update from wm6.0 to wm6.1 - easy - Touch Cruise ROM Development

hi,
today i test the bepe 0.66 german wm 6.1
1.) before i made a backup of my full system.
2.) dump my old german rom for reverse chance
3.) then i upgrade the rom from bepe 0.66 german wm6.1
4.) (and now the funny part ...) i restored my system from the old wm6.0 so that i waste a lot of time to install ~100 programms and a lot of reg hacks
-> and its working almost perfect.
but it was not really good, i think, and so it is better to install it brand new all apps.

For those who dont know, PDAViet has just released a new BA rom with thse spec : WM6 5.2.1938 (Build 18538.0.7.0.PV.HAT)Touch & Office 6.1 NetCF 3.5.
it has built in TouchFlo, and als the latest .NetCF 3.5 as Extrom...
I also have tried all the WM6 version since Helmi R0 release, Xplode's latest rom and PdaViet's WM6 OS 5.2.2000 (Build 20000.1.0.0.PV.HAT).
All are good, stable and fast.
I tried Xplode's latest rom for only 1 day and switched back toPdaViet's cause I had problems:
1. Somehow, the OK button (on top right hand corner) close apps without saving it (I had this problem when using PocketInformant and PocketBreeze - weird. I put it on forum, but no one else seem to have this issue)
2. I feel that the touch screen is not as responsive as other roms -I dont know, maybe I was wrong...but this is what i feel anyway
For now, I am using PdaViet's latest rom WM6 5.2.1938 (Build 18538.0.7.0.PV.HAT)Touch & Office 6.1 NetCF 3.5.
, and its very good...
hey i hv tested all the three but i hv not found big changes in them and switch back to helmi as i hv the backup of it. all three r same as they r helmi based. so i advised to go for helmi it also has gsfinder as file explorer.
which is the best
I have tried have all three of the latest roms but the ones that are the newest is pdaviets rom with office 6.1 and xplodes. Hemlis wm6 is older than the others so any of the other 2 are better.
It seems that the speed of xplodes and pdaviets are ABOUT the same but i find that pdaviets rom is slightly faster- programs open faster, and there is no stalling. Pdaviets is more stable- when i installed pdaviets 5.2.000 i only soft reset it about once- it works flawlessly. I can open more programs at the same time without stalling and freezing with pdaviets than with xplodes. With a great combination of stability and speed pdaviets takes the cake.
Although i can not use the touch flo cube that comes with pdaviets because of i can not get rid of my older version of touchflo i installed in my BA- for some reason i can not uninstall it or remove it but i hear it works like a charm.

What do you mean you cannot get rid of the older version of touchflo? After reflashing the new rom, whatever you have before will be gone..... just make sure you do the no yes yes option...
And you are rite, touchflo on Pdaviets latest rom works very well...
Just want to say yes, I am using latest rom of PDAViet too, and I love it. All bugs seems fixed. I just don't like the touchflo as I was using HTouch before and it works better (quicker, smoother, no flare, more open to add links...)

I installed a previous version of ftouch before the one in pdaviets came out and i installed it on my hemli wm6 rom when it first came out. I did uninstall the program but although the file was removed touch flo was still active on my BA. No matter how many times i have flashed my BA to another rom ftouch is installed on my BA. It is very weird.
I did however find the ftouch program and it is located in my BA "windows" folder under "startup". When i try to delete that it says thats the file can not be deleted. I am not sure what you are talking about when you say " no yes yes" option because everytime i flash a rom it goes to the align screen option. Any help would be appreciated.

the no yes yes option refers to cleaning up the rom i.e. similar to the concept of formating the whole rom data.... you should do this after reflashing a new rom build.
when you reset and you get to the 3 colored screen, press and hold camera + record button for about 2 sec... use record button to choose, camera button to change no/yes... and then press mail button to confirm...
its all in wiki, under the instruction on how to update rom...
I prefer Xplode's latest release...its the fastest one by far, in my experience...can't really fault it at all....I dont like the Touch Flo...it's too slow on the BA...and I don't find it beneficial at all...just a waste of resources.

no probs. I was in your position before.. . This is what this forum is for...
i see by far more people like PDAViet release
could any one provide download link and is there any thing special we have to do to upgrade from helmi WM6 ?
Thanks
Download links are in corresponding threads - THE FIRST POST usually
You should backup your data before flashing, upgrade procedure is the same as for any WM6.
Here is the link to the rom, as posted by Iced Coffee...

I just upgraded using this rom, but the sim card cannot be recognized. Any suggestions?

What version is the best?

Hello!
I'm new here. I'll upgrade my BA soon, so I need to know: What version of WM6 is the best?
Helmi Windows Mobile 6 Profesional R0 or
WM6 Pro CE OS 5.2.1933 (Build 18533.0.7.0) or
WM6 OS 5.2.2000 (Build 20000.1.0.0.PV.HAT)
Best WM6 ROM (as at Jan 2008)
Hi there, I have used both of the Roms at the top of your list and I find Xplodes to be faster and less buggy and I am sure it uses less power but can't prove it. I think I liked the fonts better in Helmi's Rom but it is amasing how quickly you get used to a new ROM.
One thing is for sure WM6 on the BA Rocks!
My personal pick as at today 14-Jan-2008 is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342142
Enjoy.
Another vote for xplode's ROM. It's fast and very stable.

how different
what are the main differences between helmi's and explods? i am using helmi's and am pretty happy. i would like to try explods but can't figure out how to get it to take. i can't remember if i have to manually put into bootloader or not. one thing i can say is that i don't find anymore bugs in helmi's rom than i did with some stock roms provided by phone manufactures.

You make a great point, we often refer to these bugs as if Helmi or Xplode put them there, when really they were issues that existed in the software these guys ported to the BA.
Having recently upgraded from Helmi's to Xplodes I can say that an issue I had with fonts in Co-pilot is still there, which probably means it is with Co-pilot's WM5 version running on WM6. The ROM was definitely faster when I first installed it but now I think I have installed too many apps and it is slowing down for me.
I had an issue with my marsware weather panel causing failed boots (needed to go to safe mode, then reset) after a backup with Helmi's version, this issue is gone with Xplodes.
Both versions have inherited the 'issue' with having to turn on wifi twice.
I personally love the task/memory manager in Xplodes version, and the wireless today screen display plug in.
Either Way is so great to have WM6 on the BA.
Just updated my signature.

Diamond freezes and does hard-reset

Hi,
since yesterday Pocketwit was nog working for me anymore, with netcf 3.7, so i chose to go back a version with another rom, since then problems started to build op.. The major problem is that the phone freezes with a lot of roms, even after hard reset, and when i turn off the device(on top) or soft reset it (with the stylus) it automatically hard-resets and i have to do the first-time-setup etc.. all over again...
what should i do?
for an answer in advance: what kind of rom are you looking for? i would like to say a fast & stable windows mobile 6.1 rom with tf3d2 ... (wm 6.1 because wm 6.5 isn't fast & stable right?!)

You described a known problem. To prevent an automatic hardreset do the following:
1. Install an original Stock-ROM
2. Hardreset
3. Install you preferred ROM
4. Hardreset
Cheers Lycox, I'd actually been having this too this week. I was just suspecting the ROM of being unstable or my own tweaks.
Any stock ROM? And is Radio a factor?

New Manila 2D for Iolite WM6.1

Can we install (eg. with a .cab file) the new Manila 2D (see attach picture - Weather/Flipclock) on our orginal WM6.1 ROM ?
Hello Treo, try this thread.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541750
It will work. However I would recommend you to install first hard SPL and than a new WM 6.5 rom with this theme.......is much more complete, smoother and functional....
succes.

it doesn't work!

it doesn't work!!!! i try it right now...
i can't change original rom before a year because i could lose italian guarantee...
The thread is verry confusing me and it isn't entirely coordinated on the Iolite.
When I update a non-HTC ROM I will lose the guarantee, So I preffer an installation of Manila with a kind of .cab file.
After you install the HardSPL, you can always restore the original SPL to your device, if you have an issue with it... And then send it back for guarantee...

But how to restore our stock rom ?
You can dump it from your device before you flash a custom rom, and then rebuild a "stock" rom with the dumps with ervius kitchen...
Then if you need to send it back for warranty, you can flash the stock rom, then the stock spl, and you are good to go!
That is IF you can flash back, ie your screen and your usb port are still working...
I have this running and it works fine, the only problem is that the default blue O2 background is still behind the flip clock. Any ideas how this can be fixed???

How and what did you installed ?

Confused Downloaded ROM 1.66, HD2 says 1.48

I´m a little bit confused now: I downloaded ROM-Update Ver. 1.66 from the German HTC-Support-Website and installed it.
Now - when installing all these wonderful tweaks from XDA - I looked up the Page "Software-information" and I read now:
OS: 5.2.21869
Manila: 2.5.1921
ROM-Date: January 11th 2010 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROM-Version: 1.48.407.1. xxxxx GER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rechecked in my files: I updated ROM on Feb. 3rd with HTC-ROM-Update 1.66
Rechecked on HTC-Support-site: still reads ROM-Upgrade 1.66 on Feb. 2nd 2010 (which I installed !)
How the heck does this come ?
(Now I don´t wonder anymore why some tweaks don´t work on mine )
Did you use SPB backup at all?
Yes, Eddy !
I backed up entire ROM/RAM/System State with SPB Backup, did the ROM-Update and saved back with SPB-Backup after successful ROM-Upgrade.
Shouldn´t I have proceeded like this ?
Tx in advance for Your taking care of me
thats probably the issue, you have restored registry/system settings fromthe old rom
ideally you should just back up the contacts, txts etc but not the system files
Wow, Tx ! But that would mean to always reinstall the 40 progs I´m running on my HD2 and the reg hacks, and the themes, and the tweaks ..........
THAT´s hell !!!
Any easier way to do it ?
That's what I had to do....!
GoodLuck!
It's usually a bad idea to do restores from different ROM versions, e.g. 1.48 to 1.66 in your case. Sucks, but the problems you'll avoid are worth it.
Tx ! Next time I will undergo the hassle to reinstall everything manually
BTW: Can anyone give me now the specs for the 1.66 GER stock-ROM esp. which Manila Version it runs ?
