Hi,
Which one do you recommend?
I am looking for a good passive car holder for the touch dual.
You know, the one that can solidly hold the device
Thanks.

PASSIVE car holder

Hi.
I spent some time searching, but I failed and need your help. Again.
I need a car holder for my Kaiser, but:
1. All passive holders I found have no miniUSB plug mounted at the bottom. And I'd like to insert my device into the holder without playing with cables.
2. The only holders with miniUSB at the bottom I found are active holders (Brodit , Carcomm, some customs) and include a microphone and/or loudspeaker which make the holder bigger and more expensive.
Do you know any PASSIVE car holder for Kaiser with miniUSB at the bottom?
www.proclipusa.com
I believe what makes a holder passive rather than active is that it does not have anything to plug into . So a Kaiser car holder with a miniUSB at the bottom would, by definition, be an active, not a passive, holder
I thought that passive holder is the one that is offers some functionalities - like loudspeaker or something.
Anyway - I need a holder with miniUSB plug and without speaker/microphone.

Proclip looks OK (http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpath=143&pageid=13249&processor=content&pcategoryid=13722&categoryid=16794&p_origin=143&p_sectionid=143&p_pageid=8900&p_processor=asp&p_asp_processor=product&p_action=proclipcategorysearch&p_ppagecategoryid=&p_pagecategoryid=&p_pcategoryid=13722&p_categoryid=16794&p_sitecategoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=1082&p_leftorright=), but - hello - a simple holder is more expensive than Brodit active holder with microphone and speaker (100 EURO)?
P.S. I've just found this: http://www.xpda.de/shop/oxid.php/sid/x/shp/oxbaseshop/cl/details/cnid/d7f466e97409c08a5.26246057/anid/132473c22dc79d690.58242095/k4mobile-Handsfree-Kit-HTC-TyTN-II//changelang/1
Now need to find a good deal for it (with shipping to Poland).

Car kit that will fit a Ford Puma

Ok so short story is that we've written off our old 1994 Honda Civic which I had a Brodit active car kit and mount for. So im looking at buying a new (used) car and one that has caught my eye is a 2001 Ford Puma.
Ok so this might sound sad but one of the things i've been checking is if I can get another proclip mount for that model of car (it says something when the choice of car is dictated by my kaiser) but unfortunately according to the proclip website they don't make one for that model of car.
So im just wondering what my options are?
I dislike suction goosenecks as they are in my field of vision and as I want to charge the Kaiser as I go (because of using the GPS) I don't want a cable trailing up to the windscreen.
Anyone got any ideas (apart from some blue tack on the dashboard
What website did you look on? I looked on DSL Developments (where I get my Brodit kit from ) and they've got one for a 2001 Puma (R.H. Drive) - check out http://www.dsldevelopments.com/sitegfx/Brodit_Images/652293-4.jpg
HTH,
Mark.
Proclipusa I looked on, i'll check that link you gave now.
Edit: excellent, plus exactly where I would want it to go (was looking for one for a hyundai coupe as well as that was another choice of car but it was way down near the gear stick)

car kit?

hi there,
i am searching for a car kit, but did not find any at htc's and do not really want to get one of those big generic ones... anyone got an idea?
Hi
Brodit are probably the best for car kits, I have one and works well (once you can find somewhere to place in car). Not cheap, but then cheap is generic. You buy the components to make a unit i.e. holder, passive or active mount etc.
http://www.brodit.com/
Many resellers and also find some on ebay.
Cheers

Is it possible Android / Flip up car stereo?

We have seen phones that have laptop docks for a bigger usable interface. We have seen phones hook into a huge touch screen monitor and work well. Would it be a feasible idea to have a phone plug into a flip up car stereo and mirror the touch screen. I use my phone all the time in the car whether its for music, navigation, information or anything else. It would be great to be able to plug my phone into my stereo and have a bigger touch screen right there on the radio. Just a thought and wondering if its possible.
probably possible. i think it is more feasable to have a hole cut into the dash to house a 4.3'' fone with a usb/headfone jack.

Or just a dock or stand. But this seems like a better idea. It would be a lot easier with the newer cars with usb/3.5mm jacks preinstalled.
It would be cool to see this thread flourish, Car mods! I'm trying to create a dock in my car for my phone, so that I cun use it to control my radio garage navigation or any other instance of automotive life, like even check the status of the engin.

I fancy getting a cheap 5-7" tablet for this job - My 10.1 Gtab would look plain silly mounted as a sat nav and wouldn't last 5 minutes if left unattended.
Try using Vlingo or Google Car Home for starters. Vlingo will read your texts aloud and allow you to reply with using your hands. You can also start navigation or send messages completely hands free by saying "Hey Vlingo!" prompting it to auto listen for the next command.
Next up if the free version of Torque(or paid for if you need).
This connects to your car via a cheap bluetooth ODB2 device (~£15 on the bay)
This will give you access to readings such as mpg, speed and any engine error codes.
There are also plugins such as a video/data recorder.
I can't post links to the android market pages of these apps as I've not made 8 posts yet but they're easy to find!

My ultimate setup that I would like to see would be a radio that has a touch screen flip out that I can plug my phone into and have it mirror my phone. That way I wouldnt have to have a seperate tablet and phone that have a different setup. Essentially this would turn the radio into a mini tablet with your phone being the host for the screen. Thanks everyone for the replies!!
I would dearly love this!
I wuould like it werry much too
It has been my dream for a long time too… They have made it for iphone, maybe we will have it for android too some day.
Please make a google search with the string below (I am a noob. I am not allowed to post links yet):

Cheers!
Wonder if it will work with gooapple. And does it just use ur current Pandora app or does it have a Pandora app of it. I just want to use my Pandora app. http://telematicsnews.info/2011/05/...n-in-car-display-comes-to-aftermarket_my2211/

There is a kickstarter campaign product that allows you to combine your phone with the car stereo into a single double-DIN device. Currently, they have working faceplates for the iPhone 4 and 4S but they are developing Android ones as well.
Check it out: [I can't post external links but a simple search of "kickstarter dash" will take you right to it.]
You know, this would be quite simple with an MHL adapter and a method to send touch input to the screen, which im sure is out there.
TFT LCD Developers Kit
There is a developers kit for a 7" TFT LCD, now I realize this is a full microprocessor board. It does run android, perhaps it has something in its code that is usable, or point to what hardware is required to interface with a smartphone.
Not enough posts yet, so just Google this:
LS6410 SAMSUNG ARM11 S3C6410 board kit 7" TFT LCD (Android)
love this thread . im going to get a nexus one or zte blade and mount it up to the space above my stereo . going to put a bigger antenna on it to help boost gps speed. hook it up to power . and have a full size sd card instead of micro sd . wire it to aux audio. it will music and navigation system.
I just bought a 7.0 galaxy plus 3g with this in mind. I got rid of my phone when I bought this tablet too. I spoke on my phone 15 minutes last month and all that was in the car. I can do that with voip...
I intend to do this install on a 2011 wrx. I just bought the JDM radio bezel that is 6.8x3.9 inch cut out (stock usdm is 8" wide). With a bit of dremeling I should be able to slide my tablet directly into the top of the bezel. I plan to put a backing plate so it looks finished with the tab removed. I want removal to be painless. As I plan to use this tablet a lot.
I'll be completely nixing the head unit in my car. To provide power to the speakers I will buy a clarion equalizer and a smallish 300w 4 channel amp probably the nice alpine on amazon for 120 bucks.
Here's where the fun begins! Audio out should be no big deal. I found cables that split the 3.5mm trrs audio into audio out and mic input. So I'll just run rca outs to my clarion eq and run my mic into the device. Done!
My wrx has steering wheel controls. These tie into a stock unit typically. That's no fun. I plan to buy a sparkfun ioio with bluetooth and intercept the SWC signals. Then using the google ADK I can read the pin signals and respond to things like skip track, volume, mode (use mode to switch open apps), pick up, hang up and voice command. I also want to use the ioio to interface with the headlight dimmer and illumination as well.
I just got my tab a few days ago. My bezel should be coming in the mail early next week. Once the bezel is done, I'll rip out the head unit and do the amp and equalizer install. At that time I'll capture the steering wheel control voltages and start hacking on the ioio.
I'll start a project thread for all this once I do the amp install.

Replacing 2014 Corolla S head unit

I'm in the market for an android head unit. The OEM one in my car is now not working and Toyota wants an arm and a leg for a new one. Instead of just buying an OEM one off EBay. I wanted to buy an Android one. Any suggestions? Also I had a few questions.
I had GPS in my car, so do I need to still use the external GPS antenna?
I have the same question for the microphone. Less wired the better.
Thanks!

1. I used the one that came with the replacement HU, but you could try an fakra adapter. If you dont know what that is, best use GPS antenna that comes with replacement; concealed under dash should be sufficient .
2. Yes, if you are skilled or have access to a skilled electronics tech. No adapter exists. Starts with reverse engineering from toyota electrical wiring diagram.
For my 2010 Blade (corolla hatch with 3.5l v6) I made an interface for the oem MIC and used the GPS that came with the new MTCD JY.
Anyone have an idea what port #8 in this picture is? There was an adapter that has a male usb end and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to plug it in anywhere?
