Ringo Mobile - Use Your MP3/WAV/WMA as ringtones for calls and SMS - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello,
actually is the first time i post on XDA no matter i read many useful and helpful threads on it.
I own an unbranded HTC TYTN II - just meets all my needs for businnes and fun.
Some day ago i decided to personalyze some way the ringtones.
Watching here and there i found a very nice tool - RINGO MOBILE - wich allow to setup ringtones by playing every Mp3/Wma/Wav stored in the phone or Storage Card.
You can personalize call ringtones as well as Sms Notifications, for each group, each contacts...
It works great untill now BUT i found an annoying BUG.
When i receive a call I cant silence anymore the audio notification just by scrolling the jog wheel.
Too bad because that program have great feautures in terms of FULL ringtones groups&contacts personalizations.
If someone got the same issue or have some valid alternative (i tried also Mortring but doesnt work well as Ringo Mobile does) pls feel free to IM me or make this thread do not die at the beginning.
Thx by the way to XDA developers, you Rock!

actually the audio manager does is allow u to make ringtones from mp3....i hve not used this program but if it does what he says(which im sure it does lol) it goes way beyond htc audio manager....

..
I agree with you that HTC Audio Manager sets MP3 as ringtones and trim them up...
But i didnt see any option that allows you to set mp3 as SMS Notification, or set them per groups and contacts. HTC Audio Manager doesnt personalize ringtones.
Whatever, if someone v got the same bug or a better alternative pls post it here.

Assigning Ring Tones for Callers / Groups

I can see an RTFM coming but but does anyone know whether you can assign different ring tones for contacts and / or groups in your contacts list? eg. if work is calling tune to muppet's show rings and if the significant other is calling a different tone.
Oh btw this is for XDA II
Have a happy new year.
[edited typos]
Sadly no you can't. You can only assign different photos for different callers.
There is an app called Caller2Picture that can do photos and ringtones, but I can't remember if it likes WM03. Can't remember where you can get the app either. Probably www.handango.com
its in hacking it or something the link and the poster said it didnt like WM2003 im about to try it on my XDA
here you have a link ...

You can try V2R Call2Picture, new versiom 2.5 works for XDA/MDA II, you may get it at http://www.v2r.ag/. Another option would be Pic&Ring 1.49, get it at http://www.xda.com.cn/E/index.htm.
I will add another one here. To summarize:
1. Caller2Picture (http://www.v2r.ag)
2. Phonext (http://phonext.oabsoftware.nl)
3. MTUX RingToneX 1.31 (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=8675)
4. Pic and ring (http://www.xda.com.cn)
5. Phone Plus 0.99 (http://www.mesoftware.co.nr) - Free but current version does not work with XDAII
And I for one have not manged to get any of these working on my Xda II, they all seem to change the default ring settings but that is about it.
Weird. Then again none of them play any sound when I as then to play a sample I wish to test - very strange my Xda...
Tekguru
Nothing wrong with your XDA II. I have tried only 1, 2 and 5 on the XDA II and have had similar experiences. They did work OK on the XDA.
Glad it's not just me, oh well someone somewhere is bound to write an application which works.
The app that works
I tested the following application for the ringtones and it works
(Mtux RingtoneX)
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=8675
Tried it, no go for me I'm afraid.
hey,
did you download the latest version for mtux already? i previously had the same problem where the assigned ringtones wouldn't come out. whenever someone would call my generic ringtone would sound. apparently the author of the software said that there are bugs; and thus recommended that you download the latest version. once installed it has a musical note icon on the lower task bar (right beside the bluetooth icon for xda2); it's the shortcut to go to the ringtonex program. after installing the latest version; it works great.
cheers mate

Hi,
Do you know if Mtux RingtoneX is compatible with MY|PHONE PROFILES?
Could we use both programs without any interference?
Thanks,

Assigning ringtones to different callers and groups?

Hi all, does anyone know if it is possible to assign a different ringtone for different groups, like "VIP" or "family" is this possible, or is there a third party application that can do this?
Photo contact pro
http://www.pocketx.net/products/photocontactspro_ppc/
i was about to ask a similar question, however mine is that I would like to assign a different tone for some peoples SMS messages. I havent tried it yet but i dont think photo contact pro will do this ?? anyone know of another prog

Thats a feature I am also looking for - but no luck so far. All the different programs that I found can do is:
1. Change ringtone per person/group
2. Full Screen Picture ID of caller
But none allows me to change the SMS tone per person/group. I am going to write to the authors of PhotoContacts PRO if they will add this feature to their program.
i just had a google and it appears 'Ringo mobile' may do it. I'm going to try it now and i'll report back.

Cool! This sounds promising - let us know what you found out.
Couldn't wait - I gave it a try myself 8) So far it seems to work pretty well. At least I could test the ringtone part - all my friends are still sleeping so it'll be a while for my SMS Test
Nice thing is that I switched off the ringtone manager in Photocontacts PRO and Ringo takes that part now and Photocontacts shows the caller full screen picture. But I guess I will be getting rid of Photocontacts once Ringo performs solid and without problems, the tone is more important than a picture to me - or I need a lightweight fullscreen picture id program...
i gave it a shot too, i havent had a sms off anyone yet either but seemed to be able to set the tones per contact ok. My only worry is intergrating it with phonealarm, as that app takes over the tones too. I've set the default sms tone to 'system' in pA, hopefully that will let ringo take over.
So far I am really amazed by this Ringo Mobile. It works ( for ringtones ) like a charm. Hopefully my friends will be up soon so I can test out the SMS Part of it.
Now I really want to get rid of PhotoContacts PRO, since its such a memory monster - do you know of any other fullscreen picture ID caller software? AFAIR there is a freeware but I am not sure of its name
i just got my friend to text me and it works perfectly
Good news!
I got some mini-bad news though - there is a bug in Ringo - when a person calls you are not able to use the volume slider to turn of the ringtone. This bug is already reported in the yahoo group of ringo.
So hopefully this will be fixed soon since I don't want to hit the IGNORE button ( since the person calling then knows I ignored them ).
The official statement regarding this problem:
This is a side effect of Ringo Mobile volume being the system volume
not the ringer volume (although we respect the ringer volume at the
point of the notification). However we do intend to add this ringer
mute facility in a future release.

Just found out about another Ringtone/SMS Tone Tool - its really tiny and FREEWARE!
MortRING
http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/wmpdownloads/singlefile.php?cid=8&lid=66
Haven't tried it yet - but it does sound like it does the same thing as Ringo - but for free.
MortRing works great on my SPV M3000 Wish that I could hide the icon on the traybar though
I also hope that there will be support for sounds on SD-Card instead of on the device. That way I will be able to attach a SMS/ring tone to every contact and not just a few 8)

Unfortunately, MortRING has issues with WM 5.0. On most WM 5.0 devices (including my US T-Mobile MDA), it does not recognize the caller ID and reports all calls as "unknown caller". I spent about 3 weeks researching this, and Ringo is the best that I have found (best = works great, and not overly expensive).
agree with the previous post...when i upgraded my xda2 to wm2005 it had some issues with mortring (i used the .97 version). sometimes the caller id would malfunction...at times the phone would ring but there was no sound...doing a soft reset would solve the problem but eventually the bugs would come back.
now i'm using a mio a701 and still mortring has some issues....

First Official Video Ringtone App for PPC

VRINGO(FULL FEATURED AND STABLE RELEASE)(just 2mb installation)
hello friends, while browsing internet,i came through this software which i suppose is the 1st ever video ringtone application for pocket pc.The most important thing in it is that its totally free.
STEPS TO INSTALL VRINGO
1)JUST REGISTER ON http://www.vringo.com by providing your own mobile number with country code.
2)DOWNLOAD APPLICATION(well the cab is already attached below) from http://mobile.vringo.com.
3)INSTALL it to your desired location, either on storage card or on device memory, but storing on device memory allows faster operation
4)LOGIN once using your account details, then from the third menu(FIND VRINGOS) select any one of the online provided videos to set as your videotone.
5)BUDDIE-LIST-you can also set different video ringtones for different callers by creating a buddie-list and adding your personal contacts.
6)NOW if anyone wants to have their own made videos to be set as videotone, then convert the whole video(max 30 secs) to .3gp format, rename it to pre_vringo & copy it to My device/Application Data/Vringverwrite the previous file & restart the application.
7)REMEMBER-you need to have a working internet connection in order to login to this software, however after logging once,it dont requires it afterwards....try it & enjoy
I guess somebody try this out. Sometimes my phone lags enough as it is if I get a call while streaming music over BT. I probably dont have enough memory for this one a Titan.

This is what I use for 3gp (I just couldn't get a working 3gp from SuperC)
Just tried it on my i900 and it works for the existing videos but when I attempt to use of my own that I have edited to 30seconds or less (tried 30 and 18) it doesn't pick up the file at all?
I then went to upload file, wondering if I can upload it then download it (just out of curiosity) it was saying file size to large.
Not sure if or where I am going wrong, any advice?
Hi,
At Vringo.com I found a great selection of video ringtones from TV shows, movies, and bands.. It's also a great mobile video sharing site which allows to find and create video ringtones and then share them with our friends.

x1 profiles ?

what are you guys using for switching profiles ?
i'm looking for a basic profiles app along thelines of ppcprofiles or phoneweaver.
unfortunately, i cannot seem to get phoneweaver to work at all - changing profiles says that the notification has changed but it never does.
is anyone else having this problem or should i blame it all on tf3d ?
thanks in advance
I always use the SPB movile shell and want more profiles too!
you could use spb phone suite. it works but imho it takes up too much place on the today screen.

Hi there all,
you could use the Touch HD\ HTC profile manager. It can be found under the Xperia Programs, Panels and tweaks section for the Xperia. I was also looking for the same thing a while back, and found that.
hope that helps!

Can you post a link please? I can't find it and neither can the search engine.
At the moment I use SPB Phone Suite and it integrates into the Mobile Shell panel, if you don't like it on your today screen.
Sorry, my mistake... first post! Link Contained.

I dont think we are talking about the same thing? ... the volume control is just a new skin for setting the volume right? .. I think with profiles we mean like they are used in nokia phones where depending on your selected profile u ve a different ringtone, volume, message tone etc. ?
cause I d find something like this really useful .. at the moment I cant even figure out how to change the tone of when I receive a text message.
Looking at the Original Poster's request, I suggested a solution, which I thought fits the bill pretty well.
If you want to switch between silent, ring and vibrate then this does the job.
having read the request again, and googling the programs that mrdo tried, i see that i may have made a mistake. :S
The SPB Phone Suite is awesome! Well worth the dosh! Have as many profiles as you want plus automatic time or event based profile switching.

thanks for your input. i do have the touchstone volume control installed and it's very handy but i am looking for something that will allow me to switch ringtones, alerts and volumes at the touch of a button.
after a hard reset and yet another reinstall of my apps, phoneweaver still doesn't work. grrr and double grrr.
mrdo, what is the problem specifically? Is there an error on the device or do you start the application but nothing of significance appears?
I briefly tried phoneweaver and had the latter problem. Couldnt figure out whether it was running or not.
In the end I ended up giving up and going for the Touch HD simple profile manager.
I don't find HTC profile manager in that thread, can u post the direct link?

[REG] Better profile handling program

Hi guys, first post from me so excuse if theres some infos missing what you need, but I'll add as something is asked.
I'm a long user of Nokia phones and just changed my E90 into a Diamond. And the one thing that I really miss is that theres not exactly different profiles to choose from (or made your own). Theres only selections for silent and vibrate, other than the normal selections. And I really miss that from Nokia phones. Just a few simple clicks and phone has a loud theme with a different ringtone and SMS message sound, or then its almost quiet (like when my baby is sleeping).. I think you all get the picture, if you ever had Nokia phones =)
So my reguest is for someone to point out a program or if someone wants to make I would be glad, really glad I think some others would like these too
I could make another post but I'll just add few other programs also to here that maybe someone knows if there exists similar for Diamond
- BestProfiles (enable selected profiles to turn on at some time of day)
- FlipSilent (turn ur phone face-down and its on silent, works for alarming to go snooze)
- Putty (great for symbian phones but I found only programs that arent so good as this is)
Anyways thnx in advantage if someone can help a dude out...
PS. only had HTC for a few days but after starting using it I had to order a data-plan to my mobile and a better battery, but this was off-topic..
Try ageye's G-Profile (http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=gprofile/about), you get a fully 14-days working demo and full app is just 5€! One of the most happily money spent ever for my Diamond, now I even have it start playing music when I plugin earphones/carkit and stop when disconnecting!

I just installed it and it seems a fair try, tho it has a lot more possibilitys that i would actually need from a app might even help that dude out to translate it to my native language, like i just did to PocketShield, not finished yet but almost =)
Below again some off-topic, maybe some admin explains to me how to get rid of it =)
