Trinity WM6 revisited - for dummies! - P3600 General

Hi everyone,
WM6 for trinity is spread out into many different topics on this forum, with complex discussions, many complaints, bug discussions, etc. So it's difficult to find your way around!
The purpose of this topic is very simple: WM6 for Trinity for dummies!
I'm not a tech savy, just a Trinity power user, so the purpose of this topic is to summarize everything and ¨PLEASE - KEEP IT SIMPLE, and EXPLAIN CLEARLY, for DUMMIES
So, here are my questions:
1. Which is the latest and DECENTLY working WM6 version for Trinity, including GPS activated, and including one touch user interface? (or do you install GPS activation separatly? mine's already activated in WM5, do I have do do something else to have it in WM6?) Please provide links for downloads.
2. My Trinity is a French one, does this mean I have to install a French WM6, or can I have an english one?
3. Can I go back to WM5 if I don't like WM6? (obviously I'll like it, but will my software work - that's to be seen)
4. What do I need to be careful about when flashing to WM6?
5. What else should the DUMMY know to avoid screwing up his Trinity?
Thanks!

i'm not mr knowledge, but i'll try to answer..
btw. this should be in the trinity WM6 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
1) too many roms to choose from.. personally i like Indigo, but you have ax3l, pdaviet, mary etc.. try 'em out and pick the one you prefer.
2) shouldn't be any problem flashing any language.. i have flashed several norwegian trinity's to english, and have not had any problems.
3) yes
4) just make sure you flash a rom designed for your device. (for example a trinity rom on a trinity device, hermes rom on hermes etc) and that the rom is from a reliable source (like here)
5) read, read and read some more.. be familliar with what you are doing..
a good place to start is http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity and the rest of the forums
and if all else fails.. google it

New to Hermes- ex-wizard!

Hi all!
Allow me to introduce myself, i am, the duke! my windows mobile history is as follows:
SPV E200, SPV C500, i-mate SP3i, Vodafone V1240, Himalaya, Charmer, Magician, Wizard and now.......HERMES! finally!lol
needless to say i am not new to rom flashing, and indeed have also cooked a few roms in my time.
i have a few questions here to which i hope i will get helpful answers and not just some smart-alec telling me to read the wiki! i am in the process of reading the wiki!
This is my first device that uses the newer 'NBH' files opposed to the old NBF's and tornado bootloader.
And there is clearly a few ways to flash, and what appears to me to be the best is using the 'HERMIMG.nbh' file on storage card technique.
my questions are as follows:
1) Which is the QUICKEST and most stable WM6 rom
2) After CID-Unlocking is it worth flashing Hard-SPL?
3) what rom do you reccomend and why?
this is all, please, no smart-arse comments! at the moment i am using the TNT5.0 rom on my wizard
many thanks
Fastest ROM
1.) I always found LVSW ROMs to be the most stable, always deployed without faults. As for the fastest, personally (as a basic users and abuser of a phone), I never found one to be vastly faster than another. Especially WM6 ROMs.
2.) Huh, never even crossed my mind not to.
3.) I'm back to WM5 Original T-Mobile shipped I'm afraid, I braved Schapps and vp3g ROMs (liked them both I must say), but I just had issues that forced me back...
Duke,
1) Not tried all the others on her but Schaps 354c lite is pretty quick.
2) Hard SPL = Always. Safe bet for Tytn Rom burning.
3) Schaps 354c full. Has everything I need and is incredibly stable, which was a key criterion for me. Plus Schaps himself has a Tytn so I was happy to use the Rom knowing he had built and tested it on my device type before throwing it out there.
So when are you going to start cooking then?
WB
My opinion
my Answers are as follows:
I found that the best stable ROM is Schap's 3.54C & 3.6A
Yes you have to do that to prevent bricking your device
I tried several ROMS the best I found in my opinion is Schap's it is a fast rom with an elegant interface I've been using it for more than a month with no problems at all, there are several roms I've tried like TNT2 and Cyphol which is really based majority on Schap's.
If you need any further assistance please PM me. happy flashing.............................

Checklist/upgrade guide to WM6/Custom Roms.

First a hello, since i am new to this forum, but very much impressed with everyones effort to pull as much out of these devices and software as possible.
I have been reading a lot about upgrading, flashing, bricks, problems, etc. This to increase my knowledge of what is and what can be. So, now i am thinking about upgrading my htc 3300 to WM6 and have a few questions i can not really find a direct answer for. I was looking for a all in one post or a recent update guide, but couldn't find one. Perhaps this can help others aswell.
Here we go:
A rom is like an image of the OS with certain applications included. You can flash this to your device overwriting the current OS and all of its applications? Does this mean anything i have installed like TT will be removed and i need to reinstall this?
USPL needs to be run first for all custom roms, but not for official HTC ones, then again it can't hurt to run it anyways? Does it leave any permanent changes?
Running USPL or upgrading to WM6 official or cooked has an effect on warrenty?
Are Custom WM6 roms or Official WM6, the real thing. As in it gives all the new functionality (*ahum*) that WM6 is supposed to or are the custom roms a 'simulation' to the real thing? Even if i read that the official wm6 doesnt have much to offer, will it increase performance or slow down things? Is there some post with all possible roms, custom included, like Mark, Meschle's, HTC, vanilla...
If TT is currently installed (pre installed actually), how can i reinstall this program or any maps if i happen to remove this. Is there a key somewhere i need to write down, can i make a backup copy/image so i can always put it back?
There are probably millions of questions more, but these are the ones going through my mind now. I am just somewhat cautious about changing anything to my new device, yet i really want the WM6 instead of WM5.
I hope some of you are willing to answer my questions or will i get a 'use the search function', cause trust me i have, there is just too much and its too much dispersed (sp?)

yes you need to reinstall all your personal applications, and you will loose all the PIM's data as well
USPL needs to be run first for all custom roms, but not for official HTC ones, then again it can't hurt to run it anyways? Does it leave any permanent changes?
It does not leave any permanent changes, once you upgrade to new ROM it will return your mobile to notmal locked status.
Running USPL or upgrading to WM6 official or cooked has an effect on warrenty? some official distributor may cancel tha warranty if you upgrade to your own ROM.

if you have backup program you better backup all the licensed softwares keys, because it will delete all preinstalled software.

Key differences and ROM

I will be buying my Touch Cruise next week and have read that one of the first things I should do is update the ROM. It appears that the 2 most popular ones are: WM6.1 by BEBE and the Aserg rom.
From what I can see as a total beginner is that the Bebe has TomTom installed in the permeium edition and the Aserg rom does not have it. Can I install TomTom (comes with the Touch cruise I believe), after I update the ROM?
What are the big differences in terms of speed and functionality between the ROMs?
yes you can load TomTom on any ROM that doesnt have it already installed. The TC has the Built in Hardware to communicate with the software reguardless of the ROM.
Secondly the ROM that you use is usually personal preference. Most Roms have different features and software installed and some perform better than others depending on how much software comes loaded in them. You will probably end up flashing a few different ones before you decide which is best for you.
There is 1 more alternative. If you cannot find one to your liking there are plenty of threads here to which you can cook your own custom ROM.
Hope this helps... feel free to ask as much as needed... we are here to help!

Are most Roms compatible....

I read alot in this forum but, I haven't seen if most of the Cooked Roms in here are compatible with all the different "touch" phones out there. I have a new/used ppc it is the Hermes or Cingular 8525 and I like some of the Roms for the Wizard. Thus the Question, are the roms compatible with other phones or only the phone in that particular Phone Forum?
No, you must use a rom that is designed (either cooked or OEM) for your specific device.
Ok, that's what I needed to know.
Thank you very much!
If you see a wizard rom you like look in the hermes section for that same chef. Most of us cook similiar Roms for each device we have.

Queries on Cooked ROM

Hi,
I have just gone through the beginners guide and I have couple of queries.
1. I am having WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC for my HTC Touch Diamond2 and I am planning to go for cooked ROM. If anything goes wrong with Cooked ROM, Can I able to install again the WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC?
2. Whether cooked ROM have all the applications as which came from original ROM or some of application might not available in cooked ROM?
3. Mainly are we going for Cooked ROM only for look and feel and performance or anyother benefits are there like some extra built-in applications like that..?
4. How can we make sure whether particulat Cooked ROM will fit to our device. For example all the ccoked ROM in "Topaz ROM development" will fit for HTC Touch Diamond2?
Sorry for making so much questions, because it's better to prevent than cure.
and I am very much interested with the cooked ROM. thanks.
Hi, let me try to answer based on my exprerience:
1. Once you have installed Olinex HardSPL1.83 (which is simply NECESSARY), you'll be able to flash ANY ROM of ANY country, cooked or official. Just remember to re-lock the phone (see HardSPL thread) and put an official ROM back if you ever need to send the device back for assistance covered by warranty.
2. Generally, some really useless apps are removed in order to get more free memory but they still are available around , if someone really misses them.
3. Cooked ROMs main advantage is that they have updated apps, less bugs and, as you said, more speed and stability. Cooks generally tend to leave a maximum space available so that single users decide how to use it, but I guess it's also for copyright reasons that no extra apps are added. There are exceptions..for example my ROM contains a very cool app (ported from another HTC device) that allows my phone to act like a WiFi Acces Point, which wasn't there in the official build..Anyway when a ROM is published, cooks always make a list of what was removed, added or updated.
4. Only ROMs listed in their relative phone threads will work. If you own a Touch Diamond 2 (aka Topaz), Topaz forum is the place where you will find working ROMs for it.
Ciao!
thanks for kind reply, sualc.
