Disappearing SD card possible solution - Shift General

My SD card was disappearing in Vista after system wake up. I was trying to find a pattern of this behavior:
Boot Vista with SD card already in the slot - SD is visible
Sleep.
Wake up - card is not there, yellow mark in device manager. Inserting, re-inserting card gives no result. Still no SD.
Here is solution ( worked for me at least, Vista with all updates, NO SP1)
1. Remove SD card
2. Boot to vista
3. Insert SD card. It should appear in My Computer.
4. Wait 5 sec.
5. Remove card.
6. Wait 5 sec.
7 Insert card back on. Make sure it appears.
8. Remove again.
9. Insert again. Repeat this couple of times and make sure that it appears all the time you have it insert it.
10. Leave card in.
11. Restart Vista - NOT SLEEP - FULL RESTART
12. Card should be visible after reboot.
13. Put it to sleep. Wake up - card should be there
14. Repeat sleep/wake up procedure couple of times to make sure that it works.
Again, it worked for me 100% and might work for you as well.

Does this problem happen with SP1 installed???

i had this problem too.
after installation of sp1 no problems.
i've only the probloem that after suspension my system recognise the sd like a new inserted device.

update
here is some update when you install it the problem will be FIX.
here is FIX for your problem
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948278/

It seems the solution but there isnt any download link except contact microsoft.....

It seems that MS will mail the hotfix file(s) within eight working hours, after you begged for it (using the first link on the MS page).
I'm waiting.....

Here goes. It seems to works correctly by now....

Has anyone tried this yet???
When I download this file it downloads as "attachment.php" instead of the file above. I can't open it and I am thinking it is probably better if I don't........

It works. Rename the file to "blabla.zip" or something like that, open it, start the msi file, restart the Shift and the sd card is always there. At least for the last 50 minutes.

I changed the name to Blabla.zip and then tried to run the file and it says "cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive."
What am I doing wrong?

Right click, left click, doesn't change anything for me, I was left clicking the first time and I just get that file that I can't open.

sp1 installed?

The hotfix doesn't help for me. Don't have SP1,but SD doesn't come back from hibernation.
The method in post 1 is actually working until I hibernate (not sleep).

.i think thatb sp1 goes to resolve some problem, i suggest you to try the install. or i don't know, i've unistalled the utility of hybernation from "hd cleaning" and when i go to suspend the shift everything goes well.
my sd card goes to resume everytime i retake vista to suspend mode, but after it works fine.
i suggest you to try with sp1.
you can make a backup with vista business utility and then try with sp1.
if something goes wrong you may recover vista by the backup.
try..
sorry but i don't see others solutions.

I could try installing SP1, but I want to use HDD hibernation. So I guess you are at the same stage than me, as suspend properly works with the SD

Yes SP1 in installed, If I boot up computer from off state I can see the SD card, but even if I just take the card out and insert it again I can't read or see the card in explorer..... Its getting worse.

1. Make sure your card is not locked by the "lock" switch (like on sd cards)
2. Put your card in card reader on your PC and make sure that your MapSettings.cfg is NOT "read only" that should work and it is nothing to do wit TT version.
3. If #2 fails than with your card in your card reader on your PC select all the files, rightclick to properties and than select "read only" to make all files read only and click apply. Than do the same again but deselect read only this time and click apply. That should work. Don't wory about any system files because thaey will not change status.
Hope this helps
eureka !!!!
it works....the.cfg file was locked..
thanks guys and a very useful tip for all !!!

Storage card flashing problem.. "No image file!"

Hello everybody,
2 days ago i flashed the dutty r5 NOR by accident, should have been NLD.
I cannot understand NOR whatsoever so i tried to re-flash my phone with the NLD version, but when i go into bootloader mode it cant find the image file. Im sitting at 90% battery charge.
What i do:
1) USB connection between phone and pc.
2) Copy + Paste the TOPAIMG.NHB in my storage card.
3) Disconnect USB between phone and pc.
4) Power off the phone (by holding the power button and press yes)
5) Press and hold volume down button and the power button
6) I see a rainbowscreen with the specs i persume from my phone
7) for 0,5 sec, i see the following:
Loading...
No image file!
8) Rainbowscreen again, and on the bottem 'serial' in the white color.
What did i do wrong? It should work..
Its very annoying to have a phone in a language you dont understand
Thanks in advance
J-r0en
Edit:
Currently i cant flash through my pc with active synch connection because my laptop is back to the factory for repair.
Cant find the Cd that came with the phone to install windows mobile device center, which is for vista+ , and this pc is xp professional. :\
2) Copy + Paste the TOPAIMG.NBH in my storage card.
Further try formatting your SD-card with FAT32. That in combination with renaming your file to the right extension, should work.
Thanks for the response.
I made a typo in the openingspost.
The image file on the storagecard is TOPAIMG.NBH.
I flashed the current ROM via the storagecard so it should
be fat32. I'll try to reformat the storagecard and see what happens.
*thumbs up*
It didnt work, any other ideas ?
my original rom was in another language, maybe that aint allowed? to flash a new rom in a different language.
True, unless you have HSPL this won't work.
Yes i am aware of that. I already have HSPL installed on my phone, as i've done phone flashing on via my storage card before.
I re-installed HSPL, just to try , but it still doesnt work

Nope, no typo's, "TOPAIMG.NBH" just like that =p
Have you tried TOPAIMG.nbh (lower case .nbh)?
I had the same issue flashing the original 6.5 OEM flash and Dutty's.
I have a 16GB card. I think that may be the issue. Perhaps 8GB or less will be recognised.
Anyway. All I did was use the wrapper method.
I booted to HardSPL and then connected it to the PC, ran the wrapper file included with the firmware and went through the modified firmware wizard on the PC and all sorted

In case anyone else comes across this thread while having this problem...
I had the same problem with my Rhodium. The problem disappeared when I switched from formatting that particular SD card with FAT to FAT32.
So, try FAT32 and see if that helps!
Finally!!!! took me forever to fix this. So my problem was the same, after flashing a custom ROM thru RUU, I got stuck in the splashing screen and kept getting "No image file" in HardSPL. So my solution was "SWITCH my FAT32 8GB microSD with a FAT32 4GB microSD". That's all! hope this will help someone else too.
Happy New Year!!!
Well i didnt fix it, still didnt flashed the rom that i wanted (in dutch) but i went back to WWE, that díd work.. eventually

Memory card disappeared!

Heya! I asked this is in the respective ROM-thread aswell, but noone seems to answer =p
I just installed a new ROM on my device (link can be found at bottom if needed). However, since the install, my file explorer no longer finds my memory card. It has on all previous roms, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Any ideas?

My X2 has this huge problem too. Its very iritating, because SD card disappeare in hour from inserting to X2. Sometimes it solves when I remove and insert card again but usually I must soft reset. Is there exist any solution to fix this?

i had the same problem, i dont know if it has something to do with it but i think that disabling the "energy save" (or something like that) helped, now i see the card always, however:
I have an autorun app (Garmin), usually when you insert the memory card it asks to be executed...
Now i get that execution request like 3 or 4 times by day, meaning the card gets disconnected somehow..
I´ll try this, but where can I find energy save?
Em I only one who have this problem? There must be a fix. However the X2 is unusable...
happens to me to
X2 mem card that came with the phone (original rom)
one time its there next its not (may come back but most times i need to reinsert it or reboot my x2)
Hi guys,Had the same sd card problem with my x2 before, from a week it is visible all the time, first I start with removing the card and putting it back again,no results, than I formatted it with a card reader(be careful here should be formatted fat32) than it was stable for a while, than it started again,I don't know how I managed to fix it but I installed some program called SKKV.Software.SKTools.v4.1.25.4 and formatted the card from the menu there than put all my contents back again from my pc through active sync and now more than a week it is there working every time I try to enter it,hope that I've help wish u luck

[Solved] Reboot WP7 auto hard resets....

So after I flashed WP7, everything works fine. But whenever I turn off the phone (long press end call key) and open it again the next day. All my settings are gone (i.e. Hard reset without me doing anything). Also same thing happens when I change my regional settings and click that link to reboot my phone. Why is this? Hope someone can helpme out.
EDIT:
EVERYTHING IS WORKING. Data is saved after reboots.
Steps:
1. Flash WP7 like usual WITH SD card inserted
2. Wait for WP7 to load up.
3. Physically REMOVE SD card from phone.
4. Restart phone
5. When phone is booting up (white HTC screen). Put back in the SD card
6. You should then see the WP7 setup screen.
I hope this helps out other people who had similar problems with stock hd2 2GB SD card.

sorry for the stupid q, but do you have an sd-card inserted into your phone? cause it seems like you don't. wp7 uses sd card for some off system files.

i bet its not compatible, this sounds like the shipped 2gb card and i had the same problems like many others with the shipped sd card
-> have you got the first start steps?
i think no
remove your sd card, go to settings, info and reset your phone
after this everything will work (until your storage is gone)

[Q] SD Card Trashed, any ideas?

Hoping someone may have a way out of this:
Running 'BTTF' ROM which I installed on a 4gb SD card in my EU HD2, all was working fine. I have an 8gb card which I know works with the ROM and I figured, somewhat foolishly it seems, that if I rebooted the phone with the blank 8gb card in the handset, it would be formatted for use in the phone automatically.
To cut a long story short, on reboot, the phone gave an error saying SD card had changed, not working or not compatibe - replace & reset etc. Tried a hard reset but stil no go. The card now seems to be unusable - windows won't recognise it, SD Formatter says 'Card Unsupported' (even though it was supported yesterday!).
What's worse, on re-inserting the original 4gb SD, the phone gives the same error, so I have effectively lost my BTTF installation. Reflashed back to stock wm6.5, phone says 'insert card' when i try to format.
Tried searching here but found no similar situations that people have resolved. Sure, I can just replace the card and re-install, but my nature is to try and figure it out, lol.
Anyone any ideas?
Cheers in anticipation...
Rich
Edit: I've tried the card in 2 different digital cameras to see if I could format it and both reported 'card error'. Does seems as though its beyond salvation...
Same problem, nokia can't format it either
Comforting to know I'm not alone erikstelt. Can anyone bring this to the attention of the Dev forum please? Unable to ask there because of post count...
Have searched n searched but to no avail...
Is is possible that your cards are now locked? I think this happened to me once as well. This is what I did.
1.) Reflash back to the stock wm6.5
2.) Reinstall Magldr 1.13
3.) Then flash the "Back To The Future" [xbmod-yuki] ROM with your card in the phone. Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
4.) Use the cab sender to install the Dev Unlock cab found here: http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/CABS/TWEAK.CAB/
5.) If it won't install, update to the nodo build (7392) and try again. That's what I did.
6.) Run the unlock app to unlock the card. If successful, immediately remove the card from the phone. You can now put in the other card and run it again.
7.) Now try to see if both cards are recognized on your windows machine or in SD Formatter. If so, reformat them for use again. Hope this helps.
Hi guys!
Sorry to hear that you are having problems WP is a little picky about the mem-card so best not to play around with it to much!
Anyway as an alternative I can report having had good results with ultimate boot cd Linux seems to be happy to unlock encrypted cards as long as you use the correct kernel... Give it a shot! Can be found on Google etc.
Regards!

I would recommend the above quoted option, as this happened to me, however, i used DEV_STORAGELOCK instead of DEV_UNLOCK.
Found in http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/CABS/TWEAK.CAB/SDCARD/
If you get errors trying to apply the DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab, as I did, using the cab updater in win7 in this situation, you might try this trick (it always works for me).
Plug in HD2
Open Zune
Let Zune detect device
Open WP7 Update Cab Sender (put DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab in folder first), BUT DO NOT UPDATE JUST YET
Unplug/disconnect your Internet connect, then re-connect (kind of like the method of forcing Zune to update WP7 to Mango)
Immediately update using (S)end or (B)ackup in WP7 Update Cab Sender (may have to press several times as win7 attempts to reconnect to the interent.
Again, this worked for me, can't guarantee that it will work for you.
