but is it correct to say that any ‘Charmer’ discussions etc should be discussed in the same form as the Magician? I understand these devices named compact and compact II are similar in a lot of ways but not the same in others. With this in mind can it be said that utilities, programs, fixes, tweaks etc would run on both devices providing they are both executing WM5? Thanks in advance
Since there are limited users for Charmers, the admin decided not to have a seperate section for Charmers. Read this
They are very similiar (almost identical) in terms of the physical appearance, BUT they are very well different internally. One of the major differences is that, Magician runs W2003 while Charmer runs WM5. Hence, not all of the fixes and tweaks are interchangable. However, most of the utilities / software (excluding SIM/CID unlocking, ROM flashing) are interchangable since both are running Windows OS (eg. those software that runs on both W2003 and WM5).
In terms of the hardware, the Charmer is more like a HTC Wizard, in many cases. Example, the aWizard used for flashing ROM can be used for Charmer. The lokiwiz used by Wizard to perform SIM unlock can be used for Charmer as well. As for for fixes and tweaks, those from other WM5 units (Wizard, Prophet, Universal, etc) are mostly (not all) applicable to Charmer.
However, due to the similarity in appearance, Charmer stuff are very well inside the Magician forum. So, Magician user, beware
Thanks Hanmin as always much appreciated. So to recap I have some software from my BA that ran on 2003SE this may work? and help and hints etc can be found in both the magician and Wizard forums. Is this correct? As a newly aquired Charmer user I am not sure if this was the right device to buy as it is outside or radically different to the other devices on the forum.
Also since the site changed has the PM function been removed?
Thanks JD76
"I have some software from my BA that ran on 2003SE this may work?" - Yes
"help and hints etc can be found in both the magician and Wizard forums" - Yes, but you may also want to look at the Wiki section for WM5. Goodies are there.
"As a newly aquired Charmer user I am not sure if this was the right device to buy" - After I had it for almost a year, and loafing around this forum, I find that it is not the 'right' device to buy, as I kinda feel isoated with all the Wizard talks here (not the Tytn talk). However, a year ago, the Charmer and Wizard had almost a £100 difference. So, Wizard is not a 'choice' for me, I'm stingy. BUT, having said that, the phone is good enough for me, as I don't really like the keyboard idea as I'm an ex-Palm user.
As for the PM, you can click on the member's name and there is an option on the right for you to send PM.
Thanks Hanmin I agree with you. I'll have a scoot around and see what I can see see. Like your self I am not interested on the Keyboard but Wi-fi would have been handy. Thanks Jd76

WM6 on Alpine 2020i

how can you say its not possible to upgrade 2020i to WM6. The device is fantastic and i compare it with 9100 and is best. And in 9100 its possible. i dont understand.
There is not WM5 on Alpine, how can be WM6 on it ? Yes it is capable of running it but also capable are Himalaya and Blueangel and Magician but there is not WM6 for them
I Disagree

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is WM6 for Blueangel, not official but I have it working on mine.
there is also one for himalaya
makes more sense too that wm6 comes for devices which
already had wm5
being that wm5 and wm6 both are based on win CE5
so many drivers could be compatible
unlike manyy win CE4 drivers (what 2003 is based on)

Struggling with Bluetooth

Hi guys,
Really hoping someone can help me here as getting very frustrated.
First off, I just need to confirm what model of phone I have! It's the MDA Compact II, so I assumed the Charmer, yet does not have WM5 on it, it's WM 2003 SE. Is this still a Charmer...or a Magician?
Originally I had another unit which came direct from TMobile, which had WM5 on it. I lost it. I bought another one off Ebay but it appears to be an older model phone, with WM 2003 SE on it. (Didn't realise this at the time grrrr).
Anyway I bought a Bluetooth dongle the other day to use with my laptop. My only need for it really is to simply transfer files between the laptop and the MDA.
I've installed the software that came with the dongle (Bluesoleil) but I can't see obviously how I am to transfer files. I can pair the devices but they will not connect with each other. Do I need to use FTP? If so, I can see no provision for this on the MDA.
Hayy-elllllp!
Many thanks in advance,
RHF
Hi, the easiest way how to recognize these units is to look at the information about the device (settings - system). The older version (magician) has 416MHz clock of the cpu, newer version (charmer) has only 195MHz clock of the CPU.
It can only be the Magician. There is no Charmer with WM 2003SE and no Magician with WM5.

Buying sftwr 4 upgraded Typhoon 6.1

I have upgraded my SMT5600 (Typhoon) to 6.1.
Now, how do I purchase software from the mobile software houses for the unit (ie., Handango, Pocketgear, etc.)? What parameters would I put into their system to make sure that the software that I was purchasing would work on this unit? Do I put in the phone as an SMT5600 (because then their system will assume that it is a WM2003 system) or do I buy software for a newer HTC unit that has WM6.1 on it?
Thanks

Be careful. you can not buy software for the SMT5600 @ 2k3 because its operating system is too different. You can not even buy the software dedicated to a modern device with wm6.1, because the recent devices have better features (cpu, memory, etc.).. I think the best thing is to focus on devices wm6.1 but test the software before you buy.
I think the HTC S310 which runs WM5 stock is reasonably comparable to the Typhoon in a matter of resolution and memory. The difference between WM2003SE and WM5 is bigger than the difference between WM5 and WM6(.1).
Nevertheless, like the above poster said, be sure to first try out before buying.
