live messenger working on the windows mobile side - Shift General

After "liberating" a device with the tools provided here at this forum, will Live Messenger actually work ?
I saw the video from Modaco and there the icon was visible. Will it work ?

works for me no problem.......

Also worked for me no problem!

My God I love my device
This is just so awesome. The moment I read about being able to restore WM6 for about 75% of full functionality, I ordered mine.
Indeed, anything that is installed on WM6 will work. Now I need to get my GPS receiver to upload it's data to a website where I can download it again to feed to my Windows Mobile applications.
Or... We wait for BT connectivity hacks from this forum Gotspeed to all.

live was even on early rom versions. might still be there but just needs the shorcuts.

Jasjar/Universal: Too many bugs ??

I started yesterday working with my new i-mate Jasjar, and, already, I am lost in so many bugs and bad issues.
1- ActiveSync 4 does not support backup/restore of the device. I know this is a "known" issue, but it is a real bad one!
2- Some programs cannot be installed at all, like SPB PocketPlus. On another hand, all task switchers (and program closers) make problems, and end up by soft resetting the device.
3- A big problem: I cannot uninstall any of the programs I installed, whether on the main memory or the storage card, whether by using ActiveSync (from the desktop), or Remove Programs (in Settings) or any third party software, like SKTools!
4- Synchronizing through ActiveSync is not always straight forward. Sometimes the device is not recognized, or, when recognized, synchronize cannot start, or, when it does start, it never ends.
Did any of you experience any of these problems?
Any suggestions, or we have to wait for a ROM upgrade ?
Spb pocketplus may not be supported by wm05?.Perhaps the next release will work though as i'm getting either the wizard or universal so I hope it does!
personally i wouldnt expect software that worked fine on windows 3.1 to work just as fine on xp.
bugs are ok, it makes the patches more anticipated, and of course, with out this kind of feedback sofware houses wouldn't always reveal the issues before software is released.

dude all of these are software (activesync and windows 5 related) none are related to jasjar...the jasjar is the most stable imate device EVER
yes there are issues between the new active sync and windows and firewall and the antivirus that you run but these are Microsofts faults not jasjars...
to answer your questions
1) this is a bummer.. i really wish they had given the option of backing up device..anywyas thats why you have ppc softwares that do backup..the one working on wm5 is sunnysoft backup..
2)most of the softwares lag behind.. wm5 is out but not all software makers have updated their products..NOTE AGAIN THIS IS NOT JASJARS FAULT..its YOURs you can wait 6 more months by then spbsoftware should have a pocketplus that works on wm5
3)dude again old applications like sktools dont work on wm5... if you want you can use pocket mechanic and memmaid ..they work fine.. for task manager i use dinarsoft handy sweitcher..not only its an excellent application but it works on wm5 aswelll...
4)you have your firewall and antivirus software and to blame for this...not jasjar..for me i had to FORMAT my laptop and install activesync before i turned on firewall and installed an antivirus program...only then did active sync work..and its flawless now.. oen word my personal experience trendmicro2002 doesnt work with AS however 2005 version of pcillin works with its personal firewall set to off...
hope i cleared up a few misconceptions for you
Well,
1) That is annoying. I hadn't noticed that, but I'm sure it'll be addressed in future...
2) As zohaer21 says, that's purely because we have the latest, greatest bleeding edge technology, and the software developers have yet to catch up. (In the meantime, HandySwitcher is working perfectly on my device, no bugs, no crashes, just what it's meant to do!)
3) Have you tried installing anything from a .cab file to see if you still have a problem uninstalling? I'd guess ActiveSync is probably your problem...
4) Can't really help there...I'd suggest removing Activesync completely from your PC and installing it again from scratch. Personally I'm not using the bundled version of ActiveSync (4.1?) because I had an old 4.0.??? already but I don't think I've heard of anyone else with that issue yet so I'd assume it's a problem with your PC installation?

no, but you'd expect software that worked on windows 2000 to work on XP. Why compare something with an 11 year gap to something with a 2 year gap?

True, but MS changed WM5 significantly from WM2003, many more changes than Windows 2000 -> Windows XP. The biggest changes were (1) persistent storage and new memory handling and (2) WM5's compatibility with MS Smartphone apps. I am not surprised a good number of apps aren't working.
By the way, SPB's PocketPlus looks like it works with WM5 because they have screen shots on their web site of it running on a Windows Mobile 5 OS. But it may just not be compatible with the JasJar yet.

It does not depend on that gap but on what they did durring that gap. If you do not change structural things, backwards compatibility can last a long time.
Actually the gap between WM2003SE and WM5 is quite large for some software developers. Notably some applications that synchronise databases (TimeTTRacker, Commontime mNotes) have to be rewritten from the ground up, even though we are only talking about a 1 year gap. Microsoft did change some crucial things, even if it does not show at first glance.
sorry, my post came across a bit bolshy. It wasn't intended.
I meant that developers would hope that they wouldn't have to re-write their apps every few years. I like the changes, because it adds more structure and makes it more of a uniform platform, but we've got to hope that they don't change these very often.
It would help if MS supplied the emulators for WM5 free of charge. (I'm yet to find any)
No worries

SPB Pocket Plus version 3 works just fine on an i-Mate JasJar. Older versions of Pocket Plus will not work on WM5 devices of any kind, so upgrade to Version 3 and you can install it on your jasJar. I'm running it on mine.
hey mat1t dont worry about it,

Correct!
It does work under WM5.0 Just make sure you are on version 3
If you are on Version 3 and still refuses to install, copy the CAB file over the device and execute/install from there.

SPB Pocket plus does install and work. I had to do a hard reset after I initially used my Jasjar and everything worked right. Like email accounts etc. What I would like to see is a program like gb tweak that keeps the gprs allways alive. But so for there is nothing out there. NO problems with my JasJar at all.

Programms where to install...

So whats the best storage for install programms ? Which Programm should be on SD Card and which on Telephone ?
like TT6, any SPB, any SBSH, Resco......
What do you have where installed ???
I install any apps that have today plugins or that I use all the time on the device. Any other apps like satnav etc go on the card.
unwired4:
Thanks for your information...
tried tt6 on the card and on the tytn. there seems to be fewer lock ups if installed on the machine. I agree witht he today plugins comment but I think it simply depends on the software. some of the older stuff only works without freezing if directly installed on the machine. if you remove the card or hot swap with another then you get even more problems

Definitely agree on that. Any fixes for your OS should go to main memory as well.

10x man .... god update ... an it`s work great form SD
Thanks for sharing this, exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks for sharing!
Is this the only link to this cab file?
I have been looking for hours for this file.
Thank you
Great!!! finally something that works from a sd card without tinkering with. By the way - it works to some degree on qtek 8500 with wm6 as well. I tried it with opera - no problem at all and great.
Bombus - the jabber client - problem!!! doesn't use all keys - direction and input. Other miscallenneous programs - input problem. To be expected though, it was made for different software.
Not a major problem though. The JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed3d works from sd card as well - install and just move the big exe somewhere and it will run ok. The files will be stored in the main memory though. To be exact in the appdb dir in windows folder.
I decided to keep the new version - for instance in bombus the text is actually written you just can't see it. if you switch the t9 on and carefully write your login, pass and server, you can even use it. However, it is only just usable, I don't really use it often, in favour of Agile, so I can live with it.
Never mind, I don't know what was worse my laziness or the stupidity of my question. Sorry for taking up threadspace
I don't have a SD card, how can I install it into main memory? Thanks.
Edit: found it, \Esmertec Java
Thanks! Great jobs!
also great for smartphone
great! I use it on SP3 (WM6) and O2 XDA Atom (WM6). but when we can have jbed with bluetooth?
problem with Opera 4.1 trusted release and this update
Is anyone having problems with this and Opera 4.1 trusted midlet? I am experiencing the following:
Everytime I try to use autocomplete and type an address, when I press a letter it repeatedly makes the same letter. Also using the fast scrolling feature with numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 does the same thing except for without the letters. It just keeps scrolling by itself! Any one else experiencing this and is there a way to fix this?
thank you!
is there bluetooth support? I mean to use it with bloover et other bluetooth software (like chat2u).
thanks again,
s

It's ok, it could download after first post.
I gave Java build 20080521.4.1 on my new sprint ROM for my Mogul.
Anyone know where I can get this as a .cab so I can install it into customs ROM's that I flash?
Installed this on an Axim X51v - doesn't run at all, from main memory or SD card. It just doesn't open at all. Any ideas?

Co-Pilot Live 7?

Hi I see on the ALK website that the touch is still not compatible - clearly moving to WVGA has not been as simple as first anticipated.
Has anyone heard of a possible date when this will be available?
ALK are always slow at getting things out. I'm still waiting for the desktop software to suppliment the Diamond edition which they confirmed in an email way back in August.....
Send them an email, and update us all
Copilot Live
I have this working on Touch HD-the screen is slightly "streched" but no issues ...works fine....They are working on a update to have this work without the stretched screen. im ok with it as is..

Do you find it's a good solution for navigating (no lag, easy to see/hear) and do you have traffic (is it useful?) - thanks...
I did ask ALK directly about compatibility and also whether the micro SD card supplied was copy protected in some way to stop me copying from the 2G card to my current 16G card.
Their answers were:
1. Not compatible yet, monitor for updates this link: http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/compatibility.asp
2. Yes, there is no problem to copy the files to another micro SD card

Problem with pocket excel on my HD2

Hi,
all of a sudden my HD2 has a severe problem with pocket Excel (V6.1). If I click on a xls file it takes 1,5 minutes to open the file list of all xls files and another 1.5 minutes to open the file. All the time the wheel is spinning. And closing is showing the same issue. I haven't done any installations the last days... Has anybody any idea? Word and powerpoint seem fine, also every other application I have used the last days.
I use the standard t-mobile ROM, no cooked ROM so far.
Help is appreciated, I need xls pretty often. Has anybody other applications in use to work with xls files, the app is not the best for HD2 anyway.
Regards Hase
I use PlanMaker, part of SoftMaker Office. The current version isn't very finger-friendly and will not open .xlsx files, but a new version should arrive soon. There's a trial version.
I think your problem is because Pocket Excel is having to scan a lot of files into it's open file dialogue. It can happen with large storage cards packed with data. There were alternative file 'explorers' for earlier decided, such as the one in SPB Pocket Plus but I can't say whether it works with WM6.5. Low memory can slow matters too.
I used to had this problem too. Don't know from were or what i came...
I couldn't solve it until hard reset.
My files are stored in main memory not on SD card.
Because I need excel really often I can tell you how scary I always get when I install any new software...
on the note of excell, does anyone know how to see images on excell?

Caution when trying something new is sensible. It's best to make a backup before you install anything new. I use Sprite and SPB Backup is popular in these forums.
I've used SoftMaker Office for years and haven't had any major problems with it, and I've tested some of the Betas. I'd install it to a Storage Card as it's quite a size. Installing is slightly odd. You need to connect via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Centre and then run the installer.

Thanks for replying!
I think I will change either to SoftMaker rsp. PlanMaker (much more functionality than excel, could be more finger friendly- mainly for scrolling) or Documents to go (smaler and faster and cheaper, less functions, same finger-friendly issues).
After your hard reset: Did the problem come back? Did you install a backup without recreating the issue? Was this the latest backup or one from "before the issue"
When I have some spare time I will try to reinstall either pxl 2007 oder pxl 2010 (I think there are some Betas around)
...oh sh*t guys...
Now I've spoken about the problem... ...AND? Here it is...
Not always, but sometimes... I'm close to another hard reset...
@hase01
No, after hard reset everything ran fine...
...until someday... don't know when... means after which software installation... I think after Advanced Home Tab installation.. ..'cause this was my last install.
Softmaker? Year, I hardly wait for version 2010 for WM. Hope this will be released. Because Firefox gave up until WinPhone 7 is out. The only aspect for softmaker to release Planmaker anyways could be the fact that WM6 ist wide spreaded in business world. And WinPhone 7 seems to be for fun world...
Now Planmaker is a pain in the a** for quick finger taping. I've tried it out. Yes many good functions be nothing for my fingers on touch screen...
DTGo? I had problems with sync on PC. Lost formats. Not only colors, but column and row heights and widths and so on. And it's also not finger friendly.
Finally MS Office 2010 for WM could be a solution...
Backup?
Now I didn't backed it up. I never use backup to "install" an operating system new. Had too much trouble also on PC. I use Sktools backup. I do back up a good install for cases of memory or sd card crashes.

Any news from your side? Today I upgraded to office for WM 2010. No real change on th pxl issue, it's a bit faster now but still slow. Same for notes application (.pwi files). Word and ppt is fine, also for 2010. Same with OneNotemobile.
