Heating problem - please help - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

i have a HERM200 and ever since i bought it it had a heating problem. i've noticed that the only thing that causes the phone to get hot is the gsm antenna(calls,edge,3g, anything using the gsm band). i'm using the battery status plugin and it shows that the wi-fi , bluetooth and camera functions don't use more battery power than they're normally supposed to. i've tried this on both a new non-htc battery and the batt that came with the phone, and they act the same. the phone is not new and i don't have a warranty. i run Schap's 4.30 ROM and 1.54.30.10 radio. i tried several other rom/radio combos, but the problem didn't go away. Please Help

some people neglect to understand the fact that these things can bang out 5-20 watts of transmission power, most of which is deflected away from your head via antenna design, and yeh when things run like that they will get hot! quite litterly, as i have noticed that several wireless 802.11 devices (psp's etc) will get warm to hot near an antenna!
this will mostly happen when the transmitter is at maximum output and most 802.11 devices run at around 2.3 to 2.5Ghz which dosent help being near the microwave 5Gig band!
if it makes you feel any better mine runs hot as well during calls and using the wireless networking, its normal

read more carefully. i said that the only thing giving me this problem is the radio antenna. when i'm using the wi-fi antenna or anything else, it doesn't even get warm. but using the radio antenna makes it hot really quick, and makes it start eating a lot of battery power, from 300 mA up. when i end the call the phone remains hot, and my battery goes from 100% to 0% in about 2 hours. so it's clearly not normal

have you tryed to reset the phone after making a call? (just as a test) mainly to see if that forces the GSM transmitter off, it sounds like its still transmitting at full power after you make a call.
this could be caused by a hardware failure or a shorted link either on the board or under a SMD chip, could even be a dirty connection to the antenna.
i have seen the primary cause of death in most electronic equipment is a build up of dust and moisture, it might just be an idea to look up the instructions to dismantle the areas affected and clean them with isopropyl alcohol, and for the love of pete dont use metho, they put impurities in it to make it taste bad for certian reasions, which will leave a bad residue on the boards.
if you do try that, remember to leave it sit for half an hour to let it fully vaporise, the last thing i am sure you want is a explosive Hermies.
hope that heads you in the right direction for repairs, other than that i cant see any thing else short of replacing the transmitter board
btw: i was just using the wi-fi transmitter as an example, but staying hot after making a call is not a good sign, it should cool down

thanks. i will give that a try. hope it sorts things out.

its not hard to understand that if your phone is not stopping to give full power after a call. You know the classic thing, when you are near a TV or a radio, phone causes strange sound when its near. Just go near and see if your phone causes this strange sound after a call (when you made a call but hanged it up).

also open and clean your hardware with very soft tiny brush for dust and chech your antenna connection. My hermes doesnt get hot anytime, even at charging it doesnt get hot, only very very little warm on battery side.

i've charged it completely, it obviously got really hot. usually at this point, i would take out the battery and let it cool off before turning the phone on, otherwise it would get even hotter and eat 300+ mA and drain the battery fast. this time i opened the wi-fi connection and immediately the battery status dropped from 332 mA to 130, and stayed down there. the phone even cooled down a bit. after i've turned off the wi-fi, it started draining and heating again. what can i do? is it a software or hardware problem? i'm using schaps 4.31, 1.47.30.10, have google maps, palringo, opera, tcpmp installed

it seems like a similar problem i had where a shorted capacitor on my FCB, when it switches on and off different circuits its bypassing the faulty component,
not much could be done without a circuit diagram, but certainly the heated component would have stress marks around it related to the heat, look at most of the solder joints through a powerful magnifier glass, or microscope, even if the phone is apart try to touch locate the hot component, thats a dead giveaway but is the most dangerous way to also do it cause you can short out components. yeh you have to try to power it while its in bits!
for me when i found the shorted capacitor i simply removed it, it had got so hot it practically de-solderd it self and i never botherd to replace it since it was only to provide filtering to the FCB leds,
if your unable to locate the faulty component it may be time to source parts from someone who has bricked one or is updating.
i know its a big ask for a microscope, but just about any will do, mine is made from an old slit lamp (eye examination tool) that was being tossed out.

self energising vibrator and flat batteries

hi, Just have to tell you about a weird fault with my XDA2. Last november I dropped my XDA2, and it was replaced under the Silver insurance that O2 offer. Since receiving the new unit, I have had random Hard Resets due to a totally discharged battery. I changed the battery but still the same problems. I had to check my charge level very frequently and put on-charge to prevent wipe-outs. This morning I noticed that as I put my phone in my pocket it was vibrating very weakly. It would stop if the phone was turned upright, or laid flat on its back. If the phone is placed on its left edge and given a slight tap on the connector end it will start to vibrate, whether the unit is off, on. Ah-Ha, this must be the culprit. The vibrator is very battery hungry even though the vibration is weak. I have sent it back for repair. Really pissed as I have to use my old nokia 3650 till it comes back!
Anyone else had this problem. Clearly a short of some kind....
Jerry,
I have had this problem recently. MyXDA2 is secondhand so not sure of its history. The bottom of my unit kept getting very hot, very worrying. I narrowed it down to the vibtator, which is now electrically disconnected. Watch this spot to see if it is curred.
Fred
Hi Derf. My XDA2 didn't get hot, but I reckon there is a weak spot regarding the wiring of the vibrator. In my case it may be shorting through to a low current track causing the motor to run, in your case it may plain shorting out. Not nice at all. I would have tried to attempt a repair on mine, but it is insured and I didn't want to invalidate the guarantee. Good luck with sorting yours.
Jerry,
Just an update on the vibrator problem. It has been about 4 weeks now and I've had no probs at all. I will investigate if it is a PCB problem or vibrator fault. I suspect PCB as I have never turned the vibrate function on on purpose.

G1 just not turning on...

Hi to all, my g1 does not turn on by any means..I have done everything from CPR to dressing in aluminium under a thunderstorm today in NY. if there is any way I could resuscitate this device, I will be very thankful.
does anything happen while the charger is in?
nothing at all. not even the led turns on when I connect it
the battery is probably dead
tested the battery on my other g1, perfect. the other battery on the damaged phone, Nothing.....
Sounds like you may have experienced a hardware failure of some sort then. I would suggest contacting HTC about doing a warranty RMA.
I had the same issue with a G1.
Pull the battery and look at the pins. Use a device to straighten and even out all the pins. While doing so, make sure to short all pins together. This should clear out any remaining stored power in the device.
The pins in my device were only slightly uneven and this brought the unit back from death. I'm not sure if the connections to the battery are fragile or if the connectors to the pins are what went bad. However, give it a try.
Jon
My guess is
The motherboard short circuited. I fix G1's as a side job/hobby and I have come across a couple G1's where it wouldn't turn on what so ever or give any sign that the G1 still had a soul. The reason this happens is either that the g1 was dropped, causing the motherboard to short circuit or the g1 got partially wet inside/humidity and when you connected it, the electricity started killing your phone little by little until it was completely dead. But either way my guess is that your motherboard short circuited out. HTC will repair it but for about $160 I believe
I am having a similar problem. Mine turns on, but shortly after will black out. Seems to mostly stem from pressure or contact with the lower portion of the phone where the buttons are located.
I had a problem like that. I just called T-mobile, and they were VERY cool about it and fast. I think I was on the phone with them 10 minutes. They sent me a new G1 for free, they even paid the postage to send it to me, and for me to send it back to them. Just make sure on those 2 with dots under your battery none of it turned red. I did the same thing with my daughter's sidekick and there was a small bit of red on the white dot and they charged me 100 bucks. They said it would take 7 to 10 business days to come and it was at my house in 3 days.. not bad eh?

Phone Overheat - Locking up

Hey guys,
I've been reading threw some posts about some HD2's locking up when they get to hot. I generally stream audio to my phone while I'm driving home and have the phone plugged in charging. I have been having alot of lockups generally 1 a day now since summer started. I installed Battery Booster and generally when the phone gets to 106-108 degrees F it will lock up. Only way to restart it is to pull the battery and restart it. On one occasion it would not reboot till I held the phone in front of the A/C vent and cooled it off.
I seen the post about the solder problem on the cpu and wondering if anybody else had problems at 108 degrees with locking up. I used to use a Otterbox Defender case but recently I have it out to try to keep it as cool as possible. Anybody else with this problem? Phone at idle shows 90 degrees F.

The 108 degrees is a little concerning. My phone doesn't go above 99 and I live in some hot ass weather. It usually sits at 93-95 degrees even when I'm streaming audio/charging etc...Is your phone still under warranty by any chance?

from my experience phone temps seem normal, I'd even seen post from some guy in tropics reaching up to 122,
however resets at 106-108 suggest faulty mainboard, is you device still under warranty? if so have it repaired (mainboard replacement in my case), if not I'd rather discourage at home soldering - tried very similar thing with my laptop, which helped but only for two weeks, specialsed equipment keeping precise temperatures is necessary to make it work
I have had the same symptoms with my old car-charger. The HD2 was overheating and resets. It was because of a faulty charger. After replacing the charger, the HD2 never went too hot again.

I am still very cautious about connecting my HD2 to a car charger, as an electrical spike from the car going through the charger damaged the USB port of my HTC Diamond.
So I only plug in the charger after I have started the car's engine. I bought a Belkin USB Car Charger, as I trust Belkin with power control and that it has a very low profile when plugged in.

I'm not familiar with us warranty regulations, where judging from your sig you are.
Try contacting HTC customer support for info, contrary to popular belief, they were quite helpful when my device started to malfunction.
I have had this problem.
When viewing youtube videos for more than 5 minutes my HTC HD2 becomes very hot and reboot. I sent mine to HTC repair center in Singapore and they replaced the main board and now everything is ok. I have to send it twice because the first time the phone isn't starting...

Battery percentage doesnt increase

My Micromax phone(Yureka Plus) has been having a few charging problems lately. First let me list the problems that i have seen, and diagnose it as much as i can on my end.
The battery shows the charging indicator but the percentage doesn't always increase.
When I pull the battery the percentage changes at times-increases or decreases, but this doesn't always happen.
The phone sometimes refuses to charge entirely, and it takes multiple tries to get it to do so.
Also very rarely the after switching off the phone and charging it, the screen suddenly starts flickering blue-and only can be fixed by pulling the battery(Happened twice so far)
It shows particular resistance to increase in charge, especially beyond the 70% range-its practically impossible to get it to 100%
When I connect it to a laptop,it does get recognized and i am able to access the files on it(However there seemed to be problems when using an OTG, cant confirm ATM)
When using the phone while charging it either discharges or remains at the same percentage, usually the former.
Its not a software issue as i havent updated the phone in the past month, and the problems began about 2 weeks ago
I have changed cables, power sources and tried to recalibrate the battery-none of them worked.
The problem may or may not be connected with the following-The day before the issue started i was cleaning the phone using water.
I did find some amount of water in the case, but it hardly was enough and none of it seemed to be there near any electrical components
I cleaned the usb port, battery connectors, pins, and did a visual inspection, nothing seemed out of place.
The water damage indicator of the phone seems to be normal.
However the battery does spin-only on one end though...it doesn't spin on the other end.
Thus i am not sure if its a sign of battery damage or just how its manufactured...I think that swelling should be universal and not discriminate between sides.
Unfortunately i will not be able to give the phone for repair/buy stuff as i am out of town for about a week
Is it just a bad battery or something more serious? Like a problem in the logic board or something?

Signal drops after battery change.

I have a problem with my Axon 7 (global). Ive decided to change battery on my own one week ago. I was super carefoul with every step i did, no cracks, no damage. I assembled everything togeather and suddenly no signal. Wifi worked perfectly. Now i have this often signal looses which persists even after reboot. Sometimes when I finally catch signal it shows me almost full 4g+, but on the other hand everythig works very sluggish. Super slow internet speeds, even for messeging via whats app for example. I tried to check if this is maybe some software issue. I was on global B03. I could not update to B04 via ota so i decided to downgrade, then install b04. I did, and this solved nothing. Problem persists and phone without wifi is unusable :/ Any ideas how to solve this?:crying:
Connector not seated properly inside it?
I also replaced my battery. The battery behaviour is now normal again but seen no differences in how it runs.
I think that it's not that, I've payed extra attention to this second time that I opened phone. All the connectors I've unplugged, then plugged it again, checked antenna as well. No visable damage to the cable or the connectors.
Thinking about my experience doing the battery, the two most difficult or potentially damaging things were separating the rear cover from it and getting the battery out. Once the cover separated it came off well. It was a hard job getting down under it. The battery was hard to start lifting but with isopropyl alcohol under it, It came up easier the more it was lifted. Maybe something around the battery has been compromised.
Thank you for your response. I did not use alcohol to remove battery, i used hairdryer, and i began to remove battery from other side (the one with antenna). Maybe i burned antenna? Is it possible? Sryly no visible damage, nothing! Everything else works. BT, Wifi, all functions - only signal problem. Any idea what part should i change? I also founded some info in iOS forum somewhere, supposedly iPhone 6 or 7 had similar issue when someone changed battery. They suggested to unplug battery and hold every button for 30-60 seconds, one after another, to "discharge components" or something. I dunno :/
You change the charger board too?
I ordered from Ali only antenna, should i order charging board as well? Anyway, why charging board? Is there some important components that i could have damage? Why not motherboard as well? Antenna is connecting charging and motherboard together. Just wanna know why do you think that i should change charging board as well, maybe Ill learn something new
