Shortcuts to folders? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Been searching for about an hour now. Is it possible to make shortcuts to folders?
For example- I'm trying to make a shortcut to the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder, but every time, it can not find the file.
Is there a solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

Use Resco Explorer
I use Resco explorer all the time, that´s why I did never find it difficult..., It´s easy as use the desktop. Select the folder ("Programs", in your case), tap and hold, "Copy", go to the desired place where you want to add a link, tap and hold, and "paste as shortcut". Done!
There is an easier way, select the folder ("programs") an "send to" > "Start menu as shortcut". Done!
Download a trial on website!

The folder you want is located in Your device\windows\start menu\programs
also to see all files on your device you need to enter options in resco explorer, to do this click menu at the bottom right when resco explorer is open then click options then click general, now click browser then make sure all boxes have no ticks next to them. then click ok and you will now be able to see all files on your phone.

Getting a program on the start/programs menu

For some reason my Internet Explorer program never appeared on the
start menu or in the programs folder. Every time I want to open it I need
to use file explorer and open it from the folder. Does anyone know how I
get it into the program folder? I've even tried cut and paste but can't.
thanks
Brett
Start > Settings > Menus* > [x] Internet Explorer
?
Internet Explorer doesn't appear as an item to be checked. That's my problem.
ah
Start > Programs > File Explorer
browse for "iexplore.exe"
tap and hold on "iexplore.exe", then choose "Copy" from the popup.
browse to Windows\Start Menu\Programs
choose Menu, then Edit, then Paste Shortcut
rename the shortcut to just "Internet Explorer".
You'll then find IE in Start > Programs > Internet Explorer
And you'll also find it in that list to add it to the Start Menu.
Thanks for the idea but unfortunately it didn't work. I have tried the copy-paste idea on the xda and I get the message "Cannot copy 'iexplore': Executable and resource files in ROM cannot be copied."
If I try to do the copy-paste thing through the PC the "iexplore" file doesn't even show in the place I can clearly see it in the windows folder on the xda!
It's got me stumped.
cheers, Brett
Those phpBB errors are getting quite annoying.

Silly protectionisms in Windows Mobile...
Try the attached file - it contains a shortcut to IE. Just place the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ - should do the trick.
PRESTO!!
Thanks ZeBoxx. Worked a treat.

putting a folder link in program tab??

Greetings
1- Can I put a link to the Windows' program folder (the one that appears near the end of the "Start" menu) in the Manila's program tab??
2- Additionally, can I put a link to a folder (e.g. Games) from the Windows program's folder in the Manila's program tab?
Thanks in advance.
I would LOVE to know if this could be done. Fingers crossed.
You can. I have even put files there (Manila program tab)
The thing you have to do is create a shortcut of your desired objecti (prog, folder, tab) and put the shortcut to windows/start Menu/programs folder. I created an extra "Shortcuts" folder there to not mess up the look of PROGRAMS item in start menu.
The point is you can add any shortcut to tf3d progs tab as long as it is situated in the start menu folder

It seems that by clicking the newly created shortcut, it launches the explorer progam to show what is within the folder
Not very sexy, any chance that it stays in manilla to display the folder content?

not working for me either... i did exactly what you said.. i used the built-in Explorer to create the "programs" shortcut .. but whenever i click on the button mapped to that shortcut, i get the message "The file 'Programs' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componenets is messing...etc"
BTW, when i click on the newly created shortcut from the Explorer winodw, it opens the program folder in Explorer window too. What i need is to open the program folder in the same way it is opened when clicking "Start -> Programs"
Any ideas??
That's the same error message I got too.
Any help from anyone? I would like to know too cause mine is opening up the explorer too!
Bump. Hope this thread is not forgotten

how to add a shortcut icon to the start menu?

Hi, i have copied manually an application to the memory card of my htc touch diamond2, but i can't figure out how to link manually the executable of the app to the start menu.
Is there a way to do it?
Go to File Explorer, "copy" the executable file, go to "Windows\Startmenu\Programs\" and then "paste shortcut".
Don't know the exact english terms as i use a german device, but all you have to do is pasting *not* the executable, but only a shortcut to it.
After that, you can rename the shortcut to whatever you want
Click in the icon until it show the options, then click on copy, go to your desired location click menu and theres a option that says paste shortcut, thats it.
use Resco explorer, then go to the source folder.click in the icon until it show the panel, then click the send to->start menu, over.

Shortcuts to items in settings folder.

I want to make a short cut to bluetooth icon that is located in settings folder.
Any idea how can I do that? Being able to put it in to manilla screen short cut would be superb.
Bluetooth shortcut
Hi!
First install the attached cab file.
Then add it as a shortcut.

In case you don't know how, locate the file in file explorer and do Menu, Edit, Copy (or long-hold on the file and select Copy), then go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and do Menu, Edit, Paste shortcut.

Yep I see that now however I have already made shortcut to actual cpl file. Thx guys.
Sorry for misunderstanding.
I was interested to do this also, and tried to follow this old post:
since I still cannot post links, Google this:
Q: How can I create a shortcut to a program in settings?
It seems that it cannot be applied to Winmo 6.5, but it may be a lead to someone who knows how to adjust it to new Windows...
Edit: oops, didn't see the above replays...
If you just copy short cuts to settings folder they will appear in settings/system folder after soft reset

Creating shortcuts .

Hello there.
Ive been giving my hd2 a nice overhaul today and added a couple of apps which were not in a .cab format.
E.g just cpied all the program files over to the sd card. They both work fine but im having a problem linking shortcuts to the home screen quick links. Is there a program that lets you explore the entire folders to link them to quick links or a way around this. Ive had a browse and not really found anything helpfull. I have total commander and am able to edit the registry if that helps.
Thanks for replies in advance

I can make the shortcuts fine, its just pairing it up the the quick links, in HTC Sense.
For example, when you touch an empty quick link square there are three options, Program, Contact, and bookmark.
Maybe a program that adds a browse through folders option.
press and hold the executable, choose copy, browse to the windows/start menu/programs folder , press and hold, choose paste as shortcut and now it will show up when you do the quick link.

I want one that goes straight to "Movies" folder and I've tried using sktools shortcut manager and nothing shows up in the start menu though. If I just copy and paste a shortcut into start menu programs, then it doesnt launch and just says the file cannot be opened.......Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
press and hold on the music folder, choose copy, browse to windows/start menu press and hold, choose paste as shortcut. It will now show up for you to assign when you press a blank quick link

been searching for an answer to this and haven't gotten one yet.
i do exactly as instructed above (no problems if i am making shortcuts to individual exe, pdfs, etc.) problem is when making a shortcut to a folder (whether the folder is on the device or storage card makes no difference).
when i place a shortcut of a folder into the start menu it works if i 1) get to it via total commander 2)get to it by file explorer however it fails if 1) i get to it by pressing the start menu or 2) assign it as a quick link (get a message stating: "The file "XXXX" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.")
any ideas?
thanks!
HD2/TMoUS stock ROM
bump...anyone have ideas??
thanks!
I've the same problem! I can create shortcut to programs, a single file etc but can't create any shortcut to a folder.
When I clicked on the lnk for the folder in fexplorer or total commander, fexplorer will open with the folder listed. But if I clicked on the lnk from the launcher, the message : "The file "XXXX" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." appeared. I tried to create another lnk shortcut to a file and put it in the launcher and it works perfectly. Just that it dosen't work when the lnk is for a folder. Strange..........

Hi samsamuel,
Thanks for your reply. I followed exactly what you had written on post #35. But it did not work either. One strange thing I've noticed is that the .lnk file I've created and pasted on \Windows\Start Menu\ will auto disappear by itself! To be exact, I highlighted the .lnk file I've created and paste it in \Windows\Start Menu\ folder. Under file explorer, I browse to \Windows\Start Menu\ folder and I can see the .lnk file there. I proceed to close file explorer and reopen it and browse to the same folder but the .lnk file had disappear all by itself!!!
