wifi settings problem - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have recently experienced a stranfe problem with one of my wifi connections. I am using this connection to browse internet, and suddenly I lose connection and geta notice that the network key is incorrect. Upon checking I discover that the network key is cleared from the settings and the authentication type has been changed to open. This has occurred twice now, with no apparent changes anywhere else on the device. My laptops continue to access with no problem. My other wifi connections are not affected as of yet, although I rarely use this device on other wifi networks. soft reset does not resolve, I have to reenter authentication method and network key.
additional info linksys router.
using wpa-psk,tkip protocals.
Rom in signature.
Any thoughts? Has anyone else ever seen this? It seems like some process is actualy changing my settings for this network.

Has nobody else ever seen this? It seems to be occurng more frequently now. Now it just loses the network key. Any thoughts?

Wifi looses WEP key

Hi. This happened to me twice on my Dopod 900 so I'm guessing something is wrong here. I have a 128bit WEP enabled home WiFi network. The Dopod works well on this network but I was asked on two occasions to enter the WEP key again. I enter it and it works for a few days and then all of a sudden it is asked of me again... Anyone else seen this behavior? Any ways to avoid it? Thanks
You're not the only one.
The Universal loses my access points (completely disappears from the list) and wants to re-pair my Bluetooth devices (GPS and headset) (sometimes they are listed, sometimes they disappear from the list, too) every so often. I'm surprised no one else has talked about this either.
I've seen it also. If your universal seems unusually slow to connect ot the access point, you better have to stop it, or it will loose your access poitn info. After a soft reset, everything goes back to normal.
This behaviour is appening rarely though, and is not a major bug to me, as it only appens once every 100 connections. It can also depend on your access point.
I connect my o2 Exec with my own and four different customer's ADSL-router/gateway/WiFi devices and have not experienced this, even when a couple of weeks elapse between my site visits. I normally configure full WPA-PSK/TKIP encryption, MAC address restrictions and use DHCP allocated addresses. A VPN is then used to connect from the wireless side through another firewall to the internal network.
Is there any correlation between the WiFi routers that have given you all problems. I use various ZyXEL models.
Getting really strange... All of a sudden, I'm getting prompted for my Exchange password that I connect to 4Smartphone.net... It seemed to have forgotten the password?
WTF?!?
lose wep
same for me
So it is not only my ****ty non -updated sfr rom ;-)
Are you getting a NO GSM message on your boot screen and/or is your IMEI missing from the Device Information applet?
I'm trying to see if the two issues are related.
I got the NO GSM message, and from that point forward, I lost the pairing of my Bluetooth devices and the wireless access points.
My theory: Any passwords or authentications are encrypted using the IMEI of the phone portion. When the IMEI is not present (shows a blank under Device Information) due to the NO GSM issue, the Windows Mobile OS instantly wipes out those "invalid" passwords or authentications or simply invalidates them, causing you to reauthenticate the device to other devices.

I don't know if it is relevant, but in the last 10 days I've come up with the PHONE OFF display without any reason. When this happens the phonepad appears out of nowhere, instead of my carrier's logo, it says Phone Off and the 9000 freezes.
Only soft reset solves the problem No I didn't have any problems YET with the WEP keys in my wifi connections...
Should I be worried though???
I'm not getting a NO GSM message on my boot screen or my IMEI is missing not from the Device Information applet. Sorry for not being able to confirm your hunch. The only times this happened to me was when I was at an extreme edge of the WiFi coverage and signal was very low. I was flipping in & out of it and eventually the WEP key prompt popped up. Very strange. Moral of the story for the time being for me, stay near that AP... Oh by the way, its a Netgear for what its worth.
Save and Restore Wifi Settings
My understanding is if there is any problem connecting to Wifi, WM6 deletes the Wifi settings for that access point. I think my friends have come up with a quick solution to this problem. Wifi Hero is a little application you can get for $2 that saves and restores your wifi settings using standard Windows Mobile APIs. Search for "Wifi Hero" and you should find it or the direct link is http://www.wireless-apps.net/desc.php?d=d1&id=246823
The coders work for Implicit Software (www.ImplicitSoftware.com) if anyone is interested in a site licence for this tool you can contact them through their web page.
Have you guys tried going to start>settings>connections>wifi>power> and putting it at "best performance." I've heard of similar (also experienced) issues when the bar was at best battery.

Skyfire will connect to internet, NOTHING else on my phone will??

This is very odd. Suddenly today I'm getting connection errors (GPRS) on every program on my phone EXCEPT for Skyfire. Skyfire can connect and surf the net with no problem, but not one other app on my phone will connect to the net, and I've tried several browsers as well as apps that connect directly (i.e. YouTube, Google Maps, etc).
I'm on AT&T in the US (New Orleans, specifically). I've checked and triple-checked my Media Net connection settings, and nothing has changed that I can see since the last time I was able to use it successfully. I've soft-reset several times, to no avail. I don't know if this is an issue, but while I was using WiFiWMRouter yesterday, it crashed. But I used the "Reset All Settings" function of that which is a crash cleanup of sorts, and still no luck.
What else can I check? It would seem that if it were an AT&T issue, Skyfire wouldn't be able to connect either!
Weird, I have the exact same problem too. I probably wouldn't have known that Skyfire could connect until I saw your post. My problem began (I think) when I uninstalled WMWifiRouter last night. I haven't gotten a connection with any other app since then. I had a hell of a time uninstalling an old version or WMWR I had installed just so I could install the PAID version and now it is apparently causing problems even on uninstall...
To add to this - I've confirmed that devices connected with ICS can connect to the internet through the phone. So it seems to me that the problem is related to some wifi settings (maybe that WMWR sets up) that aren't being "released" when wifi is turned off/disconnected.
If I do a hard reset the connection seems fine. If I then restore a backup from right before the problem started the connection is okay, but only until I try wifi again. From then on it's borked until I restore the backup again... frustrating as hell.
FWIW - I think I pinned down what was going on with my phone. In my wifi settings something (probably WMWR or Phojo) had set a static IP when establishing an ad-hoc network and didn't revert to "obtain an IP address automatically" when I quit/uninstalled the program. I don't know why the IP address of the wifi network adapter affects my cellular data connection, but setting that to "obtain automatically" and turning wifi back off allowed my phone to connect again. So it seems like it was using that IP address regardless.

Can't connect to WiFi using Touch HD

Hi everyone.
First off, I know there are a million and one other threads.. believe me.. I have searched!
Basically my phone won't connect to my network. It was working fine earlier today. I've tried changing all the security settings in my router (turning off encryption for example). I've tried soft resetting and hard resetting the phone.
Nothing seems to be working. It finds the network fine, but it just says 'Connecting' then goes to 'Available' but it won't use the wifi connection.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Have you tried connecting your device using a friends wifi router to see if this connect you
Nope. I forgot to add that I will try connecting to work's WiFi tomorrow!
Anything to try in the mean time?
Try these:
1) disable frame bursting
2) disable big packets and other methods of wifi speeding
3) force 11b
4) use WPA-PSK TKIP only
5) check if you have MAC or other access filtering
than let us know

1) Can't see any settings under my router.
2) Tried disabling gnitro (Belkin router), no difference.
3) No difference
4) Already on that.
5) Turned off.
It's so odd. Works fine with an N95.
I don't think it's anything to do with my router because like I said it worked fine earlier on in the day then suddenly stopped. The router settings hadn't changed.
Edit: I've tried turning the router security off altogether also. I really don't feel it's an issue with my router.
Tested the phone at work. It works fine.. so I don't have a clue why it's not working at home? Surely the router can't be incompatible with the phone.. especially considering it worked at one point.
Very weird! I got fed up with my router so decided to restore the factory defaults and start from scratch.. worked straight away! So I restored the settings back to exactly how they were before (using a backup file I made).. and it worked!
Just posting incase it happens to anyone else anyway.

Maybe uve tried this already but could be the fact that your home internet access point is listed as Work rather than internet, used to have an issue with mine cause of that.
I also have this problem.
Reset did not help.
Listed as internet or work did not help in both cases.
Real weird!!
I've got the same problem, all of a sudden my hd won't connect to my router.
I can connect to open networks (wi-fi hotspots etc) so i know the wifi in the phone is working ok and my partners diamond can connect ok to my router, so the router is obviously ok.
Have reset the router as well and haven't changed any settings on the phone.
Don't understand!!!!
as other users point out within other threads, it seems that Blackstone has a problem connecting to wifi networks when WPA Authentification is enabled
try to disable it. it worked for me and soem other guys
good luck!
I could connect to my router fine using my laptop.. but I still had to reset my router to the factory settings before it worked again on my Touch HD.. then I could enable WPA and everything back again. So try that!
i thought i had a similiar problem, mine wouldnt connect to wifi, kept switching itself off. figured this is normal when its connected to usb. unplug usb and it turns back on!
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
Hi
I used to have problem using any secure wireless connection. Then I realized that you need a personal certificate to use secure wireless networks. It uses certificate to encrypt connection between access point. I have access to a windows certificate server so I created a personal certificate with private key and import it to my mobile. Now I can login to any secure wireless network.
A solution has been posted for data connection problems. Can be found here

That solution doesn't seem to work for this problem.
Resetting the router does seem to work.
I don't get why resetting the router works.... other devices can still connect no problems before resetting, so it only seems to be aproblem with the hd.
It also sux when you are using a public router with this problem that you can't reset.
Connecting to Belkin router
Guys, I had the same problem as well. HTC touch HD used to connect to the router fine but after installing an update/upgrade it would pick the signal from the router but would not connect. (I was using WEP authentication at this time)
SOLUTION:
Go to belkin router configuration on the web.
Under security change the Securtiy Mode to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK)
Change authentication to WPA-PSK
Select Encryption to TKIP and enter your password.
GO to your HTC touch HD's WiFi setting and turn Wifi ON. Select your home network SSID and edit it using the information you used on the router i.e. WPA-PSK ; TKIP, enter your key/password and click next, next and finish.
Worked for me....hope it helps.
WIFI not connecting
That truly is extremly nasty.
I have the same issue - wifi found, correct password (WEP, WPA all settings) but no successful connection.
Took an old HTC 3xxx - runs immediately.
I can not reset the router - there are too many users, they will kill me then.
So I installed an Access point (Sparklan WX 7800A) to play with.
Notebooks (HP, MSI and ASUS) have successful internet access, also the old HTC 3xxx.
But still the HTC HD does not connect.
Tried "WIFI Monster" - shows the wifi, but does not connect.
(But it deletes all wifi entries easily - so you can set them up new)
Tried with NO security/password: same issue.
WEP, WPA (all kinds): no connection
There must be something to be changed in the registry - but I have no idea what & where.
Or is the wifi that useless ?????
Maybe someone can help
Ciao
Mike
I had the same problem. But the problem stopped when i connect my htc HD to my laptop and used activesync to connect to internet. After i disconnected it, open wifi and... works ok!!

Problem with hidden Wifi network

I just got my Diamond2 - it is my first personal Windows Mobile phone, and so far I am generally pleased with it.
I have been developing applications for Windows Mobile and WinCE devices for years as part of my work, and has thus used such devices extensively, so i don't consider myself a noob.
I have a serious problem though. At home I have a hidden Wifi network (no SSID broadcast). I can configure this network just fine, and the Diamond2 connects to it and all is well. However, when the phone loses connection to the network, it doesn't reconnect and it loses my network profile settings totally, or at least so it seems. That means I have to enter my very long WPA key again (or have it in plain text on the device so I can copy/paste it, but I would rather avoid that).
Anyone else have this problem and hopefully a solution? It is really the only thing annoying me right now with this device.
Not sure to be honest but why not just have it on broadcast SSID if you already have WPA security on it? I know it's not a fix to what you want but the fact it's hidden is probably the whole reason it won't reconnect.
That is the solution I have deferred to right now, and it seems to be working.
I just think it ought to work with hidden networks as well, and indeed it does, it just "forgets" the settings when disconnected and doesn't reconnect.
Thats strange. I have mine hidden as well but it works just fine.
It also works 2 other places which I have tried that runs no SSID broadcast. The keys used are WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.
Have you tried Hard Resetting your device? I know its a pain, but mine also had some bugs out of the box which got fixed after a Hard Reset..
I have the same problem now.
I have a hidden wireless network and can configure it just fine in the topaz.
It works quite well and fast (54Mbit WPA2, PSK, AES) and connects without problems most of the time.
But then sometimes it tries to connect to my network (I can see this in the wifi overview) without success.
My wireless setting then disappears completely from the topaz.
Then I have to recreate the complete wifi setting from scratch again.
This setting can be used at once just fine, but will fail and disappear again after a while (number of days? number of reconnects?)
Does anyone know, where the wifi settings are stored?
Couldn't find it in the registry with searching for the wifi SSID.
Maybe a backup could be made and restored if the setting is gone again.
It sounds like a bug for me, because you can explicitly configure a hidden network (via checkbox) and the setting should not be removed in case of any connection problem to that network.

Wifi on Lolipop 5.0 G870A will not connect

For the last week or two I have been unable to connect my phone to wifi networks.
At first the problem would be that I was getting disconnected from any wifi network I joined, now I can't connect at all.
The wifi networks page sometimes (not always) does not detect a strong network even if I am standing a few feet away and the phone has previously connected and other APs are connected and working like my pc
If I try to connect then I get the "Connecting" status followed by "Saved, secured"
I have searched the internet looking for a fix to this and tried wiping the cache partition, forgetting the network, airplane mode toggling on and off, apps that wipe the known network list and some others including lastly a factory reset on the phone but nothing seems to remedy the issue.
From the wifi router I have tried using an unencrypted (open) connection
Now I think I may also be having problems with the bluetooth connecting in the car but I haven't had a chance to really investigate that one yet and it may or may not be related to the last factory reset.
My phone is not rooted.
Build no. LRX21T.G870AUCU2B0F3
kernel3.4.0-4443965

Can anyone offer any assistance to my current issue ?
Alan
I have just confirmed that the Bluetooth in my car is not detecting my phone when it scans (the phone bt is switch on and the visible box being checked) so that's both radios with similar issues.

Im having same issue with wifi... sm-g900r4
I just stumbled on a clue, while using an app called 'wifi cleaner' there is a feature allowing you connect to wifi networks within the app. I type in the password, authenticating is shown on the screen followed by "incorrect password".
I know the password to be correct..
Mmm

I was wondering if you ever got this issue fixed?
I thought I had but the problem comes back in a different way.
Sometimes wifi connects but only connects at 5 mbps.
Now wifi will not turn on at all. ( radio button is greyed in settings)
I did find a thread on xda where some Motorola users were having the wifi off issue and it was due to a missing system file which could be replaced on a rooted device. However I don't have root on my s5 g870a and it's not likely I can get it.
