Universal suddenly shuts down; battery or other problem? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I recently acquired a HTC Universal for dirt cheap, and have found the first problem to explain the low price: Whenever I'm using a "power-hungry" application (TCPMP, Internet via Wi-Fi) it eventually just blacks out. Full shutdown without warning.
When trying to reactivate the unit, it reboots as if after a soft reset.
In fact, if I try to reactivate it too quickly, even the reboot fails.
None of the above happens when on external power.
This leads me to think that it's nothing worse than a battery that's lost its mojo, but since there is no warning about low battery, and when the reboot finishes successfully even SPB says the battery is somewhere around 70%, I want to run this by you guys.
What do you think? Just go get a new battery, or is there something else going on which will make buying a new battery just a waste of money?

I'd say it's the battery, 99% sure.
I'ts gotten old and its voltage breaks down under load. If you have proper equipment and a glimpse of an idea what you're doing you should drain about 300mA from the battery and measure its output voltage.
You'll most likely see it going below 3.0V quickly.

I'm afraid I don't have that equipment, but all I really needed to hear was that it's probably the battery.
Now I can stop thinking about it and just order a new batery.

Unexpected reboot - Apparently bettery issue
Hey Holybear, my device shows exactly same symptom, If possible let us know if bat replacement solved the issue>

I knew I wasn't the only one withthat problem. I think i've prooved it to be a battery faultt. as if you taake te battery out after it gets to that stage where you just can not get it too complete a boot up without it shuttinng down again
take out battery ,place finer oveer all battery trmminals and plug inn your mainss charger it should now boot up and runn fin off the charger unless your finger slips off the battery terminals. thisshsowws it's the temprature sensor in the battery.
I posted a more in depth reply to a guy in the wm6 threads as wifi heeaating up battery wass shutting off his device as well

@ cyberjak
Hmm, the idea that a temperature sensor in the battery causes this problems is interesting. I'd just expect the device not being cappable of rebooting instantly, because there should be a hysteresis implemented in the battery's protection circuit.
I had the exact same problems and described them elsewhere, but in my case it surely wasn't an issue of temperature.
I'd suggest to take out the battery and wait about an hour for the device and the battery to cool off. Most likely the battery will then take a complete boot but shut down soon after that - without having gotten near to "warm" yet.
If this happens you can be sure that the battery itself is dead without needing to measure anything.

Okay, to tell you what I tried:
I ran the Universal until it spontaneously went dead.
Started bootlaoder to see how much longer it would work on that. Was a bit longer, what with low energy consumption, but soon even that wouldn't stay on for long.
Then decided to try the "old wives' tale" (meaning I don't know whether there's any sense behind it or not) of putting the battery in the freezer for a little while.
When I took it out and let it get back to normal temp, I plugged it in and after a while booted the Universal. It showed 40% battery, lower than it had ever gotten lately.
Recharged for a full day.
Tried TCPMP: went dead after three minutes.
So in my experience the above didn't help battery performance.
Am going to get a new battery in a few days; I'll keep you posted on progress as I try with a fresh battery.

I had the same problem, whenever i did something cpu intensive, it would just black out.
I just bought a new 3100mAh battery. Best thing i ever did. It might be thicker now with the new battery, but it actually feels more comfortable as a phone. Plus the new battery only cost 13 odd quid, so definately well worth it. Oh and it doubles the battery life (3100/1500 = ~2... duh)
Hope that helps.

oh you know wat i have the same problem with my Jasjar and the bigest problem that there is no batteries on market for Jasjars in my country....its looks like im living in Jurassic Century!!!

If you want i can send you a battery xplayer, they're quite cheap here.

I ordered a regular battery replacement, but maybe I'll add a 3100mAh as well.
I could use it as a media player during long train trips.

I revived two batteries by intense cycling to work quite well again. They still black out at 20%, but only under extreme load (active gsm connection, active wifi, bluetooth and having to render a webpage).
But you should be able to discharge them below 25% at least. Else they're most certainly "too dead" already. And you should do at least 3-4 cycles.
My guess would be that the freezer finished your battery off. I don't understand how this method should work anyway, as lower temperatures reduce the time affected capacity loss. Actually the best place to store a LiPo or LIo battery is the fridge, charged about half the way.
But I also ordered two 3100mAh batteries. I'm using the Uni as a laptop replacement and the permanent wifi usage together with some cpu load and the backlight kicks the battery's ass quite hard.
In Germany the China 3100mAhs are overpriced and it's hard to get your hands on an external charger, but on Ebay.co.uk there's a seller that offers battery and charger as a bundle for about 15€. This will give me a solid 6000+mAh per day and should be enough to forget about virtually every setting related to power consumption
@ xplayer
If you haven't donw already, take a look at Ebay.com, co.uk etc and look if one of the sellers there will ship to kurdistan. You may be lucky

Thanx for helping the guy,yo folks on xda are the best

Just to give you all the end of the story:
I ordered a regular replacement and a 3200 mAh one, and both have returned my Universal to a well-used life.
Thanks again to everyone helping me out here.

For you guys does the device switch off only when the battery is low, or any time. Cause I have this problem as well, and I was SURE that it wasn't a battery problem until I read this thread. The phone switches off intermittently, sometimes after only 3' talk time right after it had been charging for a full 8 hours! Also, usually if I let it sit there for a few hours I could then turn it back on and it would last a full day, so I knew it wasn't due to low battery.
The overheating theory would explain my problem, as, now that I think about it, all my seemingly-random shutdowns were during radio activity (making or receiving calls, especially when the phone was searching for signal, or wifi, which would almost instantly kill it). Strange that it overheats like this, most phone batteries simply run out of charge faster and faster until they can't hold a charge at all, but mine lasts almost as long as it always lasted even though it's 2 years old - unless I get the shutdown thing of course.

I asked this in another thread, but since this one is full of people who got replacement batteries I'll repeat my question here as well:
How much thicker than the standard battery are the 3100 and the 4200mAh ones?

I also got this problem recently, so I bought a new battery and although it's only a 1600mAh battery it runs great again

hey roodkapje ive got that same problem with my battery for my spv m5000 the bad news is that i cant get that batery in barbados so im all out to see

is it... the battery?!?!

I'm at a loss.
A week ago, phone started random resets and looping resets - usually when using a significant resource (i.e. camera, web).
I removed everything, reflashed rom, reflashed the Cingular rom etc. to no avail - same problem.
Today, I'm running the bare bones cingular rom without add ons. Seems like I'm doing fine - battery down to about 88% at 5pm which seems okay (I push mail from the exchange server). I take a picture with the camera and go to send it via email and the phone starts looping resets. I soft reset and I get a low battery message - 12%. I went from 88% to 12% in about two minutes.
Any expert opinions? Is it just the battery or is my phone turning into a brick?
Thank in advance.
Sincerely,
Jonathan
First off how old is the phone? It could be time to get a NEW battery.. these batteries have shelf lifes.. lol.. there days are numbered.
Phone is about 1.5 years old.
Update:
Interesting update:
Powered the phone off to pull the battery and check it out as I am looking for a new battery on ebay.
When I power the phone up, it now says battery is at 67%
- this makes me concerned that there is a hardware problem with the power management system in the phone...
thoughts?
"bump"
Any help, all. I would really appreciate your insight.
I'd start by buying a new battery. 1.5 years is a long time for a rechargable battery.
I am having the EXACT same problem.
I even bought an OEM Sanyo on eBay. No change. Then, I complained to Cingular and they replaced the phone (it took a LOT of complaining).
I put the new battery in the new phone, totally vanilla install. It worked great for a couple of hours, then the problems started happening again.
WTF? New phone, new battery and it's still happening.
Yeah - probably no way any level of complaining is going to score me a new phone from Cingular because of the age. I have a new battery on the way, but I am worried that it might be something with the charging circuit or something. Wish somebody with some expertise would speak up on this...
If you are lucky: they sell extended batteries on eBay. I bought me one for my TMO USA VARIO. The stand-by times are really amazing!
In case you consider to buy an extended one make sure that it comes with the battery door as pictured at the link below!
In general the prices on eBay are very low, so, if you are planning to keep your phone a bit longer you might want to buy 2 or 3 batteries at once? (Saves shipping and I really expect that the batteries will soon not be available any longer since the WIZ is discontinued.)

I had this problem. Looping reboots, might work for 5 minutes but then a constant cycle of reboots. Mine is a years and 2 months old.
I though it was the phone and was ready to ditch it. The battery showed a good charge.
I bought a OEM battery off of eBay for 10 bucks and the phone has not had one issue since.
No question it was the battery in my case.
Excellent. Thanks for the response. New battery was purchased last week and should be here soon, so I'll let you know how that turns out.
Might also take a look at the extended battery - seems like a neat feature, although it looks like it would keep the phone from fitting in my car stand (I use tomtom with it).
I'll post a reply when I find out if it is indeed the battery.
Thanks again.
Its a battery issue.
I had this problem before.
I would charge my phone using some 3rd party cradle and some how it screws my battery up.
for exmaple. The phone would say the battery is fully charged. but when i use it. the phone only lasts 5 mins.
after awhile. not matter how i charge the battery the battery never went to it's full charge. and like you, it keeps looping.
this was an OEM battery that i had for less then a year.
i got a random cheap battery off ebay to test it. and now it works fine.
i threw out the old battery.
UPSATE
UPDATE: It was..... the battery. Easy OEM replacement off ebay for less than 5 bucks. Running like a champ again. Thanks for the insight. Hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
Cheers!

Solution to Desire HD battery problem

Having tried just about everything to prolong the life of the battery on my Desire HD, I think that I have, at last, found a real solution.
I did not like the idea of buying a spare battery mainly due to the flimsy battery compartment on the phone and the thought of constantly swapping batteries. Swapping batteries would also involve switching off the phone and losing data (for example, if you are using GPS to track your movements).
I have tried lots of software solutions, most of which help to give me an hour or two of extra life. My favourite software solution is Juice Defender, which works well within the limits of HTC's awful battery.
Someone on another thread recommended the TechNet external charger, which packs a 5,000ma charge - enough for four full recharges of the HD phone. It plugs into the micro USB port on the phone and charges the phone as though it is connected to the power supply. It hot-charges, which means you don't need to swap batteries or switch off the phone. The device comes with lots of adaptors to charge lots of different devices. There is also an 11,000ma version... enough for 10 recharges.
Available on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000NDQ92W/ref=oss_product
It also looks good and comes with a travel pouch and is smaller than the HD phone itself so slips into a bag without a problem.
Looks promising. Thanks for the info bobby!
I purchased this before I went back to nz for Xmas. Well worth the purchase, has saved me several times. One thing to be mindful of is that if you accidentally turn it on without realising, the battery will drain, even if its not charging anything.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Is the battery really that awful? I can use the phone for 24hrs (including stand-by time, 14-16hrshrs of usage time) with wifi, 3g constantly on until I need a charge.
Which is really more then enough time for me in between charges, unless you go on trip for days without access to a computer or an wall socket.
Its nice to have a phone which last for days like the old days, but it really has no inconvenience charging it once a day, right?
+1 , left my phone in work the other day after reasonable useage in the time I was in work 0900-2000, came in the following morning , to find 13% charge remaining and that was in-spite of my alarm going off
I find that if you put your phone in power saving mode, even the remaining 10% can last you for almost a day.
Its quite useful if you know you gonna leave ur phone for a period of time.
Actually it would be quite useful to have a toggle widget to do that on ur home screen instead letting it activating itself below a set percentage. Is there any?
Howdy,
I was so frustrated with the battery usage I nearly ditched the phone. I decided to apply a different rom after reading and considering many posted here I went with Coredroid, which I downloaded from this site. (had the original vodafone rom) Great support and documentation and tons of help if it goes south.
I can say as of now my phone is 5 times at least faster and the battery life has extended 300%.
When you check battery usage the I found the number one battery killer is Display. With Coredroid its about the 5th item on the list. Wireless and bluetooth and the biggest now (if you can call them real big) but they are easy to turn on/off.
I was very nervous about a custom rom but I needed something. I can only recommend you look at other roms apart from you stock one -Im assuming. (Im not sure what warranty etc rules are gone, personally I don't care)
Cheers

Yes, that was me, with the external battery pack/charger
Well, it's a heavy phone already, a huge screen to light up and render -it's pretty clear where the power is needed. But would the bulk associated with another 400mah really have tipped the DHD over the edge?
Anyway, it's designed now, and nothing can be done about that. I'm quite happy with it lasting until the night for normal/heavy usage (about 16 hours) - with it's out-of-the-box form factor.
And for those occasions when I'm using GPS tracking apps out in the open for 5-6 hours, broadcasting my location to a website, hooking it up to the external pack (mine is in fact a New Trent one, 5000mah) means it won't drain unexpectedly. That is, with 5000+1260mah combined!
The battery pack provides a "full" charge in about 2 hours, that is just like a mains charger (it is rated up to 1amp output, providing of course whatever amperage the device pulls).
That pack might be a solution for the battery problem, but I still don't think it's enough. I don't think that you should have to buy a portable power pack just for your phone battery to last. The whole point of mobile phones is that you have access to a medium of communication in a remote location. By not making the battery life long on a phone, I reckon HTC are actually limiting its main use. But that's just my 2 cents, and it does depend on how people like to use their phones.
5000 mah is not enough, why not make it larger
Thanks for the info.

You must love the 1240Ma battery that comes with the phone.
You've enabled USB Debugging, yeah? I get 2 days, and I work in the middle of nowhere. The phone polls for a new cell constantly while I'm in my office.
If signal is good in your area, tell the phone to use GSM or WCDMA exclusively. Otherwise it will switch to whichever has the better signal, which can be problematic is you're in an area with good / poor coverage of both technologies.
I think the polling thing might be a big battery killer. I shall try that.
I friend of mine in the office, use to have a Sony smart phone that barely lasted a day and thats on standby. He ditched that for a DHD. His battery now lasts 4 days plus, with minmal use! Mine on ther other hand with minimal use can give 2days at most.
The difference is that he is on ORANGE and I am on T-Mobile. It must be down to signal strength because he use to be on THREE and the signal strength was very poor at his home location.
BTW, I find that Juice Defender does help and switiching off Flash in the browser.
This charger and the USB-Batteries are the best inventions ever
It would be great if this phone got accessory support like the fruit phone does. An extended battery case would be the most optimal solution to this problem but I haven't heard of any out there yet
P.S send me a PM if anyone finds an external battery case
how is it compare to eneloop 5000mah?
Ah! I need that one for when i go camping

[Q] Battery Drain Overnight

It's been happening for almost a week now and it's really frustrating i leave my phone at 100 percent charge and when i wake up it's either 52 or 67 or 71 and battery life seems poor too
I did some tests ı uninstalled google play services used greenify, used rom's wakelock blocker (checked everything there) enabled power saving mode, undervoltaged, gpu idle speed 27mhz i did a lot of things to save battery before going to bed and the battery was 81 and i just woke up and the battery was 49 percent after using it for 2 minutes it dropped to 43 percent, the phone got a little water damaged 2-3 weeks ago i wonder if that did something should i get a new battery?
I'm rooted, boeffla kernel with resurrection remix rom
SM-900FQ
I checked GSAM battery monitor and the only thing that drains my battery was screen (80 percent) it drained more when it is off than on
At the wakelock blocked it says phone deep sleeped for 9 hours 52 minutes and was awake for 5 minutes and 24 seconds

Hey okan, seems like its definitely battery.
Try to not undervolt gpu, it will cause instability and the difference is most likely unable to compare, so dont tweak it, indtall google service back.
So, i had bought a china crap that is 7800mAh (it was just double size) and after 2 charge, it died. However, it was like u mentioned, every minute it drained 5%, now it doesnt charge. During charge it says 100% when i unplug it, it dies (it needs secondary power start-up to start batt, else it cant start itself) however i knew it died. Seller ignores me now for refund, now i bought real 7500mAh Anker battery, and right after i plugged it, i NEVER encoured any kind of similar problem, so most likely it is battery issue. Ur battery is dead! Simple.
Also, take out batt, put on a flat desk and see if it looks abit like its round on middle of the battery. If it is, then get a replacement asap.
Try out Anker 7500mAh battery, cost 30€, almost same as stock batt, but is 2.5x longer batt + its (sadly) heavier. But got amazing protection, sadly its not anymore water resistant
Choice is urs, and never buy cheap batt, it can damage device or explode, always give 10€ more n forget those things

I'm not undervolting the cpu my kernel does automaticly (stock 1080mv with this kernel it's 1055mv and it's stable don't worry)
for the battery ı did noticed some weird shape on the battery it's not a round shape but a rectangle shape and some part is higher and some part is lower on the battery it's like a bent iphone battery is not flat/straight and do you think water damage caused the issue? i ordered a battery already EB-BG900BBC one, genuine original samsung 2800mah battery will see with that battery life seems OKAY when the screen is one it uses like %1 per 8 minutes (light usage with power saving + no wifi + no location + no data + brightness %40-50 ) but when the screen is off it seems like it uses more battery than on, it drains a lot overnight and i don't really get the logic behind this (there's no wakelock)
Oh the battery is also kinda stupid i charge it to 100 percent use it a while drops to 98 then ı remove the battery and plug it again start the phone boom battery is 100 percent, i already calibrated battery and sometimes it drops 2 percent when i unlock the screen
Sorry for my bad english

Ok, ur battery got wierd shape that is the MAIN key, however it may got something else behind that, but im sure battery is somewhat related with th! Issue as well.
So far all this points to battery.
Another thing is CM12 rom ur using, it is nightly and if u didnt made a proper installation or may it did not itself a proper installation thus causes somewhat mysterious draining.
Is ur phone hot? Can you download CPU temperature app and enable logging, cpu overlay options + see the cpu upsage with all apps closed (dont mind those messengee, viber apps, just close them form multitask panel) tell me what kind of average percentage it gives you.
On me, its between 9 - 14% mostly with lowest clockspeed, so how on urs?
Aand what is ur batt temp? I guesd it will give wrong results still tell me.
Hmm water damage should be considered too, but what, maybe battery got water damage i believe, but u mentioned it lasts better when screen is on than off. Btw, did u knew b4 tht s5 is waterproof? How do u know or knew it got waterdamage?
Where was water drops on cover? Battery? Wet? Where? You should point it out, maybe any other s5 smart xda-user can give you his thoughs of where it may(be) did water damage.
Thats all i can do for you. Hopefully its just batt.
P.S: im using cm12 too, only thing i realized is, cm12 drains more batt on standby than stock s5 5.0 rom (pretty annoying when nothing is found on wakelocks/wake-up analyze/reports.)
Btw, try Amplify app, it is xposed module and root app, if u got xposed, try it and reset timer, turn off synx, wifi, get to arplane mode, in short, EVERYTHING (even apps if possible from its rot, kill it) and run Amplify, reset timer of it, and close that app (swipe from multitask) and turn off phone. After 1 hour, open and straight away go to amplify and see stuffs that mostly causes wakelocks, i believe those non-root apps may cant point out properly wakelocks or i may be wrong, just try it (app got inapp which enables you to stop wakelocks/serviced/alarms, but you can still see on free version the cause of triggering)
Ok, it got vry long im sorry, i used it, and got rarely, RARELY (On wifi) awake thing, however app gave me apps like messenger, other kind of wierd wakelocks thqt got turned on, but did not show up on system batt stat, thts why i suggest you to use this n see it).
Do a nandroid backup first, n post results of everything i mentioned

I tried a lot of roms and stock rom too issue remains
battery temp 28-35c cpu is 38 c idle
when i open the cover the water was under the battery so i removed the battery than see a lot of water, so the sticker also became purple but i removed the battery immediatly and dried the phone with towels and put it on my computer fan for 3-4 hours
ı uninstalled any suspicious apps and facebook/messenger and stuff too still draining, factory reset, still draining
the weird shape i think is normal i did a spin test and there was no bulge that's just my dumbness
ı can't install xposed because it doesn't support this android version
s5 is not waterproof it's water resistant i don't know how the water got inside but it did (all ports and case was closed)

Hey, firstly i agree, it is water resistant, however it got certifies of being waterproof yet not really reliable yet to drop it in water xD who knows, maybe cover & charging flip cover port wears off over time and gets loose xD i never take the bet, not my thing.
So, ur cpu is very nice, batt temp is nice, as of xposed, i dunno but if it is CM12, then it should, if it's another kind of rom, then i dunno.
Another thing is, did your battery spin? how is it's shape? do you mean that your battery looks like this?
The battery's top side looks like it is inside, in a square form, huh?
If that's what you mean, other than battery is round or a bit a ball shape, then it's normal, cuz that is NFC thing applied in battery, which makes it look in wierd shape xD
All i can see is your battery. Ur device is fine, if it had water damage, it should show itself instead of hiding xD probably battery, yay! that's easy-fix (let's hope it is so).
Tell me once battery arrives, and write to us result of the new battery, btw, when you use ur phone, never use device untill battery dies, this affects the battery lifespan dramatically, so always charge it on 15% or 10%, it might not be cause but might help you maximize your new battery's lifespan.

Yes that's what it looks like lol i told you i'm dumb it didn't spin so the shape is OK for now
When the water got first in first 3-4 days the back and recent tabs buttons randomly pressed on it own and their light didn't lit up sometimes so there was definitely some water damage the phone was really stupid but it got fixed and i dried the phone it's not perfectly fine, performance is fine (50k antutu score), screen is brilliant everything works expect for the battery and i remember this issue started somewhere near that time after like 5 days later
well i can't charge it on %10-%15 i just got home from school and battery was already dead at 15:20 p.m (it's now 16:08 and it's charging)
well that really doesn't matter now because my battery already been shipped and probably will come tomorrow but i can't pick it up because i have school i'll get it from the building i will post results with the new battery and also tey said i should first charge it for like 10 hours because the battery is new and something do you know anything about that and they also said the battery performance will increase with more charge cycles over time i don't know if he's bs'ing me with a ****ty battery or is it true?
thanks for your help and for your long messages :fingers-crossed:
It is true that charging new batteries first 3-4 cycle fully for extra hours is good. Many people say there is no need for li-ion batteries, and many people say it is good, i would say, do it!
You dont need 10 hours, 6-7 hours is enough, if u got miniUSB with OEM charger & adapter, 6-7 hours is okay. Use battery to 15% and charge to 100% (then let it charge an extra 2 hours after it's 100%), do this 3-4 charging cycle, then use it normal.
The thing is, S5 uses a more costly battery which is li-ion, it is a bit more expensive, and they hold the battery better, which li-po doesnt like li-ion does, but li-polymer is a battery that is very soft and very much flexible to design it, so, all batteries have advantage and disadvantage.
Look, Li-polymer is batteries like HTC One M8 Does (dunno M9), they got memory-effect, which means, it is recommended to charge it when it arrives on 10-15%, while Li-Ion has no memory effect, which means you can even put on charger in 50% or 70%. The thing is, battery is better if you charge it instead of depleting it. Li-Ion is that kind of battery, both battery has an average charging cycle of 350 - 500, i got extended 7500mAh battery, and i charge it every night. Some days i put charger in 80%, somedays i play long and long and put on charger 30%, but try to avoid overcharge it. When it shows 100%, don't let it stay in charger more then 1 hour (it's not recommended).
However, i heard nowadays chargers got lock, still taking precaution urself is better than relying to technology (duh, technology man, it can be faulty who knows lol) the chargers are no more charging phone once it hits to 100%, the charger stops to charge it, and after a hour or so, it attempts to charge it again, once it see it's full (again) it stops, and so on it continues. Built to maximize lifespan, and another thing is, never let ur phone be always on 100% xD
God damn, those crap batteries, they are like puppets, you gotta take good care of em xDD
Bro, what is the app you use to track ur wakelock? i got issues too with my phone getting triggered by an wakelock app to wake-up my phone on 3G data 40-50% than it deep-sleeps, and dunno rlly what app it is, so i try different apps to find the app to block it trigger phone :/

I bought a battery and it doesn't seem to help the battery drained over %45 at 11 hours and i found the reason for it if i open the back i can see there is a lot of humidity on the phone and speakers don't work while in a call (they work on videos or sound record)
Ok u got ur answer then, ur phone is damaged.
From the looks of the 2nd screenshot, it says the screen was ON the majority of the time the battery was draining

No, i dont think its caused by false or erong bootloader things, i installed so many different stuffs and never encountered with such an issue. All i can say is, you have to take apart your phone. The wierd part is, all water or anything left in it should already have gone, yet it isnt and im being suspicious it might be caused by an damaged part of ur phone.
Does ur phone randomly shut itself off? Like, on 40% batt it shuts off (as if it has no batt left when u actually got batt?)
Easy way is let ur phone rest few days, never touch it, and where u r now, is it humidity alot or? Turkey is warm country with its super much humidity, feels pretty annoying cuz alot humidity. All i would say is do the rest thing, charge ur phone to 100% then take off battery for 3 days, then put back and charge again for 3 hors or so.
Aaaand last option or add this too, take off battery, put r phone to charger, and try to boot it in download mode, then let it be like that for hours. Make sure cover is on, so it doesnt get in it **** ya.
Vry wierd, must say that.

Yes i live next to the sea and i'm in İzmir and it's probably the most humid city in Turkey no my phone works just perfect everything works doesn't shut itself (for any reason), performance is great but i just gave my phone to a technician and he said that this phone is not like old nokias where everywhere is open so that the humid can leave the phone but this phone is closed so the humid can't get out he's gonna open the phone (from the display so he has a risk of cracking the screen ) he said come pick the phone tomorrow water is short circuiting so the battery uses more amper we'll see i'll inform you tomorrow with the results thanks for your help

İ sent the phone to warranty and i paid like 200$ for motherboard + screen replacements

Poor battery no matter which rom

I've been using several different 7.1.2 roms and battery life has been atrocious. I use wingoku 4.1.
I pair my smart watch to it but even when I use wifi (no bt) its bad, draining quickly, last checked about 22% per hr. Even with screen off listening to podcasts it still will drop a lot more than it used to.
I really don't have much in terms of stats. Honestly I don't obsess much about it normally but now its noticable.
Aside from suggesting another rom & kernel, would I benefit from formatting data and starting over?

Install accubattery and run it though a few charge cycles, it will be able to tell you the life left in your battery, it's possible that you have the same issue many of us have had with a degradation of the battery.

Yea. Thats my biggest fear. Ive replaced small parts before but my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be so Im afraid I might mess it up. Plus I'll need to buy a heat gun.
I'll be more than a little pissed if the battery's shot. This phone is barely 14 months old. Either give us a decent battery or make it replaceable.
Thanks for the info btw. I just installed the app.
Update--Im switching things up a bit. Recently I made some changes and this time I flashed a new rom without some of those changes.
1. I had switched from Action 3 to Nova
*HIGHLY doubt nova is eating up my battery so Im still using it BUT I did remove a widget that has weather. Since I keep phone on device only location, I think theres a chance its always trying to find my locale and consuming battery.
2. I didn't add a gov profile yet.
3. This is the first time in about 4 or 5 rom flashes I didnt flash CTT Mod.
* Again I doubt this is causing battery issues but Im gonna hold off flashing it. No throttling thus far.
As suggested Ill be monitoring with accubattery for a few cycles. But been using my phone about 90 mins this morning (at least 90% of that time actively using with screen on) and I've lost 13%--a huge improvement from yesterday.

Accubattery for the proof. New battery for the fix. You could always buy online and have it installed locally. Read up on where to score a good replacement battery, rather than another dud.

Best to let it run below 20% at least and then fully charge until the APP tells you the battery is full- not your phone. Don't unplug until Accubattery says it is full. What you will observe is that the phone will continue to charge for 45 minutes to an hour past when the phone itself is reporting 100%. You will find the estimated capacity under the Health tab. Once or twice below 20% is enough to get a close approximation. After that it will move a couple percent max. You will know soon enough.

Well it turns out my battery is in need of replacing.
I let it run down like you said. I was going to go further down but once it hit 20% my phone turned off. I plugged it in, opened accubattery and it said 46% under health.
But I just checked again after charging to 100% and it now says 63% (2182 mAh total capacity).
I checked my imei on the Huawei site and my phone is 3 days out of warranty. Im hoping to get them to fix it.

Well sorry to hear that. Good luck to you on the RMA route. If not, the Cameron Sino brand replacement is a bit more expensive but includes a working battery temperature sensor. It will make your phone like new. Note in the thread I referenced above, some parts may get scratched/cracked depending on the skill of the repair person. They aren't expensive so it you are intending to keep the 6P for a while longer, it may be worth it to buy those just in case.

Thanks for the support! I checked that thread and didn't see specific parts (inexpensive ones you referenced) If they're listed Ill look again. It doesn't seem too daunting. I was able to replace the screen on my son's WiU controller. Those were very tiny parts and YES--I did snap off a clip, however I was able to fudge it and it's still working about a year later.
Far as RMA, does anyone know if they replace it with the same crappy stock battery? From my perspective this seems like a clear case where a recall is in order.
But if its the same battery, Im just setting myself up for the same problems 8 to 12 months from now. Even if I buy a new phone Id still want to sell this one and thats not as easy with a crap battery. Plus theyd have my phone for x days so Id need to find a temp phone in the meantime.
Don't mean to jabber on...this sucks.
Oh yeah...cuz it was after hours I sent an email to support last night. Do you think Ill get a response? Or should I just call when I have time to be on hold?
Spoke to a clone at Huawei then asked to speak to the clone's supervisor (wasn't sure if clones had supervisors--they do. But the programming is identical.) Long frustrating phone call and they aren't going to replace my battery because its out of warranty...by 4 f#@&ing days!
I told them they lost a customer for life and I was being 100% sincere. How could I ever buy from people who thinks it ok to sell defective crap, know about it, then do nothing to make things right?
I'm gonna replace the battery on my own. Whether things go good or terrible, one thing is certain--itll be the last time I ever replace anything on any product made by Huawei.

battery.

it has been months now having to deal with this issue.
i really love my 6p but I've got tired of having to charge my phone every three hours. it shuts down when recording video when the battery below 50% or giving the CPU a hard task like searching a long excel sheet. i cant open Snapchat when below 50% fearing that it will shutdown and its not may or may not it will shutdown .
i don't think its a hardware failure because when it happens twrp boots up just fine but cant mount data and it shows the real percentage. while ROM shows 1% and shutdown. it happens with all ROMs even the stock ones.
I live in a country where there is no support from google or any hardware store ( they don't even know the name of the phone ).
this issue have put me in many awkward moments I've waited for a long time towards a solution maybe that's it. and it is time to move on ??.
Its a hardware fault, as in as much as your battery needs replacing. Well known issue where the battery degrades causing this issue.
You could install Accubattery and do a health check to conform this.

I just got my new 6p battery. I can confirm that I just get 1hr of screen on time and it will shutdown. I live in asia and There is no stock of the 6p's battery everywhere here even in Huawei stores and service centers. I got mine from an online site and have it shipped to me. It took a while but it was worth it. Its like new again (bought this device 2nd hand and already have the degraded battery).

What batteries did you guys buy? I have battery issues. Phone dies but twrp shows another value. Sometimes drops by 2% instead of 1%

There is no more original battery for our 6p almost everything that is being sold is a chinese knockoffs. But I got a Beltron Battery. I also like the cameron sino (good reviews) but the price is 2x the price of beltron if when i ship it to my country. But, So far no issues. 1hr 45mins SOT and i still have 70% (Fb, YT, Web browsing, instagram and etc). Today is my first day of using this battery. Fingers crossed.

I've never heard that one. But I've heard I've had to be careful with sino as most are fakes now. But I've also heard good ones about Cameron sino x longer? Or something.
Very much would appreciate your advice on this as I don't want to pay for a fake. As I plan to get a new charger, battery, screen protector and case for it. But with the battery as it is now. Wouldn't be worth it

I suggest Beltron like mine, most of the batteries doesnt have any temp sensor. It doesnt bother me that much. I suggest using a 1A charger. Slow charging but it doesnt stress the battery so much like the OEM charger. My wild guess is that the charger is the reason why the battery degrades so fast. Good luck with your 6p!

Agree... but what does Accubattery say your battery capacity is? 1st day feel of the pants is feedback, but having data would be better. Run the app, and after a few full charges let us know how this battery compares to the one it replaced. You *may* have found a great replacement. Thanks.

Ill download the app again. I always forget using that app. Last night i charged it 30%-100% in just more or less 3hrs using 1A charger. i was asleep that time. Today I'm using the phone non stop. Off wifi and off cellular since i have a dedicated daily driver for my social life using this device just for entertainment. Today I've been reading manga using an app non stop @ 50% brightness. Here are the screen shots of my battery in settings. I think its good. Ill return with accubattery data later
Any links for recommended battery instructions?

it has been months now having to deal with this issue.
i really love my 6p but I've got tired of having to charge my phone every three hours. it shuts down when recording video when the battery below 50% or giving the CPU a hard task like searching a long excel sheet. i cant open Snapchat when below 50% fearing that it will shutdown and its not may or may not it will shutdown .
i don't think its a hardware failure because when it happens twrp boots up just fine but cant mount data and it shows the real percentage. while ROM shows 1% and shutdown. it happens with all ROMs even the stock ones.
I live in a country where there is no support from google or any hardware store ( they don't even know the name of the phone ).
this issue have put me in many awkward moments I've waited for a long time towards a solution maybe that's it. and it is time to move on .

My wife had the same problems and got a Pixel.
I ordered a new battery for around $20, put it in and now it's like a new phone. I swapped out the Sim card from my Moto z and now it's my daily driver. By the end of my shift it's still at 80%
I bought a brand new Nexus 6P and have had it for a month now and I must say, coming from the LG G5, its a damn shame the 6P's battery doesn't live up to the potential some phone batteries do. I would recommend doing a health check for your battery once a month at least, it's what I do to keep an eye on things. There are some good apps for monitoring your usage and longevity quite accurately.
Nevertheless I still prefer my 6P to the G5 :silly:
If your want an OEM battery here is one https://goo.gl/jmYfn9 the seller runs out but seems to get more in. I bought this one and had five and a half hours screen on time when I plugged in at 8% battery left. Mine was shutting down as soon as it hit 20%

I have to object to the that factor that the battery on the 6p doesn't live up to its potential, well I'm making a statement out out of that comment, I bought an replaced my own battery, even went as far as adding new thermal paste in the places required, I also have my device rooted an pretty much battery mod central on my device, I have had it for 5 days on deep doze settings an it's at 68%. I had insured my journey with complete overall satisfaction, I have added a 3600 an it came 2 days after I Ordered off Amazon, for 15$ free shipping, can't beat the fact is the way a device should run, no just a nexus 6p, I mean ll devices, if you can oot it when your phone is new, you can max your battery potential to the extreme, if you've had the device like me for 3+ years, every battery saving option I went through trial and error Makin that thing last for 3 hours if it was rooted with doze settings and lasted an hour max if not rooted. So I went the do it youself an learn something an it wasn't hard one bit. Charged It till full an turned it on an let it do its thing, I can't tell you how many of you need to change your battery out an buy a new phone. let's be clear an unrooted phone will never exceed battery life for the reasons of the hogwash they add o it an cause it to drain, if you eliminate the drag you'll get your full potential on battery life and only 15$ than forking out 500$ on a new device, work smarter not harder. Seeder, amplify, greenify, power nap, servicely, naptime, xposed, better battery stats, tasker, appcontext, powersving.apk, magisk doze mods, I recommend them all on magisk even if they are repoed, fix the prop for the present time if you know what your doing, Lspeed Is a great tool to have, I use elementalx an tweaked my settings for battery another great tool for battery conserving is [All+ROMs]+Galacticâ„¢+DeepSleep+MOD+[Super+Battery+Saver], find an flash it in recovery. For all devices.
If there are any questions on those apps or have any fed back let me know. Good luck.
