update on the petition... - Sable

Some of you may or maynot be aware that i started a petition to try and turn HP's stance on their aweful support of our expensive brick...
I emailed a while back and acctually got a real response back from someone basicly saying that they will definatly not be offering the WM6 upgrade for the hw69XX.
Im not at my computer i got the email delivered to, but if you want it i can post it here when im home.
It basicly goes a way into saying how they carefully considered it and decided not to offer it, and thanked me for my time and passion for the device... grrrrr patronising t*ats

How to get Android 2.3 on your X10

First I would like to say that I think it is slightly ridiculous that everyone is wasting their time trying to get 2.2 in Q4. Specially when SE have already promised to upgrade the device in Q4; which probably means Q1 of 11'. There is also a very good chance that this upgrade will be 2.2. And, to anyone who knows how the leadership at SE think, this makes perfect sense.
But why are people even asking for the 2.2 when the 2.3 which is currently being engineered to actual phone models and is scheduled to go on sale Q4?
There will soon be more time spent attempting to root the X10 than it took on the ps3. Obviously we all need to keep the faith, but. Truth be told many of us would have dropped SE like a bad habit had we not been able to root the past few flag ship devices. Because all this flashy hardware means nothing if there are devices with less impressive hardware that out produce our phones because the 'other' company has figured out how optimize the latest available software.
So it came to me: I read some where that SE claims they patched this phone up nice and tight as a favor to their customers Because too many people were bricking their phones. It is also a benefit to SE since they do not get loaded down with telephone calls from disgruntled owners.
So here is my idea. Forget all the angry posted, and forget signing a petition for the 2.2 (when the 2.2 is what you will most likely get anyway). If you want to be angry about something be angry that this phone wasn't 2.x in May. And the angry posted threads and petitions are pretty much world wide now.
Here is what we all do: Pick up your telephone and call SE customer service and tell them you want the 2.3 in Q4. Call them once a week and make the call take as long as possible. If we all called once a week we would drive SE mad! Tell your SE rep that you are tired of waiting so long for updates that are already last years products. They would have only two choices. 1) release the root to the X10 them selves or, 2) give us the 2.3 in Q4
Everyone: CALL SE AND DEMAND MORE!

I am not angry at all. I find the whole situation rather humorous. But for those who want results, I would recommend calling customer service to complain.
But please, no matter how you manifest your complaints, please ask for the 2.3
ya...atleast we can let SE know that we are not happy.
lol fill there call centers with os upgrade request weekly. not a bad idea haha

Haha, made me laugh reading this
You think they would notice a few thousand calls per day all demanding the 2.3 in Q4?
I think it's a great idea, if I do say so myself.
Here are the world wide contact phone numbers.

We hope the only reason for the delay is the mediascape and such crap.... Maybe when they finish those new apps the will keep us more upgraded.... :|
nice idea
we all should place atleast 1 call weekly
no thanks i have a life. you want root so badly why would u end up getting x10 then? patience is the key it will come sooner or later

This has nothing to do with root, this has to do with x10 behind 3 updates at any given time.

SE has done nothing to let you all down, they have said everything you need to know in order to make your choice of phone! Personaly i picked this phone over software for 3 reasons, estetics, big screen and the best camera you can find in a phone today. I am happy with my device, you who are not must have critically failed your research before you went out and got a new device! I knew what i was getting from the start so theres very little to be dissapointed about.

you are making it sound like rooting the phone will solve all its problems. what makes you think you can even load 2.2 on it? you will still need SE to release the specific drivers for each update. if you are so keen on wasting time bothering their low level customer service representative who probably have zero say in the updates, be my guest. just remember you are wasting your own time and their money. the money they waste on you guys might just be what'll prevent them from further supporting the x10 beyond 2.1 after Q4.

Tjotte: There is no doubt the current status will effect different users in different ways. Glad to hear that you are amongst the group that has gotten what you were looking for. I think even those people less pleased than yourself are happy for you.
However, I think we can all see from this site that not everyone shares in your enthusiasm. And, we users should respect these opinions as well. You only stand to gain if these people are successful in their efforts to get more for our devices.

First, let me say thank you! That's right , thank you. I think everyone who would like to see a MUCH MORE proactive SE after sales service are grateful that we have your permission to proceed in any manor we see fit. Your approval really means the world to us.
Second, let's discuss this "further support" you mention. As a long time SE customer with every flag ship device SE has made in the last eight years in my possession allow me to dispel a myth. You will get the update that was promised to you, even if it takes over a year to get it. Than you and every other X10 owner are going to be dropped like a hot potato. Forget what anyone says, go by what they ALWAYS do. Actions speak louder than words. But, this is the same story year in and year out. Why do you think SE even mentioned continued support? Because they know it is problem number one that SE customers have.
In the end I am sure it will rank right up there with the Black service cards they issued to X1 owners. Which by the way were meaningless. Nothing extra, nothing what so ever. Just a peice of black plastic with the letters VIP typed on the face of it, JOKE.
Third, is rooting the end all of end all's? Of course not, but at least I know from experience that I will be in control of my device, and I do not have to wait years for something I can do in a matter of a few days. And, I will have 100 times better device than someone who does not have their phone rooted.
Lastly, Will calling in to SE bother the "low level" customer service reps? This is what their job is. To listen to their customers complaints. I don't think they get many phone calls telling them ' I just called to say hello'. And, these reps not only have meetings sharing the hot topics they have been facing each week. But they also enter the information in SE's system which is reviewed by their supervisors. So if enough people called in believe me the 'high level' decision makers would get the message. If you combine this with the bad publicity they are getting, emails, and petitions, I think they will get the message that we SE customers are getting tired of being taken for granted.
@fm1776 - I think you're right about this point... if we make enough noise then we will be heard. People dissing others ideas when they have none if their own adds no value and serves no useful purpose. We, the customer simply need to keep cranking up the volume until we're heard. It is the only way.

Elocity Support back on track!!

I asked about a few things and Elocity answered all of my questions.
I have to say they are trying for sure and I think if we collectively give them a chance they will give you good service.
Here is a response to my question about 3.0 or gingerbread,
Hello Robert
The A7 can be upgraded to Android 2.3 though it will not be upgraded to Android 3.0. We will be posting the upgrade notice on the website and also keep all our customers who've registered on the website notified by email.
So there you have it. Official word is no 3.0 but they will upgrade us to gingerbread. I would have loved 3.0 and I hope the people on this forum will help make that happen but it is nice to know that we will at least get another upgrade to the latest available with our hardware specs. They gave me no indication of when this will happen but at least it is in the works.
Personally I am very happy with their response. Compared to other manufacturers at least they are giving us some updates and to me that is a very good sign.
I am now very happy with my purchase. When I bought the a7 I thought 3.0 would run but there was no guarantee of it when I bought the device so it was my risk but even so the fact we will continue to get updates is very promising. When 3.0 comes out maybe in time they may change their stance or maybe google will fork 3.0 for tabs and phones and we will keep getting the phone updates. I am not sure but I just wanted to have at least one OS upgrade as there are a lot of perks in 2.3 over 2.2 so if I am stuck with that version officially at least it is a good version to have and will be able to utilize this tabs hardware properly. Considering I paid $300 for this device I am very happy with it. It does a lot for the money. Now with updates I feel very happy with the Streams initial efforts. We will see if they keep it up. Thanks to Dexter's help this device is great. They made a little blunder in the beginning but they are trying so I am going to give them my support as a customer and not return the a7.

Wish that they would answer me. I asked a question several weeks ago and just recieved a note that they got the messages but no response to the question.
My question was about a fixfor the gsenser
E-mail them again!
According to them they had a glitch with an e-mail server and did not receive any of our e-mails until a short while ago. So either they are going in order and will get to you or maybe it just got lost in the process. I would e-mail them again and I am sure you will get a faster response.
All I am saying and I was not praising them for great service because frankly it is just starting to become good is you can see they are trying to address our concerns. As long as they are giving a real effort then I say give em a little slack. If they were truly ignoring us or would continue to do so then I would have a completely different opinion.
We will see with time if they do what they say but I have no reason to doubt them. They have already given the a7 a couple of firmware updates I am aware of.
In any case I hope your problem gets resolved soon.
What is the problem with the g-sensor in your unit??

Yeah I saw that. I mean really, are they going to make a big stink about that? That would mean they are prying into your personal info which is why this whole sending in to get the upgrade crap sucks. They should not even turn it on.

Unless there is a software upgrade required for the 4G to work and if its rooted the update won't apply correctly. It should be simple enough to revert it to stock before sending it in though.
How is this different than any other device? lol people have been having to unroot their phones for years in order to send back in for repair/service/etc...
imo moto needs to get their panties out of a knot and relax when it comes to hackers
pretty much only techie people will root their phones and install custom firmware not your average joe, if its anything they should let the techies do their thing while still offering services like this(upgrades only NOT repairs)
The moderator from motorola wasnt reffering to the 4g upgrade he meant software otas
Yeah, Matt was referring to ota updates. I frequent the support forums over at motorola, and he said when he gets more info that he will put it out. I covered it in the sticky post this morning after I read that news article. Sorry, posting from my phone, or I would givea link to the forum post where he covered that issue.

A friend and I got into a discussion about the very same thing but the subject was about WHO really owns what you bought.
If you think about this, anything YOU buy outright with hard earned greenbacks, is NOT really yours to begin with. Everything today comes with a WARRANTY and legal DISCLAIMERS with any product you buy these days, it essentially says that said product will be covered as long as you don't abuse said product in it's ORIGINAL MANUFACTURED STATE !
It's funny but when you really think about this and life, it sucks !
Who could ever imagine that that piece of land with garbage and tires and whatnot, could make someone RICH by landscaping it into a CEMETERY. You go rent a small portion of dirt so when your time comes, you have some place where they could bury you, how IRONIC ! especially when you have to pay for upkeep costs.
Just follow the Re-locking instructions in this [GUIDE] Unlocking (& Re-locking) the Motorola Xoom for flashing thread and all is good?

I would be careful relocking. I've heard of a few people bricking their phones (no adb, no fastboot, no recovery) trying to flash back to stock. Wait around a bit longer for the process to get ironed out IMO.
none of my $$ for moto anyway
Not sure why this is such a surprise. I wouldn't expect Motorola to service a rooted, or hacked device in any way.. nor would I expect that from HTC, Samsung, LG.. you get the point.
Now if they had some super secret chip that can tell if was EVER rooted and were denying upgrades.. THAT would be news. (But still not a surprise)
Regardless, since Motorola wants to be a bunch of pricks about their hardware (Atrix).. They will never see a dime from me unless this policy changes (Atrix).. and even then.. it may simply be too late. I believe in the power of the consumer and I just wish everyone else did.
MOTO is just below Sony and Apple on my SH$^% list. I was already boycotting Sony over their Playstation policy and the devices general crappyness, but Suing George Hotz for hacking a device HE purchased AND owns, and THEN making a motion (and winning) to seize and rifle through all of George's personal computers and data storage devices that he also owns is the epitome of hypocritical. I wont even PAY to see a Movie if Sony Pictures is involved.. (Thanks Bit-Torrent).
Sorry.. straying off topic.. So If you care about having the best hardware and it's made by a company who treats their customers like crap.. you have 2 choices.. 1) Buy the hardware anyway, and settle for being treated like crap, or 2) Settle for lesser hardware from a company you don't mind giving your money to.
While they had a rocky start... I'm looking forward to giving my money to Notion Ink for their Adam Tablet (as soon as they manufacturer enough to begin selling them again). They make solid hardware, and while the software needs improvement.. They are promising Honeycomb and they seem to have embraced the modders and hackers who make the device better. I hope it lasts.
Hope everyone's enjoying their xooms. That's what you get for buying one knowing Moto's policies. Let's keep sending money to the very company that's trying to strip us of our rights. Surely, that will change their policies.
For those still wondering, the thread has been updated by Motorola clarifying the issue.
All Motorola XOOM tablets on the Verizon Wireless network are eligible to receive an upgrade to support 4G LTE. This includes those that have been unlocked; however, those units must be submitted for upgrade with the original factory software reinstalled and the device relocked in order to receive the upgrade.
For devices that are returned unlocked, Motorola will attempt to complete the upgrade, but may be unable to update the software. In these cases, the device will be returned to the consumer with just the 4G LTE modem installed.
More details on the process will be available closer to the upgrade availability.

Shafted by Motorola!

Motorola have been promising Australian Xoom WI-FI owners an upgrade to ICS for a while now, to be delivered on Thursday June 21st.
Right up until yesterday the info was the same, so did we get it?
Of course not, they shafted us!
They released WI-FI and 3G ICS to Telstra, their biggest Australian customer, and told the rest of us they have no idea when we will now get it.
They even trot out the old rubbish about the WI-FI version being tested by carriers, as if we are all stupid.
I predict this will seriously reflect badly on Motorola, with many people on Facebook letting it be known that they will never buy from the company again.
Motorola, you blew it, big time!
Hence I moved to custom roms sometime last year. I was sick of delayed OTA updates and the like
They claim to be on Facebook all day, from 9am til 6pm, and have been every day, until today!
They sneaked on at 9am, posted the bad news, and haven't been back all day.

Couldn't you change your regional settings and receive the update? When I ordered my first wifi xoom, I received it and it had the singapore install on it. I then google'd how to change to USA, and it took me all of 10 minutes. Once I rebooted, it automatically updated.
Just a thought.
Hi, I'm looking into turning my Xoom into a GED, like the US ones, but I need to be in the mood, as I'm quite a n00b at these things, it also wipes, which I wanted to avoid.
http://www.simonjstuart.com/2011/07/23/gedify-your-non-us-wifi-xoom-for-n00bs/ this should be.what you are looking for deanbilly
Thanks Tech, that's the one I found, I'm just plucking up the courage to do it. :good:
I know how you feel, here in the UK we also receive absolutely no support from Motorola, all owners still waiting on the ICS update.
Go drop the GED image on it, I did.
... and steer clear of buying any more Motorola products unless you move to the US.
I too was waited for ages and was let down. A question if you change regional settings do you lose what's on your tablet? Same question when you update is it a clean install or does all games/app data stay on?? I have never upgraded tablet or android
I feel for you, man, but on the other side, it can't be as bad as it is in Brazil. Motorola here is simply absent. They give no feedback, no suport whatsoever.
A few weeks ago I called them inquiring about the ICS upgrade for the Xoom (3G, MZ605), and whoever was on the other side barely knew what ICS was.
Prior to the Xoom, the last Motorola device I had was the StarTac Elite, back in the 90's, and that was one great phone. I had 3 Motorola phones in a row back then. I got the Xoom based on that experience, and the only reason I don't regret it is because I've taken the plunge and gone ICS 4.0.4 with my Xoom (EOS Nightlies 79). If it was up to Motorola, I'd be sorry I got that device.
Seriously People..... Shafted by Motorola.....You're on XDA FFS. This is not really the place to have this sort of discussion.... Have you read the Samsung Galaxy Tab Forum, Full of people whining about lack of manufacturer support, Please don't take the Motorola Forums the same way.
I can understand your frustration, eagerly awaiting for an official device update only to receive what looks like a "shafting" from motorola......but again, WTF are you at XDA for if it's not to customize your device with the shiny new toys and all the info on upgrading, changing to a GED/US Version and getting said update etc are contained to in these forums, most are noob friendly.
If voiding the warranty etc bothers you than you're probably in the wrong place, Screw the Warranty, Screw the manufacturer, they've already screwed you. It's your device don't rely on them for anything after you've bought it, they've already had you're money and it's already an obsolete device to them......Interestingly lets not forget who owns Motorola! (although that's just Trivia)
Not to come across as a complete A*hole, here's the guide/update I used last to take a UK WIFI Xoom to ICS.... I don't even know if Motorola have released ICS on WIFI in europe, more to the point It doesn't matter/I don't care, I've had ICS since December on the Xoom.
With regard to losing all your data....Yes It will wipe your device. Here's what you do
get a good backup program, one that backs up the individual databases.
Sync your contacts to your google account,
Backup your apps to your google account - than it will download them all when you sign back in after update.
Backup the device fully using a nandroid backup from recovery then if anything goes wrong you can always return to that.
Sorry If this comes across as "Stand-offish" and don't take it personally after all I'm just some guy on the internet It just needed to be said as I've started to notice a few threads like this, for something that isn't an really an issue we have everything to workaround this.

Who the **** are you to tell me, or anyone else, what I should post here?
It's people like you who ruin this place for so many people, why can't you just do your thing and mind your own business?
i understand the frustration, im also using mz 601. install custom rom is not my thing. but what i dont understand why motorola took so long to update to ics. and why asus user doesn't have to wait so long to update hence asus is not using stock pure android.

OnePlus "Customer Support"...Tell your stories

Ok all. I am going here as I am seeing threads like this disappearing left and right over on the OnePlus Forums.
Let me start of by saying that overall I really like this phone. It looks awesome and CM 11 has so much going for it. Development is solid as all get out here thanks to all the devs working on this device. This is why I was so excited to get this device and so grateful for the invite provided by a member here.
However, this phone, just as many other phones may have some problems. A lot of which are software related and will be ironed out over time and just need some patience. Or try one of the many ROMS here and enjoy. Right?
But hardware problems, true hardware issues, are another thing. These require device replacements. The problem is, OP seems to either ignore customers or take inordinate amounts of time to respond. People are waiting literally upwards of a month or more to get a replacement device sent out, and good lord, I hope that those replacements are ok and without defects. This really should not be tolerated. I don't know why we would just say, "hey they are a new company, give them a break." (Everyone knows they are not really a new company I hope.)
So I would like to hear stories here. Post them up or PM me. I am trying to work with another user to get some things compiled and see what comes of it. Maybe some sites (cough cough...XDA) would be interested in this and maybe we can help bring some of this to light and hope the company will improve.
Or at the very least, get our broken phones replaced so we can get on with our lives and not feel like we got ripped for 350$. Of course I know there is buyer protection through Paypal, but should Paypal really have to be the ones dealing with this each time? I don't know, maybe OP planned it that way. Just let Paypal be our support. :silly:
By the way, if you are still reading this, my story is simple and just begining unfortunately. I got a device that did not have working volume keys out of the box. I have updated, flashed old and new stock ROMS, and nothing. Still don't work. I sent in a support ticket 6 days ago with a link to a video of what is going on and told them my problem. I have literally received no response at all since then.
I've got a story.
It started on July 23rd when I ordered my OnePlus One. It was supposed to arrive on the 26th, but it never came. Instead, USPS tracking said I wasn't at home, and they left a note. They didn't leave a note, and I was home. There was no doorbell no nothing. So, I waited until tuesday to see if the package would get re delivered to my house. It didn't get re delivered. I called USPS and went to my local post office. They gave me the normal BS, wait a few days, it could have gotten lost. Blah blah blah. How does a package get lost when it's out for delivery?! Anyways, I waited a few more days, and nothing. Contacted OnePlus support, and they said that their logistics team was looking into it, and it would take maximum 10 days for their investigation. 15 days later without another email, I opened a case on PayPal, and within 2 days, I had my money back.
OnePlus really needs to improve their customer service. Their phone is great, CM 11S is great, but customer service is a nightmare to deal with.
