MDA Compact II - doesn't recognize sim card - MDA Compact II General

Hello, I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact II with WM5 which worked fine for quite some time. A few days back the device suddenly switched off during navigation (don't think it was the battery) and after switching it on again it told me that the sim card is not inserted or invalid.
Help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & cu
wf

Try pressing the sim card a little. Maybe put something between the sim card and the battery. See if it helps.

hello vlodeck,
thanks for the suggestion.... I've tried it but with no luck. I'm still getting 'sim card is missing' when tuning on the phone :-(
cu
wf

hard reset or just go repair the phone

I have the same problem

Since the case of the broken one was like brand new i baught another mda compact II from ebay and changed the main boards over, now it works perfectly (cross fingers, touch wood), the shop told me that it was complicated to take the main board out and change it, so here is me, a laptop and pc tech, i took it apart and had it back together within 15 mins and iv never touched a pda before, so quite happy with myself anyway i hope this mainboard doesnt break like the other, thanks.

Can I duplicate a sim card?

I love my wizard, but sometimes I want to take something smaller with me. I have another cellphone, but I don't want to have to pull them apart and switch the sims every time I swap them. Is there anything out there that will make an exact copy of a sim card so i could keep one in both of them and then just turn off one when I'm not using it?

they do that here in Bulgaria, but you have to be VEERY careful to switch off the unused one..
I know it is a lenghty process and takes a day to clone the card
guttrhead: what country are you in?
Have a search on the board for multi sims or clone sims.
Basically, in Western Europe, you're unlikely to have much success due to the encryption system used in the SIM.
V
Most providers here in europe offer DUO SIM solutions, where they provide you with a second sim with your telephone number so you can put that in a second phone or a car system. Most of them only charge a small one-time fee for it.
Of cource only one of the SIM's can be active.
Cheers
Cactus
I'm in the US on cingular. I'm thinking about just buying something like this from ebay. If it doesn't work, at least I could use the sim utilities it has, considering the wizard doesnt really have any.
guttrhead: as le_cactus says, if you can get a 2nd sim, get one.
However, cloning a sim requires cracking its protection. In this country at least, that can be destructive to the sim, and even then, not successful.
I've posted a number of posts on this issue. But I have no experience with US sims...

Multi SIM Cards avalible here in Thailand as well. Switch by *100# from Phone to Phone (up to 4 phones. Check with your provider!
I've just ordered one of these super sims. Looks like the donkey's dangler, then I can keep my wizard and universal on the go and switch as desired.
If it works of course...
I have a similar card reader + card... from another copmpany...
It works fine with portuguese cards... I have it for 2 years now...
As naugthy said, it really takes quite a few hours to read(crack) the original... just depends on how fast is your computer... mine took about 8-10 hours per card (2 years ago...)...
But they also warn that cracking the card *may* be destructive for the card... But if it happens, you can try to contact you network provider and ask for a replacement because it «just stopped working»... or something...
Cloner on ebay
It looks good .... but does it allow you to use your telephone service? Reading the details on the advert it seems to me that it only copies the data from your sim but mentions nothing about using it for calls/GPRS/GSM etc.
If it works let us know. I am a bit wary about swapping my sim between my MDA Pro and 6515 and this gadget looks an ideal solution if it really does work (I have my doubts :? ).
I will report back. And out of geek interest, I will be doing the cracking on an AMD FX55 processor with 4Gb of dual channel RAM, so I will time the cracking process.

The kit I have has a card reader/writer and copying software. You need to copy/crack the sim card and save it into a file in your disk. You do this for the sims you want to copy (I have 2 cards, one for each network).
After that, you copy these files into the multi-card using the same software, and you're ready to use it.
It works perfectly for calls, gprs, gsm... In the SIM apllications area I have an extra app that enables me to switch between cards.
The card I own (not the one that was posted) only has one problem: it cannot have a PIN.
Can i just get another cingular sim and load the settings onto it, or does it have to be the super sim that comes with it.

It has to be the superSIM that comes with it...
At first I thought I'd wait for someone else to try the super-sim. Now I am regretting changing my mind.
No problem with the order - nice and quick. Super-Sim, USB sim reader, Installation CD and instruction card in a neat bubble pack. The instructions were not very clear to me (poor translation?) and contained warnings that some sims were not compatible and the copying process may destroy them. The instructions on the CD were a little clearer so I decided to take a chance.
Tried it with the T-Mobile sim from my MDA Pro. 3 Hours later it told me it wasn't going to work. Same for the o2 sim from my XDA2.
Both sims still appear to be working but as I understand it, the more cycles of trying to 'crack' the sims, the more chance of destroying them. This makes me reluctant to try again with different settings.
Sorry if I seem a bit vague but I didn't really know what I was doing. I could have done with better instructions.
Anyone know a little more about this please?

Very strange GSM problem

Using O2 Exec.
Device working perfect like PDA with GPRS & SMS functions but then I try to call it's loss signal. After "call ending" it's fidn signal again.
Already undergo to install diferent versions of ROMs & RADIO. Try to unlock to make sure that phon not locked.
Somebody HELP!!!
PS. Then SIM installed & I turn flymode I can't off it but then SIM is not installed switching performing without any problems.
PSS. sorry for english
Have you tried ...:
a) a SIM by the same provider
b) another provider's SIM
Make sure that your SIM also works in another phone. It may be unlikely that your current SIM could be the problem.
I have also a strange problem when i send an SMS larger than 300 characters it spends me money but it doesnt send it !

SIM from another cell operator, but it's of course working.
Then it might be a good idea to have your SIM replaced.

All SIMs work on another phones.
Have you tried reinstalling the ROM that worked in the 1st place? Otherwise you'll have to consider taking to a shop.

I am having the same problems. I even had T-Mob send me a new phone with the same result. Did you ever find a solution?
I am also having same problem, the agency informed me that there is a damage in the internal board and it cannot be fixed. this is rediculous...

bull****!
i sent my pda for repairs (to fix a different problem) and after two weeks they came up with the same answer,
but a day after i got my pda back, i changed batteries and found out it was a battery problem, and not a board problem!
thats a few hundred bucks of differens!
they seem to find it as a "default" answer, instead of saying "we don't have a clue what the hell's wrong".

Is my O2 XDA EXEC dead?

I bought an XDA EXEC on Ebay as 'spare or repair' which had a damaged screen which I replaced with my M5000 screen.
I unlocked it with Buzz's unlocker which worked fine. I tried my Vodafone sim which had no service so I then tried an O2 sim which had the same problem no service.
I have tried countless Radio ROMs and still the same.
I am now using Tomal's - v8.2: WM6.1 Pro
Rom version D.08.20 TML WWE
Radio version 1.09
Protocol version 42.42.P8
I have also rolled back to the original O2 XDA EXEC ROM but have the same issue with no service.
Could this be an antenna issue? or is it just dead?
Any help would be great. Thanks.
When I soft reset my uni next to my daughters baby monitor I can hear the uni searching for a signal through the baby monitor and then I get the no service again. Not sure if this would help any of you identify my problem?
Could be antenna. Blacklisted, perhaps?
do you have active service on the sims that you are putting in?

I phoned O2 last week to see if it was blocked? But the bloke I spoke to wasn't interested and basically told me my uni is dead without checking to see if it was blocked, I might attempt to ring again later?
How could I find out if the antenna is not working?
Is there a link on this site that has a picture of the inside of uni so I know what I am looking for if I was to change the antenna?
Thanks for your reply.

When you open your Uni, the antenna is a large white plastic part attached to the mainboard by 3 screws and housing your camera lens and flash.
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...1306605&imageID=29054213#a=1306605&i=29054213
On the pic you can see the Uni on the left with large white antenna visible. Make sure it connects to the mainboard underneath, there should be metallic prongs that should be touching the contacts on the board. When re-assembling, make sure the copper foil is attached the way it was, don't forget the flash connector position, if you reverse it, the flash will not work.

There is a website (I don't remember the URL now) where you can feed your IMEI number and it says if the phone was blacklisted. Google for it.
Edit: The website now does it for a fee (£1.99) but I've found this link that could be useful for IMEI check: http://forum.whatmobile.net/showthread.php?t=38259

I used a site a week ago that checks your IMEI for free which came back with UNBLOCKED but as a read somewhere on this site that someone tried the same site which said theres was UNBLOCKED when it was actually blocked.
So I'm not to sure about that site anymore???
I have replaced the antenna which made no change? But did find that my old uni dident work due to screw on antenna snapped off which is a bit annoying!!
Still need to phone O2 but its Sunday so that will be tomorrow now!
Ok I have phoned O2 for them to tell me the uni is blacklisted as far back as two years ago and can never be used again so its as good as dead? unless theres away of replacing a part inside with my old M5000 which will bring it back to life???
If this can be sorted then I will be a happy man again!!!
For your Uni to work, it needs a new mainboard. It is unclear from your previous post whether your M5000 works now, but if it doesn't, I say replacing the mainboard will not do a single bit of difference.

Thats a shame! My M5000 wouldn't switch back on after a ROM install failed which I took battery out thinking Sim was still in uni which it wasn't and never switched back on afterwards and PC would not recognise device.

Faulty diamond 2?

Hi
I have just bought a diamond 2.
I have put my SIM card in and when I switch the phone on it comes up saying the SIM is missing. I have tried cleaning the SIM and re-inserting and even padding out with some paper. Unfortunately none of this has worked and the phone remains just as useless to me.
Apparently it is SIM-locked to O2, I am using a working O2 SIM. Does this mean that it might be SIM-locked to someother network or is it a hardware fault or could it be something else?
I have tried plenty of searching but that has yielded nothing so far.
Thanks for any answers
Jim
Hi
Have you bought this second hand? Perhaps it is locked for contract use and you are using Pay As You Go? It might also have been reported stolen and deactivated.
Do you know the SIM works, have you tried it in another phone?
Options are, try another O2 SIM, if that doesn't work contact O2 and ask them to check it, they might be able to tell you why the phone isn't accepted on their network. Alternatively contact the seller maybe?
If it is new of course take it back to the O2 shop and get them to check it, it could well be faulty.
Regards
Phil
Thanks for your response Phil
I have tried 2 different working O2 SIM's in the phone and they both don't work.
I'm thinking that because its saying SIM is missing it is not seeing the SIM as opposed to it being SIM-locked.
I have contacted the seller and he insists that it worked fine on O2.
I am really dissapointed as I was really looking forward to using this phone
I had exactly the same when I first powered up my TD2 - and I know my SIM worked.....
I found that I cleaned the sim by running on my t-shirt (obvious) - and then reinserted - with the same problem....
Then I pushed the card hard in both lateral and vertical directions - push the end of the sim towards the edge of the phone and then push down on the sim - it didnt even look like it moved to me - but when I put the battery back in - presto it worked.....
I'll give that a try, thanks
no joy with that.
Thankfully the seller has offered me a refund, just need to buy another one sharpish

SD card not showing

hi, i recieved my new hd mini this morning and decided to reformat my SD card from my nokia and use it in the mini, but for some reason the card isnt showing at all in the file explorer or in the format card bit of the tools menu, any ideas why this could be?
Reboot the device If that doesn't help, replace the card. If that doesn't help neither, format the card in you PC and try again. Maybe you'd update your ROM to the newest version too?
right ive updated to the latest rom from htc restarted the phone and tried a brand new 16Gb SDHC card and its still the same, but using the sd cards in my nokia they work fine, any ideas lol or am i gonna have to get this sorted at a shop under warrenty
I think warranty is the best way to go.
HTC's share of defective products is quite high. From experience.
would i be able to take my phone to a vodafone store as the phone is one on their network or would i have to speak to the 3rd party company i got the phone through, or just go to my local carphone warehouse

If your phone is Vodafone branded, you can bring it to a Vodafone shop. But you'd bring it to the shop where you bought it That's the normal way here
