Carphone warehouse - do they still do £45 screen replacement? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

They told me they did but that was a few months ago. Anyone enquired recently and been accepted/turned down for LCD replacement for £45 on the Universal?
Oh and if anyone has a spare/used good LCD screen let me know!
Greg.

Carphone Warehouse cannot directly repair any MDA XDA or SPV smartphone it usually goes back to the manufacture or network for the actual repair. best way to get quoted lead times and cost is to use the website and find the local Express repair centre. The other options would be to call their sales line and ask to be put through to repairs, or if you dont' mind a non geographic number dial 0870 0870 167 and that is the direct number for repairs they should be able to tell you roughly quoted prices and lead times based on make and model.

Thanks, will do. Why based on make/model? They were advertising 'any make/model lcd replaced, £45 all in'

PDA phones are specialty phones that also includes the blackberry.
specialty meansing really they are PDA's first not just phones
and that has alot to do with it, the other is the manufacture/network agreement. since O2/t-mobile/orange/vodaphone rebranded the htc phones, they became the manufacture in those cases. I'm betting this is why Orange is droping the SPV branding in replacement for the HTC logo on the same phones hehehehe

Just called them, my local branch in Nottingham. They still do fixed price phone screen replacement but the XDA Exec is in the higher band now and is therefore £85 to have repaired, formerly £45 but no longer.
Ahhhh well.
Looking for a broken XDA with good screen, Greg.

I have a Brand New LCD you could fit yourself if interested it's £35 plus £5 postage

Where to buy an XDA2 Sim Free in the UK.......anyone know

Hello all
Basically I am having to put an insurance claim in for my old XDA and the insurance company need me to get quotes for a replacement (which will be the XDA2). However, having searched many places in the UK everywhere can only give me prices for contract XDA2's.
Does anybody know of shops or retail outlets that will sell the XDA2 sim free??? O2 themselves won't, Carphone Warehouse etc won't so apart from Ebay (which I do not know if the insurance company would be happy with) I am a bit stuck.
Any one offer any advice??
With thanks
Ian J
Hi,
The only place I know about is http://www.expansys.co.uk . The price is expensive though as its sim free, but if your not paying. Who cares
Rgds,
Rob.
Top man Rob
No probs dude.

I'm buying my xda2 tomorrow sim free for £300 from my local o2 shop as they have a special offer on at the moment
Moonmonkey, can you give more details about this offer, they are selling you an xda2 without a contract at £300? I didnt think O2 sold phones unless they hooked you to a contract.
It doesn't matter if you get one locked to O2 as within this web site is the software to unlock it. It will have the O" logo and settings in it but that doesn't matter as you can change the ROM as well. I've lost the link within the site for it but it's free and works. just follow the easy instructions.

I'm buying mine sim free as its a replacement phone to my xda1 and I don't want another contract..Erm well normally they sell it sim free for something stupid like £400-450 and with contract for £350...they reduced the price to £300 earlier this year then down to £200something with contract so the price for simfree naturally went down aswell...I'll fill you in when I get bck from the shop hopefully later today
Good luck Moonmonkey, regardless of price if you can find any o2 shops that have the xda II in stock i'll be impressed.
If only o2 spent a small part of there advertising budget keepng there distribution channels properly stocked!
Brand new xda2 on ebay, £400 buy now
here is the link, make sure you can collect, it looks genuine to me but be aware of scammers, do not part with cash until sure, the guy wants immediate payment via paypal.

Please help me, I dropped my XDA IIi

I dropped my XDA on my feet then bounced on the floor. The screen is cracked in the middle, now it looks like encrypted TV channels (if you know what I mean) I can't see anything underneath. Went to 02 and they quoted screen replacement is abour £180 to £200. I couldn't believe in my ears. Does anybody know where to get the screen cheap? Is the screen on IIi identical to that of II. Please don't suggest me to upgrade to XDA Exec as it has half memory of XDAIIi and thick like a Big Mac.
Many thanks for any suggestion
no i recall the screen size being a bit diffrent
maybe the connector too
XDA Exec do NOT! have ½ the memory of XDAIIi
XDAIIi share memory normaly ½ for storage ½ for applications
Exec only use the memory for applications and store data in flash
Hey
you can find the screen replacement for the XDAIIi oh this website
the company is located in California, and you have to send the device to then so they will replace it .cosidering the huge price O2 charges for the new screen, it is best for you to send it to the us to fix it, the price for the screen and the replacement service is 190US dollas

You can get the handsets reapired directly by HTC, by going to the following website.
www.htceurope.com
Screen replacement is about £100, though the prioces varies a little depending on your model. For example, a basic XDA2 cost £103 inc. vat.
They do accept out of warranty XDA's for repair, as well as being the repairer of in-warranty MDA2 models.
Just waiting for my freshly repaired XDA2 to return today! Not bad seeing as though i only dispatched it to them on Wednesday!
Repair XDAII etc
www.pdatechcenter.nl
they just repaired mine, great and reasonably priced.
They answer the phone and you can talk with them....

Need a Screen Replacement

Yes, I got the dreaded cracked screen after I dropped my device. Can someone tell me where I can buy another screen or a replacement one. I have been on EBay and that did not have any luck.
screen
if its any of the xda's 1,2 or S, u can buy it from www.pdasmart.com . Efficent service and the cheapest ones as well.. but mate if its executive or jasjar..then u r screwed..cause i broke mine few days back..n i got a replacement from imate at a cost of $180.
Screen replacement
It is a JasJar... You said you got a replacement screen from IMate? who did you contact? do you still have the link or contact information?
ok today was a great day I found a place in US that will fix JasJars broken/cracked lLCD Screens. $250 = new screen and they install it.
http://www.pocketpctechs.com
At top of home page you have a option to select your device
of course this works for all versions of the HTC Universal which JasJar is one of.
250 sounds a lot. how much is a new jasjar over there?
I am not sure how much they are selling for, I am not even sure any of the couriers (Cigualar, Tmobile, Sprint) even have them on their radar to start selling them. I was one of the lucky ones at a Microsoft PDC and bought mine for $150. I can tell you after I broke my lcd I worked with IMATE for a repair and they wanted $200 for a new LCD, but they could not tell me what the labor charge would be and I would have to pay for shipping to and from United Arab Emerates which from the TNT shipping company looked to be $80 each way. So I saw $200 + Labor charge $50 to $100 + 80 + 80 = $410 or $460 and did not feel the device was worth that.
I did put in a "Want it now" search in EBay and everyone wanted $200 or more just for the LCD panel
My thought was I was having a heck of a time 3 weeks to even find anyone who would sell a LCD or fix the device themselves. I tried many places in UK and Canada with no luck. This place was in USA (so i could bug them easier on what was happen) and seems to have a good reputation on the web.

Universal wanted, any flavour

Sick of ebay wasters and the insurance company who seem to think that I need a laptop [-]
Well, I smashed the screen on my MDA pro two weeks ago and it's hardly useable. If there's anyone in the UK who wants to sell me theirs (any brand: QTEK, Imate, o2, Orange, T mobile) then PM me please. Cash waiting.
Got one
Update:
OK, I've ordered a couple of units which I should have next week. Although my insurance co have finally coughed up and I should have my replacement on Monday!
So, before I ebay the BNIB XDA Execs, anyone here want them? They will be treated as a trade sale (my company will not provide any warranty) and the price is £255.32+VAT (£300 including VAT) + shipping each. If you are outside the EU, you won't have to pay UK VAT.
This is assuming this deal goes through and my orders from the supplier are honoured.
First come first served - this is not a money spinner for me, although I'm not intending to lose out on the deal!
To clarify, I ordered two before I knew the insurance co would
1) replace my old unit
2) Not want my old unit
So they are sending me a new one and I'll get my old one repaired (been quoted £139+VAT by www.turnonyourmobile.com)
So that means the two I've ordered will be surplus to requirements. I reckon that's a cracking deal and I'll sell them on if anyone wants them. If I don't get any replies before my order is confirmed, I'll just cancel my order.

What to do?

Hello everyone,
I have some bad news regardinging my Hermes!
After a bout of anger at the whitescreen and"twisting" it to reconnect the LCD, it displays an image but the image is very white.
Do I get a Hermes off ebay with a dud logicboard, or do I get a new mobile?
I have £100 to spend on a replacement hermes, and £150 to spend on a new mobile (Virgin gave me a £50 voucher)
I would like my hermes to work but is it economical?
I have seen some nice Nokia's in the Virgin shop, but they have nowhere near the functionality that the Hermes has.
Have same problem, just bought a dud hermes off ebay for $110aud(for parts). Not sure what the exchange rate is for pounds though. Up to you but I thought I'd try this as I have a motorola fone that is a stand-in BUT NOT A REPLACEMENT. There are also HTC handsets available for good prices. I'd check it out if I was you.
Cheers...
