how to play swf file on ppc - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi all, i have adobe flash player installed on my ppc, but apparently the file type association is missing. when I create a .html file like that
Code:
<object width="xxx" height="yyy">
<param name="movie" value="somefilename.swf">
<embed src="somefilename.swf" width="xxx" height="yyy">
</embed>
</object>
everythings fine and the flash file is played (in pocket ie).
Is there an easier way (i.e. a little registry hack) to associate .swf files with the flash player executable and play them directly from e.g. total commander?

Which version of flash are you using? Use Flash Lite 2.1
If you have resco explorer keep the swf file pressed (so the menu comes up) and then click open with and navigate to flash lite 2.1. Make sure the box saying something like "Associate file type with program" is checked.
Hope this helps, Uzzy

thanks for the tip uzzy. ill give resco a try.
about the flash player version: I have "adobe flash player for pocket pc" from the adobe website (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/), shows up as "adobe flash player activex plugin" under installed applications)
whats the difference to flash lite?
is flash lite able to play the same versions of flash as "adobe flash player for pocket pc (the activex plugin)" ?
the adobe website says that "flash player for pocket pc" is only able to play up to flash v7
can "flash lite" play flash v8 and v9? or only special flash lite files that are optimized for ppc?
flash confuses me...

With Flash Lite 2.1 you can play directly SWF files without opening a HTML file with PIE! But if this file works with Flash Lite 2.1, I don't know! You have to try every SWF file separately!

thanks! I just found a page from adobe that compares different versions of flash lite (2.1 and 3.0) and the desktop version of the flash player (v7 sdk)
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashlite/version/
since lite 2.1 also only plays flash v7 or earlier and has browser integration it seems to be similar in features than the flash for pocket pc download.
flash 2.1 seems to be newer than "flash for pocket pc" however...
time to install flash lite 2.1 then
if anyone else has more info on this topic, id be interested to know.
daniel.

I had adobe flash installed and it did not trigger file association but then I've installed smartFlash v1.0 and now I can play the few swf files I've got (little games and cartoons). Don't know up to which flash version it would cope with.

Get Flash Lite 2.1, it will play .swf direct.
Flash Player 7 will not do that.

New Flashplayer for WM2005 by Macromedia

There is an new version for flash by Macromedia.
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
In original Pie flash worked good. But how can we have to work it with opera?[/url]
I downloaded and installed this version of the Macromedia Flash Player yesterday. Before this I had the previous version (flash player 6) installed on my Jasjar.
I was surprised to notice that some of the sites which worked with the previous version do not work with the new version anymore. (examples: www.mikimoto.com, www.montblanc.com, www.rolex.com).
Am I doing something wrong. I had believed that with the new version more sites would work than with the previous but unfortunately this is not true for me.
Does anybody still have a copy of the old flashplayer 6 as I had removed it from my PC and now the download sites at macromedia does not have the old version anymore.
Regards
You can find it in this thread. It's the flash 6.0 dll mod'd to allow fullscreen .swf in PIE, but it'll work the same as the old version.

Anyone? :roll: I'm travelling this weekend and I would really like to carry my collection of addictive flash games with me
bump?
An I right that for Opera theres no possibility to install that Plugin?
As for the flashgames: You could just make an html file that embeds the swf
I attached one as an example, you have to change the values for the *.swf and the size of it (currently 550 * 400)
O.K being a bit thick, have downloaded the Macromedia Flash Player 7 to my PC but don't have the faintest idea how to install it. I have the following files:
000flash.001
000setup.999
ACTIVE~1.000
What next?

Download this CAB, that should be easy to install.

Beachmeat, my main PC identified the file as a WinRaR archive which I duly extracted, realise now that just need to drag and drop the whole file into the Universal and click on it from File Explorer - another learning moment!
Thanks :lol:
No I'll see what it can do

youtube videos

how can ı open youtube video with herald...ı download flash but ı can't open videos
USE OPERA 8.65 AND Flashplayer7
FIRST INSTAL OPERA AND Flashplayer7 AFTER THIS U CAN VIEW YOUTUBE VIDEO
ı install opera and flash long time ago...but ı cant open...when ı click the video it says "you either have javascript turned off or an old version of macromadia flash player" but ı have last version of flash and opera...and ı also have java..
You can't because youtube uses a newer flash player than flash 7.
You can search by google on something called Tinytube, That's a website that you can open with your mobile. This website converts youtube video's to .3gp online.
opera and flash 7 does work. problem is the wing comes to a crawl when trying to play videos. but yea, you can actually see the flash player videos working in the browser.
use TCPMP
another option is it use TCPMP with this program/plugin called tcpmp FLV plugin I have been using this for a while and it works rather nicely. Just download whatever youtube video u wanna watch directly to your device and then view via tcpmp.
i downloaded the plugin you posted, but how do you install it?
the read me says:
How to use the source code!!
1. download the TCPMP full source code "tcpmp.src.0.72RC1.tar" from its official site.
2. Extract the tcpmp.src.0.72RC1.tar file to a folder
3. Delete the ffmpeg folder from the TCPMP source code folder
4. Extract the two folders in tcpmpflvplugin-v0.3-src.zip to the TCPMP source code folder
For Visual Studio 6.0 users:
5. Just open the tcpmp.dsw in the source folder and add the flvsplitter project to the workspace.
6. Compile the flvsplitter project and ffmpeg project.
7. Rename the ffmpeg.plg to flvffmpeg.plg in the output folder.
8. Done. You have got the plugin files, flvsplitter.plg and flvffmpeg.plg.
For PalmOS SDK developers:
Please help me to compile it and send the PalmOS version of this plugin to me. Thanks.
are there more files that need to be downloaded from the main site?
i didn't have the ffmpeg folder... but it has trouble unzipping the 2 folders....
how do you compile projects? i'm confused... any help would be appreciated. thanks!

when you go this website http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/ you download either one of the exe files under the titile windows mobile activesync depending if you are installing this on a windows mobile phone or a windows smartphone. the exe files are used to install via active sync. if you want to install directly from your phone then you can download one of the cab files depending on what kind of phone you have. and run cab file directly from the phone itself.
after you install that download all the additional plugins for all platform and install them. then go to the link for flv and download those files. then copy paste the .flv files in folder you installed tcpmp which you will find in program files on your device. if you installed in the storage card then go to the storage card and then program files.
flv plugin has a youtube downloader app. launch the app and open internet explorer and go to the youtube video you wanna watch copy paste the url in the youtube downloader app and download it. then turn on tcpmp and play it.

Flash6 .swf player

This Macromedia player for Pocket PC has been around for a while but I don't think a lot of people utilized it. Basically it's the official "Flash Player" from Macromedia(before they got bought(and tainted) by Adobe) that will play .swf files. It needed to be associated with .swf files before it would open them but I buttoned it up in a convenient .cab file that does that. I think it will only play .swf files made in Flash 6 or older. But if you know Flash you know that you can still kick out some pretty cool/powerful stuff in Flash MX or even 5 for that matter. Not sure if the .cab will work on Smartphone but it should.

Playing Flash Files

I have some tutorial files in Macromedia Flash format into my PC.I copied them into my wizard and tried to run them with flash player but unable to do it.Is there any way how to play those files with my WIzard....
Install Flashlite on your pocket pc. You will be able to view any flash content in it. If that doesn't work, its probably because the tutorials were created in a newer version than Flash Player 7 as Flashlite supports up to flash player 7.
