Caisses : Sokoban Freeware - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi Everyone !
I don't post to much around here, but I read the news daily I wanted to do a little PPC dev for my HTC P3600 with a friend of mine, and as he's using linux, we couldn't go with all the microsoft compiler solutions :s
So we just went with CeGCC and coded are own and easy library ^^
Anyways, here's one of the games we made, I'll post the others later on
Caisses is a Sokoban clone that includes 500 levels and 14 different backgrounds and themes.
The original version of Caisses is Caisses DS, a Nintendo DS homebrew coded by Kukulcan.
In this game, you are a warehouse keeper, and your mission consists in arranging boxes by pushing them onto their designated locations...
Boxes can be pushed, but not pulled, and the controls are simple : either point to the spot to move to with the stylus, or use the directional pad !
Download Caisses
Oh, beware, this is PocketPC ONLY, you need the touchscreen to exit the app :s
edit : tested on Pocket 2003SE and up, not sure how it'll go for 2002 and lower :s

I'll just up this topic a little, did ANYONE test it ? :s

Touchscreen is unresponsive on my QVGA device (Kaiser) for the game options (eg Play/Help etc) and I really have to press really, really hard to activate the choice I want. The graphics are awesome but I got frustrated after the first 5 min struggling to press my screen and play the game further...eventually uninstalled the game...

Here's an update which should work much better :
1.05
- CPU optimizations
- Ram optimizations
- Support for WinCE GPS
- Added Check and Cross to show which games are finished and which ones aren't in the level selection screen...
- Optimized theme changing routine (you can just move around on the theme page, you don't need to click everywhere anymore)

1.06 update : level 80 fixed !

Versioin 1.10 is out :
- Restart button when ingame to avoid having to quit and come back (triggered by the softkeys on smartphone)
- Fixed minor glitch on the selection screen
- Added full DPAD support in the menu
- 240x320 smartphones can now play 100% !
- VGA-screen friendly !
- Updated source code

great game. works great on my kaiser.
i am almost sure that levels 280 and 320 are impossible though. (there might be others but i haven't completed every level yet)

got it from freewarepocketpc.net gota say grate simple game to take up time..
thanks for tha work..

FLIPSLIDE v0.95 RELEASED

Added a quick fix file for users with 0.95 installed
-Fixes the huge weather icon
-All programs including subfolders show up under programs
-volume control under settings just controls flipslide sounds not pda volume.
-also an option in flipslidelaunch.ini to turn of sound always just add false to the bottom.
-Tasks are organized properly and tasks with no due date don't display 1/1/01
Just unzip FlipSlide_0.95_Fix.zip below and copy to your \program files\FlipSlide directory on your pda, also delete your flipslide.ini and flipslidelaunch.ini files in the home \ directory.
Enjoy.
The new version which is dedicated to speed and size is coming along nicely, I may be able to finish it this weekend. It is about 7 times smaller in size and should hopefully be atleast 5 times quicker for load time and runtime.

WOOOW this is a great program, i installed it on my kaiser/tytn II but its QVGA, are you willing to make a QVGA version to, because i really love this, if it was commercial i would pay for it. the vga version works on kaiser.
Thanks in advance for considering..
greetings
Marcel van Blankers
Is there any QVGA version??
It seems very great I want to try it out..
Works good on my Axim X51V using WM6.1 but can I customize it? Don't use Media Player for example.. Also on the first page it shows tasks but no appointments! Anyway it's a great thing, one of the best I've tested so far!
Just in time to get nominated for the awards!Of course,without a QVGA version.....
Thans for the feedback
About the calendar, The calendar button on the front page is your daily planner. It shows only appointments for the day, you can press the arrors above it to go forward and back days and pressing the center bar returns you to your current day. If any on the front page icons have a green bar under it then that means you have data in it.
For the QVGA option, I do plan on building one however it's a little difficult because i only have a vga pda and I want to design it differently for QVGA, this program was designed to not have to use a stylus and take advantage of the large display. I want to use a diffent touch interface for QVGA that better maximizes the space for it's specs. But yes, it's in my plans.
For the video link, i've have problems getting one uploaded because i can't find the software to retrieve it from my camera an they don't allow you to download it. And software recorders for the PDA always seem to make it look choppy which it i not. If anyone doesn't mind recording a short vid and put it on youtube or somewhere i can access it I would be very greatful.
About customization, My next release I plan to allow changes to default programs for media, contact, tasks, dialer and such. I also plan of making this skinable. I definately agree withyou, I also don't use media player as my default player.
Thank you very much for all your feedback. I will keep posting more, I usualy create new releases each week or two.
:>
Chet Striker
thank you very I will test it and give you feedback!
about the calendar again, it has a green bar but when I press it doesn't show any entry! the tasks icon works for me!
It looks nice. I will try it.
Curious G
This is only for the VGAversion????
Thanks...
Might bring some competition to PointUI in later builds!
Feedback
Hey TacoLoco, I was wondering if you could give me more info about your calendar problem, like do you have appointments in microsoft calendar for the day? and if so are your appointments a single occurance or weekly, monthly or yearly appointments that are in microsoft calendar but not in flipslide?
also i was wondering what PDA and OS your using.
Any further feedback would be very helpful.
Thanks

HI, The download stops at 72%.. can you upload the file in this forum
thanks
The download finishes at 3.75MB plz seee pictures

Same problem here...
My Touch is QVGA...
QVGA project started
Ok, i'm starting the QVGA program today, It will probably be by this weekend or at latest by next before it's up. But It seems enough people are interested.
Since I don't actualy own a QVGA PDA, and virtualization runs unrealistically slow, I may need testing help from people along the way.

[GAME] DiamondTris - Tetris with support for VGA, stylus & wheel sensor

Updated: 2009-01-03, 21:05 (GMT+1)
Me and Swoop2 is creating a Tetris game for us HTC Touch Diamond users out there in need for a great one! Why I wanted to create a new Tetris game for the HTC Touch Diamond was because all of the Tetris games out there got some flaws (imo); not supporting VGA resolution, visually looking bad, running slow etc.. The closest thing I got was TeKnowMagic Tetris, but I wasn't satisfied either way. There's simply no Tetris game out there filling my requirements.
DiamondTris so far:
VGA resolution
Moving pieces - with the wheel sensor or via the on-screen buttons
Rotation of pieces - with the enter button or via the on-screen buttons
Line completion and destruction
Statistics: score, hi-score, level, lines done/remaining
Difficulties: easy, medium, hard (different speeds)
What needs to be done:
Some minior GUI tweaks
Sound effects
Settings (sounds, controls)
You'll need .NET Framework 3.5, which you'll find here
Changelog:
DiamondTris_20090103.cab:
Installs on device or internal storage
Creates a shortcut in Programs\Games
Pause function implemented
DiamondTris_20090102.cab:
New, better looking on-screen buttons
Added some statistics
Disabled piece rotation by tilting the device (needs further tweaking)
Application icon added
+1
sounds like a fairly simple and easy project... if only i had listened in class...
Why don't you get some pledges to encourage a developer
I would pay around £3 for a tetris game designed for our device
Not loads, but if enough people were too pledge their support...

good idea.
i'll let hays pay £3 for a Tetris game
(and i suppose i could chuck a few quid in as well )
Of course I'm in for some donations if this game is created
I started a very basic Tetris app for my touch diamond a while ago - just as a play around as my first Windows Mobile application. It uses the wheel for moving the current piece left and right and I was going to have a go at using the accelerometer to turn the piece clockwise/anticlockwise (i.e. a flick to the left or right).
I've never used OpenGL or anything so it was just done using a timer and the graphics object off the OnDraw event. I got as far as creating the grid, drawing the pieces, moving them around and knowing when lines were completed, etc. Still had a lot to do but it was a proof of concept more than anything else.
I'm just a normal application developer and develop form based applications and back end stuff. If I can get to where I am with my effort in the time I have, then someone who knows how to write games properly could easily do something really good.

Ah, that sounds great! Got any plans on continuation of your work? Onscreen buttons instead of accelerometer sounds even better imo, and is easier to do I think..?
Care to share your source? I can have a look at it myself and see if I can get into Mobil application programming too... or at least someone else here can continue on your base work.
I do plan on finishing it at some point - though I'm not 100% sure when! I don't mind sharing the code anyway, so once I'm back home I'll try and remember to put it on here.

Sounds cool. Looks like I might get a good weekend after all! Do... not... forget... the... add... the source code!
Here's the source code. It is VERY much a work in progress. I started it as a windows application and ported it over to WinMob6. Here's a list of things that I know I still needed to do:
1. Optimise the graphics to get rid of the irritating flicker.
2. Add the piece rotation.
3. Add the score and level display, etc.
4. Decide on the size of the grid (considered leaving it customisable).
5. Add score saving and option saving, etc.
6. Add some backing music.
They're the things I can remember off the top of my head anyway. Lemme know if you have any ideas or questions, etc.

Sweet! I'm at home now, downloading all the requried applications to put up a proper environment here... big packages, so it'll take a while until I'm set.
I'll see if I can manage to do anything, and in case - I'll get back to you
Hi there again Swoop2!
Just tweaked the grid some, added some stats + onscreen buttons (stretched until later ;P) and changed some minor stuff. Here's my latest source. Thanks for sharing!
There's still bunch of stuff to tweak and add. Adding rotation to the game would make it fairly playable. The screen flickering is quite annoying, but perhaps we'll manage to get it working right in the future
Also adding a screenshot of how it looks with the current source.
EDIT: removed the source code, since there's a newer one out there.
Hi Sibbor
That's looking pretty good mate - I like it! I already have some ideas on how to fix the flicker - for the majority of the time anyway. Rendering the image as a bitmap in the background and then just drawing that should hopefully work like a double buffer or something. Also, only invalidating the relevant part of the screen instead of all of it should make a difference too. It worked for my other application anyway.
I'll try and have a play with it this week and send you an update

Sounds great! Made a few more changes but haven't got the latest source available here at work. I'll see if I can get time to upload it later. Otherwise it doesn't matter too much.
I reacted at the code where the grid updates, but have too less experience with WM6 and .NET to actually optimize this to a grade where we'll have no flicker at all. So with other words: I'm looking forward to your anti-flicker code !
I should finally have some time to look at this at the weekend so if you have an updated version can you post it on here?

Hi again mate! Good to hear. Sadly I haven't been able to get too much done since last time, but I'll attach the current source now.
Thought about the rotation and how to create it. Had an idea where you could destroy the current piece when rotating, and creating a new - rotated - piece at the given location. You got any ideas about it otherwise?
I've been looking for a decent Tetris game for Diamond/TP myself.
Question: are you planning on implementing the scrollwheel to move the pieces? I think that would be a nice touch.
Good luck on this. I'll donate to the cause when you guys have something.

this is definately a worth while project, i wasted my time for about 3 hours looking for a nice tetris game 4-5 days ago and came up with very nasty looking basic tetris clones.
which all sucked, id donate £5-7 just for saving me the time!!

I also spent some time looking for some decent versions of Tetris but they all flopped.

Dosbox 0.72 CVS with dynrec core

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up... n0p posted on his site a few days ago that he has been working on the aforementioned project, but he would like some help. Since this guy has already released both 0.61 and 0.63 for WM, I have a lot faith in him.
I see only two issues;
1) His site doesn't seem to have any contact info. Does anyone know him? Does he post here? If people want to help, it would be good if they posted his contact info.
2) n0p is apparently still using a iPaq 2210. We should seriously donate this guy some money to put towards newer tech. He has released so much good stuff for WM (Warcraft II, Genesis emu, PocketSNES, etc), we should try to give back to him a bit. I'll gladly be the first to donate!
PS - Sorry if this is a re-post. I could find any other references to this here.
Donate all you want but don't encourage him to get a new PocketPC! Ancient hardware equals tighter code and more optimizations for a software developer
n0p updated his site, you can find his email on the front page.
Great! Glad to hear someone got ahold of him.
Well, I'd hate to make things more complex, but at bare minimum some thought should be given to different resolutions since the vast majority of WM devices coming out now are VGA, WVGA or greater.
Some keyboard fixes would be nice too since using 'shift' or 'function' on any HTC device causes Dosbox to crash.
No one else interested in this?
I'm interested! Heh
He updated his site a few days ago, and there's a new build
Quote interested, just don't know how to help (other than donating)
There is a WIP-Build ready on his site:

He's got an anti-leech script, so direct linking wont work. You have to download it from his site

DOSBox 0.72 released!
Credits:
DOSBox Team for best DOS emulator ever!
Cool toolbars by Jehl Xavier
Fast update code by Yury Sidorov
Built with fastest compiler GCC 3.3.3 for PocketPC by mamaich
ARM dynamic core by M-HT
What is done:
Some speed-wise core hacks.
QVGA scalers. Full 8bpp support, partial 16bpp support (320px wide modes)
All fine goodies from previous releases.
Notes:
Normal and prefetch cores removed. Simple is combined with verysimple, as verysimple has fallback to simple. So core has three settings: simple, full and dynamic.
Memory requirements: 9MB dor DOSBox itself + memsize + 8MB if dynamic core is used.
Personally, i don't see much use for dynamic core unless you wanna run some old 4K intros - yes, it can ran them really fast!
GUS and MIDI removed.
DOSBox port now makes usage of mapper.
Quick list of PocketPC-related dosbox.conf options (they do have a description in configfile), just some notes here:
fullscreen=true - false is only for testing.
rotateright=false
kbdtoolbar=toolbar.dbk
gametoolbar=game.dbk
settoolbar=set.dbk
usescancodes=false - i think setting to true might break PocketPC hw keys compability.
sensitivity=300 - "Mouse" speed. Has effect on touchpadmouse and dpadmouse.
touchpadmouse=true
clickms=70 - increase this value if in touchpad mode your program doesn't respond to emulated "clicks".
rightclickdelay=700
dpadmouse=false
forcetoolbar=true
forcetransparent=true
forcezone=0,0,20,8 - very dumb parser used, don't add spaces between values.
forceheight=50
PocketPC mapper.txt values:
hand_mbtn_left "key 194" - Left mouse button.
hand_mbtn_right "key 195" - Right mouse button.
hand_mbtn_mdl - Middle mouse button.
hand_force_tlbr "key 193" - Toggle toolbar forced mode.
hand_mm_up "key 273" - if dpadmouse - move mouse up.
hand_mm_down "key 274" - ... down
hand_mm_left "key 276" - ... left
hand_mm_right "key 275" - ... right
Quick answer to "How can i get my key codes?" - Fire my Genesis Plus port, open ROM, press keys - their codes will be shown on screen.
Lacks:
VGA support, full 16bit modes support, 32bit modes support, new toolbar editor.
It's been updated to 0.73 for a while, and there was a new release a couple of days ago as well. Still no VGA support
You can grab it at his site: http://n0p.8bit.fm/
The site in the original post doesn't seem to work

[GAME] HG-Proton v0.9.1 :: Powered by HG-Engine (2009/10/14)

I've created first game based on my HG-Engine, here you are. It's simple touch game for test your finger speed
I recommend landscape position for play with both thumbs...
You have to click on the nearest red proton (+) before it reach the front.
Be carefull, speed gets higher and wrong tap decreases your score!
Note: It's only beta version, future development depends on public feedback!
Have a fun and post your highscore ;-)
(C) ShaWn.cz
"Straight from the lab" version here
Changelog:
0.9.1:
Fixed loading issue incidented on some devices causing app crash
0.9:
HighScores are saving!
Difficulty setup
New mode: Accept electrons
G-Sensor and Light can be turned OFF/ON
Improved graphics
0.8:
Initial public release, only concept
Nice
2208, I look forward to more titles using HG-Engine. Good Job.
[bug]
.. As I was typing this, I left the game over screen open. After ~5 minutes the screen went into sleep mode and the device started a light vibrate that never stopped. I could not turn on the screen and no button presses helped. Had to restart device. [HTC Touch Pro].
Tried to repeat the bug: It didn't vibrate this time but the screen becomes completely black and I'm unable to do anything.
Atleast a screenshot ? Resolution info ?
Thanks for the game hope you keep developing it
Screenshots added... This game is mainly for WVGA, but may works also on VGA devices.
I'll look on that sleep mode bug, but it's not critical, game is playable... so now I have more prior ideas ;-) anyway, thx for report
Very good work, the game looks great and the feeling while you play is awesome
Wow! really nice! The HG-Engine is really cool.
Here are my suggestions:
Try to improve the smoothness of the reaction from the G-Sensor (You can look how the Diamond VR Hologram smoothness setting works).
Try to improve the sensitivity of tapping (I find myself tapping the cubes more than once most of the time).
Add levels of difficulty or game modes. Try color coding or moving blocks.
Looking forward to new games or new versions!
I like it, runs perfect on topaz TD2.
You may make a tetris or dr.Mario like games. The point, use cool game soundtracks (May 8-bit like NES, or good remixes ). Simple games with good soundtracks, always remembering easy i think.
Check out this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N6D4YeW9do
Really cool soundtrack i think, so i remember this game easily.
Version updated to 0.9 ;-) Check out new features at first post!
I'm working on G-Sensor smoothing algorithm, but it's not important thing for now. It's 3:50 AM here, so I'm gonna sleep, GN & HF!
Omnia
but i can utilies this application on my omnia?
nice game, just a couple of suggestions:
is it possible to replace the cube with slightly bigger cylinders- this might make it look slightly finger freindly
also removal of the graphics to simple shaded colours might make and improvement in speed
finally would it be too difficult to make the objects appear randomly, (this might mean more coding for you)
a few suggestions thats all
p.s it works quiet well on my diamond although a bit sluggish at times
nice work
TytnII
I have TyTn II, Is it compatible?

Sorry, it's not... Requires G-Sensor and WVGA or VGA display.
For others: graphics will be improved to final version... You don't have to tap proton itself, clickable is full area of display, so you can tap the corner ;-)
It is a pitty you can not run it on non HTC device, you get an error when invoiking GSensorSDK.HTCGSensor - do you consider the game to hndle that nicely and worki without GSensor?
Okay, I'll build "no g-sensor" version for uncompatibile g-sensors and devices without it ;-)
This game is additively fun! Great job!
Maybe a bit of difficulty setting would be better, it seems as thought it increasingly gets more difficult as time goes by. I like that it does this, but eventually it gets to a point that its simply moving faster than i can tap no matter how great i am at it
Id like a more constant difficulty i guess... hey, if this is all i have to complain about than it must be really good lol. Im looking forward to more HG-engine releases!
Thanks
Hey HTC-Fan,
great job. It works well on my HTC-D with Sun Y 6.1 B3.
Waiting for new levels or game
Regards
Golf
Hi there
Are you still developing this? I just came across it on pocketpcfreeware and I think it is pretty cool.
My suggestions:
Technical:
A soundtrack
Some SFX
Use the vibrate function when you make a wrong tap
Shake the screen a bit when you make a wrong tap
Conceptual:
Lose lives instead of points for tapping an electron?
Make the 'well' deeper to allow more scope for interaction with other objects
Add in some more 'enemies' for variety e.g. positrons which you can steer into electrons using the g-sensor or gestures for non-sensor devices?

[APP] rumen's Guitar - WM6 guitar aplication with chords

App name: rumen's Guitar
License: Freeware
System requirements:
OS: WM5 and higher, CF3.5
Hello everyone,
recently I've been searching for a working guitar aplication for WM6 and full touchscreen (like HD2) but I didn't find anythig useful.
So I decide to wrote one by myself. This app is far away from perfect, but I'm new in developing and I will improve it in the future.
I will upload and some videos soon.
For future implementations :
- load text files in that empty text box - for song and lyrics that you can see them during playing;
- increase the quality of sound - it is very poor now;
- multitouch - if it is possible;
- improve speed of playing;
- to put some strings ;
- distosion ......
There is a lot of things that can be done. This is just a start point.
See you soon.
Rumen.
Newer version available: v1.1
New feautures:
1. Strings and some graphic.
2. Text box for lyric and chords with buttons for movement.
3. Load, edit and save txt files.
Newer version available: v1.2
New feautures:
1. Added exit function - File ->Exit
2. Workable link in help menu.
Thanks!!!
Nice app and great job, Rumen! WM 6.x really misses guitar-simulation apps. The only one I've known so far is Iperov's guitar. So, big thanks for you work!
I've been working on guitar app too. Hope to publish it on XDA-developers soon.
As for the version 1.1 of you app:
It would be great if an app didn't stay in memory when it is closed by pressing cross button.

Well, actually this is a WM function - programs are not closed when you press
X button, there are just minimized and stays in memory.
However, I will add an exit function this night
just download it and looking forward to give it a try... 1000 appreciation to rumen...
excellent
Thanks big for the excellent program!
This best that is today. I like a sound and speed of its work.
If you have a possibility to make little changes it would be ingenious!
1. To choose skin for the program (without a text field).
2. Work in the full screen.
3. A sound stop through long pressing strings.
4. Record, listen and save the played melodies. Background playing.
5. Sound change (acoustics, electric, rock, metal).
I will be glad to see your new work.
