Larger buttons on dialer needed

I'm wondering if there is a way, maybe through a third party app, to make the buttons on the phone dialer larger. It's kind of a pain to dial while driving and I don't have large hands either.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Don´t ask, try yourself! :roll: WM2005 is on the Vario/Wizard!

Im gettin tired of buying apps. Is there a freeweeeh app out like this one?

Yes, but ME software PhonePlus III does not work in landscape mode. The bottom buttons get hidden in landscape. Works though in Portrait. I therefore object to the developers claim that this is fully WM5 compatible. It is only partially compatible.

You can create your own buttons and experience with the size.
All you need you'll find it in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skins and in Windows directory.
Only thing to remember: you can't override the BMPs in windows directory so create your own directory and save your modified BMPs there. Then change the path to this files in registry and it will work.
Only thing i could change so far is the colour of the Indellidialer because i can't find a link to this BMPs and files in windows directory are locked.
I changed my colors last night in a quick way for testing and now my own skin looks like this:

In windows directory there are several bmp files. I copied them to my desktopn and had a look with explorer preview on them. I identified the bmp files needed by dialer skin and changed the color.
Created a new directory on my mda vario (i.e. PhoneSkin) and copied the modified files back. YOu can't override the installed files in windows directory because they are flagged as ROM files and can't be deleted.
In the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin there are two entries (DIALER and PROGRESS) and each of them with landscape and portrait.
There you can find entries for the several buttons with a link to the files. Cahnge the link to your modified files and after a softreset you'll have your own colours.

Sorry but I can't find that registry entry in my Qtek.
I only have 2 entrys : Enebled and ext.
I already used photoshop to enlarge the buttons with 10% but I can't get them into smartdailer now.
I would also be happy with the layout that shows up for the passwordentry at startup. that one is verry clear and big.

there claim of compatability is fake....its a cool software but momen i dial a number i am back to the old dialer skin...so i have to keep shuffling which is a caos...besides i had aalocated a hardware button call to phonepluand tok ages to just opn the software....
when dialing is on t9 then why not sm...i liked the sms feature but when it came to using it...it was a big problem without t9 featre...i iked the softarefor big buttons but deleted it now...not worth....till they fix bugs...ucan still gie it try

Once all of the image files are copied over to your pc create a .ZIP file of this directory.
If you have WinZip installed, right-click on the folder, left-click "Add to Original Phone Dialer Images.zip"
NOTE: this zip file is your backup of the original image files!!!
Once you have your ZIP file nicely tucked away where you won't lose it proceed to the fun part!

Open up your favorite image editor (I used Adobe Photoshop CS2)
Load each image 1 at a time into your image editor.
Be sure to take note of the size of the button inside the image, my advice is to match it quite closely.
After you edit an image YOU MUST save it as the same file type and same name.
Once you have modified all of your images to your liking close your image editor.

Ok this part will require a 3rd party application, what you will need to do is kill the "cprog.exe" process. This is the Phone process.
To accomplish this I used the program "Pocket Controller-Professional 5.04", which you can download for free (demo version):

Once installed, execute the program, connect to your phone.
Once connected, at the top of the Pocket Controller interface there is a horizontal "Main Menu".
On the Main Menu click "Tools", then within the Tools menu click "Task Manager"
Once Task Manager is open highlight "cprog.exe" and click the "Kill Process" button.

Locate the folder with all of your modified saved images & copy them back into the Windows directory on your phone, when prompted, choose "Yes to All" to overwrite the originals.

Once all the files are copied back over to your phone make a phone call & look at the nice pretty colors. Call your best friend and tell them how some wild and crazy guy just hooked you up and taught you how to tweak your phone!

(and for those paying attention, included in my list of files are more than just the dial pad files.... )

You can download ANY version you like BUT:
a. put ALL the ICON files in \Storage Card\Program Files\Manila WP Icons\
b. put the THEME files in \Program Files\MarsWare\WeatherPanel\Themes\Manila
c. a quick note: if you want the 5 day forcast setup i have, rename the Manila.wpl to something else
and then change the file name: Manila-TL-5day.wpl to Manila.wpl
d. i also included a reg file in your \storage card\my documents folder.
incase your weatherpanel setup gets screwed and you start seeing small icons just run the reg file.
8. INSTALL nir36 ULDSetup.cab AND RESET YOUR DEVICE!

9. you will see the WRONG rlToday skin so click and hold on the rlToday skin and choose the Diamond skin
10. In the contacts page you will see 12 contact pictures. you need to switch them with 54x72 icons of your contacts
you should use Any2Icon (http://www.aha-soft.com/anytoicon/any2icon.exe) to convert pictures to .ico files to put in
\Storage Card\My Documents\Icons\ContactIcons. Make SURE these icons are named exactly as the icons in this dir.
11. now i need feedback on this.
i put some strings in the registry which are supposed to set Cal+ to show only 1 appointment for the Home Page.
if it works, you won't have to touch it. if not..click and hold the Calendar+ today item in the Home page and choose
to view 1 APPOINTMENT. please let me know if the reg file works automatically so i can delete this section.

if you click the left side of the clock in the homepage you will get the clock settings
if you click the right side of the clock you will get ThumbCal.
if you click the date in the homepage you will create a new task in thumbcal
if you click the globe in the connectionspage you will get Opera
4. now LAST AND NOT LEAST, go to Start/Settings/Today and choose ClassicBlackDiamond.tsk as your today theme.
5. REMEMBER that you will have to modify the icons and the applications according to your preference. let me know if you need help.
(After everything's done, you will have to edit (either through the UltimateLaunch.ini file or straight through
ultimatelaunch's setup) the phone numbers for the Contacts' Page to fit the numbers you desire).

vjtoggletoday lets you hide your softkeys.. your systray and your taskbar.
you HAVE to use it for this skin.. otherwise you won't have enough room for everything.
(you can obviously not use it and change my ini file as well).
to use the registry file you need:

what you need to do is:
- install o2plus2.3.cab
- put the ini file in your UL directory
- extract the Diamond-NoSMSorMC.rar file into your rlToday directory and in the rlToday options choose the "daemon" skin. (there is a font ttf file included in this rar file, you're invited to put it in your /windows/fonts dir).

EDIT: in the original version of the Diamond Clock for rlToday (which is included with the rar in this post), nothing happens when you click the clock. i edited the XML file which is supposed to go to the /program files/rltoday/daemon folder so that when you click it you can change clock settings. this is important for any of you who uses the alarms. (i use it on a daily basis).
what you need to do is switch the skin.xml file in the /program files/rltoday/daemon folder with the xml provided.

A few changes
- Moved HomePage o2plus and SMS/MMS today plugins to the middle of the screen.
- Changed the rlToday XML to open Clock when left side of clock is clicked and to open Tasks (for those of you who use it a lot like me), when the right side of the clock is clicked.
- Changed the WeatherPanel WPD WPX WPL files to show the fonts in a nicer more centered way and not to be thrown out of the screen.
- Changed one of the icons in the programs section to the calculator instead of thumbcal (which is run by an upwards gesture on the calendar screen).
- Added a margin to the Internet screen so that the icons are detached from the upper part of the screen (easily clicked).

2 more things.
1. I use HButton to QUIT applications, run iGO8, Comm Manager, iContact, Disable/Enable Bluetooth. this is why they don't appear in the skin.. they're all button controlled. if you need help with HButton let me know.
2. I'm gonna keep all previous posts with the previous files set as they are so that if anyone prefers previous settings he/she can enjoy them.

Enhancments:
i took James Kuang's (thank you james) rlToday skin (found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409370) and altered it a bit.. to look.. different (changed the XML to show different fonts, edited the clock background in photoshop to be white... yada yada)
a little lighter and fitting with my UltimateLaunch settings.
What you need to do to get that is download the rar file given here, install VJphoneshortcuts from the rar file, and put the Diamond folder in your rlToday folder in program files. then, choose Diamond as the skin in rlToday instead of the old one. (install VJphoneshortcuts on your DEVICE).
whoever took my last advice and installed o2plus - uninstall it now. i included the same setup within the rlToday skin.
also, when clicking the date on the upper right side, it brings up Thumbcal.. and the other settings are still on. clicking the left side of the clock brings up the clock setting and the right side brings up Tasks.
when clicking the number of sms's or the pic next to it, it loads "Messaging"
when clicking the number of missed calls or the pic next to it, it loads "Call History" (you must install VJphoneshortcuts for the missed calls shortcut to work).

This is my current setup (without the Contacts Page .. it is still the same and is shows on the first page of this thread):
Changes:
- removed tray so that there's more room
- HomePage: Brought back the Next Appointment Bar in rlToday skin
- HomePage: clicking on the right side of the clock brings up ThumbCal Tasks
- HomePage: clicking on the date brings up Thumbcal New Task
- Clicking on the Next Appointment bar brings up Thumbcal Today
- Added margins to some of the tabs
- Programs Page: S2P icon replaced with RegEdit since S2P runs using upwards gesture in HomePage
- Calendar+ Page: Upwards gesture brings up Thumbcal 1.0.6 Monthly/Weekly view
- Internet Page: 2 New icons - Wifi Available Networks and Bluetooth Settings. (NOTICE bluetooth button in homepage is for moBlue2.1 while in Internet Page it's for Bluetooth Settings)

I must remind you again that not all applications are included in this setup. for instance, i run iGO8, iContact, Enable/Disable Bluetooth/Wifi and Quit using HButton (it is included in the first page of this thread as part of the main setup).

Soft keys

I am trying to get this to work on my Polaris and am installing your setup a bit at a time. One question though is I have 2 soft keys at the bottom of my today screen. This causes a vertical scroll bar to appear on the right of the screen and ruins the overall effect.
Is there a particular part of your installation that removes these soft keys? I have previously tried the program dciNoBar which is supposed to do this, but it does not function correctly with my ROM.
Do you have any suggestions?

putting the file vjtoggletodayalphaII in your startup menu and applying the supplied registry file for it will remove the softkeys.

Does not work on the newest builds cant get the softkeys hidden.
EDIT:: after replacing some system files got it working really nice ground work got some more editing to do but major props nir would u mind if I used it in a couple roms?

Am interested to know what you had to do to get it to work?
I have it working after a fashion, but there is a wasted black bar of space that I can't seem to use above and below what ever is on the Today page. The softkeys have gone though

Check registry HKCU\MUI\Curlang - if value is 1033 (decimal), most likely the date format will be american format (mmm dd, yy). Changing registry <SSdte> at this state will not change the date format at Home Tab.​
How to change ?
Go to registry HKCU\MUI\Curlang - change value 1033 to 409 (decimal) - Save - Soft Reset >>> date on Home Tab will change to format dd/mm/yy (depending on what's at <SSDte>).
Now, if you want to change to other formats, go to HKLM\nls\overrides\SSDte and put whatever format you wish.
e.g. ddd dd/MM/yy will return a date Thu 29/01/09. Note: doing this will also change date format at other tabs like emails, messages, file folders, etc.

Customise The Operator / Service Provider Name
Three registries are involved :
1) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule
2) HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
3) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\LongNamePrefix - (optional)
A) To show customised operator name (other than the default operator)
Edit HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule = 0 (DWORD decimal) (default = 9 or others)
And then at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
Look for a 5 digit code "MCCNC", where MCC is 3-digit country code, and NC is 2-digit network operator's code. for example:
50219 - Malaysia Celcom GSM 900/1800
23415 - Vodafone UK
20801 - France Orange
For country and network codes (MCCNC), go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code#U
If your code is already listed, then edit/change the contents (text) to anything you want to be displayed.
If not, then add the 5-digit code and the text (name) to be displayed. SOFT RESET.
B) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\LongNamePrefix
This registry is for 3G network (if you have). Change this text string to whatever you want to be displayed. SOFT RESET.
If there is no 3G network or you're not on 3G, this will not be displayed.
or set HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\Enable3GLongNamePrefix to 0 to hide the 3G text.
C) To show operator name based on the SIM card used (default operator), set HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=1 (DWORD decimal)
Note: You can hide operator name using Manila2D Customiser, but when you use the phone dialer function, the operator name will appear at the top left hand corner. By using steps A and B above what you customise will be diaplayed (see picture)

Lock Phone Using SoftKey

Instead of locking your phone using the default "Long press right (red) button", you can assign a Softkey to do it.
Method 1
If you have Manila 2D Customiser, go to "SoftKey" tab and insert in SoftKey Name: "Your Own Text" and SoftKey Command: \windows\EndKey.exe
Method 2 - Registry Edit
Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\manila2D\Home\

Others may have their preferences .... This is just to share how I do it.
By default, making a call is via Phone Pad or People Tab or Call History. Making SMS is via the Mesage Tab. Another way is by using a Contact application (my choice is iContact Burt Edition) where you can both make a call and SMS. Assign it to a softkey (default Phone softkey is redundant). I customise like this ...

With this you can tap Contact to invoke your contact application and make calls or send SMS, edit or manage contact from there. Other contact apps may vary in functions. If you're happy with the default Windows Contact program, you can also assign it there (save one tap from Start)
How to Customise ?
Method 1

If you frequently use wi-fi and need for easy wi-fi connection, I suggest this method (instead of the default method i.e. slide to Settings Tab - Communications - Wi-Fi (requires 3 steps)
Use a simple application - I recommend AKToggleWifi - download here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/get-aktogglewifi.html There may be other apps that you prefer.
1) Method 1 - Fastest Way - Just one tap.

First of all, there are many problems and solution provided if you follow the M2DC thread. Anyway, I'll share my experience with M2DC ...
So far I have no problem with M2DC. I changed my M2D in many ways many times. Usually it takes about 5-10 secs to take effect, no need to soft reset. It will revert to M2D in 5-10 secs after you tap "Apply".
However, if it takes abnormally long time ( > 2 mins) just push the softreset button (inside back cover), while the wait cursor is still turning, and it should take effect. I suggest that you customise one item at a time.

Diamond is using TF3D while Jade is on TF2D. I doubt that it will work on Jade, even if it will, it could cause some nitty errors.

Can't rename xml file from file explorer

I changed the date format of my jade following method number 8 on your post. It is okay and now there is the Day of the week before the date and year.
However, I cannot change this(attached) xml file because when i try to select it, the "rename" is not clickable on the menu. Is there any other way to rename it? I can't add cities to the weather menu as a result. Thanks in advance

Hey everyone...
I looked around for at least an hour and cant find anything to do what I want. I have the HTC Fuze and want to change some of the icons for the programs installed.
Is there a way to actually change the icons for a specific program in windows mobile 6.1 or is there a program that will make it idiot proof?

Hello, i have problem regarding this topic... i have Sony Ericsson Xperia X1i with original ROM (WM 6.1) I have tried many things and none worked... all i need is to know a way to change icons on /Storage Card/ folder, generic folders icon (all folders that does not contain icon.lnk) link to File Explorer, Programs, Settings (names might vary, as i am not using english version of WM, also sorry my poor english )

Try jwmd icon changer, it's free and it works great for me. It allows you to change most icons, including folders, prgrams and I believe settings.

There seems to be two completely different ways of changing and assigning icons to shortcuts, at least in WM 6.5. These apps each only seem to deal with one of the ways, it might be nice if they could do both.
The way SK Tools Shortcut Manager works (which could also be done manually) is by adding to the end of the program .lnk file in the Start Menu, starting with a question mark, then the name of the .dll file the desired icon is in, and the number of the icon.
CSMI and JWMD Icon Changer (I like CSMI a little better, but they have the same result), don't deal with DLLs at all. You have to have .png or .jpg individual icon files, many of which you can download in collections here on XDA. These icons are not specified in the shortcut itself, but in the registry.
Could someone explain--why are there these two totally different ways of assigning icons to program shortcuts? For what purposes might one be better than the other?
If any of the developers of the icon changer apps are reading, why not include both methods in your program?

I have another question about icons for .lnk files. Usually, when one creates a .lnk file to a particular document, the icon that displays for that .lnk is the one for the default program that opens that type of document. That makes sense, and that has usually been my experience.
However, I created a .lnk shortcut to a particular Microsoft Reader document, a .lit file. I thought the icon displayed for this shortcut, would be the same as for Microsoft Reader. But instead, I got the blank Windows no-icon icon. Why?

Many people say that there is too much to install and too many resets to do and don't want to take the risk of installing and blah.
So igrabbed all the m2d cab files programs and created one big cab file out of all combined cabs.
The cab will give you the Manila 2D engine, Today Screen Tab, Contacts Tab, SMS Tab, Email Tab, Htc Album, Weather Tab, Maps Tab, Programs Tab and a default blue layout that works.
READ:
This is NATIVELY SET FOR RealVGA AT 96DpI. READ BELOW TO USE FOR NATIVE RESOLUTION WITHOUT REAL VGA.
Instructions-
Install the Manila 320Square cab file (from gigasize)
Install 14.2D Maila Engine because it is the latest engine (REQUIRED)

KNOWN ISSUES FOLKS:
Dialing directly from the homescreen does not work when you install this, but that can be thwarted by just pressing the green talk button and typing from there.
Double clicking the red button when in a different program while bring you back to the homescreen but will not lock the phone, instead you now have to hold the red button for a few secs (like two) but this can be done from anywhere.

Open this zip with the Transformers Theme and then open the Projecttransformers.m2dc file with M2DC and then this is crucial IF YOU ARE NOT USING RealVGA.
DOWNLOAD THE HTC HOME SETTINGS FROM THE ORIGINAL POST and copy to your windows driectory.
This theme was originally for use with RealVGA so the only thing that will be messed up no matter what is the FlipClock which you would have to delete unless you would want a messedd up flip clock .
The only thing you have to do to delete the flip clock (if you are not using realvga) is
-Unzip this folder and copy to your windows directory and then it will say replace? click yes to all or whatever and then dont quit the windows directory! reselect the files you just posted there and delete them this will only affect the flipclock so no worries.

To install just download the zip file, open M2DC, point ""add theme"" to wherever you saved the zip file and then apply theme.
This zip file does not have any HTC Home Settings included so it will work with RealVGA because it will not change your RealVGA HTC Home Settings and should work.

Ive followed as many steps as I could (which, in my opinion are very sloppy), and The 'taskbar' fits the screen, but M2D is still not the correct resolution. How is this resolved? Things are all truncated and messy looking...

Are you sure the app is working fullscreen? I never found a place into the .exe where to hexedit the picture dimensions so to fit a 320x320 screen. I only see a part of my screen used by the Album app (when you really open a picture: initial thumbnails are ok).

To Marcox912, it depends what tab your trying to use. What tab isn't appearing for you?
And to Topogigi, yes, the htc camera album isnt all fullscreen, only when you pick a picture it is fullscreen.
And to acidhax, are you sure you don't have realvga installed? and if not then download the htc home settings zip file and paste it into windows directory.

I installed the Manilla 2D and I love it thank you very much. However, I am having a little trouble with a couple things. First, on the weather tab it won't let me add a city because the words are all jumbled over the link. Second, on the mail tab part of the mail message is outside the envelope. Is this because I don't use the REAL VGA? Thanks for all the support.

Problem report!
it doesn't work on my pro, right side screen could not be fully covered when switching the navigation bar.

I came across what appears to be a newer version of the 2D Manila Engine - Manila 2D Engine 0.10 Beta.cab. Can this be used instead of the one posted here?

I had the same problem with the right side of the screen "sticking" when switching to a different tab. I copied the HTCHomeSettings.xml file to my window directory and voila all fixed. I know it says to only use this file if you are using 128 dpi but it worked for me at 96 dpi.
The clock was a bit messed up but by going into M2DC on the Home XML tab and unchecking the "enable analog clock" and "enable digital clock" clicking apply and then going back and reenabling them it worked fine.

Download the file in step 7 from the link above on your PC and extract it. Then copy the HTCHomeSettings.xml file to the Windows directory on your PPC - you may need to use RescoExplorer since you will need to overwrite the file already there.

Well, I am running into same problem. I am very green at this and gave it alot of thought to even install this because of the known issues of installing but I jumped in with both feet and am trying to give it a shot. I am having trouble with the .xml settings. I think I have installed everything, but adding the settings file to the phone has been not too easy for me. I have downloaded and opened up the settings file on my pc but are you suppose to to copy that whole long file and install it to the windows folder on the phone? I have a windows folder I can access from the phone but it doesn't show up when exploring the phone files from activesync so I am not sure what to do here.
It would be alot easier if the "windows folder" would show up on my pc while using activesync to explore files and folders on the phone.

If you want to see ALL of the folders on your PPC through Windows Explorer on your PC you need to go into folder options in windows explorer and go to the VIEW tab and click the button next to show hidden files and uncheck the box that says Hide System Files. I don't believe that you can copy this file to Windows on your PPC this way though. I think you need to copy it to your PPC (storage card) first. Then on your PPC with Resco Explorer find the file and click and hold on the file. A submenu will pop up, choose MOVE and then choose the Windows folder. If it ask you to overwrite, choose yes.

Using SecondToday with Manila 2D
For anyone interested, I was able to set up SecondToday with TouchFlo 2D. I have it set up so TouchFlo is the default screen but by clicking by left softkey labeled Today I can switch to my original today screen that uses SPB PocketPlus with Weatherpanel on the home screen. If I want to go back to TouchFlo I click on my left softkey labeled Manila 2D. This gives me the benefits of TouchFlo but still gives me access to PocketPlus and Weatherpanel. I am then also to still utilize all of my previous Today plugins. See attached screenshots.

a few problems. on the peoples tab i am unable to add any new contacts. on the internet tab the youtube app doesn't launch. on the weather tab i an unable to add any city. i also cannot add any programs on the program launcher.

What ROM are you using? The Cfay WM 6.5 rom?
Windows Mobile 6.5 and manila 2d don't work together. These problems your describing sound very specific to windows mobile to 6.5.
anyways, if your using 6.1, then go to treocentral.com and go to the treo pro forum there and there is a very updated manila 2d in one cab thread there that i made.

Hi Everyone,
I'm a recent owner of the Treo Pro and I absolutely love it. I love the fact that I've been able to download and use TouchFlo 2D.
The issue I'm having is, I am only able to use 2 themes. The default and 1 other theme that I downloaded. When I attempt to use any other themes, I run into the same problem. 1/4 of my screen on the right side is stuck. I've searched several forums and the answer that I've found has been to replace the HTCHomeSetting XML....I've done this several times and this has not fixed the problem. I was wondering if there is another solution out there that I have yet to try. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Everything seems to be working... but at weather tab, it is blank, to option to add city, no nothing, just blank.
