Mobile Security Camera - Mogul, XV6800 General

Is there a way to put up a security camera in your office and view it from your mogul??

YES
If you purchase an ip camera you would be able to view the streaming content from the camera with tcmp or wmp by entering the cameras address. You also could have the softare email your mogul to alert you of motion by entering your phones email address obtainable from your service provider usually your phone # @providers domain. Further more you could even control the camera if it supports this with flash and or java support in pie with cabs that can be found on this forum.
Hope i helped
http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/about-ip-network-video-cameras.html
as far as the static ip if you are cable it won't change unless you reboot the modem but if you have the camera set to email you you will have its ip address whenever their is motion anyway encase of power outage or something.

Sweet, anyone have any camera recomendations? Also any ideas on the portable wireless camera? (ie caould take it camping [place with no internet conection] and leave it in the tent [remote location viewed via wifi or blutooth] and see it on my mogul??)

Your not trying to spy on a GF that is going on a camping trip are ya?
Try this place to get you started...

You can also use ORB (free, orb.com) to stream a webcam from your pc. I do this when we're going out stargazing in the backyard, but want to keep an eye on the sleeping kids. Its a great makeshift video baby monitor.
For the other way around, there's an app called CoolCam which I used to use on my tornado and Wizard which can utilize the phone's camera and stream its input to an IP address. Start coolcam on the device, open the CoolCamXP software on the windows PC, and you can see whatever the phone sees. Uber-cool.
So, basically, at any given point in time I was able to watch whatever is going on at my desk on my phone by using ORB, and when at the desk, I can see whatever was going on by the phone with cool cam. It would have been nice to be able to do BOTH full duplex, like a video phone, but sadly there is no good way to do that with the current setup.
In any event, the problem now is that coolcam does not (yet) support the Mogul. It will soon.

That's sweet, I'll be keeping an eye on that one.
I also checked out kintronics but I couldn't find anything that was standalone capable.
Here's another scenario for the stand alone cam. || Camera placed at the end of a hotel hallway to monitor the outside of your room, while you"re in it. Then the camera is moved so you can check the inside of your room over your phone while you're not in it..|| I travel a lot...
Anyways I really appreciate all the advice guys keep it coming, and to anyone who can help me out with the scenario above, I just got a paypal!

I can't seem to find the coolcam app, anyone have a url?

I have the Panasonic BL-30 webcam setup at home,I use a app called ViewCommander on my Mogul to monitor my house anytime while i'm away from my home.

where did you get your panasonic bl-30 from? how much do they set you back? im looking to get a few cameras. like 3 or 4. not sure where i can go to start looking for something like that.
also, where can i find the ViewCommander App. ive searched and no go.
thanks.

thanks 2kmy477, still looking for a camera that doesn't require a wifi connection. Or wait does the mogul act like a router for the camera to connect to??? that would simplify things!! hum...

SiriusXM Alternative App?

I've tried the C-Apsiro app and it works fine my only complaint is the music is kind of low compared to the windows media player on the phone and the tf3d music player we used to have starplayr as a alternative app but it either discontinued or started charging a fee.
is there a official siriusxm radio app out there? or any alternatives?
i've also tried the siriuswm5 app in the sticky but that doesnt connect on my tp2 and the channel list is out dated. any others?

SiriusWM5 might not be connecting today, because no online apps are working now, including the Official Iphone App. It appears Sirius is re-working all of their online content and only the Official Sirius Webpage is running now. I've confirmed that SiriusWM5, C-Aspiro, Iphone and uSirius are not working.
Dwight2001
I have used the SiriusWM5 app for quite sometime. I was not aware of other apps for Sirius out there. Can you post any links? I will search too.

sirius wm5
hello, are there any fixes to get siriuswm5 working again?
CONFIRMED: How to get your SIRIUS fix...
I just about started pulling my hair out in clumps, but I finally found a solution.
If you have the iPhone:
Pocket Tunes Radio: http://www.pocket-tunes.com/
** Not sure if it does Stern, but definitely does SiriusXM on the iPhone, no Windows Mobile SiriusXM Support **
If you have a SmartPhone/Windows Mobile (non-touchscreen, including BlackJack II, which I have)
SelectRadio: http://www.selectradio.com/
** Developer released a fix that is essentially a DLL overwrite. This method works! Delivers 32 and 128 streams, Howard is back in my car! DOESN'T REQUIRE CAPTCHA AND SAVES YOUR LOGIN / PASS!!!**
If you have a PPC (or Windows Mobile Touchscreen)
C-ApiSRO: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=26310
** Developer did a 11/16 release that for now fixes the issue **
Of course, you always have the SiriusXM App for the iPhone, but no Howard Stern. I for one am personally highly upset that SiriusXM is making such a stupid move by overlooking cell phone internet users for their service. If they keep trying to sell those stupid radios, it's going to be over for them quickly.
SelectRadio has a 10-Day Trial, then you have to buy. Tewnty-five bucks, but weigh that against what the program can do and that the cheapest SiriusXM radio in the stores is about $60. Not to mention the app uses low resources (infinitely better than the Skyfire workaround) and also does XM and about a bajillion other stations. Well worth $25 to me, especially since my BlackJack II can go from speaker (which is pretty loud) to car casette adapter to headphones to line-in to pretty much any audio system... No Stiletto or portable they make will EVER do all of that.
And for the record, I am in no way affiliated with the maker of any of these apps, I just was freaking out looking for a good solution and finally found a few, including one that has me listening again. I preferred SiriusWM5, but oh well...
At least I'm listening the way I want to.
SelectRadio has a touchscreen version. The C-ApiSRO app is primarily touchscreen. The latest version should be in the post.
I used SelectRadio all the way home on my drive (30+ miles). Worked like a charm. SiriusWM5 was usually 51K bitrate. Got a solid 128K this time .
Give it a whirl. I doubt you'll be let down. The interface is a little clunky at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
C-ApiSRO latest is from May of this year. The 11-16 date was in 2008 Been using it for a while w/ no issues, works decent if your connection is good.
~Eric
Oops, I said May, it was March *sigh*
v2.0.5 March 19th 2009, which I think is the only zip. I was using it for the last 6 weeks (including yesterday) with no issues.
~Eric
This goes deeper than we may notice.
I was able to login and start streaming on my desktop today, so online is not an issue.
SiriusWM5 stopped working on my (hacked) Tilt. (I know this is a Rhodium forum, but the app is the same, right?)
I had my laptop tethered thru my Tilt using Internet Sharing. I was not able to get anything streaming thru the tethering.
I was able to access the Sirius player and get things playing through SkyFire though. Clunky, but it did play.
It makes me wonder if they detected the IP as a mobile one and that is also part of the problem, not just the coding of the app?

No. Not unless your cell company is blacklisting the traffic, in which case skyfire would not let you log on. Debunked.
The problem is that the infrastructure of the player is totally different now. It's still using MD5 for encrypting pass to the server, etc. But the stream targets have changed. This was done by XM's dev team. I actually made a phone call to product dev in NY and they confirmed it. They also simply said that 3rd party app support isn't in the cards, and that they are "working on" a player. Whatever, meh.
But anyway, stop trying to use Sirius WM5. Not only is the channel list out of date in the CAB, the code is trying to grab the captcha and stream from the wrong place. SelectRadio works. And, it gives you the 128k stream. If you have a touchscreen device, try C-ApiSRO. Most are reporting success with it.

I got an am using v2.0.5. It says connected ok (password etc.) but won't play - says "unable to load channel"; any ideas?
> I used SelectRadio all the way home on my drive (30+ miles).
that one says "no login server or bad login" next to a little green icon of a radio tower, even though I'm using the same username/password that works fine from a desktop browser. It claims it knows what's playing on each one (has a song title scrolling), but no sound coming.
What am I doing wrong?!? Do they have a support link? I can't find one on their website.
thanks,
Mike

I've noticed that sometimes SelectRadio does this, but mainly because the initial connect is timing out. The tower can be red, and I still get it. Just pick another channel, then go back to the channel you want. It will usually work fine after that. I've only had to restart the app once, mainly because AT&T sucks total ass and drops my WAP connection.
Also, make sure you put the username and password for your Sirius account in before you try a channel. Sirius customers that have the premium internet account should hear best of XM channels, but the XM tab will not work. That obviously requires an XM internet account.
Can't use the default file explorer. If you do, the tun.dll you drop in the folder will be named "tun.dll.". It will not get the extension right. I had to install, then browse to the folder using a program called The Tool (http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/File-Manager/The-Tool-Smartphone-84530.shtml) and delete the existing dll file. Then, I copy/pasted the new dll file into the folder. Voila, working.
Try that. I had more or less the same problem you are describing. The dll file being in the wrong place was the culprit. Oh, and you may want to install directly to the device instead of an SD card. I think the access time of the SD card can make WinMo progs act wierd sometimes.
The nag screen is a pain, but I plan on purchasing a key tomorrow (payday). SiriusWM5 using Windows Media Player Mobile worked fairly well, but SelectRadio is holding onto the connection a bit better. Either that, or it buffers the stream more. Trust me, I am horrendously picky when it comes to my apps, and this thing will inevitably work for you.
Let me know what happens...

C-ApiSRO is broken as well. The only one that seems to be working now is SelectRadio. This is just plain dumb that none of the free apps are working now thanks to a move on the server side at Sirius.
I think CardonWare (SelectRadio dev company) has posted a newly updated version that takes care of the dll issue. You may want to uninstall everything and start over.
I did a TrialPay and chose Rhapsody 14 day trial. Got a key for SelectRadio, then cancelled the Rhapsody trial.
Total cost? ZERO... POINT... ZERO .
Oh, and I have noticed some random errors in grabbing some Sirius channels. E-Street Radio for example can't connect at the moment. Random wierdness. But Howard 100 and most other channels I try are fine. Experiment heavily.
Alright, I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and can't for the life of me figure out how to get Sirius or XM working on Select Radio, I continue to receive the 'no connection to stream server' error. Anyone else encounter this and if so, anything you could point me towards?
Thanks!
Thanks all, selectradio is working right now on my sprint touch pro 2, listening to howard right now.
I did have to exit the app and start it again, then enter my user login etc. and it started right up at 128kbs. so far does evrything siriuswm5 did. wish it had a screen toggle on/off feature.
above poster, some screens were slow to load at first when i started clicking to the sirius tab then channel 100, i know i missed the login page and it seemed to freeze after that, i exited then reopened and went slower, now it works on my sprint touch pro 2, hope it helps, should work for you.
Sirius WM6 to the rescue!
works post-sirius-fiddling and no more captcha!
http://forums.geekstoolbox.com/showthread.php?t=25946
Works great. Hey Now!!! Thanks
I have noticed that some of the channels don't work, and some may be missing, apparently because the channels.txt file (in the player's install folder) has dated info in it. This can be fixed by editing that file in pocket word and saving as plain text, of on a PC with notepad and copying back over the original.
As an example, Playboy radio would not work.
If you log in to the Sirius online with a PC and start a channel in the player, the URL for that channel looks like:
. . . .sirius.com/player/listen/play.action?channelKey=playboyradio&genreKey=sirentertainment&categoryKey=cattalk&stopped=no
The section in the channels.txt for Playboy radio looked like this:
99 | Playboy Radio
playboyradio
playboyradio
cattalk
when it SHOULD have looked like:
99 | Playboy Radio
playboyradio
sirentertainment
cattalk
So you can see how you can repair broken or missing channels by first using the Sirius browser radio to get the keys, then edit the file.

Any way to use Incredible as webcam?

I'm using Ubuntu, but I'm guessing that isn't as much of a limitation as what Android gives us.
Probably the answer is "no" but it never hurts to ask. There doesn't seem to be an option in the PC Connection type that would even allow any software on a computer to access the hardware of the device aside from accessing files.
while i dont know of such an app, i dont think its impossible or even hard to write such an app. there are video recording apps, so all u gotta do is send that data over the usb, maybe using debugging mode.
that being said, i am too overworked to write an app like that and i have a webcam, but its an idea for any budding android developer.
have you tried the app ustream?
The app called QIK is not really a webcam but allows you to stream videos live from your device where you can have anyone you choose watch them online. Search for it in the Market it's free. Just a thought.
found this, but i can't get it to work on my nexus.
http://vikram.eggwall.com/computers/watchtower.html
http://vikram.eggwall.com/computers/watchtower-devel.html
but it is fully open sourced if anyone wanted to dig into it and see what's going on with it.
I'd think it would be pretty awesome if someone got this working.
Ustream.tv has an app to broadcast and another app to watch broadcasted streams. The best part about ustream is that it is also viewable within your Internet browser on incredible. Also for the app that broadcasts it has option to also record what you've broadcasted. I recommend checking it out.

what app would you find useful ?

Hey guys.
I'm now looking for a bachelor thesis and I was thinking about writing an android application.
Preferably one of which aren't millions out there and a more complex one (using GPS and stuff).
So I'm hoping you could help me. Do you have any tips ?
Cool idea! good luck with this.
Unfortunately i can't think of anything my phone can't already do
May be some thing like an android firewall, which pops up when an applications initially try to connect to internet asking if we want to allow or reject the connection and remember the choice.. You know.. Much like an OS firewall. Something like littlesnitch (MacOS)
I dunno if this is possible, but would be great.
How about a GUI for bluetooth..
See what's connected and easily transfer files to another device..
I would double request for interactive firewall
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Interactive firewall, that remembers your settings for each Application based on your GPS co-ordinates & the network you are connected to (Wifi, mobile and the IP range on the Wifi network - or options to that effect ) That's some advanced stuff to do!
Maybe build a complete network tool on top of the firewall? one that does subnet/CIDR calculating, pinging, MTR, tracerouting/pathping, SMTP/POP3 checker etc
I'd use it for sure!
Thanks for the ideas.
The BT GUI looks more interesting to me, but I see there's a bigger demand on the firewall.
Aren't there any similar firewall apps out there ?
I found Droid wall... Anyone tried it yet ?

There are two apps I want that don't exist. One is dead simple - a timed SMS sender. How often have I thought "must text Mum about X" at past her bedtime, then forgot to send it come the morning. It would be well handy to be able to specify a send time for a message.
Other is location-aware to-do/reminder. Most "Remind Me" apps work on times - either set times or countdowns. That's not how I roll. I want reminding when I get somewhere, not at a time.
"Remind me of $message when I get [home|work]"
Where $home = joining wireless network "HomeNet" and $work = joining wireless network "Worknet"
You could also do notifications on leaving those networks - "When I leave work, remind me to pick up milk/eggs"
There are GPS versions of these, but I'm not leaving my GPS on all day just for one thing. Wifi is accurate enough for me (although you could build in GPS as well, for added accuracy if want/needed by the user)
Hand-written notes (a la Staesj) is good too. As is speech-to-text notes.
Those are all good ideas. I'd use all of 'em. Lol
Good luck mate!
johnnytruant - that is a BRILLIANT idea !!
Already contacted my professor.
If he won't agree with it, I think I'll stick with the firewall (if no one has a better idea).

These are pretty much all already covered by Tasker...
Ah. I didn't know about Tasker.
Still, an easy-to-use, single-purpose location-aware reminder/notes app is probably more useful to more people - plenty of non-techie types, who would likely be scared of Tasker - would definitely find such a thing useful.
So I finally got this app as my bc thesis.
Get ready for the best organizer ever
There's gonna be a usual calendar, plus location based reminders, plus friend location based reminders, notes (usual/voice, with/without notification) and alarms (with shake/flip/cover/voice-to-snooze), web-sync, and much more
Personally the main thing I've been dying for is SAMBA shares from my phone, but without having to root. If this was possible (or at least easy to do) I'm sure it would have been done by now, though.
Otherwise I think a facebook video uploader would be nice. I can't share more than 1 at a time with the onboard apps and have never found anything better, so I end up using Qik and sharing them to facebook from there.
Another idea (which has already been done, poorly) is to use your phone as a mouse/keyboard. I am not sure how many apps there are for this, but the last one I used (I forget the name) was pretty terrible. It's handy for HTPCs. The app itself wasn't the big problem, it was the Windows server program. It would take focus randomly, freeze, and there was no good way to hide it other than minimizing it.

Jesus, how many times is this going to be brought up? The function is NOT there, and it was known BEFORE any device came out. Quit the *****ing and get a phone that supports it, or move on.
Anyways, I'd like a good sports app like Sportacular that has notifications when games start, during and after with the scores. Fantasy updates with custom rosters would be great too.
Not sure what the SDK will let you do, but is it possible to develop an app that can be pinned to the start page, that toggles 3g/wifi/bluetooth? I know we can just drop in to the Settings menu, but I would pay for an app that put those three in one easy place.
I would also like an app that rotates, like a slideshow I guess, all sorts of images from the various Xbox games I've been playing across the tile. That would look cool on the start page. Maybe it does a Bing image search to find the images to rotate, etc. I'm not a developer, but it was something I thought of earlier today.

this is comming in dec development almost done..
The direct sync with outlook is not possible with the WP7 SDK. That would have to be incorporated into the Zune sync software. The WP7 is meant to be a cloud device so I don't see this coming anytime soon.
The idea about toggling the radios is also not possible im afraid. The SDK does not give developers any direct access to the hardware like that. Hell, we can't even adjust the volume.

That really blows. Just thinking about what various iPhone and Android apps can do easily, it seems this platform is much more closed than even iPhone's. The key to both Android and iPhones success has been as much the developer community as it has been the solid hardware the apps run on, maybe even more so the developers. The new WP7 hardware seems solid enough so far. If MS doesn't open up the SDK to a greater array of components, this will just continue to lag behind, even fall farther behind.
...Hoping someone can cook up some nice WP7 ROM's

This is supposedly coming in January according to reports this morning. See: http://www.wpcentral.com/rumor-january-firmware-update-wp7-include-custom-ringer-support-more
(Sorry, forgot to multi-quote.)
not sure if you can make do this or not, but I would like to be able to connect to hidden networks. Also be able to use the device as a wifi router.
Could it be made downward compatible? It would be nice to be able to run some of my already-purchased software.
As an alternative, the single-largest bummer of making this switch for me will be loss of the two coolest apps I have EVER had – “Pocket Earth”, and “Pocket World” by Bluepoint Studios. These apps, especially Pocket Earth, were stunning! I don’t know their status, but if you could buy the rights and the code and somehow rewrite them for WP7, I suspect you would do very well.
I need programs which are NOT web-dependent. Dictionaries, translation programs, an atlas, etc. which are device-based. Traveling internationally is where one needs the language converters and I work a lot on the plane. I’d prefer to give up space in the device than to continually pay for international data.
Best of luck,
Dave

A recorder...
There are a few out there, but I need it to either have voice activated start/stop, or stop/start control from my bluetooth. I am a sports photographer, and if I can describe what is on a picture that I take right after I take it, it is much easier to do my captioning when I get home. But I don't have time to take the phone out of my pocket and start/stop after each play.
It seems a lot of the suggestions are things to do with hardware. The only hardware access the SDK gives developers is the GPS, Accelerometer, and the radio. We don't even have direct access to the camera. (When an app takes a picture, it opens the camera app then sends the taken picture back to the app).

1) Something that bypasses Exchange-enforced password entry. Android has it; and frankly, PIN enforcement is a meaningless layer of security that does nothing more than inconvenience the end-user.
2) Something that let's you copy synced Calendar entries and Contacts to the Phone instead of forcing them to exist in the stupid cloud. <--I would pay good money for this. Again, something that Android let's you do that I like.
Edited to Add:
3) An app that keeps the phone on and unlocked. I don't like this forced lock/timeout thing, I'd prefer to have complete control of when it is locked and when it isn't.
1) A Remote Desktop Application compatable with MS's current RDP services
2) Something that periodically rotates the Logon Screen Picture
3) Something that would quickly display Battery Life, Used/Remaining Storage, etc...

VNCViewer and maps

I have been waiting for years for a device with a screen that won't strain my eyes.
The adam was a disappointment with the screen.
So when i heard about the rooted Nook touch, and after using a Kobo for a week to see if ebooks are a 5minute wonder just in case, i decided to get one.
Of the things i'm going to try straight away are VNCViewer and some kind of mapping application. Both of these things give you unique advantages with the nook.
VNCViewer: by connecting to a desktop/laptop with view only you can browse on the laptop but when you get to a page where you need to do a lot of reading you use the Nook. What about doing the same with a mobile phone?
Maps: Every other sat nav/gps is not that great in bright sunlight and uses battery if you want a big display. Already we can link to a phone by wifi via joikuspot wifi tethering for google maps but also offline maps cpuld be useful too. And what about positioning? Well, that should be possible by sharing out the gps from a phone, or as i said before, shafing the display of the phone. While it is a great shame that the Nook doesn't have bluetooth so extGPS is not already useable, perhaps it could be done over wifi. In fact it might even be possible to do something like this by using the SD card slot; this was done to an out of date device i once saw.... Must look it up.
I hope these 2 ideas have got you excited!
I'm not sure how practical a map application would be, due to lack of positioning internal to the device itself, and the screen type not being ideal for such an application. Both problems seem to me to require too much effort to work around.
But the VNCViewer idea is interesting. Perhaps it could be called something simple, like "Read on Nook" (perhaps something more generic if it supports other readers)?
I certainly think it's a clever idea of being able to simply switch devices when reading a document. If implemented well it could be quite useful! It seems like quite a challenge to code, though... good luck
I've managed to get it working.
I used:
Code:
$vncserver :1 #select low quality & pick a password
$vncviewer ViewOnly -shared IP:port
^ both on the host
And Remote VNC Pro on the Nook Touch. AndroidVNC also works but not as well because the display doesn't fill the screen properly.
Of course you have to scroll to view on the small screen, and you are doing the viewing via VNCViewer on the desktop host, which is klunky. What we need is a way to constant screencast by VNC on the host, that would be neater. I'm sure there is a way of doing this! Still, it's usable already as a little satellite screen and keeps the Nook working when it wouldn't normally be used! Is this a world first for browsing wikpedia via eink & firefox in bright sunlight ? I'll have to upload a vid. I can use a laptop outdoors now, albeit with a tiny screen... oh yeah and totally tied to a WiFi spot like joiku/tethering (probably easier than adhoc)
Regards maps, NDrive I can't get working. LocusPro works but for this I think we will need TetherGPS, which I can't get working because I can't get GoogleApps/GMail to install which is what I need for AppsMarket to get that TetherGPS .apk! However, does TetherGPS work over WiFi anyway... or is it just bluetooth?
I can't really get my head round LocusPro too much. I'll have to have a look for apps that cache google maps. Hopefully they won't have the hassles installing like gmail. MapDroyd looks very good.
edit:
For GPS use a MiFi portable access point and https://market.android.com/details?id=com.comptonsoft.tgps_lite&feature=more_from_developer on your Android GPS enabled phone
