Thinking of buying an x7501 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

I'm thinking of replacing my cingular 8525 with a 7501, but I'm worried about a few things. Can someone that has one help me out?
I'm concerned that lots of apps designed for other devices won't run. Especially ones that are setup for the rectangular qvga screen. Is that an issue?
I run lots of apps and just want to be sure that they will work. I also install a lot of games to pass idle time when i travel. Anyone had any issue with games?
Is there any use for the front camera with cingular/AT&T?
How good is the built in GPS? I'm used to using a bluetooth gps with my 8525 and Tom Tom 5. That has a sirfstar 3 chipset and works really well.

Most current WM5/6 apps support the Advantage's display. There may be some apps that haven't been updated (in years) for WM5/6 that might not be compatible, but everything I have works on my X7501 now.

I've only had an issue with one game - Absolutist's Bubble Shooter. But that's been fixed with the latest v1.19 version.

Not right now, and not sure if there'll ever be.

The GPS is good, but can take a few minutes to get a lock after a soft-reset.

The 7501 does not have the front camera. Only the back 3 mp camera. The 7500 is the model with the front camera as well, but as noted in various places, there is apparently no VOIP video calling in the US to make use of it anyway.
I've just spent two days loading tons of software on my new 7501, both old and new, and have had no problems with even some of my ancient stuff. It'll probably depend on what specifically you've got, however.

On the App side, most common apps are updated to WM5/6 and look good on the 640x480 (480x640) screen.
Games is another story. All the games I have on my device work great but probably 75% of the games aren't made for VGA and look grainy. Just make sure it is VGA Native "Full Screen".
As sad as it is there are more QVGA devices out there then VGA. Thankfully the apps are in VGA and look beautifully bright and vibrant.

FWIW -- I had a TyTN and then a Cingular 8525 when I purchased my Advantage x7500. I purchased it out of curiosity, never expecting I'd end up using such a large device (compared to the Hermes). Fell in love with it and just sold both my TyTN and my Cing 8525 -- the Advantage is my baby now!
I've had no probs at all with any of the apps I used on my Hermes devices. As others have pointed out, nearly all WM5/WM6 software is now updated to handle either QVGA or VGA.... although, to be completely accurate, the Advantage screen is not true VGA but interpolated VGA so the sizes of icons, fonts and some displays tend to be large and need to be adjusted to a size that suits the user. That's why some games probably don't display well with this device, although all the games I use are OK.

I was also thinking of purchasing a 750x hence reading this thread. However, a quick question off-topic (not meant to hijack the thread):
Where did you get the Bubble Shooter V1.19 (I presume it's Bubble Shooter Mobile for PocketPC?). I have a registered copy but it's V1 and the absolutist site only has V1 also as I periodically check (copyright message only goes to 2004 ).
Grateful for a lead on this one - noticed a small performance degrade since my Glofiish X500 and would love to upgrade to the latest version.
Regards,
Gary.

I have my Hermes as a backup (in case I bricked x7500)since I do need a device for e-mail. However, I must say with the amount of software I have on the X7500 and the performance, it is night and day compare to the Hermes. I could not do half of the stuff I am doing now because I was running out of memory and storage on the Hermes. Multitasking is a breeze....

Don't know why they don't put these things on their own site though....
Still, I'm now updated (and I didn't even need to re-key my registration details,

Moved from Universal to Hermes (Observations)

FYI - Anyone considering upgrading to Hermes
I have been using a universal for the last 18months and have now sold it and upgraded to the HTC Hermes.
The universal served me very well and the only thing I miss is the larger screen and VGA resolution and standard 3.5mm jack - however - I don't miss the bulk.
The hermes is everything the universal is minus the VGA.
My default Rom on the universal was Helmi's v1.3 which was AKU 3.5 and was a very very stable/solid rom.
I later installed PDAVIET 2.04 pro (Crossbow/WM6) which was a little temperamental but solid never the less.
I have installed XDA Live 0.20 which is a Crossbow rom on the hermes and it is very fast, I mean very very fast in comparison to the the universal.
In actual fact the hermes feels like an overclocked blue angel. (Normal operation, responsiveness, games etc)
Before I had the universal I had a blue angel that I used to regularly overclock to 530mhz (XCPUSCHALAR) and I can tell you that the herms feels very close to this.
I actually wonder what the hermes is capable of if overclocked slightly - As I don't have any figures (Pocket Hackmaster performance Index, SPB benchmark, etc) I can only speculate - but I'm looking forward to investigating this further.
Incidently the hermes has the Imageon gpu that was present in the blue angel so it runs films in TCPMP with hardware acceleration something the universal lacks.
Now I'm not sure whether the Universal had slow ram, or it being a VGA device slowed it down or what but I do know that the hermes is orders of magnitude more responsive in every day operation than the universal was...
Wireless connects at 54mbs on the hermes instead of the 11mbs maximum thoroughput the universal supports even with the 802.11g hack.
And the Hermes also supports HSDPA (1.8mbs theoretical - if your network provider supports it). Admittedly this was a deal breaker for me as umts is cool but connecting at 1.8mbs to the internet whilst on the road is edging very close to nirvana LOL!
Now while I will miss browsing servers at 640x480 using ts client in WM6 (WM5 tsc was atrocious BTW - LOL!) I feel the hermes features and performance more than make up for it. Plus I recently purchased a Sony u50 (1st generation umpc circa 2004) which has a 800x600 5 inch screen and the u50 allows me to TS into server using the hermes as a modem (Bluetooth or serial comms)
Last but not least I need to mention the hermes 2MP camera - OMDs - LOL.
It is head and shoulders above any HTC Camera I've ever experienced and I have seen them all...
SPV to wallaby to alpine to blueangel to universal I've had them all and this camera is the 1st USEABLE camera in terms of how responsive the camera app is, the picture quality and the overall experience!
Granted it's no replacement for my Canon SLR BUT (BIG BUT) it's definitely useable and supports typical camera functions such as self timer, darkness controls etc.
All other HTC devices had a fairly decent camera app but a piss poor camera sensor that only operated remotely correctly with good light. The pics I get with the hermes are of comparable quality to recent nokia and sony phones.
Hope this information is of use to anyone considering moving from the Universal to a hermes.
haha funny enough I was looking at the hermes last night.
My contract has run out, im in the UK and o2 are no longer doing free gprs so I need to jump ship as its damn expensive! Three are offering unlimited (1gig) a month for £5 so that's my main option plus they have a HSDPA network. But the downside is they don't offer the hermes so i'd have to get it seperatly I want a hermes
Thanks for the review, I want a hermes more now
Thanks
Stu
actually, just a thought... with WM6 PIE has the option to view in VGA mode, this makes website VERY easy to view as if they were on a desktop pretty much which makes browsing actually possible on these devices. Is that function still available on the hermes ?
thanks
Stu
IE VGA
Hi Stu,
No that feature is not available in WM6 IE for the hermes as it is a qvga device (320x240)
Just checked the menu options in IE and noticed that option was missing whereas it was there in WM6 IE on the universal.
Cheers

O2 are just about to bring out a new XDA which is similar looking to the Hermes but appears to have a faster processor. It is apparently out on 26 March.
ooo in that case I may hang around to see what it's like.
But saying that the data is a huge issue data costs on o2 are huge plus i'm a student so we can whine more lol

Or you might like to hold out for the I-mate Ultimate 7150 - more ROM, more RAM, faster processor, VGA .....
not made my mind up about the design of the new ultimate series, dont know what it is, they look at a little funny :? will have to see it in flesh.
This is what I hate about these things, its always add a little bit of extra time on and wait for the next device
The very mention of microSD in these devices is enough for me to overlook them and appreciate my Universal even more - despite the superior performance of the new devices over the Universal. Since the Universal is VGA, has a stable performance, and uses SD Cards - I am pleased with it.
Only when SDHC readers start becoming more mainstream in PDA Phones will I start considering a successor to the Universal.

Hi guys,
After owning the device for 5 months I finally realized that this masterpiece is just too big to be used as a phone. it's an awesome device though.
ps. i am interested in the tytn II, maybe we can trade?
Anyone interested private message me for more details.

haztoma,
Do you have any requirements for a large VGA screen? Every tried realVGA yet? If you have not tried it, you should, and you may look at Athena differently.
However, if you have no requirements that you can think of for a large VGA screen, then a smaller QVGA screen phone would be more appropriate.
Just thought that I share my 2cents worth to help you decide if your decision is the best one. In any case, goog luck and all the best.
I think also that your price expectation is not realistic. A brand new one could be had in the low 600 now.

Eaglesteve is right: your price expectations are too high. There's a brand new Advantage (x7500) on Ebay here now for 340gbp (66o-something dollars) and Advantage's are quite rare here, owing to the market being swampedwith Ameos - the silver and white Advantages. These are available for as little as 240gbp (469usd) here despite having identical hardware to its black cousin.
I would consider sticking it out a bit unless you can find someone to swap with you. If you want the high res screen but aren't bothered about gps there are a few phones on the market that are cheaper than the TyTn 2 with similar functionlity (other than GPS) I believe Glofish make some, or the Toshiba G900 has a very nice screen and is on a par with the TyTn 2 in terms of power.
Hi guys,
thank you for your replies. I would hate to give up the htc, but I find the htc too slow for what i need it for. I am a physician and i was hoping to pull radiograms right to my HTC (that's why i got something with a VGA screen). the process is too slow. Also, I can't make use of the the occasional 5-10 minutes break i get to check my emails and surf the web because it's not fast enough. as for using it for watching youtube videos, FORGET IT the flash version available (i think version 7) either makes the htc freeze or give yous audio without video.
incidently, is there a hack that can make the thing run faster in exchange for battery life. I've installed everything on the microdrive to have as much memory read for running programs.
the camera is not very useful as the shutter speed is not very fast (image capture take about 5 seconds), it's embarrassing to ask people to stay REALLY still for 5 seconds to take an image! slowly moving objects looks out of focus (on my htc at least). is there away to allocate more memory to capture the image faster?
I've installed the black dual rom on it hoping things improve. some programs are just not ment to run on the x7500. eg the new pix viewer takes FOREVER to load the thumbnails. the origian pix viewer and resco pix view loads much faster.
One should have a lot of expectation out of this device after all it did cost $1200 (that's WAY more than my hp laptop).
I thought about the iphone too (seems to be much faster) but I have a lot of medical programs made for windows mobile. I would hate to carry books around in exchange for the simpler iphone.
When i travel, it's awesome for listening to music, playing movies, gps (a must), emailing, surfing the web, skyping, but all of which can be done with the smaller tytn II.
any other ideas how I can improve the advantage to my advantage?

This radiogram stuff, are they just picture files? Hugh size? I never use the picture viewer of the cooked ROM but my resco picture viewer is quite fast. I've seen my GP using computers at work, but always on laptop computers rather than PDA.
Athena can never be used as a laptop although it can look like one. It's not fast enough for that purpose. You should be able to use email very fast, unless you're dealing work very large attachments and graphic filled mails. Internet browser is still not fast enough especially if you have only 5 to 10 minutes extremely short break. There's not much we can do ATM on that. If mobility is not a real requirement, you might find that a sub notebook could work better for you. Would a sub notebook pull up your radiogram fast enough? Are you sitting in front of a desk with your patient or standing in front of a hospital bed when pulling in the radiogram? How do you get the radiogram into Athena? Special program? Are the radiogram on a server?
However, moving to a sub notebook, software availability could be a challenge, depending on what software you're using. Many medical reference type software are on WM6 platform but not sure if they're on XP platform. Of course they would run on tytn II.
Camera is pretty crapy for indoor use, but try using the action button to take picture as it's faster than pressing the camera button. With natural day light it's quite fast. If not, forget it. I use it quite frequently outdoor without problem. Using it inside my house during day is also acceptable. But I once tried taking my mother in law's birthday party picture at night, and it was a disaster. Yes, a very slight movement produced blurred image. Not only that, the quality of picture was really bad in terms of color and resolution. May be scaling the resolution down could help but haven't tried it.
I'm not sure if we can install wm2003 se on Athena. It will certainly make it fly. Wm5 can changed to the persistent memory mode, with big sacrifice in speed in favour of battery life. I personally also prefer the older approach. Not much we can do on that one. This applies also to tytn II.
So, looks like the expectation for it to work like a notebook could not be met, so a rethink is indeed needed to look for new means to meeting your requirements.

they must be more expensive your end of town then. The most you'll pay here is 450GBP, unless you shop somewhere like Expansys, but they're overpriced and don't dictate the market you're looking to sell to.

Is the Blue Angel worth it?

Hi BA owners,
I have a chance to buy a BA in excellent condition for a rediculous price. I have checked the specs on it and with the large ram and 400mhz processor, it would seem to me to be an upgrade from my Wizard, which only has a 200mhz processor and 64mb of ram. I am counting on some input from you guys in this forum to steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
Do it
I will be honest with you. It has no comparison with the Wizard. My wife has one and it runs out of resources more often than not. Don't get me wrong though, it is a great pda phone. However, the BA packs a lot of power inside, and as you may have seen it is upgradeable .
I have had mine for almost 3 years now and has been through 2 heavy manufacturing plants. Other than the stylus getting lost 57,000 times, I do not have any complains about it.
Besides, with this kind of support (xda-devs), short of you bricking it, there are very few issues that you might encounter and not be able to fix. I hope my 2 cents will help you make the right decision.
All in all... Just Do It!!!!
it's also a generation or 2 older then wizards
I love my BA. My curiosity was perked when I saw an ad for the Touch so I checked it out at the local store. I was considering buying one, then I found this site, and the wonderful WM6 ROMs. By updating from WM2003 to WM6 I have decided that with the speed of the CPU and the amount of RAM on this that I would be happier with this than a new, smaller, slower unit. Sure it has some quirks, but mine has been through hell. It has been dropped from waist high several times and has loads of dents in the metal body (something the newer ones don't even have as plastic is lighter and more importantly cheaper). I have used a screen protector for the entire 3 years I have owned it so there is no damage there. I am even still happily using the original battery with no problems.
The following is absolutely not an all inclusive list.
Pros:
large screen
fast CPU
large RAM
durable
time tested and proven by thousands of owners
Cons:
device was never intended to be used this long (WM5/WM6)
bluetooth sucks hard (no range)
tiny ROM (32 MB)
cannot use "all" SD cards (SDHC)
new phones are smaller and lighter
I hope this helps.
P.S. I have seen a phone I would replace my BA with if it ever makes it to market. The Pi Phone from deeda.com looks so cool.

I agree with all these....
just one opinion with the random power on when BT is active, i dont have a problem with it anymore....
if anyone hasnt found out.... use S2U2 from A_C and from settings:
set this parameter:
LOCK WHEN DEVICE WAKES UP: ON
ON BATTERY POWER: POWER OFF in __ -> 5 S - this is the minimum allowed.
What this does is when BA wakes up randomly, S2U2 will run, and after 5 second it turns OFF - i.e. save your battery power and save the BA from accidental button pressing.
For me this is the greatest work around for BT issue and I have my BT ON 24/7
Hope this helps

But it is only workaround. Error still exists.
Point of interest with the BT power on issue. My experience is that if my BA is sitting on the desk powered off with BT on it stays off, but if I pick it up and walk around the "office" it wakes up. I believe it is waking up upon discovering another device. I have not proven this to my satisfaction as of yet, but so far all of my random tests seem to concur. Not that this provides any useable solution as of yet, it is just my observations being put into print.

Yes dude, thats what I have written up there... a wokaround, nevertheless, the greatest workaround I could come up with...
with this, the battery would last as long as if BT is off since when it turns on, it only last for 5 sec before it turns off again...
For me, this problem becomes non-existent now... thats all i am trying to pass on
Btw, Baniaczek, how come you dont release anymore BA roms? I would definitely give it a try if you ever release one again
OT!!
Hi baniaczek. Great to have you back!
I am now running a Kaiser, before that a Hermes, before that a Wizard. So I've used them all. I currently use my Kaiser for business, but at home I use my BA. The BA screen is bigger and it works very well. I'm running Helmi's WM6 and his using his Broadcom BT Stack. I'm also using Radio ROM 1.15.
The Wizard is a better phone. If I were you I'd buy a Hermes or Wizard. They are better phones.
The BA is great as a secondary or backup device. I keep it to browse the web at home using WiFi. The larger screen is very nice. I just got it set up to watch YouTube videos. It's great using WiFi but it only has GPRS for web browsing using your wireless carrier. The Wizard has Edge which is much better.
If I had limited funds and didn't want a contract, I'd buy a Hermes (TyTN) on ebay new for about $350.00. Even if you're on an Edge network (I.e, no UMTS or HSDPA), the Hermes runs better than the Wizard because of the Hermes 400 Mhz processor. I use Pandora's Naked ROM and added just the apps. I want. It works very fast. My wife is now using it.
Hope this helps.

Yeah... I still remembered ur .NET CF2 in WM5 ROM was great! I used it until the release of WM6.
Any plan to cook a tweaked WM6 ROM?
Anth
Nice to read those words. I'm finishing two large projects (non PDA at all), and probably will be back.
Thanks
Thank you all for your replies. I think after reading these posts, I'll stick with the wizard for awhile longer. I would like the larger storage and faster processor, but from what I've read here and reading through many of the BA threads, I think the wizard, with its obvious limitations, is a more stable device, especially running wm6. Maybe I'm wrong, if so, tell me more.

What was the price you were getting the BA for and can I buy it?
Friend of mine has a wizard that crashes more often then my BA >.> gues its the way you handle the device.. once you tweaked it out the BA solid.
Only thing left on my wishlist currently is new battery(2400mah) and a gps unit.. and both are shipped and should arrive shortly
I have a uni and a ba. The uni has better keyboard, sharper screen and faster processor. But how the gurus were able to pack the wm6 rom into the 32mb rom and still leave me with 50mb of storage and 109mb of program memory is simply wondrous. The result is that I am able to handle a lot more on the ba than the uni and it is really very stable.
Changed my mind
OK, after much apprehension about this, mainly because I thought the phone might be hot, I went ahead and bought the Blue Angel, new, in the box, never been used. I won't tell what I paid for it, because you wouldn't believe it. Apparently this friend of a friend happened onto 3 new phones at an auction somewhere and now has sold all three. Now, since I'll have the phone in a couple of days, I need you guys to point me to the best wm6 rom for this phone, if you wouldn't mind. I'm anxious to see what it's like to have some processing power and enough memory to actually have more than 1 or 2 programs running at the same time, with (hopefully) no hangs. Thanks for your attention guys! BTW the specs on this one says it has 64mb flash rom, but on your posts, I've only seen 32mb. Is this true?
it's 32mb for the flash rom only, hence space for the the OS Rom.
that's what makes our BA lean and mean. the excess are discarded to be jampacked into that 32mb muscle.
it's bigger actually when you have booted it up to install some applications.
try and familiarize yourself to your new pal BA by the wiki
check out xplode's latest rom. there's a sticky thread in this forum. most recommended.
regards

Well i wouldnt be surprised by your friends claim seeing as the unit isnt even in final production. One of my friends has played with a pre-production unit and said the same thing but also said that he is pretty damn sure that when the final retail unit is out...it will be perfectly fine.
many new PDA lack of video and 2d acceleration, if Sony taking seriously they should make open /sdk driver,
Can anybody say Samsung Omnia

I finally just received confirmation that the device he messed around with was the pre-production unit as well. Sorry for posting anything misleading I often jump ahead of myself when I get excited.

X1 Is going to be a Iphone Killer. Period
Omnia will be featured on my site, coming soon
www.gsmelite.com
Its nothing misleading, its a fact, i have 2 of the units and the playback is more than slow, its slower than the the tytn II i can tell..maybe when the rom are out..
kepp you posted
bR
What application and what kind of media files did you use for playback?
If you also own a TyTN II, how is the 3G reception quality in comparison? Is X1 better, equal or worse?
Omnia is nothing special really, just yet another (W)QVGA device which is poor for web browsing and remote desktop use compared to (W)VGA devices. The screen is most important feature of a phone, because that's what you spend all your time looking at, and all your apps run in it!
The X1 is rendering everything very smoothly and fast. I've yet to see any lag on Tom Tom, spb Shell etc. And sl9 is right, it's the screen that counts, it's razor sharp, you wont be disappointed.
what about the extra resolution compared to standard vga on touch pro?
is the top bar bigger or something cause all the apps are a certain resolution its strange to me how they fit on the x1s screen
Most apps I've tried so far has somehow managed to run without any flaws on the WVGA-screen. It isn't stretched or anything.
The only thing I would add is that you can't use QVGA apps/skins very well. And when in Lanscape mode is where you'll notice that it doesn't quite fit right.
Take spb Shell for example, in landscape there is this empty area that appears between the main info and the 4 buttons. It's well done because it's not stretching out, just moved over. It doesn't look bad.

Athena - End of Life?

I just looked at the HTC website, discovered the new widescreen touch phones, and was taken aback, that the Athena is no longer listed with the HTC products.
So is this the end of the Athena?
R, Michael
Links? When I go to htc.com I don't see the Athena under current "Products", but that's been true for a while. I do see it listed under "Support". I also don't see any new widescreen phones anywhere...

I am not a regular with the HTC website, so forgive me, if didn't find out earlier, that HTC dropped the Athena line altogether. And I haven't seen it mentioned on this forum as well.
"New" widescreen phones means (for the same reason) "new to ME", but probably "water under the bridge" for the better informed.
No, you misread, I wasn't jumping on you. I'm curious what widescreen phones you are talking about and wanted a link to see. The thread that appeared here about the Athena getting dropped from HTC's product line didn't get much activity so it dropped off the front page quickly, so you could have easily missed it.
i looked on the htc Europe page and there they still have the athena
The HTC web site (worldwide) lists two widescreen devices:
Touch HD
MAX 4G
but no X7500/X7501/X7510.
European and german web sites list the Touch HD as the only widescreen device, but still list the X7510.
North-american site lists no widescreen device at all and no more Advantages.

The thing that surprises me is that this niche seems to be emptying. There are the smaller devices with touch interface (iPhone and knock-offs) that are booming, and then the netbooks are booming. But nothing in between. I'm not sure what my next move will be. I've had my x7500 for over 18 months, which is an eternity. But I can't convince myself that there is anything new that I would be happier with. What I really want is a faster, sleeker, lighter x7500 with a 60GB solid state drive. Wouldn't other people want that??
I've had mine 15 months and plan on using it for several more years. Definitely nothing on the market right now that is an obvious replacement for the Athena and I don't think there will be for a while.
I'd love an Athena with a SSD, and a 16:9 aspect ratio screen instead of the 4:3 we have now. It would make it a bit longer but a bit narrower (top to bottom), more like a traditional "candybar" phone. Would give more total screen space but would make it easier to hold like a phone. Obviously that would also require adding a private earpiece. Throw in a vibrate ringer and I'd be there.

Dude you hit it right on the nail. Or atleast something with an upgradeable memory along with Micro SDHC slot built in, and onboard USB host (no attachments).
hmm
the athena is dieing no one cooks roms for it last was ap5 i think , i love my x7501 ,but the kaiser has more cooks i havent flashed sence ap4 release and i know some one could cook up something better, can a kaiser rom run on a x7501?
Dude where u been?
hey flexedrubi
Mitchy Prima has released many ROMS far above the calibre of the AP ROMS.
I am sure the last one was less than a month ago....
I dont know how u missed it....It is WIZ BANG PA_TANG! (very good)
So go flash it.......
We are indeed a small crowd with our devices and I dont know if anything will come along, I think we are a single generation which were before our time.
In the future we will have XP....sorry VISTA (hssss) or even windows 7 machines - (which are pushing touch screen tech further than Win mobile) the same size and with the same capacity/functionality as our Advantages.
Asus EE pc's come with Sim Card slots now and all you need to use them as phones.
The HTC advantage with the stock Mobile 5 ROM was a pretty awfull device to use as a primary phone we were pioneers with patience lol
Mitchys ROMS have elevated it to heights but its still not really ready to compete with other OS's in terms of simple phone, music, and camera usage
I have been using a combo of N95 8GB (for music, camera and calls) and an x7500 for data for a while now. There is nothing I can see that can beat this combo....
The X7500 is the ONLY PPC in my opinion that I can use for work
Wifi to connect to office (or VPN)
USB host for keyboard and mouse
VGA out for monitor
RDP for TS to access everything I need
I have never used or seen another PPC that could take its place!
I just bought a Sumsung Omnia, I flashed up to newest decent custom firmware (far better than Tmobile stock ROM which was quite bad!) and I loaded up loads of tunes and movies etc, put all my usefull apps on it and expected it to take over from my old combo...
Impossible!
It just cant do it!
I think that Windows 7 (not mobile) or what ever its being called is being designed to plug in to all hardware....
yarod - so what about the Omnia didn't make it good enough to take over from your current combo?
Athena lives?
Just got this from an rss. Looks like Athena lives! Look at this article http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=2357 and you'll see the "Athena 2" apparently code named "Thoth."
Woo hoo!
Wow!
This is indeed good news!

I hope they come out with a T mobile USA 3G version. If not i'm running to AT&T end of my contract before I purchase this handy looking Thoth.
Very good to see that they are continuing development with the Athena line, but it doesn't look much different than the 7510. Still lacks the buttons they took away with the 7510, so right there its a no-go for me.
This is good news

Hi Techntrek
- The omnia was great......BUT comparing to my N95 8GB.........and the Ameo as combo.....
Main things that annoyed me........
unable to use headphones and charge at same time with out of box solution
Also no 3.5 jack without the adapter
FM radio didnt list radio station name ....RDS or something?
Battery (even with newest ROM) doesnt last as long as Nokia (screen is much bigger so maybe that is whats causing it....)
GPS doesnt work as well I only got a FIX Once with my Omnia.......Ameo seems to fix much more reliably as does N95.
Screen is too small to use Remote desktop properly after using ameo - interestingly in this case the only remote app I have for Nokia is logmein which is rubbish
No USB host and I dont want to waste money on Bluetooth combo (top dollar) as I just got a MX3200 set.
The phone application is not as reliable at all.....same with all windows mobile devices, the dialler and phone app on the N95 is integrated into the OS in a much more pleasent fashion - no hangs no issues even if I am running Multiple Applications (web, MMS, video, FM radio etc) the phone app kicks in and out faster and more efficiently with never a crash....
There was no in line remote solution (next/last track, volume, change radio station....
But the omnia could record FM radio!! That was kick ass!
Interesting. Well, here's to many more useful years with our Athenas!

I don't think they are going to bring back the buttons anymore because they are pushing for the touch capacitive screens with integrated touch 3d. We might even loose whatever button is present on the X7510 as it is.
