Problem with MultiSIM and HTC Shift - Shift General

Hello
Some days ago I received my HTC Shift and I am very satisfied!
Unfortunately there is one strange Problem:
I am using a MultiSIM by T-Mobile, that means I have one number for multiple devices.
If the HTC Shift would make phone calls and someone calls me, the shift and my MDA Vario III would be ringing.
When I activate the Modem in my Shift it seems the Shift receives phone calls and then denies them! So nobody can call me when I am using my shift, since all calls are directed to my mailbox
Has anyone of you an idea what can I do?
(btw: I unlocked my Shift already to full WM6 )

The shift doesnt support phone calls...even if you have on sim card it wont ring
Use it for its gprs/edge/3g and sms sending n receiving

Hello
thats exactly what I like to use the shift for. I am not interested in making phone calls with it.
But the Shift is blocking calls, which should also arrive on my mobile phone...
I think HTC has made this blocking to avoid connection problems when somebody tries to calls the shift (which is not supported).
Is this right?

Might work?
I don't know for sure about T-Mobile. I am using a similar service (they call it "FlexiCard") from E-Plus. They have a function that allows you to designate one of your SIM cards as the primary card. This is the card that will receive calls (and SMS) first, only if this card is not active (phone turned off) or busy a call or SMS will be routed to the other card.
However, there seems to be a service difference between T-Mobile and E-Plus: I have the SIM card in my Shift still designated as the "primary" card. If the modem is turned on, this is interpreted by E-Plus as "busy", so calls go to my phone (which holds the "secondary" card). If the modem is turned off, the SIM card in my Shift is obviously inactive and not visible to the mobile network. So the only reason for me to switch "primary" vs. "secondary" would be to continue receiving SMS messages on my phone rather than the Shift. Unfortunately, for SMS E-Plus does not bother whether the "primary" card is active / busy or not, SMS always go to that card (understandable when you look at how SMS works on mobile networks).
If you don't find any information about switching primary/secondary card in your documentation that came with the card I suggest contacting the T-Mobile hotline. They should be able to tell you whether this functionality is available with your "MultiSIM" and how to switch "primary" between the cards.

Thank you mw65719 four your tip.
I just phoned with T-Mobile support.
They don't support it like Eplus to switch between SIMCards.
It is just possible to define a primary card for SMS service, not for phone calls. Whenever someone calls me both phones are ringing.
So I will have to buy a new contract with T-Mobile just for data transfer, which is more expensive than the combination of phone/data contract.

I have the same issue with the MultiSIM from t-mobile. Both phones (the other one is a Touch) are ringing, after the first ring a line-busy message is generated.
Seems that the Shift in canceling the incoming call after the first ring.
Does anyone has an idea to solve this problem instead of splitting the MultiSIM into two separate contracts?

Have just opened a suuport case at HTC Europe concering this issue. Seems to be a German (and t-mobile) specific problem.....

find out how the call canceled
a: is it the 3g modem that set the networkstatus to -> data service only
b: or a apllication that will call canceled - reason busy
see here what i mean
http://www.t-mobile.de/downloads/laptop/hyperterminalmulti-sim-anleitung.pdf

I think it's part of the WinMo/SnapVue side.
Vista enables a lan connection with WinMo for internet.
So there could be settings in the registry to enable/disable this busy status.
I try to find somethin, but unfortunately i'm not a pro like others here in the Board.

Where are you folks, on Planet Mars, everyone and all documents I read say that the Shift cannot support phone calls???????

I had some phone calls with T-Mobile Business support and they told me a trick how to activate the phone function, but I dont get this to work.
What I have to do is the following:
1. Download and install a hyper terminal application on Windows mobile (I found http://www.cambridgevx.com (Server seems to be down at the moment))
2. Open a direct connection to the modem
3. Enter the following commands:
3a: AT_odo?
(this should show 1 which means speech is deactivated
3b: AT_odo=0
(speech is beeing activated)
4. Reset Windows Mobile and the phone should be activated
I was told this is known to work on some data modems and should work on the HTC Shift too.
But always I try setp 2 I get an error "cannot open data connection"
Has anyone an idea?

problem there is no phone pad aka dial pad in production models as far as i know. so even if u can re enable it u wont have any images etc... it'll most likely require a custom rom or if we get lucky a cab.

I am not interested in using the phone pad.
I like to solve the busy line problem (read some posts above). When activating the speech on modem side, this would be solve and I could use my Shift with my MultiSIM-Card

souds interesting ! .. have you try some scenarios ? with 3G enabled, with 3G disabled, with wifi enabled, with wifi disabled ... etc ?
I can't try myself.. but as there are data connection through 3G.. I think that it is possible to find a solution to the step 2 !

Anybody found a solution for this?
Getting my shift soon, and im going for a twin sim solution. would suck if i cant get phone calls on my kaiser cos the shift is on in snap vue mode and rejects the calls.

I am experiencing the same Problem with my Shift.
It is crazy, because my Mobile rings a halt time, then the Shift rejects the call. Afterwards, I have to call back.
The problem should be able to solve, but you have, anyhow, to tell the shifts modem not to reject voice calls. Still, I do not know how to tell the modem

Hello?
Has anyone resolved this issue? I'm a new MultiSIM user, and the idea of not having any internet with my shift is ****ing me off (that would make it as useful as a brick ).
Any resolution is appreciated.
Cheers.

HI @ all, i don´t know, if you fixed that problem.
I´m a multi SIm user too. With the original Radio Version (shipped with german SHIFT) the same problem. After that, i update the radio Version to the Phone edition radio Version:
see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486234
(but here always my WinCE Side was really slow??) so I Downgrade back the phone edition
1.27.35.28 and ce OS version 5.2.1620 (I00 ROm I think)
And now, Phone is working, and never the Multisim usage hangs up.
I don´t know why, i play every 1 month with Shift and upgrade, downgrade something, then the most time shift is not in use, so i don´t make a history what happend...
:-(
But with the new radio Version it will work.
maybe this rom work too:
Cmonex posted another radio for backup. This radio is for original rom (ie all other roms from the forum). Look for the link on page 5, or here
http://rapidshare.com/files/20211808...ift1582123.zip <- this is not for the phone or for this rom

it happens with all multiple sims when you have all the devices activated!!!...
when you have multiple sims and you have all the devices open...
which device should accept the call ??
it does not work as douplex land line... not all of your mobile devices should ring at the same time ... obviously the one that was opened first and got the signal from your provider should get the line...
the twin sim solution works fine with me ... plus unlimited internet access from phone and the shift...
BUT one device open at a time ...

Data's working. Calls and texts aren't.

I've just bought myself a second-hand O2 XDA Exec. I've unlocked it (thanks Buzz!), and everything was looking ok. In fact I'm typing this via my 3G connection. WiFi works well and the signal strength is great.
Unfortunately I can't make or receive phone calls. And I can't send or receive text messages either. All data services work perfectly, ActiveSync connects with my exchange server for Push mail etc, and the internet works perfectly with all 'connected' programs and pIE, etc.
When I do try to make a phone call, the dialler app just says "Dialling..." for a few seconds and then "Call Ended" There's never a dial/ring tone and when attempting to send a text message, I just get the notification: "Your message could not be sent". If I try to make a Video Call, I get a message to say that "Call Bars are active" despite the fact that my SIM works for video calls on other phones.
Have I bought a dodgy phone? Is this how a nicked phone behaves, or is there something else wrong with it? What baffles me is that I can use the net and use e-mail as much as I want, but phone calls are impossible. My T-Mobile SIM works in my other 3G phones, so I'm confused....I've tried various ROM's but they all behave the same way. Oh, and every time I turn the phone on, the STK server throws up a "Message Sent" dialogue. (Which I'm sure my old JasJar never did)
Help! Have I failed to sim-unlock this exec properly, is it nicked, or is it just knackered? I'll be off to the shop for a replacement soon, if I can't get this sorted out...
The first thing I'd try would be a hard reset. Don't know if there's another solution. Hopefully someone else will have another solution!
Tried that, and I've re-flashed with the latest Qtek and i-mate ROM's.
I think I'll have another go at "unlocking" the SIM cad, just to be sure, and I'll try another different ROM. But I think this'll end up being taken back for a refund unless anyone can give me some inspirational advice!

Since you say you've tried various ROMS, advising you to hard reset is pretty pointless.
The call and text behaviour you are getting is typical of a phone which is lost/stolen and barred. I always assumed that a barred phone would also not be able to use gprs & 3G. The wifi would still work though.
Are you able to use T-Mobiles data connection? What happens if you call the phone?

Nope, 3g networks defo don't check the imei register when you log on. ( Shhhh, the operators don't want you to know)
Dunno about a GPRS connection but it sounds like the handset is barred.
Richard
If I call the phone, a lady tells me that "calls are not being connected to this number at present". If I put the SIM into another phone, it instantly starts working again.
Tried a Vodafone SIM, same story. Also tried a Tesco mobile SIM (which piggybacks on the O2 network) and that's even worse, there's no recognition of any network at all when I put that one in.
I think this thing is going back to the shop at lunchtime...
Well, CheckMEND says that my IMEI has NOT been reported as lost or stolen, but I assume that's just for people who register and use www.immobilise.com rather than the network operator themselves?
I may give O2 a call to see what they say before I go shouting at the store that sold it to me, but I think that the only answer is that it's been blocked somehow. Hmmm. You'd think there would be an obvious way of finding out for sure...
EDIT: OK, O2 wouldn't tell me anything, it's confidential you see...
Took the phone back to the shop and they reckon the previous owner probably didn't pay is phone bill, so O2 barred the phone, therefore it wouldn't have been reported as lost/stolen. Which makes sense.
At least I now have my money back, and now I know that barred phones are only barred for voice calls, not Data connections too...never knew that!
Off to find another Universal to buy now...

Athena as second device

i wanted to know how do you guys use athena as a second device?
ideally id like to get a second device dedicated to voice calls only...
but i still want to browse and recieve my emails / sms via the athena..
is there anyway to call from your second device paired with athena using bluetooth ?
I use the Athena as a second device, but I have a "dual sim" subscription (I have two sim cards on the same subscription, both phones rings during incomming calls).

hmm this is interesting how did you do that ?
is it identical sim cards or different ones ?
and whats your provider?
My provider is the norwegian Telenor, and you can add the "Twin-SIM" to any subscription. You then have two SIM-cards with different phone numbers, but both will receive incomming phone calls on your "main phone number". However, if you send SMS from your second SIM card the "sender number" not be the "main phone number".
I like it alot. I have the second SIM card in the Athena, and the main card in TyTN or S620 (depending on my mood ).

Yes. Sorry I forgot to mention that. But I have turned on "hide Call ID" on the Athena, and I mainly use S620/TyTN for calling...
i c so its basicly two numbers?
hmm i talked to my service provider and they dont have this facility...
i want ideally athena for sms and data and my htc touch for voice...
basicly it would be ideal if the touch could act as a bluetooth headset
Does anyone know if T-Mo UK support this? I'd really like to use my Athena for data and my Tytn for voice on the same account.

Have you tried the LG Style-I Bluetooth HandSet with the Athena? I picked one up at Verizon Wireless for 24.95 and it works great with the Athena. I use my plantronics Bluetooth when driving, but stick the small Style-i handset in my front pocket, when walking around or just working in the office. The handset can be used to dial, answer or pick up calls just like another phone, without reaching for the athena. Has called ID, Missed call, etc. Works for me.
i had similar query last year....wanted to use my exec as a headset for the comp...to cut the story short...it could not be done with the MS BT Stack....however it might be possible with another BT Stack on the touch (sorry forgot the name of the stack)

Unable to make or receive calls

I wonder if anyone can help with a fault on my M3100. So far I've searched this website for answers with no luck. I have Hard Reset the phone, upgraded the Radio, all without any luck.
About 6 days ago my M3100 suddenly stopped being able to make or receive calls. Whenever I try to dial out the call drops out before being established, and if I try to call in to the phone the caller receives a series of beeps.
At first it seems to be a SIM problem, but the Vodaphone SIM is fine in any other phone. If I put my Orange SIM in the phone it just comes up as "No Service".
I'm at the end of the line in what to do and it doesn't seems to make any sense.
Any comments, suggestions, advice or help very much appreciated.
..... Further symptom details:
I can send and receive text message with my Vodaphone SIM installed and access WiFi and GPRS networks. Orange SIM won't connect at all! Both SIMS work fine in a standard phone ! Only clue I can think of here is that the Vodaphone SIM is UMPTS and GSM where the Orange is GSM only. The spare phone I tested them in was GSM only.
Could the GSM part of the M3100 be stuffed ?
I'm stumped for the time being!! It doesn't seem to make any logical sense. Maybe any of you who know the in's and out's of how the device communicates might find some clues in that...
Heeeeelp !
More details..
I've just added a few more details on the symtoms.. maybe the few extra clues might yeild some thoughts from someone !
Have you checked the band selection in Settings > Phone?
Is it possible that the phone could have become blacklisted? How long have you had it? How did you buy it? (This is probably NOT it, since the text still works.)
Have you tried a tweaker to enable HSPDA?
Had the phone for over 12 months so Blacklisted shouldn't be the issue. I've tried all the band selections including Auto but no luck.
Haven't tried the Tweaker... do you have any details on that...
Up until it suddenly stopped working it worked on all networks..
Another possible clue is that I was "Roaming" in France for a month and it was there that I made my last successful call. I have UK SIMS... I have an Australian SIM which I'll try now to see if that makes any difference..
Tried an Australian SIM roaming in the UK ! The service connects on two available networks,Vodaphone and TMobile but not on Orange and O2 (like with the Orange UK SIM). Same fault as the before with the networks it will connect to.
This seems to eliminate the SIM or Network being the fault and isolate the fault to the Device...
probably not the issues, but worth a try?
I live in a very strong 3G + HSPDA ares, but cant make or recieve anycalls tho texts work on T-mobile, i need to have my phone in 2G mode, and calls work fine???
If i leave my house and go a few miles 3G works as it should able to call and recieve etc!
Can't seem to work out how to force the phone onto 2G or 3G ... if anyone can advise I'll give that a try!
I have had very similar problems to this.
Please see my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325149
I do think this is some sort of network problem as after I posted the issues in the thread above, I left home and travelled about 6 miles and the signal came back and the phone worked fine.
Today, I have been able to make and receice calls but all of a sudden I got cut off from a call then could not make or receive calls (incoming goes straight to voicemail).
I can however use my Orange SIM without problem and both Vodafone and Orange SIMs work fine in other phones.

You can also go into Settings > Phone > Band.
If the band tab does not appear (to the right of the network tab), then you may need to do a registry tweak.
From the very helpful wiki:
Enable/Disable GSM/UMTS Band Selection
Cingular kindly disables anything useful about the network on the 8525. To enable the Band Selection Tab on your Phone settings page, set the following:
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000001
To disable, simply clear the value to 0:

"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000000

Have travelled outside England again this week and... well the phone works fine roaming on my UK Vodaphone SIM. Seems very ODD.. only thing I can put any logic to is a problem with the GSM part of the phone. It's working here in Stockholm on the 3G network no problem.
Anyone advise how I force the phone to be on GSM and 3G so I can test this theory. The BAND settings under SETTINGS>PHONE don't seem to give you this control over how it connects..
Hey i got the same problem anyone solved it yet!
Hi Sunnyb1
Since my last post I returned to England where the phone was useless. No SIM cards would work, some would not register at all but my Vodaphone SIM seemed to register but as before it would not receive calls, nor could I make calls out.
Now I'm in Australia with an Australian SIM card. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL !!
The phone works just fine !!
It's a mystery indeed...
Without any knowledge of the ins & Outs of how a SIM card / Network / and the phone work together it's impossible for me to arrive at any conclusive logic.
Hopefully someone might stand up to the plate and offer some explanation !
Anyone from HTC out there ??????

I got the phone and it was working perfectly on Orange then i tried unlocking it and ever since it has come up with "NO Service" like you everytime i put a Orange Sim in the phone it does not show up.. but when i put a Vodafone sim it works perfectly i tried reflashing the radio's many times
I unlocked this particular phone 6months before this problem showed up so I don't think the Unlock on it's own is the cause. What's particularly baffling is that a SIM may not work with the phone in one country.. but in another it works fine.
..... another country that is !
Hey Steve i have found out what the problem is after hours of research
I found this of another website
Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or
O2 sim into a blacklisted handset you
phone will not show any signal strength
at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a
"SIM card registration failed" message
will also be displayed. If your handset is an
Ericsson then an "Invalid Mobile" message
will be displayed. For most other manufacturers
the handset will simply show no signal!
Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile sim into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!
........
This means the handset you got is stolen or someone has blacklisted it ... i got mine of EBAY! and reading that i figured that it is stolen
It wont work in the UK but it will work everywhere else in the world
Mmmm... that's interesting Sunnyb1. If my phone is blacklisted then happened in JULY this year which was 8 months after I bought the phone. I bought the phone legit .
Can anyone advise what the "Blacklisting" process is.. I assume its done by using the IMEI number.
Who is the rightful owner of a handset and can any phone be blacklisted by anyone, and possibly by mistake ?
Would unlocking the phone from Orange cause a phone to be blacklisted ??
How can you "Un-blacklist" a phone.
Answered my own question here......
This website seems to have the answers
http://www.unlockme.co.uk/blacklist.html
OK... still on this thread. Can anyone advise how you find out which network in the UK has blocked your an IMEI number. I gather any of the UK networks can block any IMEI and it's not unknown for errors to be made. But only the network that blocks the IMEI can Unblock it.
Thought I'd post this before waiting forever for some call centre dimwit to give me the runaround.
Thanks...

Please help - receiving phone calls

Hello,
I bought a new HTC advantage x7501 unlocked, trying to use it on Fido network, however whenever I call the unit, the unit does not being to ring until at least the second ring, usually the third and often I miss a phone call completely. The signal strength is at its maximum when tried this. I did do a hard reset, searched google and all nada. Can someone please help ?
Thanks
Just tonight I was running call tests on my unit, and I see the same 2-ring delay. Doesn't matter if its asleep or fully on. I still have plenty of time to answer before voicemail kicks in. That delay is dictated by your carrier.
What sim card are you running? Do you know? Is there any way the check if you have the 64k or the 128k? I found some threads not related specifically to the X7501 but to the HTC hermes, that if you have the 64k sim card and an HTC hermes you might get some communication troubles, but that thread was pretty old and I'm sure HTC fixed that issue already.
Anyhow, hard reset doesn't solve this problem, and I do not even know how to begin addressing this issue.
Try some or all of the following:
Make sure your ringtone is in the Windows folder, or the ringtones folder.
Try a .wav ringtone (yes, i prefer mp3 too - wavs are too big)
Tweaks2k2.net has a disable 3 second delay option - there is probably a registry key somewhere.

which radio version are u using sometimes it is releated to the radio version and upgrading or downgrading to another rdio helps the problem. missing calls are mostly releated to radio version of devices.
I have not flashed this unit at all, and the default ringtone is there and yes I tried changing it too.
I'm begging to suspect that this might be a sim card issue. I'm using SM-32 from fido, is there one that is sm-64 or 128? google search did not reveal much..
Thanks
hi,
i use phonealarm software with my athena, and i have the next issue:
if i active phonealarm, the phone sounds after the second or third ring,
but if i deactive phonealarm, the phone sounds just after the first rings.
use you PA soft?
note: i have tested and obtained the same results storing the rings at the
storage card, microdrive or programs memory. the problem is PA !!
next probe:: enable PA but set to "System" the "ring" and "ring type" parameters
at the all profiles. the result is fine: plays the configured sounds after the
first ring [i use mp3]
S.O.S
Is PhoneAlarm software enabled by default? I can not seem to be able to locate this anywhere on the phone?
Plus I got a little bit further with Fido, I have disabled my voicemail and now the phone rings after the second ring. Does this make any sense to anyone ?

SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, READ:
Simple, the "Radio" code that comes with the x7501 / x7500 unlocked can NOT handle the the "Name Display" feature properly, thus causing the phone to miss class and or ring later. In EU they do NOT have "Name Display", wow. Thats the problem. I wish to that I found the answer sooner, I thought that is the purpose of such boards like these, no? Am I that wrong?

Just need to call your carrier and have them increase the ring count before voicemail picks up. Tonight at dinner my mother complained about this on her phone - it would go to vm after 3 rings. She called cust service and upped it to 6 rings. Problem solved.

Unable to Make/Receive Phone Calls

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction here. First off, I am an AT&T customer who is trying to get the DVP to work on their network. I bought an unlock code off of ebay (which seemed to work), but I cannot make/receive any phone calls. I can get Edge to work just fine and can make and receive text messages but all of my phone end almost as soon as I start them. And if I try to call the phone from my land line its immediately directed to voicemail.
On a side note, I have tried multiple AT&T sim cards and all have the same result. I also tried a co-workers tmobile sim and everything worked like a charm, so I know the phone isn't broken.
Any suggestions?

Can you try turning off 3G if its available as a option?
3G is an option but turning it on/off makes no difference on the phone side of things.
Could the unlock code that I received cause an issue like this? Is there anything in the EM app that could assist in what is going wrong? It makes no sense to me that I can send/receive text messages but I can't make phone calls.
Can u rest the phone and see if it helps?. Also try manually selecting the network.
The reset doesn't seem to help unfortunately. How do you go about manually selecting a network on the DVP? Is that in the EM app?

No, it should be as a option in the settings->cellular.
Does it even show the network that the device is current on?
It does show its on AT&T, but there is no option to change it I can see. I also configured the APN at the bottom to wap.cingular, but that didn't fix the phone issue.
BTW, appreciate your help on this! I am willing to try anything at this point.
Well, APN has nothing to do with Phone call. I think its just for text messages.
Ok..Here is how you do manual selection using AT command. Do this only if you are comfortable and don't blame me for any screw-up
Go to EM App->Protocol(password 6336#)->TMO->AT Command
No click the input field and type the following(at is automatically populated).
Manually search for the network:
AT+COPS=?
The above command will list all the available network. Once you do that, take a clear pic or write it down exactly and post it here. I will then give the formatted command to register it manually.
APN is for wireless internet access.

I'm a coworker of the OP and here's what we got when we entered that command (formatted as it appears in the window):
+COPS:
(2,"Cingular","Cingular","310410",0),
(1,"Voicestream
Wire","VSTREAM","310260",2),
(1,"Voicestream
Wire","VSTREAM","310260",0),
(1,"","","310420",0),(1,"","","310420",2),,
(0,1,2,3,4),(0,1,2)
OK

Here is the formatted command(for ATT Sim Cards):
AT+COPS=1,2,"310410"
Let me know what is the output and if it succeeds.
To be honest, I didn't even know that this was possible for the DVP yet. I've asked for unlock codes from T-Mobile every month that I've had the device (first attempt January 7th) to no avail.

Entered this in and it returned OK.
It did not enable us to make/receive calls though. It still acts like it's going to dial and just ends abruptly, and calls made to the phone still go straight to voicemail.
Also, just for fun I tried dialing using ATDT and a number and it returned NO CARRIER. Not sure if that will help narrow this down or anything.

I am facing the same issue. Using Unlocked Dell Venue Pro in India - worked wonderfully for a week, and then stopped making calls. my Problem is different. i can receive calls, send receive SMS and browse the internet (on 3G )as well. But Cant make outgoing calls.
Out of curiosity, those that have problems -
1. did u unlock using the AT command?
2. After unlocking, did u change/try changing sim cards (even if its from the same carrier)?

First off, thanks again for your help on this.
1. The unlock code was purchased from some website and when the AT&T SIM was inserted, it prompted for a code. So no, did not originally use the AT command. Is there a way to relock and try this process again?
2. Yeah, we tried a few different AT&T sim cards with the same result. We tried another T-Mobile sim and that worked perfectly.
