Best way to listen to music? - Touch CDMA General

I've got a newbie media-related question, and searches haven't yielded the specific answer that I'm looking for (though maybe I haven't searched the right device forum, yet):
What is the best way to use my new Sprint Touch as an MP3 player? To answer that question I guess I'm really asking the following questions:
What is the best plugin to get a handy player for easy play/pause and prev/next track selection (like the original HTC Touch media hub, or the tab on the 6-tab HTC Home)?
Is there a way to play music without the screen staying turned on? From what I can tell the Windows Media app keeps the screen on as long as it is playing music. I would like the screen to shut off and then spring back to life if tapped/power button pressed/whatever. Hopefully the answer to #1 will support this as well.
I don't want a new HTCHome.dll since I just got my Sprint one patched to point to a different weather server to get local weather.
I also have been reading about the 'Touch Settings' program and am interested in giving that a spin as well, though I can't tell if it will help me other than to make launching the player more handy.
Thanks in advance...

sprint removed the original htc audio manager which is quite good and has a today plugin. you can get the original htc apps from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
I've installed this audio manager and the plugin on my sprint touch and they work great.
For turning off the screen, I usually just let mine turn off on its own (since it actually will when using audio manager). If you want to force the screen off yourself, just grab a freeware app called ScreenToggle and map it to your camera button or today screen.

Yes, that is EXACTLY the info that I was looking for...I just installed both the audio manager and the home plugin and love them both. The home plugin doesn't take up too much screen space, so it will work great for me. The screen doesn't appear to be shutting off while using the plugin, either, so will try ScreenToggle if I can't find another setting/option to have it shut off automatically. THANK YOU retrobits!

You can also map a button from within WMP (such as the center button) to toggle the screen off/on. It is under one of the menu options for settings.

That's cool...works great if I want to use WMP instead of the plugin. Unfortunately, even though it appears that the home plugin is launching and using WMP rather than the audio manager, the button that I associate with the screen off/on toggle doesn't work from the homepage...I've got to switch to WMP for it to work. That may be good enough for me, though...thanks for the tip.

Bluetooth headphones have control buttons, so you dont need onscreen ones, and on my GSM Touch at least, as well as my Kaiser, I can switch of the screen with the power button without interrupting audio playback when using A2DP.

Surur...I just got my Bluetooth headphones today, and when listening to my music off of my Touch with them the music quits if I press the power button. Can you describe further how I can get this to work so that the music continues to play? And of course maybe this is a difference between the GSM Touch and the "Sprint" Touch/Vogue, but hopefully not.

Sorry, I dont know why it works, but it just does. Just tested it again with my Moto S9's, and it works perfectly. When I use the power button the screen goes off, but the music keeps playing. Worked in Audio Manager, WMP and TCMP.
Its probably a simple registry setting which some-one more knowledgeable can tease out.

is it the bluetooth remote buttons (AVRCP) that is the issue? I may just be a remapping of the buttons from your media player.

The remote buttons on my bluetooth headset work great for me...no problems there. The issue is that when I use my Sprint Touch (Vogue) as an mp3 player I want the screen to turn off without the music stopping when pressing the power button so as to conserve battery life.
For now I'm using the WMP feature to toggle the screen on and off as needed.

I have been using TCPMP 0.72RC1 on my Wizard for some time now and this has the option to set a button on your device (whichever one (except for the on/off button)) to toggle the srceen off and on.
be aware though, I use this option to safe battery life. The other buttons still work when the screen is off, so skipping songs etc is still possible without the screen being on.

Thanks for the tip, kato. I've also done the same with with WMP, though when I pause a song via my bluetooth headset the screen turns back on...otherwise it's working pretty well. I'll have to check out TCPMP sometime...

MP3 player new function required

None of the MP3 players I've tried (free or paid for) have the following feature:
When a new track plays, a small pop-up window at the bottom of the screen appears for say 5 seconds, with the track name and a skip button.
I use my PDA for sat nav in the car and this would be useful for it to appear momentarily over the navigation screen.
Can anyone conjour up such a feature on a simple MP3 player - or point me to one that has it?
Thanks.
Have you tried Pocket Player? I believe it does something similiar to that.
I've got PocketPlayer and I've not come across this function. Not that I have actually looked for it as yet . Where can I find it?
Would be a good idea though. When you have your nav on you get a little pop up on the screen telling you what the title of the music track you're listening to.
I'll download it and have a play.
Yeah, a little musical note appears in the taskbar and if you tap it it, it shows what's playing and gives a all the basic functions too (play, pause fff, rwd, and so on)
Why not use Msvc?

Yeah, this is what I found - no good when the sat nav is full screen, as the musical note isn't there - I need it to pop up on every new track, so I can decide to bin it or not.

That's a good one, not played with the voice command option - you think it would work with the background noise of some cheesy MP3 track I never knew I had and want to skip?

[APP][UPDATED]audioswitch

Hello,
I have been working on a new audioswitch app to replace troca2 and audioswitch.
I have started to make a new app called audioswitch v2 but soon ran out of time... and xiexin1008 got the project and had made and new experimental app.
Today, I had some free time, and made other app with a "switchclass" that deal with all the ril stuff(based on my first class that is on the Xiexin project), so others can improve and use it even as a dll in c#(u have to build it as a dll first)
I called it "simple audioswitch".
How it works: run the program and "put it on the background"
volume "up and down" switch the audio.
volume "down and up" close the app.
if an incomming call shows up, the audio will be routed back.
I have tested it only in my p3301. so I do not know if it works or not in other phones.
Once more the license:
It is free code, free binaries, and all work derived from it.
use at your own risk and I am not responsible for nothing...
Support on the forum.
-------------------------------------------------------
about the various methods of switch the audio...
mostly uses drivers messages.
u can find very useful information about it at www.teksoftco.com, even a audio driver wrapper that spy at audio messages.
by this time it is not for me, too busy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
will open sorce of this app so others can inprove it.
Thanks to Xiexin, I will not post his work now, will wait for his email.
Thanks Dan-Marius to all the feedback.
Thanks.
Hop u like. sorry for the messy code(is an one hour work).
@MarceloFB
The ideea of listeninng RIL for incomming calls is a very good one! Congratulation, you did a great job. Yes, a really great one.
The simpleAudioSwitch.cab file is attached.
Guys, it works very fine.
Thank you Marcelo!
I tried this program and I like using hardware keys pattern to change audio. I like the most that I don't have to change the way buttons worked before. this is the best solution I saw till now.
But there's is still a problem. It seems all programs of this sort use same procedure to route audio. But when audio is routed in my phone it seems it doesn't come from internal speaker. Or maybe not exclusively from internal speaker.
Sound still can be heard from external speaker but quieter.
So I can say now that we have good user interface but routing mechanism needs to be improved.
I have HTC Touch Cruise with 3LIT3 FULL ROM

The "routing mechanism" is using RIL lib, by now thre is no other "easy avaliable" way to rout the audio.
Try changing the radio or the entire rom of your phone, I have tested in touch cruise this method and works fine, but with the stock rom.
can you please tell me which ROM, radio and protocol version have you tried it with, so I can try the same and compare with this one I have?

Great app.
Just started using it on my HTC Touch HD with Dutty ROM v3.3. It seems as though Up & Up switches the audio for me (not up and down). Down and Up exits the app.

Also, earphone is silent when the phone is on vibrate (and probably when it's on silent too although I haven't tested it).

Request
Hi,
I still use the old version with mortscript to control the program and I love it .
I have a request for this new version.
1 - Can we decide which key controls the audio switching ? ( Since I have a Fuze and I have a PTT button which I never use )
2 - also is it possible to add the bluetooth handfree to audio switch options as well ? sometime when I'm driving I love to use my voip or skype over 3G using my bluetooth handfree .
Sincerely
Thunder
Will there be a new version, which is working with Skype 3.0 mobile beta?
I am having problems trying to get this to work with my Benq e72 phone running Windows Mobile 5.
I am trying to use it at the same time as Ageet Agephone mobile 2.76.
http://www.ageet.com/us/products-agephone-mobile.htm
It seems like Agephone mobile 2.76 takes over controls of the volume up and down button. When I push the up and down volume control button it just wants to change the volume and not switch the speaker/earpiece - I can't get Audioswitch to work. [Maybe I am not doing something simple properly?] But at least it installs correctly.
So then I try AudioRoute http://www.teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1995
Unfortunately this won't install properly - it says something like:

I have tried modifying the cab file like it says here on the teksoftco forum:
I'm also a creator of WinMo apps (www.saman-cz.com), so I know that recreating cab is just a piece of cake.
But OK. To modify cabinet get WinCE Cab Manager (trial is good enough), open cab, go menu Cabinet->Properties, Operating System tab, set minimum version to 5.0 and maximum to 9.9, hit Ok, then File->Save
Just another result from my tests:
After restarting phone I tried rerouting once more and the microphone worked well. Weird but nice

Pandora for the Touch Pro 2?

Is there a way to get pandora on the touch pro2?
Maybe this will work
Try this: the file is attached.
Let me know if it works.
I don't have a TP2 yet (but I will on Aug 12th)
Edit: Scroll down and look at my other post for other Pandora .cabs if the one in this post doesn't work.
Let me know your results, thanks.
What is this peeps?
Never heard of it.
Its an internet radio app, that lets the user type in artists that they like and then the app streams the songs to them based on their selection.

Hmm, that is no good.
I have an Excalibur right now and it is a non-touchscreen phone that works with this app. Have you tried using the directional pad in the TP2's keyboard for navigation?
I have contacted Pandora before and they said that they are working on a .cab that will work on any Windows Phone. I'm guessing that it will be released once the Marketplace is open. Until then, maybe one of these will work with the TP2 (attached)

Yes, the sound quality is 64 kbps aac I think so I would imagine that it doesn't sound that good. At least this is a working solution. In the furture when the official pandora.cab comes out I belive that it will be 64kbps aac+ which equates to 128kbps aac.

You have to find the Pandora exe in Program Files hold your finger down on it till a menu appears and hit copy. Then Navigate to My Device-->Windows-->Start Menu-->Programs in this folder scroll to the botton and right below the last file hold your finger down in the empty spot so no file is selected and when the menu pops up select paste shortcut.

When you say disable locking app, it will work. Can you elaborate a little more. I don't have any other lock app except the default WM lock which I dont use at all and Pandora will still stop when device sleeps.
I remember there was a reg edit for this before I will try to find it and try it out and reply with findings.
Also, is the cab link you posted the same as what was posted before?
Since they both have the same name I am assuming its the same one.

Changing Default Action Headset Redialer.exe

Hi Guys,
In an effort to remap and not finding any software I wrote over my redial.exe program with a basic game and it worked. Double clicking the headset now opens that game. I'm not sure how this will affect other functions of the phone though, what else uses redialer.exe?
Secondly how could I make it so that whatever I put in the windows folder as this "redialer.exe" activates a specific action? In my case, I would like this to mute/unmute the call I am in.
Thirdly, any alternative suggestions to doing this, or to even editing the single click function on the headset? Thank you.
Nila
Nila, there are several apps out there that do something similar to this. Maybe you should look in to what they are doing and see if you can't modify it to your liking.
I went through this when my headset started randomly redialing people. I use audio manager headset tool and it will now play/pause on long press and ff on quick double press. Hope this helps!

Besides the various programs I found that seemed to only deal with audio playback, this is the most promising program I found that would let me edit which programs are opened with the headset button functions.

The main thing I'm having trouble locating is how to make a shortcut to the in-call mute function. Does that require a mortscript? Thanks.

Music tab control on lock screen

Title says it all...
What I'm looking for is to be able to control my music while the phone is locked. I am running the last and greatest version of enrgy's rom series. The perticular build that i am using doesnt let me control the volume while the screen is off. But does let me control it when the phone is locked... wierd... but i am loving the rom (if you havnt i recomend you give it a whirl) I have search but the only thing i found is to use s2p with s2u2. I much rather use the windows lock screen, enrgy add a feture to let you use 1 out of 3 lock screens hd mini which im curently using 6.5 and the default lock screen. For some reason i cant not stand s2p (personal preff no offense to the developer) thanks to any1 in advance that can help me with this. I hope this was posted in the right section... if not can some point me to the right place.
you have no idea how bad i want that, it would be so useful! when im at the gym i constantly have to unlock my phone and enter my password because my screen locks to change my music. a look screen with music control would be unreal
This would be great to have. If I remember correctly, before I flashed my rom, my stock Tilt 2 rom used to be able to do it. Hold down the volume buttons to change songs and press down buttons for volume.

The whole point of a lock screen is to lock down the device. You can change the device to NOT lock the buttons when the device is locked, and there are NRG settings that will affect the device when locked. But basically I think you would have to map some of the hardware keys - I believe that ATT has a PTT button, for example - to do a particular function.
Well hopefully this will help.
I picked up a Motorola Bluetooth Headphones in January and using the stock rom I was able to lock the phone and use the headphone controls to change the music and volume with no problems. I can also pause the songs with the controls and come back to the music anytime.
I just moved to the EnergyRom and it still works. I'm only having one issue all the sound comes through the headphones now.
I will say there is one other issue, minor for me, every once and a while the sound will change to a mono'ish, tinny sound, then come right back to stereo. When you hear people complaining about the Bluetooth Headphones this is what they are talking about. It really has never bugged me that much, but it might bother you.
I picked up this model - Motorola HT820. Just in case you are wondering.

I don't quite remember if I installed a cab for it or if the stock rom allowed it, I wish i could remember because I miss it a lot. The only thing I can do now, when the phone is locked, is control the volume. At least it's something...
in the new version of CHT this is comming
Hmm, CHT is not as stable on AthineOS as I hoped. That ROM is nearly clean and CHT brings some bugs with it, so I'd like to find the fix separated from CHT...
Does anyone of you also have a problem with the player when you turn of the screen? (press power button) On my TP2 it doesn't play the next song, but starts to create a cracking noise, almost silent. Also when I turn off the screen the music goes silent halfway the first song I play. I have to skip a bit back/forward and it'll keep playing like it should after that. I know there's some fix like: "Keep music playing while screen is off", but that just won't fix it. But just locking my phone through the Start Menu and letting the screen go black works :S.
Dude, you should try S2U2, is a lock app that looks like the iPhone... But the better thing is that the developer, also make S2P a player that can be used while the lock (S2U2) is active...
I would give Tarkim's keyboard controller a try.

Hi Tiemen_S,
which rom do you have, windows build, manila version and so on. Because i don't have problems like that.
These are not problems with CHT, that's your rom so as said in the threads. I have tested around 20 roms and the most bring up problems. The only one that was running was the latest original dutch rom for me.
So do your tests once again please, with an original one before you say it is CHT. Because that is not the case.

I don't blame CHT or anything, I'm just very satisfied with AthineOS without it. It's like the cleanest ROM out there, with a not too plastic/shiny/glossy theme. I don't know exactly where CHT can't combine with AthineOS (code-wise), but after the installation some bugs appeared. And after reflashing without CHT everything was fine again. It were no SOD's, but glitches and switches.
And of course it's superb the fix will be integrated in CHT, but not everyone uses it and a seperate fix would be a better solution for them!
