Real VGA @ 128dpi is perfect - Shift General

Hi,
Just wanted to let people now who have followed the excellent instructions to enable full WM and Real VGA on their brand new Shift (thanks Tito!) that there is an alternative resolution pack for Real VGA that works (in my opinion) better than the 192dpi pack. Please find the link to download it below. You can install it in the same way as described in Tito's thread. I did it last night and it looks as good as if it had been designed that way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830
Personally, for me, 96dpi was just too small so that SnapVue doesn't look too good and fonts are starting to look a bit weird. 128dpi looks perfect and still gives you a big improvement in screen real estate
Enjoy...

Furthermore, if you don't delete Real VGA once installed you can switch back and forth whenver you need to

Thanks.
I installed 128dpi, of course it is better than 96dpi. It should be useful to change in Tito´s comment too.
Thx again.

it is a bit better but i have gotten used to 96. 128 is a bit odd but i am talking about a athena here Anyway i hope we will be able to fit realvga into the cooked rom.

OK, I've done a search already and can't see this so please don't bite!
I've libertaed my Shift as per instrauctional video - all working well. Where do I get realVGA - is it a cab? Are there any foolproof instructions for installation?
Thanks for any help.

Ah yes, that might have been easier than the search...maybe you can actually use the search too much!
Thanks for your help, I've got 128dpi working perfectly now. Now I just need to get Opera installed!

But do remember that Full VGA mode is a hack, unsupported. Apps may work, they may not. Most do work fine.

thanks vijay555, but I don't understand what you mean... what do you mean with full vga is a hack... by the way, I have bought it : ) it is a very nice toy with a fantastic display... and it is so quick as my BA....
v is refering (can't spell it - damn dyslexia) to a hack that is avaliable that makes the screen size 4 x bigger, this is quite nice for fitting more information ont he screen but remember everything is 4x smaller and hard to read. also resco explorere doesnt work with the hack (takes up 1/4 of the screen). tomtom has no problem.

Great it works...great monitor indeed...))
*lol*
It´s my best *gg*
I got it running on my projector - 7ft Tomtom is GREAT!
OK, I didnt really use my XDA Exec (universal) in realVGA mode because the today page was just too small...
Now I havent tried it on the Ameo (Athena) yet, but it looks better from those pics.
My question, from the larger screen size, would you say the Athena was usable in daylight with realVGA mode on? Its hard to see the screen in daylight and the last thing you want to have to do is squint at tiny fonts.
hello, very good how do you change the resolution?
thank you
You install MvRTrueVGA.
... and SdkCerts
In other words:
1. Google for "MvRTrueVGA"
2. Follow the instructions...
hum thank you , so it was what i imagined, but they have a lot of bugs , lets see if there is one update soon
I wouldn't count on there being an update soon.
And "a lot of bugs" is matter of definition. Personally, I can't live without TrueVGA at all.

Manila2D on Sony Ericsson X1 (Instructions and file in here!)

Hi, been home from work on a sick leave all day, and being bored to death started looking at the possibilites of perhaps making Manila2D available on the X1 (Portrait-mode only though)!
Instructions goes like this.
1. First, install the latest version of Manila2D. It can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
Follow the instructions found on that page.
2. Next, install the VGA-update made by pijulius, everything explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429224
(the file you're looking for is the last link in the first post).
3. Go to Settings -> Today and uncheck the TouchFlo-plugin.
4. After you have done that, download my file, extract HTCHomeSettings.xml and move it to the Windows-folder of your device.
Go back to the settings for Today and check the box for TouchFlo. Voilá, working.
If your ROM is not WWE, but perhaps Swedish or something, you can follow the instructions in the last answer of this post, this will fix alot of problems you might otherwise encounter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2691419&postcount=2741
Thank's to: Herg62123/others for Manila2D, pijulius for the VGA-version, darth maximus for his QWVGA-version that taught me alot, and ababrekar for the HTCHomeSettings XML-tutorial.
Will continue to work on this to see if I perhaps can improve it somehow
Screenshots:
Oh, the background image is taken from a QVGA-Manila2D-theme and resized to WVGA-size, renamed hh_fw_background.png and put in the windows\manilagfx-folder.
Bet it looks awesome on that screen.
Good job!
Great!
I really want my X1 - NOW!
Oh my!!! That is nice.
Can you make Manila2D work on one of the panels? Or does it remove panels?
I suppose the next step would be to get the new version of Manila from the Touch HD.
Hehe I'm unfortunately not that good This is a today-plugin for the Microsoft Today-screen, which is one of the panels!
Yeah, hopefully we'll get a version that's made for WVGA from the Touch HD when it's released!

I've already got that installed... but unfortunately they only support C++ for Panels at this time... am waiting for 'em to support C# and VB.Net CE.

Which prototype do you have and how well does it perform .. panels and touchflo interface?
Would be good knowing on what the final device will be capable of.
Sorry I havent answered..been too busy trying to figure out this xml-thing! I have a 256 MB RAM-prototype..obviously I love it, wonderful phone! Even better now with the Manila2D up and running!

How's it handling the panels and overall performance with the 256 mb?
Any bugs you've noticed? How's the keyboard?
Did you add this as a new panel along side the other panels or you completely remove xperia panels?
and could you try TFL3D next time wonder how the speed is going to be with the 380mb ram version

Even with 256MB and the latest ROM X1 is fast enough. The keyboard is OK, I can make comparison only with E90 and TyTN, but I think that X1's is better.

This isn´t a new panel or something, its a today-plugin that runs on the "standard" today-screen, which also happens to be one of the panels!
Unfortunately there isn´t any good versions of TouchFlo 3D out yet!
Any idea if it will work on other WVGA devices, especially Toshiba G900? As far as I know G900 has only 128 mb ram so that may be a problem.
Doesn't work on my G900, cycles message "Tap here to launch Touch 2D... Launching Touch 2d... Tap here to launch Touch 2D"

If you just install Manila2d (without the VGA-icons and without my HTCHomeSettings.xml), does it work then?
I installed non-HTC device patch, and now it's working. It's quite fast.

NavNGo iGo 8 for the X1

I'm a long-time fan of NavNGo's iGo navigation solution, and since yesterday also a happy owner of an X1. However, these two are currently not on speaking terms with each other. Installation seems to work fine, but clicking the application icon results in, well, nothing.
Searching the net in general and this forum in particular has shown me that this has been a problem with a number of HTC devices. I have tried a couple of the proposed solutions for some of them, but none have worked so far. Has anyone managed to get iGo 8 (or, for that matter, 2006 - I have both) running on the X1 and, if so, how? Any help would be appreciated.
did you update to the latest version with the contentmanager? also try to disable agps on your x1 and try again, but what also can happen is that it dont likes the WVGA Resolution for that i dont have an solution.
regards charon

Using latest version. I read in other forums about disabling agps, but saw other posts claiming that was not necessary with the latest version. Either way, if I'd want to try it, how do I disable agps?
I think what you have to do is find a skins that is wvga compatible for it. I've been looking all over the net to find one, but I cant. I'm sure this is the problem.

I've seen this site before, but when you look at the included resolutions in the folders they only have 400x240.
Download the skin with 400x240 resolution and modify the sys.txt to include the following lines
[interface]
resolution_dir="400_240"
vga=1

well.. Did it work?
I'm also a fan of iGO8 and I'm getting my X1 tomorrow.
So I really hope it works ok.
one thing you could try is to add the sys.txt lines without using the skin. Does the original skin resize if you do that?

Oh sorry for the mix up, I've basically been preparing all my software that I was using on my omnia to use on my X1 that I will get in a few days, So I won't be able to test this yet, but I believe that the skin was the only think that would've been a problem on the x1, but now it's solved. If it doesn't work even with the skin, I have tomtom7 that I know works on the x1 (according to other owners). But I can't wait to have mine!!!

Swype Keyboard

Chaps,
Have searched in the Hermes forum but no joy. There is a thread in the Leo forums but it doesn't tell me what I am looking for.
Has anyone successfully used this keyboard on a Hermes? If yes how did you get it to work?
I simply get a blank screen when I tap into it.
Your comments appreciated.
Thanks
WB

Is it WM6.5 only?
Mike
Mike,
I don't know is the short answer. I am using WM6.1 and simply assumed that this would work in a 6.xx rom.
I will hop onto their website to see if there is any substance in your theory. Would be surprised if there is as they would be doing themselves out of a significant cut of the market. After all 6.5 only got officially released a few weeks ago!
Thanks for the input though.
Anybody else?
WB
PS: Hmm, you might be right Mike. Their forum seems to suggest that it only works in 6.5. Great keyboard but having to load up 6.5 to run it is not an attractive option.
Pretty loath to destabilise my rock solid stable device. Will have to look for an alternative that is similar in concept.
WB
I've got it working no problems on mine. I'm running CRC's 13.4, which is a WM6.1 rom. I am using the QVGA cab from here.
It seems totally stable, and is by far the best keyboard I have come across.
Jez,
Thanks a bunch. I managed to find that thread about an hour ago but appreciate the input.
The qvga version works like a charm! Can't believe how quick one can be using this.
Word of warning; will only install onto main memory so make sure you have some space to do so.
Cheers
WB
Now you've got that solved, I think I'll try it as well
Mike
Let us know what you think. I love it as you can use it either as a traditional tap keyboard, a slider or both!
Only small issue for me is I make mistakes when I am tired as I can't always remember where the letters are on the querty keyboard as I do the slide (lol).
This, even though I have been using querty for donkey years
Enjoy.
WB
The link for the cab has gone
It does look a very good app and I hope they bring it out soon so I can try it.
