Has anyone looked into Visual Voice Mail? Quite an interesting feature from iPhone. If there are any developed already. Can I have the cab files please?
sounds more like an operator feature
being that when the device is off or busy
calls dont have access to storing stuff in it's mem
and htc phones dont even support normal voice mail

Yes, looks more Network controlled service...but I am not sure what exactly you meant by 'normal voice mail' feature not able to work on HTCs.
Voicemail on my Xda orbit works fine

I'm wondering what people think about it... sounds interesting, but it transcribes your voice mails as text... I feel like it would lost something like that. Plus, its only free while in Beta. What do you guys think of it?

I've been using this for a while now...the transcription is poor but you can usually get the gist of a message and decide if it's worth listening to if you need detail. You get an email with the text and you have the choice of whether it includes a wav attachment of the actual voicemail (I choose to get the attachment so I can "play" the voicemail from the phone without having to dial in to voicemail. Some nice features is you get an email even if the person does not leave a voicemail so you know someone tried to call and it has enhanced callerid so if someone on a landline calls it grabs their name, address etc....you can add cell phone contact info to your "contacts" on the website and those will work too.
As for the only free while in beta...use it while you can..if they start charging I will sign up at k7.net for a free voicemail/fax # and use the call forwarding to forward to it...I will still get my voicemails AND faxes in email as attachments..I just won't have the text inside the email...

Not exactly visual voice mail as in iphone, but I think its possible to develop a software application residing in the device which can connect to carrier/network specific voice mail box (#121 on vodafone, #901 on O2 in UK etc.) to gather voice mail details and store it on the device itself. Once the voice mails are downloaded, application can mimic visual voice mail feature. The advantage is there is no need to call voice mail box number again and again to hear the voice messages once downloaded.
This is what I think Sridhar is expecting.

There was actually a post in the General forum a few weeks ago that showed how the visual voicemail worked on the iPhone. Essentiaelly, ATT sends a text message that's invisible to the iPhone with encrypted info on the callers name, number, etc... Also, abhaypatil's idea is most likely impossible unless the carriers provide some sort of API's with which to access the voicemail box, which is unlikely.

There was another program that was free while in beta that had a custom app you ran which was supposed to be "iphone like" for visual voicemail...was called "simulsays" or something like that.
Man what i would give for an iphone like visual voicemail.. drool

You can get a text message with a link to the VM, or get it as an email attachment. I've been using it for quite awhile, with excellent results.

same here that's who i would recommend i was using callwave at one point but there beta program ended if you don't mind paying i would say check out youmail and www.callwave.com
youmail has better features especially when it comes to voicemail customization i would like to say that i believe callwave has better transcript though i use the free version of youmail and i was part of the beta program for callwave
The hd2 does no longer show that a redirected call is coming in, as some people may have been used to see on other devices. You only see the number of the person who initiated the call.
Let's say phone "b" will be redirected to "c".
A caller "a" will call "b" and of course end up at "c".
The hd2 is phone "c" which isn't able to see that the call isn't a direct call.
Since even older mobile phones show a redirected call symbol I presume that the hd2 is hiding some information.
IS there a way to display enhanced caller id informations?
Maybe there is a way to show these details by registry settings or by using a tool.
Showing the reroute adress as well in the phone, or at least the symbol would be a start. The ability to see who is calling should be kept of course.

I just logged into my Google Voice Account, (I had a previous Google Voice # separate from my Sprint #) and now there is a Sprint logo next to my cellphone number that is linked to my Google Voice Account.
If I click edit, under my sprint cellphone number it brings up a new menu
You can now see there is checkbox where I can select if i want my text messages to come through google voice.
Old Functionality
That 'send text message' is old functionality and only gives GV permission to send various texts to that specific cell phone.
Once the integration is available to everyone (jealous of those in Beta, BTW) you will just click the 'Change/Port' link next to your current GV number.

Be careful! As of today, if you call Sprint tech support, they'll walk you through the "sprint integration" by getting you to PORT your number. They assured me it wouldn't port - but everything on googles site was saying "are you really sure you want to cancel your cell contract..." I bailed. Glad I did, as many others fell for this and lost their lines.
When you have the option in your account it will look different than what we see now...

Well, *as of today* that is the only option anyways... Just wait for the options to populate on Google's site. (as gtjacoby previously said)

When I try to do it, it tells me there will be a $20 charge payble via google check out.
If you get the $20 charge warning, that is the path to PORTING your number... DO NOT PROCEED.
Apparently some accounts are, in fact, active with the integration tools (beta accounts). They have an extra set of options that the rest of us don't.
Mojo, can you describe the options you had (or post some screen shots)?
They sent me the beta invitation about a month ago. As soon as I logged in, a screen popped up asking me if I wanted to use my existing gv number or use my sprint number. From what I've read on the net, it should be open to all sprint customers on the 26th.
Before the beta, I got that same $20 mesage to port my number over. Just wait!!!! Everyone should get the option soon.

I got an invite a couple weeks back and tried it out. I didn't like it at all. SMS kinda works but mms attachments don't. That's with the stock messaging program too. Until google fixes call routing, lag during conversations and adds the ability to send AND receive attachments in both stock and gv apply, I will keep everything separate. IMO it's not all what it's cracked up to be.

Google Voice is a call routing scheme. Basically, you'll be able to port your Sprint phone number as your Google Voice number. GV will then be able to take any call made to your Sprint number and route it where ever you wish - you can have it ring both your home phone and your mobile, your mobile and your work phone, your wife's phone too, etc. You can even set it up so that if certain people call you it will route differently. Also, all voice mail is stored on the GV servers and automatically transcribed (although typically not well). In theory it's very cool - kind of like a personal, virtual PBX. Sounds like there are a few technical hickups though.

There are two ways to enable the integrated service:
1. Option 1: Keep your Sprint number (all the benefits of porting without the need to). In this case, your Sprint number becomes your Google Voice number so that when people call your Sprint mobile number, it rings all the phones you want.
How to enable this: click on the "change/port" link next to your GV # in the settings page, choose the option to use your existing number, enter your Sprint number and select the Sprint option.
2. Option 2: Replace your Sprint number with your Google Voice number (all the benefits of the app without the need for one). In this case, all calls made from your Sprint phone will display your Google Voice # natively (same for SMS).
How to enable this: click on the "enable Google Voice on your Sprint phone" link next to your Sprint forwarding phone. If the link does not show, click on edit and use the link to verify whether your phone is eligible.
In both cases, Google Voice replaces Sprint voicemail (pressing one on your phone links you to your Google Voicemail) and international calls made from the Sprint phone will be connected by Google Voice. Integrating your account with Sprint means you will still get the benefits of Any Mobile Any Time if that is included in your service plan.
Important Notes:
The integrated service only works with a valid Sprint mobile number.
For this early release, Sprint support channels will not be available for support, including Sprint Retail Stores, Sprint Customer Care, Sprint Telesales, Sprint Direct Sales Reps, etc.
If you need support, or have feedback, please fill out this form
If you use the Google Voice app on Android, you will need to log out and log back in to make sure the app stops using call interception.

Search the internet...i once stumble upon a website on how to enable google voice outside US to call someone in the US..as i dont really have anyone to call in the US, i did not really pay attention..just by glancing thru..the site gives step by step direction from setting up an account right to the last step of making and recieving calls.

Yes. Get voip working.on your phone.
Get free short term fake USA telephone number voip from your sip provider, and forward it to your phone.
Search internet for the paypal test credit card numbers, pick say amex one.
Go to google voice website through anonymous proxy server based in USA.
register using an email that you aren't already using in uk gmail.
Done.
Phew.
I made some posts about my experience trying to get voip forwarding to work. (following a guide in this forum).
But it does. I used pbxes.org as sip provider.

Can you initiate calls directly from the google maps app?
I have the US wifi version and use GrooVe IP to make VoIP calls from my tab. It works great. I can directly select phone numbers in the browser to make outgoing calls. Unfortunately, Google has removed the feature to initiate calls from the maps app. That means when I use maps to search for a place that I want to call I have to remember the phone number, close down maps, open up my dialer app and punch the number in myself.
Is that the same for the 3G/4G version? If not, could someone post the map apk? Is there another way to add that feature? It works fine on cell phones, I don't understand why Google removed that feature on tabs?!? (granted they are wifi tabs but isn't that what Google Voice is for?)

I see no way to initiate a call from google maps on my verizon galtab 10.1 4g lte
(i also have groove ip installed)
If you go to the more info button, it will open a web page with the listing, including phone number but i think this is pretty clunky. The button doesn't work, so you have to copy and paste it manually still.
