Cootek Touchpal - P3600 General

Has anyone seen/tried this? It looks very similar to pocketcm keyboard, only suretype style...
http://www.cootek.com/index.html
It's a free download until Dec 8th, 2008...

Cool stuff
This is indeed a great soft keyboard. I found the following reviews around this product, pretty amazing:
http://www.maxartonline.com/
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/software/great_new_soft_keyboard.html

I can't get this to work.. Like some other keyboard, I suspect this could be due to the Chinese software / input method I've installed on my Trinity.
Can anyone with Asia ROM (with CE Star installed) confirm this?
So so sad...
[Edit] Ha!! ya, got it to work.. need to softreset after installation. Fantastic piece of application!!
[Edit 2] Ha!! You can drag the keypad and move them to your prefered position, e.g. spacing in the centre!!!

I think it just 'white-screened' my phone.
damnit. I tried to set it as a default input and now I may have to hard reset.

Seems you have to switch to TouchPal manually They didn't make it to be default IME in this version.
It works perfectly on my HTC Touch. So coooooooool stuff...
I really love word assoication feature...

Did you have to uninstall any other SIPs first? I had a couple other ones, including phonepad. I actually wasn't able to select it from the input selector, which is why I tried to make it the default.

Just paste the following to another thread:
Did you soft-reset your device? And it is possible that TouchPal is incompatible with some other non-default soft keyboards. My friend got TouchPal work after uninstalling a Chinese keyboard and reinstall TouchPal->Soft-Reset. He decided not to go back to other keyboard, even decide to give up hardware keyboard.

Hmmm. My device is now reset, and I have restored it to it's previous settings. I uninstalled tengo keyboard, and am now disabling spb fullscreen keyboard and phonepad.
Currently, TouchPal shows up in my SIP list, but I just can't select it still.
Update: still not working after disabling all other input methods besides the standard keyboard. will have to try something else...or give up...

do you have password setup for your device? if not, it is worthy of trying setup a password for your device. someone fixed this issue by this approach.

Nope. Dead end. I'm actually running BBConnect, so there's an override of the windows password with the new BBSecurity. It actually crashed my phone again. I'm restoring back to normal and throwing in the towel for tonight.
Thanks for your help anyways!

Hi
Did you soft reset after installing TouchPal? When I first install, I can't select it as well. After uninstalling it, I reinstall again and did a soft reset. And now it works well.

don't work on my p3600. when i try to select touchpal as a imput it set to normal keyboard. i soft reset , uninstall , reinstall , nothing... it don't work to me... any solution?

i have a trinity. i definitely tried the uninstall and soft reset but it didnt work. it's really strange since tengo, phonepad and fingertouch all installed no problem!

It's really wierd.. How come for some no prob, for the others failed??

did you guys try the stuff in the following link:

Not sure it works or not

Although I can select TouchPal after my installation, this morning I also experienced bring it back on (cos I select Phonepad after my last reset). I have experience difficulty in the SMS. So what I did is went to Contact and select TouchPal there, and managed to get it working. Then when I went back to SMS, TouchPal is still working there. Try it see whether this works for you guys.

Hmm...that's an interesting tactic. When I think back, I remember actually having to set the other SIPs as the default first to get it working.
Do you have G4 SIP Hide on your trinity? I needed to install it to make Phonepad work, and wonder if that could be causing an issue with Touchpal (not likely, but who knows...)

How about with pocketCM?
Anyone having any luck sending sms with pocketCM? I got the SIP input to work but cannot "send" from pocketCM.
Very nice SIP though...

Select input method is really slow ?

Hi all
Hope you all had a great christmas
Okay, back to my question ... when you tap on the input method selection arrow at the bottom of your screen, does it take like forever ... okay, not forever, but more like 6-8 seconds ... for the popup menu to appear and let you select type of input method to use ?
Is there a way to speed this up ?
Takes forever here too. I did use Tweak2k2 to hide some SIPs I never use, plus I have Calligrapher installed.
If you've installed too many sips and uninstalled them....basically messed around with the SIPs (installing and uninstalling)....the registry gets messed up. This makes wm5 to keep thinking and looking for certain dlls until it gives up...
the only way is, do a cleanup (hard reset) and install only the ones you need and are sure of sticking with it until the next hard reset
cheers!

Do you have Voice Command installed? If you do, that will slow down the SIP selection.

Wonder if it's a WM5 thing because I noticed it on my Wizard and now on my Magician II and just assumed that it was due to the 200Mhz processor. If you're seeing in on a Universal then I guess it can't be a processor thing. It is BLOODY annoying as I only ever use Letter Recogniser and very occasionally the Keyboard, but for some reason it keeps defaulting to the keyboard, particularly aftr the (all too frequent in WM5) soft reset.

Indeed, it is bloody annoying ... I don't see how popping up a menu of available input methods can take that long. It's not like we're asking it to load all the input methods, we just wanna see the list of available methods.
I am also facing the same problem of defaulting to keyboard after a soft reset

I have a qtek 9000 running on the stock rom. My sip opens up almost instantaneously.
Before which, I had the same issue when I was beta testing calligrapher on another device running wm5. It apparently was a problem with one of the beta builds of calligrapher which they claim to have fixed in their final release...however, I've never installed the final release on my universal. So if you have CG installed, try not to install after a hard reset (Last time i had this issue, i had to hard reset...that was the only way out)

HELP!! Can't switch SIP on device!

I've posted this before but received no help, so I'm trying it again. I'm trying to install a third-party SIP on my device to replace the default Keyboard, but every time I choose it the device goes right back to Keyboard instead. I can switch to the other default SIP that came with the device, but not to the third-party one.
I have a Cingular 8125 running Molski AKU3.3

I already have PCM Keyboard installed (that's the third-party SIP I'm trying to use) but I didn't have the SIPChange installed before. However, I still can't get it to switch. Even using SIPChange, the default goes back to Keyboard every time. Do I have a registry problem of some sort?
So I found this link http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other and started playing around with the registry .. and I messed it up. I managed to switch the default SIP, but when I tried a different one my device will not boot up anymore. It's stuck on a white screen and won't go any further. Anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: Well, I went ahead and wiped off the phone and now I have a fresh ROM on my hands. I lost a lot of info, but I'm happy my phone works again. So after the restore, the SIPChanger worked .. and now all is good.

Thanks for the hint, but I already tried SIP Change and it crashes every time my device (re)boot
Eh? Works absolutely fine on my device.
Take a look at some of the other software or keyboards you have loaded up. The problem may lie there. Also ensure Sip Changer to the phone memory if you can.

Can confirm that the SIP change app works without issues...after a couple of crashes to start with. Try the software got st least a day or two before giving up...

Swype Error :/

I ve tried both 3.09 and 2.00 versions on my 1.61 stock HD2 , but both getting "Open of EnglishUS" failed error
Is Swype not compatible with this rom? What am I doing wrong?!
It isn't compatible. If you want this feature, you'll have to:
1) buy an HD2 that has it in the ROM already.
or
2) flash to a ROM that contains it in order for it to work properly.
I did so, largely for this reason, and although many have complained about its function, particularly on secondary/long press keys, I have not had much difficulty with it, although I have seen the issue and have worked my way around it when it presents, because I find the software an absolutely indispensable feature for the way I use my phone every day.

I've noticed that it seems to happen in specific contexts, and that in general, if I can keep my finger dead steady during the long press, it won't have a problem reading the long press about 95% of the time. Long press "?"/M seems to always work at the end of sentences, at least for me, for example, so I think there is some context issues related to this.
I also tried deleting the Swype User data files and it seemed to help. Not sure why, or if it was real or imagined, but the issue was less common after doing so.
I can't do without it in my HD2, so I'll live with it the way it is, because even with these issues, I don't mind it.

Hi Donal,
Do you have a download link for the OzROM you have mentioned in your sig? I assume that installing it will wipe phone memory/data? I'm only asking as I have a problem with Swype, with it often causing the 'keyboard button' to become inoperable, I'm wondering if it's a problem with my Rom, as I only have the old 'out of the box' one, 1.43 or so I think.
I just reinstalled the Omnia2 versin of swype.
I somehow prefer that version..more used to it and it doesn't have that secondary key problem...

Tap them out once and Swype should add them to its database. You should be able to slide them out thereafter.

Don't mislead people by offering advice when you don't know what you're on about.
There is no connection between the Swype CABs and the ROMs. It should all work.
Now, that error isn't uncommon, I've had it myself. Unless you get the error after installing the Swype HTC skin found on XDA, you can fix the error merely by uninstalling Swype and reinstalling using the CAB. Select the Swype keyboard to make sure it works and then do a soft reset.
I've used both the Omnia II and T-Mo HD2 Swype CABs on a variety of phones with a variety of ROMs and it all works. Currently using the HD2 CAB on official 1.66 WWE ROM and it works well.

Yes indeedy.
I have used both versions of swype, Omnia 2 and 3.9. I find 3.9 more pleasing to the eye. The buttons are bigger and the letters are bigger. Yes its a little harder to press and hold to get the numbers but it works everytime for me. Seems that the touch points are smaller.
But when installing both versions I lost email settings and wifi settings. The wep password disappears for the router and my smtp and pop settings disappear for emails. I have switched back and fourth and both versions cause the same issues. But so does pulling the battery when to do a reset. So it seems to be more of an HTC issue and not a swype issue.
I have heard others saying about the 3.9 and lock password being changed. I have a feeling swype 2.0 does the same thing. Might be linked to the other problems.

Please help me to Fix Hardware Keyboard keys A,S,D,F...

Hi Communiteee...
I have just started tweaking my TP2 and for some reason the above mentioned keys die on me...
I initially thought it was the "Classic Word Completion" cab but I do not have this installed and this AM it died again
If I hard reset with the internal storage it does not fix the problem BUT when HR with the Hardware keys it Does
Is there a way to check in the registry if these are still mapped correctly please.
The path would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

If you loaded on a new rom then you probably have to find and install the keyboard fix for whatever version of your phone you have. Look in the thread you downloaded the rom from and you'll likely find it in there.
That said.. if you havnt installed a rom and your keys randomly stopped working I would still try a keyboard fix. You can do a search in the rom subforum for them.
Good luck

Thnx!
Bad Boi,
You mentioned your keyboard was replaced by htc already. I would send it back. If a hard reset doesnt fix the prob then I would say its a hardware prob. Maybe I missunderstood you but a hard reset puts the registry back to stock. You may have a bad flash and need to try to reflash the upgrade. Also, every cab or reg edits I did to get back the good old predictive text/word completion, it would always mess up my soft keyboard not the hard one. I have found that if you install HDTweak and enable the T9 option it will give you the predictive text back. You can even adjust how many words it suggests. Dont forget to turn off xt9 on your device. It works like a charm. If you need a good keyboard remapper I use Tarkim keyboard controller. I have to do almost my entire keyboard cause there isnt a 100 % fix for the Tilt 2. Here are links for the programs I mentioned. I hope this helps.

I have reflased stock upgraded ROM and the problem still pops up now and then - with or without tweaks added...
I have the Clasic Word Completion from PPC Geeks (Similar to Vogue Stock) for my TP2 and that works without any problems and no remapping required...
For the time being the ASDF is working - I will Flash the new ROM if the keys lock up again just to make sure if its hardware or not...
FYI
The way I get the predictive text working doesnt require any key mapping. The key remapper was for you to reassign the keys that arent working to see if that solves the problem. Sorry if I wasnt clear about that. If your problem persists try using the hd tweak method to see if that takes care of it. There are a lot off options in that program that you might like as well to tweak your phone. Take care and good luck.
Dave
