Access SMS's from Hermes on Garmin Nuvi - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have an htc Hermes and a Garmin Nuvi 660, and use the Garmin as a handsfree as well as a GPS unit in the car, as it has Bluetooth.
The Garmin is able to show and readout SMS's with compatable phones. Unfortunately the Hermes does not work, and is listed as not being compatable.
I have a Motorolla RAZR v3 as a backup phone and it works perfectly.
Firstly, I can't understand why some phones can do this and others can't ??
Secondly, is there some super intelligent being out there who can (or has) figure out a way to make this work ??

Garmin GPS problems

I know that Garmin said that there GPS 10 is not compatible with 9100.
But I manage to make some settings so i could pair the units together.
Only one problem.. when I try to install basic map and other maps my computer wont find the device.
It says that the unit is not connected...
My Qtek S100 workes directly.. but I have just upgraded to 9100 and would like to get it to work..
Any suggestions?
Not much for help here with me, buddy.
I found that most of the gps software I had tried would not allow me to use my BT GPS...finally, Pocket Streets allowed me to set the com port to what I was able to set as the outgoing port on the 9100...it works fine....
I have a lot of useless mapping software now, and Pocket Streets isn't all that I would hope, but it will do for now...
I've heard rumors, on here, I think that TomTom will work, but I don't have that kind of money...
If you can get them to pair, that's great, but the software you use will need to be able to see the GPS at the outgoing port that you create on the 9100...
hope this helps a little.

Which Bluetooth GPS receivers work flawlessly with Wizard?

First time buyer of GPS unit and I need help choosing the right one. Thanks.
Btw, has to work in the UK.
I wouldn't dare say flawless , but the last 2 times i went to GB i didnt experience any problems with my current GPS receiver which is the
Rikaline Bluetooth GPS receiver 6033
this model is generally 20-30euros more expensive than the standard ones but it uses an advanced chipset to even get fixes in buildings and tunnels and can maintain more connections at once.
Manufacturers Site
Cheap one from www.mobilefun.co.uk
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8590.htm
£40! and works a treat.
Probably not as good as the Rikaline or the Holux 236 which is by far the best i've tried but for they are nearly double the price
Even uses the same kind of charger as the Wizard so effectively you get a free in-car charger for you PPC thrown in.
I successfully use a generic Nemerix based GPS mouse from adapt. You can find these rather cheap GPS device in many varities (lots of OEM manufacturers) on eBay.
In conjunction with TT5.2 it works like a charm.
Any suggestions for a good light GPS to fasten in the helmet. I have plans to track my routes during mountainbike tours.
GPS...
What a topic...
I have spent some time investigating the options for me...
I am a newbie on the PPC front and I am after my first GPS set up too...
OK everyone points at TomTom as the best option...is this so?
Any feedback will be greatly received and if I do go for it, I will probably go for their bundle...
For those running TTN5 on thier Wizards, please advise the speed and any issues...many thanks...

TomTom is also my #1 for road navigation.
What are the best choices for free-time navigation? Some candidates:
Pathaway, http://www.pathaway.com/pathaway3wm.htm, WM5 compatible?
OziExplorer, http://www.oziexplorer.com/
cant fault the holux 236
Nemerix
Hi,
I am using this GPS mouse (NEMERIX V3.0 Ultra Low Power Chipset). Simple installation, simple use, long battery life, cute size - my favourite!
U can get it e.g. here:

Im using a BT77 Bluetooth GPS. It provides a really great signal even inside, however I have had problems with the wizard, in that I have to drop and then re-partner the device in bluetooth, everytime I want to use it, but Im currently thinking its the MS Bluetooth stack at fault and not the Device, anyone have a similar experience ?
Hi,
I already have the tomtom wired gps receiver which i use with my ipaq 2210. I know the receiver connector wont fit onto my wizard but is there any kind of adapter that will change it from ipaq to wizard (min usb i think).
cheers

Afraid not. Wired receivers will not work on Wizard/K-Jam etc.. full stop. you need to get a BT GPS receiver.
I picked a cheap one up from www.mobilefun.co.uk for £40 and works a treat. 5 fixes even in car glove box
The Tomtom Bt Gps is the easiest one to connect to the wizard, other brands u may need to set comm ports in Tomtom navigator.
So far I tested Holux SIRF3, Tomtom MK2, Leadtek sirf3, all were working fine.
my Tomtom MKIII works perfectly with Wiz.
I'm using a BT880 picked up on ebay (new) for £30.
Works fine with my qtek (imate rom) and tomtom5.

Which GPS software Works Well with USDM MDA and in the USA!

TomTom is the roxs, I know, but hard to find illegit version to test b4 i buy.
I will try Iguidance, but not sure if North America is supported or works on MDA.
Igo, Navigon, Route 66 are all European.
GPS business in the USA looks like TomTom is the only option but again i dont wanna buy it b4 i test it. If anyone can give me opinions to how it well or poorly it works, that would be awesome!!
ALSO i will be using it with a 16channel Bluetooth GPS reciever.
hopefully the above coverd all the q's if you have any for me let me know.. ALSO i did all the searching and finding. Majority of hits were European, that's y i made the post silly!
Brit,
PS, if you have Tomtom 5.00 PLS if you can email me the software, my BF has all the USA maps, but his software is 5.21 and they wont read on 5.00 and his passcode is already used up for 5.21 upgrade
Also the MDA is a PPC or WM5? This GPS thing is getting really confusing for me. Some say PPC is not wm5 and other say ppc is wm5.
Will Iguidance work on my Mda???? it's compatible with ppc's!
Sorry for sounding so dumb but stuff like sthis ticks me off.
I'm using Iguidance 3.0 and bluetooth gps (don't buy expensive gps because it doesn't make much difference, mine is only $59).And setup is very easy with mda. I hope this helps.
I use iGuidance with NA maps on the MDA and it works just fine. I didn't much care for TomTom at all. I understand iGuidance's speech is slow because of some interaction with ActiveSync but I also understand that it's being worked on and it doesn't really take away from the functionality at all. I use it with a Holux GPSlim 236 via bluetooth without any problems.
Sweeet.. I guess ill pull the trigger on Iguidance then.. I bought a cheap bluetooth receiver from fleabay.. it's not brand name or anything, but it was an impulse buy @ any rate.. we'll see how it goes.
Iguidance looks like the Honda/Acura Navigation rite. From the top not Angled like Tomtom?
Alos has Day and Night feature?
Brit
Re: Which GPS software Works Well with USDM MDA and in the U
IMHO, Mapopolis ( http://www.mapopolis.com ) may serve your purpose better. The map is more up-to-date than TomTom's, and you can try it for free for a couple of days. However, Mapopolis does lack some good features of TomTom, like 3-D view.

PPC Is pocket pc wm5 is the operating system
i got tom tom and Iguidance working! both look good!
i just have to wait and test it with the gps reciever that i bought. but I may just go out and purchase tomtom b/c many recommend it..
Im using I-go with the american states maps. I like it alot. You can "find" a "test copy" of it on the web with very little searching along with all the north american maps.
I like that it has overhead view, 3d view, night mode, instant re-routing if you miss a turn, voice commands with different voice packs, a ton of usa points of interest and lots of other features. The maps are more current then tomtom also.
YG-PM!
YG-PM!
Guess what.. I got my gps receiver today. YAY!!!!!!
this is what i did:
1. Turn Bluetooth ON
2. put the gps in pairing mode
3. Click on new partnership
4. It find teh gps and give it "xyz-gps"
5. I give the gps outgiong port "com 6"
@ this point the gps in bt setting has a big yellow circle with a question mark next to it.
so i go to Iguidance and tomtom 5 none of them will detect the gps reciever. SOO frustrated rite now. bout to throw Wizard and gps out the window!!! not really but u can imagine my frustration.
I wil try to use the Search function, but if anyone can help me out that would be AWESOME!!
Let me knwo if im doing something incorrectly... most likely i am!
Brittany S. :?:
NVM, I got Iguidance to work, but tomtom5 is still being a pain

Hermes GPS alternative solution

Hi,
I was wondering what would be the best alternative solution for GPS for Hermes. So far I have heard that the BT-338 bluetooth solution can work nicely.
Anyone else have found a better solution?
Thanks for the suggestions in advanced.
J
I use Holux M-1000, works like charm pretty easy to setup. If you not using planning to use Garmin software of course. If you do, by all mean use Garmin reciever. The proxy software is such a hassle
Thanks for the reply.
Does anyone use any other receivers?
I have used 2 different bluetooth GPS receivers - the Palm from TomTom and the one that comes with MS Streets & Trips (with a bluetooth base in lieu of the USB cable to a laptop). Both worked fine using TomTom Navigator 6. There is a bit of a hassle getting them recognized, but once done, they both function well.
GPS on Hermes
Telenav woks extremely well. The receiver is small, connects very easily to the Hermes (I have the ATT 8525 version) and the cost is reasonable.
Follow this thread post #9 onwards.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348003
Works for all WM devices on any internal or external GPS.
Enjoy.
Are you aking for the best alternative for GPS or the best GPS option?
The only alternative I know of is Google Maps 2.0 w/ cell tower based locator.

SMS to Garmin Nuvi ?

Hi all,
I have a Vogue and a Garmin Nuvi 770 GPS. They pair easily, I can make & receive phone calls. Also, the Nuvi is able to download the Vogue's telephone book. The Nuvi has the ability to detect and READ incomming SMS messages with compatible phones. Unfortunately, Garmin's list of phones is out of date and they don't have the Vogue info at all.
Does anyone have a Vogue and a Garmin Nuvi with SMS showing up on the Nuvi? Does it read it for you? Can you reply directly with the Nuvi screen?
Thanks,
MM
