Future HTC Phones - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi everyone,
I've had Orange M3100 (Hermes) phone for about a year now and loved it to bits (helped by the fact this site is a god send for customising!). However - my contract is coming to an end and I'm considering upgrading. It seems the only upgrade route I can really see is to a Kaiser. Thats not so much as an upgrade as just the same phone with a few new features. I've already upgraded my M3100 to WM6, I'm not that bothered in GPS that the Kaiser has, and the spec of the Kaiser is almost indentical to the Hermes.
So my question is - is there anything else in the pipeline from HTC that would be worth waiting for. I'd rather wait 3 or 4 months for a newer phone to come out if there was one available.
Anyone any idea....?

good question, im in pretty much the same preticament. only thing ive found really is the newer version of the touch, with the faster cpu +wifi etc, or maybe the touch cruise, but neither have hardware keyboard. not sure if i could cope without my keyboard

You could take a look at http://www.pdadb.net/ for some info on what's coming soon.

The Cruise looks nice, kinda like a keyboardless kaiser

Yeah - my partner has just got a HTC Touch and it looks nice but I couldn't do without the keyb. That counts out the Touch Cruise as well.
Guess I'll hold onto my M3100 and see what turns up next year

You need to work out what you want on your new device? I have considered the Polaris as the keyboard on the Kaiser looks, um, fragile...
Good Luck

Competition for the Kaiser?

OK, it's not strictly Hermes related and so shouldn't necessarily be in this forum, but was the closest I could think of
Like many here I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Kaiser to replace my aging but trusty Hermes. It seems to fit the bill perfectly but that could be because it's the only device that has everything I want. Or is it? Are there other devices on the way that I don't know about with the following?
GPS
3G
Wifi
qwerty keyboard
wm6
Lee.
Scratch WM6 from the list then Nokia's E90 has the rest and some more!

Yes, but the HTC Haiser (HTC P4550) don't have infra-red connection. It is its only "defect".

Its about time they kill the IR... it doesnt have much use these days anyway, especially since HTC havent made them very powerful lately... but thats my opinion
google for the Imate ultimate 7150. No GPS, but the 3.5" VGA screen & 18mm thickness might make up for that.
I looked at the Ultimate 7150 but decided that it's too wide for me - I wanted something smaller than my old Motorola A925 in every dimension!
A colleague at work is deciding between the Ultimate 8150 and Kaiser - The Kaiser won out today and now he's just waiting for it to become available.
It was the keyboard that swayed him in the end.
Cheers, Oggy.

Who will replace TOUCH DUAL by DIAMOND

I think all of you have seen the specs of the HTC DIAMOND
Who is going to get the HTC DIAMOND? I'm not going to waist my time waiting for members who have the courage to keep trying making the wifi and gps working. I have to felicitate their efforts but think i'm about to sell my dual to get HTC DIAMOND or HTC TITANIUM(Diamond with 20 keys...not a lot info for the moment)
ps: please replace "by" by "buy" in the poll options
i'd go for a TITANIUM whenever i feel like it
but i do like my sirf iii solar bluetooth gps device and dont miss wifi as i have unlimited web bolt on, BUT, speedy graphics will probably push me over to the diamond side !
I buy via work a HTC Daimond, if its released. We use HTC Units ... most are HTC VOX and Niki.
i'll be keeping my touch dual for sure.
i agree that the diamond is awesome in terms of functionality but why on earth release a pocket pc phone with no SD card ????
there is no way I'm buying this
the only thing that's keeping me from being completely sure that i will replace my touch dual with the diamond is the lack of a 16key hardware keyboard which i have right now.
although if it's true what they say about the HTC Titanium which is supposedly the Diamond with a HW keyboard then that's it, done deal for me.
I hear that HTC is going to provide the drivers for the Kaiser, if that's the case, the drivers for our Touch Duals will soon follow. SO no reason to rush getting the Diamond yet for me. I'll give it a few more months.
I do have a question .... Why are they putting such low mAh batteries in highend devices now-a-days?
The Diamond has 900mah or something like that... It's 3.5g with the highest HSPDA available right now, right? So ... that's like 1 hour on 3g? lol. It's processor is really fast, and that'll eat up the battery. It's graphics are really good, too (from the videos i've seen)... So.... Sedio Ext. batteries anyone?
what i find odd about new htc products in general is that they always have something missing.
for diamond that would be - sd storage + quad band + keyboard
really very frustrating.
I agree with boboduck. If they release a diamond with a keyboard and sd-storage I'll consider buying one. Until then I'll keep my Niki.
The diamond is aimed at a different market than all other HTC phones released to date, its more of a phone to pose with than get out of your pocket at a works meeting. 4GB is plenty of storage for most users and the lack of a keyboard isn't a problem. I don't see people with the iPhone or LG Prada refusing to buy them until they come with a keyboard.
I am buying one because they are aesthetically and technically brilliant, I'm keeping my dual primarily as my day to day phone and my diamond is going to be my going out phone that my friends and other people see me with.
By the way I've pre-ordered mine off Play.com for £429 with free delivery, cheapest Ive seen so far and they are due in stock on the 19th of this month!

It's a marketing strategy. You do not put every feature in one device, because if you do, you have no reason to sell other devices.

As done by most other manufacturers too, Nokia used to never release a complete phone, although you could argue that the N95 8Gb has changed that. Sony Ericsson also release their phones in either the Cybershot camp or the Walkman Camp, but not both.
I do hope someone can cook the touchflo 3D for niki
We will have to wait for these anticipated 3d drivers to come about before manilla is usable on the niki i reckon, the diamond looks to stutter a bit with it and that has got the 3d drivers running!
I'm not holding out much hope really for it running well and i reckon it could be a memory hogging monster, HTC haven't put 192 meg of ram on the diamond for no reason....
i totally agree about the marketing strategy. this is the reason why dual has no wi-fi.
Because if it did, then nobody would buy the elf or vogue.
if htc do however release an all-in-one phone, i think it'll hurt our pockets
i just hope someone can try to put the touch flo 3D in niki
I just pre-ordered from play.com
I havent had it agreed by my wife yet.... eek!
Will keep touch dual. I'am student and have no money for the diamond!
So far I can't find a soft keyboard that is comparable to the hardware keypad for Chinese input. so better stay with Nike.
I voted for replacing my nike with a diamond, but the absence of sd breaks it for me.
A PDA without external storage is ridiculous.

Is Hermes better than Artemis (XDA Orbit)?

I've had my Hermes for about 5 months now, and I do love it but it seems XDA Orbits (HTC Artemis) have come down in price so I'm tempted to sell the Hermes and get one of these instead.
Are they better than the Hermes? I know they don't have QWERTY, but they do have a GPS which is a handy gadget to have I guess. Do they offer anything else the Hermes doesn't have?
Any replies would be great!
hope this helps

battery is much worse than the one in hermes. actually as far as i am concerned they don't make such 'long life on batteries' PDA's anymore - and i say this when GPS is off because with GPS Artemis dies in a moment :] for me most important thing is 'how long my device can live without charging' that's why i don't have Kaiser for example
I've changed my mind, seems the Hermes is better Spec'd other than GPS and has the larger battery!
Maybe I'll wait until something else comes about! Thanks.
good to hear your sticking with the hermes
just wanted to say an external gps reciever with a hermes would run better than the orbit
(channels, battery etc)
so you made the right choice
I caved in and sold the Hermes in the end (£105), and I bought the Artemis (Orbit £120) off ebay.
I was just annoyed at the little scratch on the screen and couldn't be bothered to change the screen/digitizer. Just hoping the screen on my new phone isn't scratched or I'll be back in the same place again! Although I've seen Orbit screens for £18 so it's not too bad even if I do have to swap.
Anyway goodbye people, nice owning the Hermes but time to move on!

HTC TyTN - Couple of Questions

I'm looking into gettin a mobile pda and i'm looking into a couple of models.
So how's the HTC TyTN?
Speedwise, touch screen, application, roms?
I've heard that there aren't any proper graphics drivers for the tytn resulting into slow down when using the tytn.
Is it true?
Any other things i should know about it?
Thanks!
Tytn is fine, though getting a bit older now. The Tytn II is the one with the problem graphics drivers.. Can't tell you what the latest and best is as here in Oz we're still waiting for the Diamond and over in the US and Europe you now have the Omnia and are looking to soon get the Touchpro.
Cheers...
They are still selling new ones here in aus... I got an almost new one (couple of small scratches and less than 4 hours total use) for $200 AUD.
The only other pda phone I considered was the iMate 9502, but it a bit expensive, big and keyboard is small...
I use mine for everything... My music and vids, my minute taking at meetings etc etc...
Depends on what ya want it for...
Thanks for your replies.
Yes, the i-Mate 9502 is awesome, but the price is too much unfortunately.
I'm also checking on the TyTN2, but it seems it has got a couple of issues so i'll have to tick it off the list - a shame because it seemed everything i was looking for was in it!

HTC Touch Upgrade??

ok guys and gals I hope all have had a good festive period!!
here’s my question, I have just been offered a free upgrade by orange uk to the htc touch hd, I currently have the htc diamond.
it has been my first WM phone and I must say I am true convert. I have been looking longley with envy at the htc touch hd and I am defo going to own one; but with it being so new to the market I was wondering if any else has done the upgrade and wished they had waited a bit longer for a more stable product.
as i'm not that experienced at putting on ROMs does the one shipped with the orange branded phone work well??
or should i wait untill orange bring a 2nd Rom like they did with the diamond and untill android is fully working on the phone??
thanks for any advice given!!
I think shipped Roms aren't good (enough) at all. I like the possibility to flash another rom, whenever I want to.
So I would not put any stress on the shipped rom, there are already so many great cooked roms out there, so that is really no problem.
Flashing a cooked rom isn't a problem, it takes 10 minutes, if you know what to do, else you will have to read through the wiki, but it is really managable.
so does any one have any views on if the upgrade from the touch diamond to the touch hd is it worth it right now, or is it better to hang fire for a while untill the android os and a good offical rom from orange is out??
I still have the standard htc rom on my HD, version 1.14 and it is stable as can be, I don't feel any need to flash it. All you need to do is make a few tweaks and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with it. My HD somehow feels a little bit faster than a diamond, eventhough they have the same hardware inside and might I say inspite of the higher resolutions screen.
Given the choice I would pick the HD over the diamond any day, the extra big screen is well worth the price premium you pay over a diamond

I too find 1.14 to be faster than most cooked ROMs. Perhaps 1.14 is faster than 1.19.

hello everyone!
i'm also offered an upgrade from my old nokia n95, but i'm a little hesitant as i already have an htc touch diamond on another contract with orange. will it be practical to own both the htc touch diamond and the touch hd? i was initially eyeing the samsung omnia but it will cost me over £100 on my current tariff, whereas they can give me the touch hd for free. i've been having this "dilemma" for like a month now and im still undecided. anyone who can give me their views, i'd be grateful.
