no idea as to the charging issue... if you plug it in and the green blinking light changes to a steady orange, it should be charging. If you plug it into a USB port connected to your computer it charges super slow, a wall charger is better. It won't charge? or it won't hold a charge? Perhaps you need a new battery
As for the overclocking and good programs and everything, you might want to spend a few hours in your spare time just reading past threads, and using Search! Actually I'm not sure if search works, but google does... go to google and use search term like...
site:http://forum.xda-developers.com wizard overclock
the site: part is essential, it means google will only search for results on that website.
(the overclocking program is omapclock or something but it's better to read the posts to discover more about it)

well i have been reading stuff all over the place. the best one that i can find seems to be this one:
http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/843374-1.html
but i wanted some input from people who have actually used some of these.

My guess is it would be easier to by an external battery charger and whip the battery out to charge it something like this i guess?

As for overclocking try searching for an app called battery status. Can't remember which version is best for wizard overclocking but should be easy enough to find.

thanks for the info man, i bought this;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120152590410&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=002
cause i can charge the battery on the back while i sync the phone, but (and remember this is my first phone like this) i was told that if i take out the battery, or it dies that i will lose all my memory on the phone.

I'm thinking your mini usb connector on the phone is faulty. Does it sync?

he says it does, i dont know yet the phone gets here in the morning if usps doesnt suck today... so it might be here wednesday

I can safely say i know sod all about usb connections but the one on my old wizard started playing up (wouldn't charge and wouldn't sync).
By pure coincidence after leaving it in a drawer with about 40% battery for a couple of weeks i thought i'd see about fixing it got it out and it just worked (from usb and mains charger) so i didnt need to tinker with it at all
Good luck

anyone else?

anyone? any advise at all?

Are you talking about the battery not charging when you are at home? If so, it's possible you could have the wrong charger. You can find this out by charging the battery from the USB cable to a PC. I've attached the new version of battery status for the overclocking and other options. I would suggest you search first in the future for any other issues that may arise. Search Forum

That's "horse hockey". You'll lose only data that has not already been saved in memory. When you hard re-set the device is when all data will be lost if it's not backed up on a computer, and not by removing or your battery being drained....

MDA is dead I think....Please read and help

I was in San Diego for a week, used my phone, flew back to baltimore, got out the air port made a couple of phone calls, got in the car and got home. When I took my phone out of the pocket to call someone, my phone wouldn't power on. I plugged the charger in, nothing's happening. No led lights, no charging. I plugged it in for an hour and still nothing. I tried the USB cable with the black and red wires trick, still nothing.
I don't know why my phone's dead.....
Did anyone else experience a problem like this?
is this fixable? anyone know how to fix it? Anyone willing to fix it for me?
thank you, I just really want to get my phone back..
Your Battery is probably completely dead and unfortunately a lot of time on wizards the battery won't charge again until you give it a little juice to get it going. There's 2 ways of doing that, one is with a 9v battery and the other involves hacking up a mini USB cord. I've explained the 9v battery one twice this week already and I've seen the USB one on here at least twice this week also so I'm going to let you do a little searching for them.
Here, I decided to be nice and find one of my posts for you that explains how to do the 9v method. Check out post #9 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321375

hey thansk, but I did mention i tried the usb thing, and my gf has a 8125 so i tried her battery which was full and it still didn't do anything.
I'm going to try the 9v battery method..
thanks for your reply.
no one has any idea?
If you tried with a fully loaded battery from the wizrad of your gf and it still did not work then there might be more than just an empty battery.
Did you try to get into bootloader mode or do a hard reset using other battery?

is the bootloader mode when u press the right side buttons? if so yes I did try it.
I think I'm going to open up the phone today and try to see if anything is loose in there.
.. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen) ...

To hard-reset you may try more than once ... when I do it sometimes I need to do it several times until the question appears to confirm the hard reset.
hmm, myphone died before to the point where it didnt charge, I recomend giing it a little juice, you can use the 9v battery, what I did is hacked up one of m wall chargers and did it that way, seperate the positive and negative wires then touch it to the + and - on the battery for like 5 seconds. after that just plug the phone in, and you should be good to go. hope it helps.
I tried allthe solutions listed, I think my phone is dead...
thanks for posting solutiosn people

Hermes works without battery?

Hi,
Sorry, this is not a development question per se, but is the Hermes supposed to power on without a battery when plugged in with a wall charger?
I get a red light on the top-right, but the unit doesn't power on. Maybe I have a defective unit. I have the Cingular branded version.
defective unit
yes u have a defective unit.
I suggest you box it back up and take it back to the place you bought it as your to stupid to only this glorious phone.
?
I think you were trying to insult me with your poor grammar?
Yes
You can use the phone without the batter while plugged in. You have to follow these steps exactly...
1. get a a glass of whater.
2. wrap tin foil around your finger.
3. plug in the charger and connect it to the phone. make sure you leave the back of the phone exposed.
4. place your finger with the tin foil on it in the glas of water.
5. touch your tongue to the gold batter contacts on the back of the phone and press the power button.
This method will work..
Good luck.
Sorry man this is not possible. I checked just now coz I never bothered to do it before but today i looked on your question and tested it but nope it is not booting up. Just the red light. So u need the battery to use it.
Some people tries to increase their posts on the forum to become members from junior members. So don't mind and don't become one of them coz you are new to this forum so just be creative and straight. Hope u don't mind if u found my wordings hard.

A good answer - unlike some of our "funny" guys above.
Mike
ok fair point, was just a bit of fun, but why would you want to use the phone without the battery installed and just plugged in?
i believe all mobile phone from htc tend to be able to do this.
Thanks beastfellow
Confirmed. Just tested and neither of my Hermes will start without a battery
all my Hermes work without a battery!
I just plug them in when testing them out or whatever as I don't always want to have the bulk of a battery on them sometimes, and they still boot up and run ok. Must be a lot of faulty Hermes out there.
It shouldn't start without the battery as the battery is an integral part of the device. If anyone's device truly does start without a battery attached -- which I doubt -- there's something wrong with it. Also, I'm not sure why someone would go through all the bother of pulling the battery out only to then plug it in and use it on AC power.
Reading some of the questions here it's become apparent that some people try to do really odd things with this thing only to think something is wrong when it doesn't work as they want it to. It might not be bad advice to read the user's manual to learn about how PDA Phones are supposed to be used, and instead of acting shocked when they don't work outside of those parameters just accepting the device's limitations.
I know we live in postmodern times where everyone has the freedom to define their own realities, but some of you take this a bit too far. There is at least one question a day here where someone is upset or confused by these things not doing what they were never intended to do.
hmmm... it may be based on the charger itself. I haven't tried any of mine yet (will check later today) but I wonder no battery powerup has something to do with using the stock Hermes charger (1Amp) v.s. others

You may be correct. I tried with a USB connection as I was reading the post on the computer. Will try later with the charger at home.
I read somewhere in wiki about fix white boot up screen. One of the ways to fix it was to take out the battery and use the wall charger... However, when i tried it, it didnt work... so i juz hard reset it and it worked =) might be the reason why he is asking about the battery thing... for all the spammer with post counts... lol sad
Tried my 8525 with 1Amp charger & no battery. Got red (not orange) charging indicator and it wouldn't boot. HTH!
heat
the only reason you would want your hermes to boot up with the battery is say for example, you were going to use it as a modem via usb.
we all know that the phone doesnt get hot, the only thing that heats the whole thing up is the battery.
So to get extra life out of your hermes and keep it cooler, run it without a battery!
I would surmise that circuitry in the battery (if the unit got too hot) would reset the phone to prevent the thing fom setting itself on fire.

C500 not starting

i've got my c500 from a friend.
the problem is that it doesn't start at all.
i tried the hard reset method, i tried pressing the camera button and then inserting the usb cable and nothing.
this is my first spv phone so i really dont know the deal with them...
can this phone charge from usb? or do i need a wall socket charger? (i dont have one).
my first real problem is how to start the darn thing the phone worked great a couple of months ago, i dont know what he did to it in this time, but i really want it to work again, so, if anybody has any ideas, i'll be glad to try them out.
thank you for reading.
Is jump starting the battery an option ??
If the Typhoon is anything like the wizard ( 8125 )- sounds like the battery is dead. Unfortunately - dead to the point where it is not strong enough to even start the phone.
There are a few "jump start" options - which I can direct you to, but someone with more knowledge on the typhoon battery will need to respond first.
I am not comfortable giving advise on a model I have little knowledge of. We have an audiovox smt 5600 - but have not really done anything with it, other than update the rom.
If someone can confirm that the procedure is safe - I can copy the post so you can give it a shot.
Yep, sounds like a dead battery to me too. Usually that only means that the phone has to be charged a few hours extra before it wakes up (during the first few hours of charging the phone may not even light up, just leave it plugged in anyway). The phone charges fine over USB, no wall charger required but it takes a little longer.
You can get new batteries off ebay for £5 if it is completely dead.
i dont really know what that means...
this is what i did...
i measured the Volts of the battery with a volt-meter and it showed me that it was dead.
i took a moto e398 and wire-connected the battery to the phone and i left it to charge. it did...i now have some volts in my battery...the problem is that it doesnt start at all!
not even the little led blinks...
i really have no ideas...my friend said that the left soft key doesn't work so good so i'm thinking that the 'right& left soft keys + start button' tehnique wont work so good...
i'll give you all the details you need.. i just need to know if anything can be done to make this baby work again...

Please Help - Tytn won't charge!

hi every1,
i kno theres some very clever guys on this forum as many of my past problems i have been able 2 find fixes for. I hav searched the web but can't find much info on my latest problem and the info i hav found hasnt been very useful.
The problem i have is that a couple of days ago i put my tytn on charge when i returned to hopefully find it fully charged it had totally run out of battery and wouldn't turn on. with a bit of trial and error i managed 2 get it to turn on for a bit when plugged in - looked at the power meter and it said 0%. my first thought was that it must be a battery fault so i bought a new battery but i still can't charge my phone. I've tried it plugged into the mains and also through usb connection to my laptop and both have the same effect.
the problem has really puzzled me because i am able to transfer files through usb but cannot charge the phone. when i plug it in i initially get a red light but that soon turns to flashing amber lights and does not charge - i can turn it on with the new battery but it only has 50% left. i have already resorted to a hard reset and this did not fix my problem.
i would be greatful for any help or comments on my problem as i think its rather unique due to the lack of info on it.
i have an O2 XDA Trion (tytn) and it is running WM6 which i flashed myself but it is the official opperator update.
personally i feel this is a hardware issue, if anyone knows where i can get it repaired then that would be a great help too, i may try to take it back to O2 but i dont think they will be interested as i hav had it for about a year and i am now on orange but using the tytn.
cant wait 2 hear from u, thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
Matt.
Some things to try:
http://michael-channon.spaces.live...._c=BlogPart&partqs=cat=Hermes+Charging+Issues
NB. The rocking the battery on and off the contacts mentioned in the above link, is more of a TyTn II trick but it may work with the Hermes.
Assuming one of the gold battery connector pins onthe Hermes is not disconnected then what you are trying to do with these tricks (to put it crudely) is to reset the charging circuit that seems to have a habit of getting "stuck". Incidentally this is a problem that seems to affect many phones by different manufacturers.
Mike
A perhaps first solution that has worked for me in the past. While it may seem elementary... perhaps the pins on your usb port are dirty. When I had my palm, I pretty much had to clean the bottom pins with a needle almost every time I wanted to sync, since they got a little grimey and didnt make a good connection. Try taking out the battery, and very lightly taking a needle and seeing if there is dirt or grime on the connections. Then blow on the port really hard (even better, use a can of compressed air) and see if that solves it.
Can't hurt to try
-Jotek
in reply to mike
thanks for the suggestion. hav tried these several times and had no joy, my phone does register a battery because the red light goes away when i put the battery in but there is no amber charge light just an amber light that flashes every 2-3 secs. do you kno anything else i could try or do u kno somewhere that may be able 2 fix it if its a hardware issue? thanks. matt.
in reply to jotek
i will try this as i wont do any harm but i cant see it helping much as i am able to transfer files accross usb no problem so i dont think theres any problem with the connection. thanks for the suggestion though. wish i knew more about how the phone works lol.
all ok now
just to let people know, i wasn't able to find anyway of getting it to charge again so have taken it back to O2 and was supprised to find it was still under manufacturers warranty so thay have sent it off for repair free of charge can take up to 2 weeks they said - what's the bets that its longer than that
Thanks for the previous suggestions
You mean your PC can read your phone, but your phone's battery cannot be charged somehow. Even the power is left 50 percent, you still cannot start your phone? It is strange. Have you try use the charger connect to your phone? Maybe there is something wrong whit a component about the pover switch.

No life from 8525

Hi everyone, I am in a bit frustrated. I did some reading and pretty much it goes like this, I had a road trip this weekend and wasn't able to charge my phone correctly (I used a TomTom car charger) everthing was fine. The phone was working, till I received a call (battery said 50%) and in the middle of the call it died (no battery warning nothing). I couldn't connect the phone at that time because the person I was traveling with decided I didn't need my phone and they needed theirs. so I let it go and tried to connect it when I got home. Nothing when I got home, the LED on the connector is lit, but the phone responds to nothing. Not with the battery out or in while connected. If the phone is dead, is it repairable? or should I just start looking for a new phone?
Well, looks like your battery did not survive your TomTom charger!
If you have the possibility: go to an AT&T store and see if they can give you a battery for testing purposes. Or, if you know someone nearby with a 8525, ask him to shortly put his battery in your device. If your phone works with that battery, simply go to eBay or elsewhere and buy yourself a new battery!
I appreciate the laugh junner, I am thinking the same. AT&T are a bunch idiots the first guy said that's not a phone they carry (nor did they ever, silly when it says at&t on it). so a batteries plus or ebay is in my near future. still trying to find a person at my job with a 8525.
ok new battery and its dead. so my question now is can I wipe my device in anyway before I try to sell it?
Did you try to recharge without the battery? I ask this because if you get a red light then it may not be dead...
Mike Channon has a site to go to for things of this nature or give him a pm as I'm pretty sure he said that sometimes the part of the phone responsible for charging sort of goes to sleep and needs to be shocked back to life but can't for the life of me remember where I read it. He may be able to tell you how to fix so you don't have to sell...
Just a thought...
Cheers...
